i think i remember how i became narcissistic and disgustingly deep into something shallow enough,,, when there was nothing to like about humanity except for our innate desire to give love to skin deep features of a human that trigger biological instincts and honestly i watched how beautiful it was— to see humans love so selflessly, naturally, purely. it was like the only time love felt real or warranted . it was the result of my destruction of human made concepts of what makes somebody beautiful or deserving of love. it made me saw any other attempts as human desperation from a craving to be loved, (which i suppose is just horridly inevitable sometimes being emotional creatures) from feeling inherently incomplete and unwhole, undeserving until seen and picked up with shallow adoration, and it was oddly satisfying to know that i only lacked that desperation for superficial validation… to be made complete with love from an external party, i believe could never be capable of real love without personal inadequacy… for whatever reason completely free of that desperation for my soul to be seen and my name sang in conversations, for whatever reason… the only love i knew or had….was in me :)

It's funny that the hubris of characters like Zhao Jing is always pride (he's greedy, too, sure, but that's just to feed his huge, fragile ego), while Jin Guangyao's downfall was actually his mercy.

Also as far as WoH characters go, I think Jiggy has more in common with the little scorpion.

truly it is jin guangyao's compassion and mercy that come back to bite him in the ass. evidence:

everyone who ultimately contributes to killing him are people whose lives he has literally saved in the past, or whose lives he has devoted himself to improving in some way. he saved nie mingjue's life during the confrontation with wen ruohan in the scorching sun palace; he saved AND protected lan xichen and what was left of the gusu lan library after the razing of the cloud recesses; he doted on and cared for and saw nie huaisang as more than simply nie mingjue's disappointing, childish successor, and solved his problems for him for well over a decade after nie mingjue's death.

he could have killed sisi after realizing she was among the sex workers who raped jin guangshan to death, but he didn't, specifically because she was kind to him and meng shi; (nobody @ me about the imprisonment, i'm not saying any of that was good. but he could not harm her more than he already had.)

he has so many opportunities during the guanyin temple sequence to kill every single one of his hostages, which would certainly make recovering meng shi's remains less difficult (before he realizes her remains are missing)--but he doesn't.

i'm sure there are more examples of course, but those are the ones that immediately leap to mind. as for the comparison to xie'er.... hmm. there are definitely some superficial similarities, but i really don't think anyone in word of honour is a suitable comparison to jin guangyao honestly. i'll have to mull it over some more, but as i've said before, jin guangyao is such a unique character in the genre that he is tricky to make these kinds of comparisons about.

I'm stupidly sympathetic towards light novel!Paris despite him being absolutely the most dubious and problematic character in the story and if it were not for the fact Helene STILL usurps him as the better character, he'd probably be my favorite character in the light novel (but there's no way he can beat Helene: not when she is literally the epitome of everything I CRAVE in female characters (and have yet to be disappointed by!!!!!!))

also, unrelated to that is that i really like this shot of Paris holding up the broken dragon stone he's about to give Helene a piece of,,,, this scene is literally so vivid in my memory and i hope so very desperately it gets to happen in the manhwa even if the timing for the scene was missed compared to the OG story

“I just think you do all this as an entertainment, pretty” morgan said looking across the bullpen, more specifically to the 6’1 nerdy man with the prettiest honey-like eyes.

“shut up, morgan, I’m tired of explaining the same thing to all of you” a sigh escaped my lips while I arranged all the paperwork we had left after a horrible case of human trafficking in D.C.

“what thing are we talking about? ‘cause if we are talking about the missing cookies, garcia took them” prentiss said sitting on top of the desk besides mine.

“we are talking about the not so secret crush our best dressed agent here” morgan pointed at me, making my laugh a little, “has on our I dress like a grandpa doctor”

“try not to make it that obvious next time” he pushed me in a playful way, laughing at my, more than spencer’s, red face.
