I don't know how it took me so long to realize that Julia has the same role in the story as Maria does in SoTN: the woman reluctantly helping the protagonist taking down the manipulated antagonist that they care about, offering the right means to succeed and they're heavily implied to become love interests in the future as they refuse to leave the protagonist alone in their brooding.

There are some differences, though:

Maria didn't know Richter's situation: Alucard had to tell her that he had become Lord of the castle, shocking her (one has to wonder how their off-screen encounter has gone...); if Alucard kills Richter even after receiving the Holy Glasses, Maria sets herself to understand what drove him mad. Julia was instead the one explaining Hector that Isaac had been overtaken by the Curse.

Maria urges Alucard to not kill Richter, and if the player does so they receive one of the bad endings, where Maria is clearly disappointed by the outcome; Julia accepts the possibility that Isaac might only find peace in death, and Hector doesn't even entertain other options.

Maria fights Alucard to test his strength before facing Richter, while Julia is the only ally of Hector that doesn't challenge him at some point lol.

Maria offers Alucard a concrete item to help him see through Shaft's illusion; Julia can only give words of advice.

Alucard can save Richter: he may end the game in disgrace, but still alive and himself. Nothing can save Isaac, leaving Julia in mourning and hiding it :)

In a meta sense, the player has to earn Maria's attraction by getting the best ending where she chases after Alucard, otherwise she lets him go, while no such thing exists in CoD, where the only ending is Julia taking Hector to her home - considering she's the reason he didn't kill himself, it seems like the only logical outcome.

The putty patrollers disappeared. It was quiet for a few seconds before Katherine leaned against the wall she stood by to try and calm down and catch her breath.

She watched the boy in green lowered his guard and turned to where she was behind him. He walked over, worry etched into his expression.

"Are you alright?"

"Yes, I'm fine... what were those things?" she asked.

She'd never seen them before, and from the look on the boy's face he was just as lost as she was.
