Friendly reminder when we say "stop using ai" that means ALL AI including character ai, ai filters and putting your art in ai to see what it looks like

Welcoming AI-produced creative works is a death knell for any event or gathering space that is community based. Proponents and users of generative AI aren't looking for community - they are looking for customers. There is no inherent value to AI "art" or "stories" outside of monetization potential.

No AI used in my cover arts. Heck off. I get to work a brilliant artist and friend, Felipe de Barros.
Here are just some of the early concept pieces he and I did for The Doors of Midnight before Tor got the manuscript going. I sent these and more to them.

We work hard and before a book's out and even the pubs start thinking on covers. Theme, imagery, symbolism, even color coding and theory *because I'm a fan too* especially due to certain films that have bled that through their storytelling like The Fall, and then Jet Li's, Hero.

Here were original concepts for what became The First Binding.

Just FYI: Al databases have been found to contain illegal images including those of minors. I'd be careful about supporting this AI generated media!

OH MY GODS
WHY DOES EVERYTHING NEED AN AI? WHAT POSSIBLE BENEFITS DOES IT HAVE TO SOCIETY RIGHT NOW????
I'm not using your search engine for your SHITTY AI to tell me to give me a reddit post as a top result.
I fuckin hate it to "We've added an AI assistant for your convenience"
Said convenience is actually ruining the interface and rendering it unusable

How many with a human spirit are going to be sacrificed for the bottom line? Technology isn’t human. It doesn’t have error. It is a database with images and words, based off of which it generates images and words with predictive algorithms. There’s no spirit. I used to never believe in the human spirit. That changed when all this bullshit came along. Can it be a tool for good? Sure. But far, far too many people aren’t going to do that, because the bottom line matters most. I once heard a very apt phrase about these kinds of people.
“They just like pushing buttons”
If they wanted art, they would make it or commission it. Same goes for writing and music. They want the end result, but none of the real human effort put into it because they’re just to impatient and ignorant of the creative effort we as people put in. They’re turning real, creative effort from real people into a soulless, mindless machine, built to give them data that it thinks they’ll like and nothing else. And it’s terrifying, because already are jobs I could’ve gotten if I was a bit older disappearing, slowly but surely. The effort isn’t what matters. It’s the bottom line. But that doesn’t mean we have to give up. Plenty of people and companies will want real human efforts because they’ll have a shred of fucking compassion. Everyone else will fade into the background as their voices barely change, while the hard work we as artists and writers is stolen, used by a hollow shell to replicate what takes us days in seconds. And yet we carry on, Because we are human. Because we care. Because it means something. Because we can’t give up. If we do, that’s just letting the technology win. Don’t let them take this from us. Fuck AI. Support real artists, writers and other creatives.

Piracy and "Ai art" are both forms of theft, but one is cool because stealing from massive corporations is good and stealing from small businesses and individuals is bad.
Stop using "ai art". Stop using your oppressors tools and tactics to push down the people you should stand with. That includes your ai girlfriend.
Steal from corporate, have solidarity with working class artists. Corporations are not people but workers are.

Hey my lovely people on tumblr 🖤 I have to get something off my chest. The whole new AI thing is a problem for me personally. I just realized how much of an competition it is for me and other writers. I'm here to put a smile on your face with my scenarios and I absolutely love reading your requests. And it seems I'm doing something right.I'm literally sitting here in tears because I know I could never compete with an effing robot. Why sending requests when I can let an AI write stories for me? The whole thing scares me and makes me sad. Cause writing on here took me a lot of time and courage to do.And I don't want it to be taken away from me because I fucking love what I do. Myself and other writers are putting time, love and effort in our work, always trying to make it special for you, that's something an AI can't . I felt the need to share my thoughts with you and please remember, this is my opinion. I hope I will read from all of you lovely anons again. Sending much love 🖤

I think my next project to work on is going to feature trad-pub books created by AIs and the resulting dystopia created by it. The rebellion will be indie authors/artists and the lovely creators of fanworks.
"caffy project: ai book dystopia" and it's going on the pile.

Anyone who writes on AO3 needs to know that your hard work may be being used to train AI bots in writing fanfics
Please reblog to help get the word out

The ai shit with nano imo really emphasizes the more toxic part of nano that I was starting to notice overtake the whole month
I've seen people really sacrifice a lot for NaNo--skipping classes, staying up late every single night of the month--and there was an attitude some had that if you missed the first few days, there was no point in doing it all because you wouldn't be able to catch up in time.
The spirit of NaNo should have always been that it was just a fun challenge. The process of writing and the community surrounding it was supposed to be just as fulfilling as hitting the goal--if you could. I remember the first time I attempted it when I was 14, and it was fun even if you got nowhere near 50k! You got to talk about writing, and you got to share your story ideas, and you got to read about other poeple's wips.
But when I was hearing that people were ruining their sleep schedule or sacrificing their education or personal health all for the sake of 50k, it starts to feel like "winning" was more important than anything else. And it started to turn writing into an all-consuming, unhealthy thing for some people.
I was starting to question everything about NaNo a few years ago because it was starting to get elitist how people were talking about their novels. And then how it felt like the people winning were holding that 50k to be more important than anything.
And it's just my experience, I know, but when I tried getting into forums on the site a few years ago--they were dead. When I joined a Discord server, no one wanted to talk to each other but really just wanted to talk at one another. I was seeing a lot of pretentious bragging about hitting word goals and then when people wanted to genuinely connect and talk--silence.
It was like if you couldn't get your ego stroked, there was no point in talking.
And now that the org has said that AI is okay to help hit 50k, I think that that really sums up the shift in attitude I was seeing. It's not about the process anymore. It's not about finding a spot in a community. It's not about having fun. It's about getting a badge on the internet and bragging rights.
I know there's people still out there who genuinely keep up the spirit of NaNo (though those people seem to be moving on lol), and those people are going to be the backbone of whatever comes next. I really hope that this whole thing starts a resurgence in community-lead events that are completed for fun and not clout.

"He knows I'm not the possessive type. I'm totally cool with him having other friends." Girl twenty issues earlier you stole your mom's scrubs to sneak into a hospital and spy on your boyfriend's female friend after he repeatedly told you they were just friends. ARE you cool with it
