Hi. This is going to be a post about the Neil Gaiman allegations. But it's also going to be a post about fandom and how we treat each other on this hellsite (affectionate). So strap in.

Something I really wish folks would keep in mind right now is that we. don't. know.

We don’t know how this situation is impacting fans in their lives offline. For example: I have tangential professional and personal connections to Gaiman that are making this very difficult for me on both practical and emotional levels. I didn’t want to share that on tumblr, but at this point I feel like I have to.

We also don’t know what someone has personally been through or how this might be affecting their mental state. Let me tell you, as a sexual assault survivor, reading anon hate in my inbox that said, “You’re a NG apologist and deserve to be r*ped like his victims” was not a treat. Especially when all I’d done was continue my normal fandom activities. I hadn’t spoken about the allegations AT ALL at that point because, guess what, I was feeling triggered, and seeing constant (often untagged) SA discussion on tumblr had me in a very bad place mentally.

And not all of us know what to do with the love we held/hold for Gaiman's works. You’re not selfish for feeling lost or confused or bereft when an author whose work you admired turns out to be a trash person. And the fact that Gaiman was also outspoken in supporting issues like LGBTQIA+ and refugee rights makes these revelations hurt even more. You’re not naive for believing that a person like that was worthy of admiration. You were operating with the information that was available to you.

You’re also not obligated to separate the art from the artist, nor are you obligated to stop engaging with his works altogether. You're not obligated to decide right now either way. You can take your time. You can change your mind later. Or not.

This is HARD. And it’s okay to acknowledge that. Give yourself some grace. Then do the same for others.

Remember to love each other.

You can't, you can't just dismiss the competition! Youtube and Spotify are not the only places to listen to music are you kidding me!??!?! Both Youtube and Spotify are music platforms that heavily rely on algorithms to deliver music to you. Of course bots and AI slop are going to take advantage of that! This video talks a lot about how Youtube playlists and recommendations are getting ruined by the slop. That's a shame, really, but consider what you're saying here!

There are options!!!!

Bandcamp and Soundcloud are right there!!! They're right there!!!!!

I go to the first page of Bandcamp and what do I get??? Featured Artists being promoted by Bandcamp, a list of current top selling albums on the platform, new and notable albums that were released on the platform recently, and encouragement to explore the tags.

What do I get on Soundcloud??? Music I recently played, Recommendations based on songs I previously liked, Other recommendations based on who I follow and listen to, Soundcloud's featured artists that get promoted.

Both platforms use tags that are set by whatever musician uploaded the music. They both encourage you to curate your music yourself or explore what others have curated. Yes, there's some algorithm stuff on their front pages, but these algorithms are properly built to promote real people and not just bots taking advantage of the system. Soundcloud has a feed just like other social media platforms, and that feed is only for what YOU follow.

Heck, you could even use Audius! I don't personally use the platform myself, but it functions like an alternative to Soundcloud. It has much of the same appeal. Its front page shows what music is currently trending, but guess what, it has a feed and it encourages you to curate it!

I get it, a lot of artists don't use these platforms, but what ties them all together is that they're doing what we want them to do: Actually support musicians. Artists aren't incentivized to use the platforms strictly because they're less popular, but it doesn't mean these platforms are worse than Youtube or Spotify.

Spotify sucks ass! They're literally infamous for being infested with bots, fake genres, and barely paying artists. You can buy an artists album for $5 and you would be paying them more money than they would get if you listened to them on Spotify for 5 months total.

Youtube pays a bit better, but they don't give a flying fuck about music! They're trying to have the whole cake and eat it too with movies, games, and other social media interaction. (text posts, polls, pictures, and the such.) They want people to be using their platforms and ONLY their platforms for everything. Your eyes must be glued to their screens at all times, so what if the algorithm hands you slop? You'll watch it right? It'll promote whatever keeps you there no matter who or what it is! (as long as its legal)

Don't sit around waiting for these platforms to change for the better. LEAVE. If you want to support artists then support them on other platforms if they're available on there!

And I know, I know Soundcloud had a whole exodus some years ago because whoever makes the decisions at Soundcloud is some out of touch buffoon who's getting desperate and doesn't know how to make the platform profitable, but you know what happened with almost every stupid decision Soundcloud made? They rolled it back or it didn't follow through with it. They're at the mercy of the userbase. The platform has issues, but I'd never give it up for the lack of respect and slop Spotify and Youtube have. Soundcloud's my musical hellsite (affectionate)

Bandcamp, as far as I know, has 0 controversy outside of the big companies who bought them and laid off half the Bandcamp staff. That wasn't Bandcamp's fault! They just got fucked over by Epic, otherwise they're still doing great! Bandcamp just needs to modernize their platform a little bit. (HOW IS THERE STILL NO VOLUME SLIDER)

Again, no comment on Audius, but hell maybe I'll start using that too.

