Race and Ethnicity in Islam
Wallahi, the state of our ummah is in disarray. Yet, Alhamdulillah, there are communities where fikrah is upheld and followed correctly. But this alone is not enough. Wallahi, may Allah punish those who harm His creation simply because He created them. May Allah punish those who believe they possess any form of racial superiority.
To those who think their Arab ethnicity grants them status: beware. On this earth, you may be Arab, but on the Day of Judgment, you will stand as nothing more than a servant of Allah. And Allah, the Most High, has declared:
"O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may ˹get to˺ know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Allah is truly All-Knowing, All-Aware." (Quran 49:13)
We must acknowledge the beauty and vastness of the Arabic language, chosen by Allah for a reason, just as the Arabian Peninsula was chosen. But also remember the origin of the chosen people- before the Quran, the Arabs were among the pagans. Their societies today are like any other—some do good, while others indulge in actions detested by Allah. They persist in these wrongs without shame because, as Allah wills, some are guided while others are left in error, unable to perceive it.
It is a great sin—a great sin—to disassociate from your brothers and sisters in Islam because you think your fair skin makes you superior. How deluded must one be to believe that white skin signifies Allah’s noor or that blue or green eyes are signs of His favor? Allah favors the Muslim- the Mumin. Allah favors those who seek to please Him and seek the akhirah.
If this makes no sense to you, it is for one of two reasons:
You have never been inclined to believe you are superior, and you worship Allah as you should.
You do not believe that Allah created us equal.
The only distinctions lie between male and female, believer and disbeliever, and the righteous and the corrupt. Allah told us that we are different- it is by his decree. Never did He say that there is over a race a certain degree in anything. Not iman, not character, nothing.
And Allah says:
"And warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them, and those who did wrong will say, 'Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers.' But it will be said, 'Had you not sworn before that you would not be removed?'" (Quran 14:44)
Allah is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful. Will we not reason? Will we not reflect on how we treat others? We claim to follow the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ, yet fail to uphold justice because of ego and arrogance.
Do we not see the error in how we treat those entrusted to us by Allah—servants, housemaids, those working under us? We yell at them as if they are deaf, overwork them as if they do not tire, and isolate them as if they do not feel. But Allah sees all, hears all and knows all. What do you even understand when you read surah Al-Kahf on Fridays?
Change your ways. Rid yourself of these vile, oppressive habits. Allah is just, and every soul will be recompensed for its deeds. Be a friend of Allah by doing right by His creation. The amanah of this dunya and everything in it is ours to uphold. Treat all of Allah’s creation with dignity, attributing all goodness to Him and recognizing evil as stemming from the nafs and Shaytan.
Allah will question us on the Day of Judgment for what we used to do. That Day is near, though we take it for granted. We live uncaring of how we make life difficult for others, concerned only with easing our own. Fix your ways. Turn back to Allah.
Have adab, akhlaq, and haya—not just toward your boss, king, or president, but toward your gatekeeper, children, spouse, parents, and brother/sisters in Islam. Do not be a hypocrite, selectively treating people well based on their ethnicity. The Arab society has its flaws, as do African, European, and Asian societies. Yet, how beautifully do mixed societies flourish when rooted in justice and equality. When rooted in haqq- when rooted in Ilam.
La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Surah Al-Kahf Ayah 1-5
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
18:1 All praise is due to Allah, Who has sent down to His servant the Book, and has not placed therein any crookedness.
18:2 (He has made it) straight to give warning of a severe punishment from Him, and to give good news to the believers, who do righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward.
18:3 They shall abide therein forever.
18:4 And to warn those who say, "Allah has begotten a child.''
18:5 No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths. They utter nothing but a lie.
The Revelation of the Qur'an brings both Good News and a Warning
Allah praises His Holy Self;
All praise is due to Allah, Who has sent down to His servant the Book, and has not placed therein any crookedness.
In the beginning of this Tafsir, we mentioned that Allah, praises His Holy Self at the beginning and end of matters, for He is the One to be praised in all circumstances, all praise and thanks be to Him, in the beginning and in the end. He praises Himself for revealing His Mighty Book to His Noble Messenger Muhammad, which is the greatest blessing that Allah has granted the people of this earth. Through the Qur'an, He brings them out of the darkness into light. He has made it a Book that is straight, neither distorted nor confusion therein. It clearly guides to a straight path, plain and manifest, giving a warning to the disbelievers and good news to the believers. This is why Allah says:
and has not placed therein any crookedness.
meaning, there is nothing twisted or confusing about it. But He has made it balanced and straightforward as He said;
(He has made it) straight, meaning straightforward,
to give warning of a severe punishment from Him,
meaning, to those who oppose His Prophet and disbelieve in His Book, He issues a warning of severe punishment hastened in this world and postponed to the world Hereafter.
