One of the perks of having older siblings was getting to see stuff your friends couldn’t. One of their friends collected MAD magazines and I got to see the good stuff, in the first few issues!

“Superduperman” was drawn by Wally Wood, one of the great cartoonists. his panels are always filled with great details. I used to spend hours poring over his panels. “Howdy Dooit”, a parody of a kid’s show, was drawn by Billy Elder. The right-hand panel is what stayed with me the rest of my life!

you know, if i had a nickle for every underrated rom-com superhero/antihero movie that features an alien falling in love with a journalist, i’d have three nickels. which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened thrice.

I don’t want to give it the “so bad it’s good” badge of honor but it was so bonkers and batshit (haha) insane i could not believe it was anything but a parody. Like objectively nothing about it was good, made zero sense, no one should read it but my god it was…. an experience
