it’s national coming out day!

she/they pronouns.

classic coming out day stuff: i’m nonbinary/trans/agender, a butch lesbian, polyamorous, have a queer platonic partner and a romantic partner. i’ve been on testosterone for several months and plan to continue, and am in the process of figuring out top surgery.

additional coming out day stuff: i’m neurodivergent and disabled (autistic, ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, hypermobility). there’s high comorbidity between autism and ehlers-danlos syndromes, which includes hypermobility. this means i experience chronic pain and fatigue and get injured frequently/easily. there’s also high overlap between being autistic and being trans.

i think the individual diagnoses/labels are less important than recognizing that trauma is complicated and interrelated to various aspects of someone’s holistic health and identity. the reason i’m including this part is because being a qtpoc/ experiencing marginalization is inherently traumatizing and therefore many people within queer communities experience these overlapping levels of marginalization (mental illness/disability.)

i’ve had people tell me i’m a hypochondriac and i often worry that people think i’m making up labels because it seems like too much for one person. but the fact is that they’re all connected and related and these are all part of who i am.

(pls no health advice. also calling someone a hypochondriac will only show that you’re invalidating and unsafe to disclose to. i have and will continue to cut off people who say that.)

point being, queer liberation is inherently tied to anti-racism/anti-colonialism work (which inherently includes Black liberation and Indigenous sovereignty), disability justice and healthcare access.

I know pride month in the US is already half way throufh but pride across the UK still has months left, and it is a huge selling point for brands, This year more than ever. It's been in the news both last year and this year, pride t shirts are being made my garment workers in countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar, where it is illegal to be gay and Turkey, where pride activists were tear gassed, where pride has been banned . Which means LGBT workers being paid a pittance and probably working in terrible conditions got to make pride, proud to be gay and rainbow t shirts all day for you to wear at pride while theyre living in a country where their identity is punished, sometimes even by death. And while I love a good punny pride t shirt as much as the next queer I really just want people to think about where they're buying them from. Especially as pride becomes more and more corporate. Try a queer owned business, shop small and handmade, buy from local pride organisations. Don't buy from businesses who actively support, or are owned anti-lgbt people. Don't shop big fast fashion brands please (especially brands like Primark who are known for manufacturing Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Turkey) Do your research! Queer liberation for all please and thank you!