(fromHim).
means, from Allah. For none can punish as He punishes and none is stronger or more reliable than Him.
and to give good news to the believers,
means, those who believe in this Qur'an and confirm their faith by righteous actions.
who do righteous deeds,
that they shall have a fair reward. means, a beautiful reward from Allah.
They shall abide therein,
means, in what Allah rewards them with, and that is Paradise, where they will live forever.
forever.
means, for always, never ending or ceasing to be.
And to warn those who say, "Allah has begotten a child.''
Ibn Ishaq said:
"These are the pagan Arabs, who said, `We worship the angels who are the daughters of Allah.'''
meaning, this thing that they have fabricated and made up.
No knowledge have they of such a thing,
nor had their fathers.
meaning, their predecessors.
Mighty is the word,
This highlights the seriousness and enormity of the lie they have made up.
Allah says:
Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths.
meaning, it has no basis apart from what they say, and they have no evidence for it apart from their own lies and fabrications.
Hence Allah says:
They utter nothing but a lie.
Reason why this Surah was revealed
Muhammad bin Ishaq mentioned the reason why this Surah was revealed. He said that an old man from among the people of Egypt who came to them some forty-odd years ago told him, from Ikrimah that Ibn Abbas said:
"The Quraysh sent An-Nadr bin Al-Harith and Uqbah bin Abi Mu`it to the Jewish rabbis in Al-Madinah, and told them: `Ask them (the rabbis) about Muhammad, and describe him to them, and tell them what he is saying. They are the people of the first Book, and they have more knowledge of the Prophets than we do.'
So they set out and when they reached Al-Madinah, they asked the Jewish rabbis about the Messenger of Allah.
They described him to them and told them some of what he had said.
They said, `You are the people of the Tawrah and we have come to you so that you can tell us about this companion of ours.'
They (the rabbis) said, `Ask him about three things which we will tell you to ask, and if he answers them then he is a Prophet who has been sent (by Allah); if he does not, then he is saying things that are not true, in which case how you will deal with him will be up to you.
- Ask him about some young men in ancient times, what was their story For theirs is a strange and wondrous tale.
- Ask him about a man who traveled a great deal and reached the east and the west of the earth. What was his story?
- And ask him about the Ruh (soul or spirit) -- what is it?
If he tells you about these things, then he is a Prophet, so follow him, but if he does not tell you, then he is a man who is making things up, so deal with him as you see fit.'
So An-Nadr and Uqbah left and came back to the Quraysh, and said: `O people of Quraysh, we have come to you with a decisive solution which will put an end to the problem between you and Muhammad. The Jewish rabbis told us to ask him about some matters,' and they told the Quraysh what they were. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah and said, `O Muhammad, tell us,' and they asked him about the things they had been told to ask.
The Messenger of Allah said, (I will tell you tomorrow about what you have asked me), but he did not say `If Allah wills.' So they went away, and the Messenger of Allah stayed for fifteen days without any revelation from Allah concerning that, and Jibril, peace be upon him, did not come to him either.
The people of Makkah started to doubt him, and said, `Muhammad promised to tell us the next day, and now fifteen days have gone by and he has not told us anything in response to the questions we asked.'
The Messenger of Allah felt sad because of the delay in revelation, and was grieved by what the people of Makkah were saying about him.
Then Jibril came to him from Allah with the Surah about the companions of Al-Kahf, which also contained a rebuke for feeling sad about the idolators. The Surah also told him about the things they had asked him about, the young men and the traveler.
The question about the Ruh was answered in the Ayah; (And they ask you concerning
the Ruh (the spirit); say: "The Ruh...''). (17:85)

Day 11: How was Ramadan during the covid era? Has everything gone back to normal where you are? Anything you miss from back then?
The Ramadan during the pandemic was the best Ramadan of my life. I just miss everything from that time. The way we used to pray all together with jama‘ah, specially arranged 2 rooms for it, after praying sunnah how the kids would sit and read Qur'an (get a little competitive regarding their progress) after taraweeh how we all used to just sit and talk about deen and stuff. Ahh I miss it all ❤️‍🩹
Day 12: Most challenging thing about Ramadan and how do you try to overcome it?
