Friendly reminder when we say "stop using ai" that means ALL AI including character ai, ai filters and putting your art in ai to see what it looks like

No AI used in my cover arts. Heck off. I get to work a brilliant artist and friend, Felipe de Barros.
Here are just some of the early concept pieces he and I did for The Doors of Midnight before Tor got the manuscript going. I sent these and more to them.

We work hard and before a book's out and even the pubs start thinking on covers. Theme, imagery, symbolism, even color coding and theory *because I'm a fan too* especially due to certain films that have bled that through their storytelling like The Fall, and then Jet Li's, Hero.

Here were original concepts for what became The First Binding.

Just FYI: Al databases have been found to contain illegal images including those of minors. I'd be careful about supporting this AI generated media!

How many with a human spirit are going to be sacrificed for the bottom line? Technology isn’t human. It doesn’t have error. It is a database with images and words, based off of which it generates images and words with predictive algorithms. There’s no spirit. I used to never believe in the human spirit. That changed when all this bullshit came along. Can it be a tool for good? Sure. But far, far too many people aren’t going to do that, because the bottom line matters most. I once heard a very apt phrase about these kinds of people.
“They just like pushing buttons”
If they wanted art, they would make it or commission it. Same goes for writing and music. They want the end result, but none of the real human effort put into it because they’re just to impatient and ignorant of the creative effort we as people put in. They’re turning real, creative effort from real people into a soulless, mindless machine, built to give them data that it thinks they’ll like and nothing else. And it’s terrifying, because already are jobs I could’ve gotten if I was a bit older disappearing, slowly but surely. The effort isn’t what matters. It’s the bottom line. But that doesn’t mean we have to give up. Plenty of people and companies will want real human efforts because they’ll have a shred of fucking compassion. Everyone else will fade into the background as their voices barely change, while the hard work we as artists and writers is stolen, used by a hollow shell to replicate what takes us days in seconds. And yet we carry on, Because we are human. Because we care. Because it means something. Because we can’t give up. If we do, that’s just letting the technology win. Don’t let them take this from us. Fuck AI. Support real artists, writers and other creatives.

OH MY GODS
WHY DOES EVERYTHING NEED AN AI? WHAT POSSIBLE BENEFITS DOES IT HAVE TO SOCIETY RIGHT NOW????
I'm not using your search engine for your SHITTY AI to tell me to give me a reddit post as a top result.
I fuckin hate it to "We've added an AI assistant for your convenience"
Said convenience is actually ruining the interface and rendering it unusable

Trying to have a debate with an AI bro is exhausting. I’m not talking an online debate either, I was going in circles with this guy in my own living room yesterday
Long story short, my aunt made a new friend recently and they were at my house watching my dogs while my friend and I went to the county fair. When we got back we all hung out and I thought “damn, this guy is pretty cool. And he makes music? Hell yeah”
Then he drops that he’s made 3 of his songs with AI. He wrote none of it. Not the music or lyrics or anything.
And we went back and forth and round in circles about the ethics of AI, and he just kept circling back to “well it takes creativity because you have to know how to give it the correct prompts” and “it’s no different than modern art”
The way my friend and I just kept side eyeing each other the whole time

I feel like the biggest insult an author can receive is to be compared to AI
I had a family member look through a few chapters of a novel I'm writing and they said to me "Did you really write this? It looks like AI"
That comment sent me back like 5 years on all the self love and improvement I've been working on... (༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ)

Piracy and "Ai art" are both forms of theft, but one is cool because stealing from massive corporations is good and stealing from small businesses and individuals is bad.
Stop using "ai art". Stop using your oppressors tools and tactics to push down the people you should stand with. That includes your ai girlfriend.
Steal from corporate, have solidarity with working class artists. Corporations are not people but workers are.

Orson Welles...
I've seen people talking about how people not making much money in the arts are more motivated and able to produce more because they need they money.
Uh, no.
A lot of this industry relies on the hidden labor of others - people subsidizing artists.
Tumblr media
Coming from poverty and being in it makes it harder (TRUST ME ON THAT) because you don't always know how things will work out. Where your next meal might come from, what will happen if you don't get the investment from xyz (w.e.). So on.
Now, can you still create with all that? Yeah.
Does it HELP? No. Not at all.
Which sucks, because the creation and consumption (participation of culture) is not/should not be only for those who can afford to participate.

A segue because I believe it needs to be addressed on a slightly related vein:
Tbh it is indeed very frustrating, especially with the rise of “shorts” and quick reels, etc on all the damn socmed platforms which encourage creators to end up becoming mere content mills for ever shortening attention spans. How to make quick content? This is when people start resorting to AI. BAM. You have instant content. All those against AI should also be aware that the less support you give to real human artists and writers, the more they get discouraged and believe that the hard work of human hands and minds are no longer worth the while, so they disappear. Then we will soon be left with just content, stuff devoid of true heart and soul and spirit.
We’ve come to a point where writers and artists have become an “endangered species.” Remember: AI ART IS NOT ART. (Or fic for that matter) It is a theft of art and an insult to the creative human spirit, to put it bluntly.
someone I follow on the bird app just announced they're starting a very exclusive private fic server because they and a bunch of other people want to talk about how much they love the fics they're reading, and as an author can I just say that a really great place to talk about a fic you love is in the comments for that fic
I understand that people are trying to create safe spaces, but as the number of comments that I get on my fics dwindles with each passing year, knowing these spaces exist where my fics are being discussed, places that I am excluded from, makes me want to write fic LESS
I mean I guess who cares, right, because if I stop writing, there's 10,000 other people that will continue...but if you participate in a fic "book club" server and you say nice things there about a fic you loved, maybe copy and paste that into a comment on AO3?
the only thing fanfic writers are asking for in return for hours of hard work is attention. please don't rob us of the one thing that we hope for when we hit "post"
