Hello Mike. Have you ever seen John Carpenter’s Starman? If yes, I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether a Supercorp Starman au would work.
anon i actually have not seen this film but i did some very light research and now im so intrigued by this au idea so i had to come up with something ? this is all based on wikipedia descriptions and youtube clips so i apologize if i get anything wrong
so in starman, an alien from another planet responds to a nasa probe inviting aliens to visit earth. when he arrives, instead of being welcomed like he expects, the starman is shot out of the sky and enlists the help a woman (Jenny) who's dead husband he takes the form of, in order to meet up at a rendevous spot in 3 days so his people can rescue him. they fall in love he gets her--
*double checks notes* yeah okay, he gets her pregnant (she's cool with it i guess) and as they escape a government scientist (Mark Shermin) double crosses the government trying to kill starman and helps them get him to the evacuation site where he is ultimately sucked up into his mother ship, leaving Jenny behind.
everyone got all that ? well, im sold. lets cast our characters.
Our leads,
Starman: is kara zor-el. this is no contest. anon i hope you also thought so or im about to DIVULGE. in the film, starman has an array of weird alien powers, kinda a combination of psychic and shapeshifting/illusion powers, maybe? also apparently his powers all come from these seven silver orbs he has with him. we are going to.... retcon, some of that. apologies.
Jenny: is Lena! Our lonely widow Lena. In this au, Lena is still a scientist, living in National city. Jenny/Lena enters the film as down a husband (or in the case of this au, a wife), which means now its time to cast--
Scott Hayden, AKA Jenny's spouse: is... okay, bear with me for a minute. In the movie, Scott Hayden isnt really a character. Hes just a guy who the starman impersonates to get Jenny to trust him. in our au, starman Kara zor El breaks into Lena's (jenny's) house and finds photos of...
Linda Lee !! Thats right, our good friend Russian Kara makes a reappearance only to be killed off, just like in the show ! (rip. red daughter) Kara, who at the beginning of this au is kinda just like... a ball of light, i guess, finds a piece of blonde hair and creates a clone body from it (i swear im taking this straight from the movie canon) and takes the form of Linda Lee, Lena's deceased wife.
speaking of what pieces of movie canon im choosing to use and choosing to ignore, yes kara is kryptonian in this au. yes im saying all kryptonians are balls of light with the ability to clone bodies for themselves. yes im rejecting the seven magic spheres canon from the movie. yes kara has all her show powers. i contain multitudes.
okay, everyone keeping up ? lets move on !!
Kara zor El and Lena have to get to Arizona in 3 days or Kara will die !! (why will kara die? unsure, the wikipedia wasnt super clear about this. we'll say something about the yellow sun in our au is whats causing it)
Kara and Lena go on a fun romp across the states in an action packed roadtrip montage. this would stay pretty faithful to the original film, i think. not much to change here. as far as Kara getting Lena pregnant goes... uh, i dont write smut, and tbh im not 100% sold on this plot point, so ill just do an **alien sex magic powers** handwave and push that to the side.
as Lena and Kara get closer to Arizona, the government agency hunting them down closes in. which reminds me-- government agency, hunting aliens, trying to dissect them and kill them? uhhhhh, were villainizing the DEO, baby.
there are a couple of reasons for this. yes, CADMUS might work better, but remember, in the 3rd act of this movie/fic one of the scientists needs to go rogue and help Kara and Lena, and having the DEO be the evil government organization hunting down Kara means we get...
ALEX DANVERS AS MARK SHERMIN COMING IN FOR THE THIRD ACT CLUTCH
we get some cool Alex/kara bonding, some last minute confessions from Lena, and as Kara is walking back towards her family's ship come to rescue her, Lena begs Kara to take her with them. Kara tells Lena she would die on Krypton, but tells her not to give up hope. As one final goodbye, Kara gives Lena her mothers necklace, telling her she'll know what to do with it when the time comes.
(many years later, Lena, because she's a brilliant scientist and inventor, of course, creates a device that would allow Kara to live on earth without feeling the effects of the sun. Activating the necklace, Lena summons Kara back to earth, and the two spend the rest of their days together in love.)
so yeah, i think it would work !! hope this satisfied what you were looking for, anon !! thanks for stopping by :D
#thanks anon!#asks#this was super fun !!#scratched my itch to put supercorp into situations without actually having to write the situation#gonna tag this as#sc starman au#thanks for writing in !! feel free to shoot me any other au ideas you might have or want me to peel apart