Definitely, balancing my studies and my Ramadan activities. I get so enthusiastic for Ramadan that I lose all my desire and focus to study lol. I need to balance that *sigh*
Day 13: Have you ever completed the qur'an? Ever? What abt during Ramadan?
Yes, both in Ramadan and in normal days. Alhamdulillah. I remember completing it first time in 2nd grade in my Arabic School. We used to have this tradition that whoever would complete the Qur'an will distribute cookies to all students and a big box to the Imams (teachers)
Day 14: Which story from surah kahf hits you hardest?
I think for me it's, the story of Musa عليه السلام and Khidr I love that message- well... In simpler ways how we can never be a know-it-all. That no matter how much we try we can't just know everything there will always be something that we'll miss. And it's okay Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala didn't created us that way. To always ask Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for beneficial knowledge. And also having sabr in times when we don't know what's going on in our lives. To not get frustrated about the fact that Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala isn't answering our questions regarding our life. To learn to be patient, also to not judge things right away. The things we think are good for us might not be that way. Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala knows best and He Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will sort all our matters with khair ✨

"Gog and Magog" refer to figures associated with apocalyptic prophecies in several religious traditions, most notably in the Bible and the Quran. They are often interpreted as symbols of chaos, opposition, or forces that will challenge divine order in an end-times scenario.
Biblical References
In the Old Testament, specifically in the Book of Ezekiel (chapters 38-39), Gog is a leader from the land of Magog who will invade Israel in the latter days. Here, Gog and Magog represent a powerful enemy that rises against God’s people. However, this invasion is ultimately thwarted by divine intervention, and Gog and Magog are defeated. This story symbolizes the triumph of God's justice over the forces of evil.
In the New Testament's Book of Revelation (20:7-8), Gog and Magog reappear as symbolic nations. After a period of peace, they rally the forces of the world to rebel against God, leading to a final confrontation. However, they are quickly defeated, and their downfall heralds the arrival of a new, divine kingdom. This passage often represents the ultimate end of evil before the establishment of God's eternal kingdom.
In Islamic Tradition
The Quran also mentions Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj in Arabic) in Surah Al-Kahf (18:94) and Surah Al-Anbiya (21:96). They are portrayed as destructive forces that will appear before the Day of Judgment, causing widespread chaos. In the story of Dhul-Qarnayn, he builds a barrier to contain them, delaying their release until an appointed time. Their emergence from behind this barrier is viewed as one of the signs of the Last Day.
Interpretations and Symbolism
Throughout history, interpretations of Gog and Magog have varied, sometimes seeing them as specific nations or empires, other times as symbols of chaotic, rebellious forces opposed to divine order. They often represent the final struggle between good and evil, the ultimate test of faith, and the establishment of God's kingdom.

"The Remote Place." Surah 22, "Al Hajj", "the Solemnity."
Tumblr media
I have been using the Quran as the theoretical basis for a new strand of DNA in the field of theology. As we know, Allah called Muhammad to the Kahf in order to communicate the screw shaped path man has taken of the ages and make the way straighter, to restate its stretch goal of a universal brand of goodness from which all mankind could benefit.
The document was written and has been maintained in Arabic but was not intended to be exclusive nor intrusive. Allah is forthright about this to His Messenger. The Glorious Quran is the only document in religious history that proclaims God is Unseen but present wherever life can be found and is the Agent in every religion mankind has ever practiced:
"The Qur'an is a sacred book sent by the Lord of all creation. It is a book for all human beings. It was in the seventh century AD that Islam came to the world. According the Islamic belief, God sent the same religion to every nation that is, Islam.
The only distinctive quality of Islam, as regards to Prophet Muhammad is that while the messages sent to previous prophets got distorted, the original text of the message sent to Prophet Muhammad has been fully preserved due to the availability of paper (papyrus) in its crude form at the time and with the invention of the printing press in times to come.
That is why, now, for later generations (after the emergence of Islam) the greatest and the only source of knowledge of the right concept of God, in its pristine form, is Islam. Anyone who wants to grasp the true concept of God has no choice but to turn to the Quran."
We must study the Quran if we are to know how to cross religious differences, a sacrament known as Hajj. All mankind must perform the Hajj. About this the Surah has a message:
22-27-32:
Call ˹all˺ people to the pilgrimage.1 They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel from every distant path,
so they may obtain the benefits ˹in store˺ for them,1 and pronounce the Name of Allah on appointed days over the sacrificial animals He has provided for them. So eat from their meat and feed the desperately poor.
