currently unwell because I'm about to look 2000% too deeply into this stupid ass Ouran episode. I'm reaching Kaorus pumpkin levels of delusion here because I really be overreacting to this simple part but like

this. this is so simple. such a thing that shouldn't stand out but it DOES to me because every single time that the difference between them is brought up its some spectacle. it's them playing their silly little which one of us is which game or somebody telling them straight up they don't know who's who and they have a depressive episode over it but just right here. the question of questions is asked and Kaoru doesn't even hesitate he's just like I'm Kaoru :] and then talks about pumpkins for 10 minutes.

but I keep looking into it!!! and I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing

my first impression was that omg... this is Epic... they've grown so much since knowing Tamaki. he doesn't make a big deal out of it because how could this person know when they make little to no effort to discern themselves from each other. instead of shoving this person away for not knowing he just answers the question and talks to him like they're best buddies (<- they are not, mr class president has clearly never seen Cinderella)

but on the flip side. is that quick no thought response just exhaustion??? he answers because it's just faster to get that over with and out of the way after years and years of people not really giving a damn about the difference between them at all???

perhaps it's a mix of both. Kaoru himself says they're contradictory and they want to be told apart but also don't. so what's it. what's ithuh

(the real canon answer is that Kaoru did not register it and just wanted to infodump about cinderella)

but then I started thinking. is it primarily Hikaru who gets defensive about not being able to be told apart from his brother. obviously Kaoru feels similar but given that he seems to be so self aware about his and Hika's contradictory ideology then maybe he's grown from being so defensive about it but how long has that been the case. does Hikaru ignite feelings like that in him because of the fact that Kaoru hates when Hikaru feels so down. how many questions does this spark? too many

EVIDENCE: anytime we see the twins near video games it is HIKARU playing them (both a present and flashback shot in ep 9, and in ep 20 it is hikaru who suggests they play video games and he COMPLAINS THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS TOO EASY TO BEAT!!! CAN YOU SAY PRO GAMER !??!) now while we don't see the opposite i doubt kaoru is bad or anything. im sure he can hold his own against his brother. but i feel hikaru always manages to outclass him just a little in every game. i think because hikaru has that gamer rage flowing thru his veins he is more competitive and DEDICATED to his craft. kaoru doesnt care all that much.....he just plays cuz its whats hikaru is doing......if kaoru chose his own game to play it would probably be animal crossing. and no i am not "" female - brain """ coding kaoru ...i just think he Tires of fast-paced games. hikaru loooves those damn beat 'em ups and FPS but kaoru wants to create a dystopian hell society and trap all his villagers in holes. he also loved mystery games. ace attorney and danganronpa. the joke here is greg ayres voices monokuma.

the start of this episode. oh my god. THE START OF THIS EPISODE. sleepy kaoru in bed with hikaru trying to wake him up. both of them in bed shirtless. kaoru DRAPING HIMSELF OVER HIKARU AS HIKARU ANSWERS THE PHONE. i- dear lord they starved us hitachiincest shippers for a bit but by GOD did they make up for it

i love this episode if only bc we get twin lore. like. i love their lore sm. ALSO. the usage of the word "twisted" in regards to them meaning both "wrapped together/entwined" AND "abnormal"? like YES. they ARE twisted and i'm obsessed with it!!

when hikaru and haruhi get trapped together and hikaru's first thought after complaining about them being trapped was "where's kaoru, i *have* to find him", freaking out enough about where he was to literally immediately start trying to escape the net so he could go find him!!! like!! we're in the middle of the codependency arc and this man STILL cannot stop. (and i love him for it)

them reuniting!! kaoru blushing the second he sees hikaru!! the hug!! the fact that hikaru was so worried abt finding kaoru he LOST HARUHI?? like!! no one will ever be as important as kaoru to him and that 👏 is 👏 a 👏 fact 👏

KAORU'S FACE WHEN HE REALIZES THAT HIKARU SPED OFF TO FIND HIM. LIKE. THAT MAN IS *THINKING*. HE HAS SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS.

KAORU'S LINE ABOUT HOW "EVERYTHING'S FINE" BECAUSE HIKARU RAN TO HIM. HE'S STARTING TO REALIZE HE DOESN'T WANT TO LOSE HIKARU TO HARUHI. THAT HE STILL CARES ABOUT HIM IN THE SAME WAY AS ALWAYS AND CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE HIM.

kaoru's face when he sees hikaru walk off with haruhi. that is not the face of someone who is happy or likes what's happening!! he's upset!! he doesn't want to do this!! but he's sacrificing himself and his feelings so that maybe, just maybe, hikaru can be happy without him one day!

how kaoru says himself he's not sure what he'll do once hikaru realizes he wants to do things alone!! he doesn't know what'll become of him without his brother!! maybe he doesn't *want* to know, because he's scared of losing hikaru! he wants things to stay the same, but he also wants so desperately for hikaru to have someone other than him, and a life outside of their little bubble! he's self-sacrificing for hikaru!!!

i am probably looking too deeply into this but. i believe that comment from kaoru abt how just because he and hikaru are twins doesn't mean they'd both be good drivers is like. the first time in the whole show he acknowledges, AROUND/TO HIKARU, that they're different people. like. guys. guys CHARACTER GROWTH