And if you're SO INSISTENT on using Youtube for music, don't rely on the algorithm for your content! You can curate what you see on there you know! Subscribe to people, actually look at your subscription feed! If you want to use recommendations, you can adjust that too! Every time you see some AI bullshit click on those 3 little dots and either click "Not Interested" or "Don't recommend channel". I hate Youtube's guts when it comes to music, but they at least gave you options to if you hate what the algorithm is showing you. Use them!

I cannot emphasize enough how much no one wants this feature. Just allow a disable button and you will see just how much no one wants to use Tumblr Live. Snoozing it was annoying as heck and now it doesn’t even snooze properly which is just pissing everyone off. You really are going to drive away everyone if you don’t at least listen to one thing we as a whole have been telling you about for MONTHS. I am literally just asking for you to listen to this ONE thing. If you want to keep doing tumblr live, fine, but at least let people snooze it. This isn’t tik tok. It’s not Instagram. It’s not Facebook. That is why we are here. Become like them and we will leave.

not sure what happened but i have live snoozed and it used to prevent it from showing up in the bottom navigation bar on mobile (ios)

but it has since stopped doing that so now even with live snoozed it’s still there, and i would like it to Not Be

As you might have noticed, there have been some updates to how snoozing Tumblr Live works. Snoozing will continue to hide Live from your dashboard, but the navigation icon will remain in your navigation bar.

This means you’ll be able to watch anyone you follow go Live without having to unsnooze the whole thing! Additionally, we’ve increased the snooze period from 7 to 30 days.

Anniversary Post - A Love Letter to Friends and Fics

As of today, it has officially been a full year since I started this blog. In that time, a lot has happened. A lot of it was kinda shitty, but a lot of it was also incredible. This post is to celebrate one of the most incredible things that has happened to me in recent memory: getting back into writing fanfic as a hobby.

In the past year, I've joined 5 networks, posted dozens of fics, and met countless incredible people that I hope will continue to be a part of my life forever. It would be impossible to tag everyone, but there are a few people that I really want to acknowledge by name.

@melobin - One of my first ficblr friends. Your server was the first writing community that I joined after starting this blog, and the community that I found there is one of the reasons I'm still writing today. Thank you for all of the love you've shown me over the past year.

@leejenowrld - Another one of my first ficblr friends. You've been there for damn near every moment of this incredible journey, and I will never be able to accurately convey with words just how much your friendship means to me.

@heechwe - One of my closest friends, period. You've seen pretty much every side of me there is to see at this point, and you're still here. You deserve a goddamn medal for that, and I can never thank you enough for being there for me through some of the worst times of my life.

@miniseokminnies - Another one of my closest friends, period. I can never even begin to thank you for all of the love and support you've shown me pretty much from the moment we met. I hope that we stay friends forever.

@chugging-antiseptic-dye - My boo bear and crochet buddy. You've shown me so much love in the brief time that we've known each other, and I will forever be grateful for it.

@gyubakeries - My favorite evil genius (affectionate). Your ideas never cease to amaze me when we brainstorm together. Thank you for listening to me yap at odd hours about whatever silly ideas I'm obsessed with and helping me turn the scattered ideas in my head into actual plans for stories.

@hyperbolicheart - My number one hype woman. Whether I'm struggling with difficult emotions or trying to come up with fic ideas, you're always there to listen. I will never be able to thank you enough for all the time we've spent talking about anything and everything.

@joonsytip - My baby. Conversations with you always brighten my day, and I can never thank you enough for putting up with my silly antics. I treasure our friendship and always will.

@jenoslutie - My favorite freak (affectionate). Our conversations never fail to make me laugh, and your server is one of my favorite writing communities that I'm in. Thank you for welcoming me into your community so warmly and listening to my weird fucking ideas.

@xomakara - My favorite mom friend. Your writing advice and hype has helped me bring some of my favorite stories I've ever written to life. Thank you for always listening whenever I have a weird idea or whenever there's a man that I'm going feral over.

@nothoughtsjustfic - My favorite entity of chaos. Your ideas always blow me away, and your works are genuinely amongst some of the most entertaining that I've read on this hellsite. Thank you for all of the love that you've shown me and my crazy ideas in the relatively short time we've been friends.