Then let them groom themselves,1 fulfil their vows, and circle the Ancient House.”
That is so. And whoever honours the rituals of Allah, it is best for them in the sight of their Lord. The ˹meat of˺ cattle has been made lawful for you, except what has ˹already˺ been recited to you.1 So shun the impurity of idolatry, and shun words of falsehood.
Be upright ˹in devotion˺ to Allah, associating none with Him ˹in worship˺. For whoever associates ˹others˺ with Allah is like someone who has fallen from the sky and is either snatched away by birds or swept by the wind to a remote place.
That is so. And whoever honours the symbols of Allah, it is certainly out of the piety of the heart."
Commentary:
Muhammad was told by God and the Angel to teach mankind how to graduate from piety, ritual, and prayer to understanding. Specifically, he told the Founders of Islam to end war, conflict, corruption, class warfare, hoarding, and poverty and deal with mankind's troubles according to rules that visibly changed the lots of the suffering.
Hajj is the "distant path" man must travel apparently in order to grasp what this means and actually do it. Rituals are all right, they help cement the mind and illustrate the text, but they are severely limited in the craft of the relief of dismay and poverty, and he adds do not submit to interfaith prejudices and waylay assistance to those who really need it:
22: 33-35:
"You may benefit from sacrificial animals for an appointed term,1 then their place of sacrifice is at the Ancient House.
You may benefit from sacrificial animals for an appointed term,1 then their place of sacrifice is at the Ancient House.
For every community We appointed a rite of sacrifice so that they may pronounce the Name of Allah over the sacrificial animals He has provided for them. For your God is only One God, so submit yourselves to Him ˹alone˺. And give good news ˹O Prophet˺ to the humble: those whose hearts tremble at the remembrance of Allah, who patiently endure whatever may befall them, and who establish prayer and donate from what We have provided for them."
We cannot ask the poor and disabled to pray and be patient. Something must be done. The Quran specifically says the conditions in the mind, heart and on the surface of the world must simultaneously evolve so the bureaucracy of cruelty comes to an end immediately, at once, instantly, right now.
We know this thing called God is there, we now for sure sages can speak to Him and comprehend His Sooth, we should at least try to abide by its wisdom and clean up this wreck.
Next we discuss the fastest way to make this great and magnificent change via everyone's favorite Middle Eastern Arabic topic, the camels.

Read Surah Al-Kahf On Day of Jumah Prepare Yourself For Gaining Paradise (Jannah)
Surah Kahf Teachings
The surah summarizes for us the gist of Islam; its main theme is that Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) will protect us from all trials. Told through a series of stories that illustrate specific trials, it teaches that Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) will protect the believer at times of severity.
The four stories of Surat Al-Kahf
Trial of Faith – People of the Cave/ Ashabu Al-Kahf (Verses 9 – 26) ...
Trial of Wealth – The story of the man who owns two gardens (Verses 32 – 44) ...
Trial of Knowledge – Moses and Al-Khidr (Verses 60–82) ...
Trial of Power – Dhul-Qar-nayn with Yajuj Majuj (Verses 83–98)
Four stories & lessons in Surah Al-Kahf (Protection from Dunya & Dajjal)
Allah has sent the Quran as guidance to all mankind. Each and every verse of the Quran has blessings and lessons for us in our daily lives.
chapter Al-Kahf. The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged us to read the Surah every single Friday. Moreover, he encouraged us to memorize the first ten verses of the Surah because they will safeguard us from the Dajjal (the Antichrist), the worst of afflictions that will hit mankind.
So what lessons can we take from chapter Al-Kahf? There are too many to put in one article. Or dare I say, too many lessons for even one person to extract all of them. Every time we read the chapter, we will find new lessons.
In this article, we will look at the four stories, and extract three daily life lessons for us from each of the stories. There are lots more, but we will keep it to four.
Read Surah Al-Kahf and prepare yourself for Paradise
AlKahaf (Arabic: الكهف, al-kahf; meaning: cave). Surah Al-Kahf explains fitnah in different areas of life. The stories in this surah outline how the believer should approach these trials and tribulations. Surah Al-Kahf teaches us to never rest and to do as many good deeds as possible to be victorious. Through the worship of Allah alone, the believer can attain greater blessings and prepare himself in this world to attain Paradise in the Hereafter. Allah is the only true God. We will surely return to Allah. So worship Allah alone.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Surah Al-Kahf Ayah 97-99
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
18:97 So they could not scale it or dig through it.