There are so many more people that I could name, but if I did, this post would take forever. Y'all will know who you are though, and I can never thank any of you enough for all the love you've shown me in the past year.

Happy Pride, everyone! I've been on this hellsite (affectionate) for about 12-13 years now, and for a majority of that time I was a pretransition trans masc in a toxic, abusive household with seemingly no way out or to become myself. But last year, not only did I get out of my parents house, I also met my amazing partner and started testosterone! And in just 15 days, I'm finally going to have the surgery I've wanted since I was 17. So many people have helped me get to this spot, I just need a little bit more help to reach my goal! skybound Thoughts

sooo uh, im thinking about doing a rewrite of ninjago skybound.

im currently rewatching it because of this, and in case i never get around to actually writing anything, im gonna word-vomit onto this hellsite (affectionate) cuz im having Thoughts.

quick tangent though, skybound seems very similar to danny phantom (at least in how the fandom treats it) in the sense that, when you actually watch it, it's pretty tame and honestly kinda shit. but then you dig deeper. and you see the Implications and Possibilities, and suddenly it has you by the throat with all the ways this could have gone if it wasn't a kids show.

like, in skybound you get genuine torture and creepy implications on nadakhan's part (seriously, get away from jay and nya you fucking creep), and while it's never really explored since, y'know, kids show, it makes nadakhan one of the best and most terrifying villains i personally have watched in ninjago.

anyway, here are a couple of things i've been toying with in terms of a possible rewrite:

one thing im thinking about taking from various other fics i've seen (i think its mainly shown in bending but never breaking, which is an absolutely amazing fic and you should go read it but MIND THE TAGS AND TRIGGER WARNINGS PLEASE) is jay learning to use the electricity in his body, though obviously not painlessly

bonus points for his elemental power getting royally fucked up once/if the vengestone is removed, but in the sense of suddenly he is completely overwhelmed and his power is so much stronger and its a danger to both himself and others

queerplatonic jaya: i think in this season especially, nya felt very aroace coded (i might just be projecting as i myself am aroace, but that's the vibe i got) and so for a skybound rewrite nya and jay would have a serious conversation about how nya doesn't feel that way for anyone, even if she *does* really like jay

just general angst and torture

id rewrite jays obsession with nya, specifically his first wish (if i dont just jump right into him being on misfortunes keep)

i think id like to do something more with delara than just her being some dead girlfriend. i.e.: i'd make her fucking unhinged and the kind of person that would fall in love with and support nadakhan.

i really liked @cotidianoseeder's idea for canary!jay, so possibly something in that direction

i also really like it when people keep serpentine aspects in jays character, so some of that as well

fuck it, make him inhuman, y'know?

i'd age everyone up i think (i dunno how old they are in skybound, but a 17 minimum would be in my rewrite)

OH! i'd put bruiseshipping as a romantic relationship cuz i love them

nya would make the final wish, since a big part of her character would be forging her own story and taking control of her own life

zanes falcon would survive cuz i love that fucking bird

echo would be taken off the island post-rewind

what do y'all think??? i keep having more ideas, i might post them

I hope you are doing well! first of all im sorry if you find this intrusive, it's not my intention at all! the thing is -- i'm a long time tumblr user and fan, this place means a lot to me and i've tried to support the site anyway I can every time I can. I fell in love with the "do you love the color of the sky" tumbler when it was available, but at the time wasn't able to buy it (I live in Brazil and the dollar-real conversion is _steep_ lol). now things are looking up a bit and I'd love to have it and show my love for this hellsite (affectionate), but unfortunately its not available anymore! :( Ive tried seraching for it on ebay with no luck. so my last resource would be to reach out directly to someone at tumblr and ask if there's any way I could get my hands on one of those. if you think there's someone better equiped to help or an email I should contact, I'd be so grateful if you could point me in the right direction. but of course if there's no hope I get it :( thank you so much and have a nice day!!!

So! Lunar Inkclipse is having a great time! I've already submitted my ticket to tumblr support to try and get the issue resolved, since it can happen through just glitches. we are on broken hellsite, after all (affectionate). But, it can take a while- Anywhere from a few days to a month or more. Which is why I made this alt. First, what's up with my main?

The biggest tragedy of them all- My comments on any previous post are "unavailable", as if they've been deleted or my account blocked. Also, I cannot make any new ones!! I keep getting error messages- I've also tried to make a side blog and comment with that, but the same issue happens.

My posts and blog do not show up in searches. If you're browsing the murdle tag, it's like I never posted.

My message feature is gone and nonfunctional! Not like I really used them, but it's worth knowing.