18:98 He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes, He shall Dakka' it down to the ground. And the promise of my Lord is ever true.
18:99 And on that Day, We shall leave some of them to surge like waves on one another; and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them (the creatures) all together.
The Barrier restrains Them, but It will be breached when the Hour draws nigh
Allah tells us that Ya'juj and Ma'juj could not climb over the barrier or penetrate its lower portion. Varying forms of the verb are used here in the Arabic text to reflect the difficulty of the action referred to.
So they (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) could not scale it or dig through it.
This indicates that they could not penetrate it or dig through it.
Imam Ahmad recorded that Zaynab bint Jahsh, the wife of the Prophet said,
"The Prophet woke from sleep, and he was red in the face.
He said,
La ilaha illallah! Woe to the Arabs from the evil that has approached (them). Today a hole has been opened in the barrier of Ya'juj and Ma'juj like this.
and he made a circle with his index finger and thumb. I (Zaynab) said, `O Messenger of Allah, will we be destroyed even though there will be righteous people among us?'
He said:
Yes, if evil increases.''
This is a Sahih Hadith, both Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded it.
(Dhul-Qarnayn) said: "This is a mercy from my Lord...'' meaning, after it was built by Dhul-Qarnayn.
He said: This is a mercy from my Lord,
for the people, when he placed a barrier between them and Ya'juj and Ma'juj, to stop them from spreading evil and corruption on earth.
but when the promise of my Lord comes, means, when the true promise comes.
He shall Dakka' it down to the ground.
means, will make it flat.
The Arabs use Dakka' to describe a female camel whose back is flat and has no hump.
And Allah says:
So when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it Dakkan. (7:143)
meaning, level to the ground.
And the promise of my Lord is ever true. means, it will come to pass without a doubt.
We shall leave some of them,
meaning mankind, on that day, the day when the barrier will be breached and these people (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) will come out surging over mankind to destroy their wealth and property.
We shall leave some of them to surge like waves on one another;
As-Suddi said:
"That is when they emerge upon the people.''
All of this will happen before the Day of Resurrection and after the Dajjal, as we will explain when discussing the Ayat:
Until, when Ya'juj and Ma'juj are let loose, and they swoop down from every Hadab. And the true promise shall draw near... (21:96-97)
and As-Sur will be blown.
As-Sur, as explained in the Hadith, is a horn that is blown into. The one who will blow into it is (the angel) Israfil, peace be upon him, as has been explained in the Hadith quoted at length above, and there are many Hadiths on this topic.
According to a Hadith narrated from Atiyah from Ibn Abbas and Abu Sa`id, and attributed to the Prophet,
How can I relax when the one with the Horn has put the Horn in his mouth and has knelt down, listening out for the command to be given to him?
They said, "What should we say?" He said:
Say: "Allah is Sufficient for us and the best Disposer of affairs, in Allah have we put our trust.''
and We shall collect them (the creatures) all together.
means, `We shall bring them all together for Reckoning.'
Hell will be displayed before the Disbelievers on the Day of Resurrection
Allah says:
Say: "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. All will surely be gathered together for appointed meeting of a known Day. (56:49-50)
and we shall gather them all together so as to leave not one of them behind. (18:47)

Best Surah to Read on Arafah: A Spiritual Guide
The Day of Arafah holds immense significance in Islam. It is a day for reflection, prayer, and drawing closer to Allah. On this sacred day, Muslims engage in acts of worship, including reciting the Quran. But which Surah is the best to read on this blessed day?
Recommended Surahs to Read on Arafah
Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112) Surah Al-Ikhlas is often recommended for its concise yet profound emphasis on monotheism. Its recitation on Arafah reminds believers of the oneness of Allah and their submission to Him: “Say, He is Allah, [Who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.”
Surah Al-Kahf (Chapter 18) Reading Surah Al-Kahf on Arafah is encouraged for its themes of patience, faith, and reliance on Allah. The Surah contains inspiring stories, such as the People of the Cave and the lessons of Dhul-Qarnayn, which resonate deeply on this day of worship.
Surah Al-Fatihah (Chapter 1) Known as “The Opening,” Surah Al-Fatihah is a prayer for guidance and mercy. Its recitation aligns with the core purpose of Arafah — seeking Allah’s forgiveness and blessings.
Verses of Supplication Apart from entire Surahs, many Muslims choose to recite verses that contain supplications, such as Ayat-ul-Kursi (Chapter 2:255) or the closing verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286).