I wanted to ask you about supercorp being a queerbait. I had this conversation with someone which was very insightful. They basically said that supercorp can't be it because it doesn't have to queerbait as it has canon gay relationships so the audience is already there.
Also they gave examples of rizzole and isles as the queerbait because the show was more *shameful*on-screen and off screen while Supergirl basically avoids any conversation about it.
Then the recent situation with LOT where the show was adamant about not making zarlie a thing but the actresses insisted on it by saying some fans are demanding to make them canon. Now there is kiss . So is this the show's fault or actress?
Sorry for this long ask. But summary is - do you think supercorp is queerbait even when they have said they are just friends(although very rudely). Or people who ship it (me included) are overanalyzing things which the people running the show don't?
i think that:
1) baseline, yes SC is queerbait; when you repeatedly not only write them into situations that, by the show’s own standards, would be unquestionably romantic if one of them were a different gender, but also have your social media & showrunners toss shit out about how the season’s all about their relationship ;) and there’s some wish-fulfilment scenarios in this episode ;) and Stronger Together, Weaker Apart, then yeah we’re well past the qualifications, whether the “audience is there already”* or not.
(*i think “the audience” is sort of like, a moot point in arguments anyways like, which audience? the people who will be streaming on Netflix/HBOMax/whatnot? the live viewership that’s nonexistent? the extremely loud extremely online fans who you know that they will trend the hashtag but might not be in a position to contribute to your Big Numbers?)
2) “there’s Gays on the show so this show’s on and offscreen treatment of/interaction with the community is thus absolutely and unquestionably beyond reproach” is just an incredibly condescending and narrow-minded view in discussing queerbaiting imo, especially with the very clear trend of like “[side character] being allowed to be gay while [main character engaged in an Intense Relationship with a Close Friend] clearly isnt”
3) i don’t know the Zarlie situation so i really can’t comment on the who did what wrong and how much; generally speaking if you know your character is getting pushed together with a man i think it’s unkind to tease another ship that you know won’t be happening but if you write a fucking kiss into it then i just don’t know who the fuck is allowing what where and when. (also at least one of the participants in this ship being out and proud does tip this from “bait” to “hoping to push for rep” but like i said, i dont know the intricate specifics.)

I got a few anons saying 'oh so youre just gonna stop watching the show because supercorp isnt happening? Youre a fake fan' and yknow what, they might have a point....if the show was actually good outside of supercorp, which its not.
If everything else about the show was great and well written/executed, and they had interesting stories going on, and my only issue is my ship not being canon, then yeah, id still watch....but thats not the case, now is it?
Supercorp is the only thing holding my interest in the show right now, and that sucks because i know theyre capable of telling amazing stories. They have amazing characters in their hands, but for whatever reason they refuse to utilize them properly.
So that leaves supercorp, and that keeps disappointing over and over, so why bother? I still keep up with the show online, but who knows, a year from now i might not even be interested in doing that.
They toyed with us time and time and time again, not to mention the constant harrasment we get online from antis and even people involved in the show itself, so you cant get mad at us for finally being like 'Y'know what? Nah. I deserve better'
And if the show finally decides to do better, in any regard, then I'll give it another shot. But until then..

Why can’t Kara be gay??
Soo, once again the CW has posted a video on Instagram and Twitter and of course the comments are full of arguments again. Feel free to ignore, but i need to address a few of the silly ‘points’ being made.
Why is the idea of Kara being LGBT+ such an issue? I literally just saw someone say that:
“Kara and Lena cant be gay because they have been straight since the series started”.
Erm.. well by that logic Alex shouldn't be allowed to be gay either, since she was straight for all of season 1. Oh and dont give me that whole ‘well that was season one, and its different writers and another network now!” Because your next defense (in regards to Kara) is that its never happened in the comics (save that one) so it can NEVER happen!
I think people are forgetting that these are FICTIONAL characters, you can literally do anything you want with them, because they aren’t real!
Someone is saying that Kara cant be gay because Alex already is and that wouldn't be realistic. Yes... because didn’t you know? LGBT+ are limited to ONE per family!! Don’t be greedy, its not realistic for a family to have TWO gay or bi people in it!
Someone mentioned that in one of the Comics Kara has been gay and dated Lois Lane, so it isnt an entirely untouched upon idea.
But no! This is not allowed! Apparently because this comic isnt ‘canon’ to some people it isnt allowed to be used as a precedent. Kara isnt gay in the comics they read so the show cant do it!
erm.... OK, but by that logic should Alex even be allowed to exist at all? Alex doesn't exist in the comics. Also im not a comic reader, but im pretty sure that the Mon El made for the TV show was vastly different to the comic book Mon El/Valor/Lar Grand, character and origin story.
Im pretty sure Kara isnt a reporter for Cat Co in the comics, there are a lot of new things done for the show.
But that’s the thing!! The writers can change up the show as much as they want. They dont have to follow the comics, originality is allowed.
The only time anyone seems to take issue with something being different is when Kara or Lena are suggested to be gay or bi, or even ACE. Hiding behind the ‘Kara has NEVER been gay (etc) as the excuse is just tiresome, you dont want her to be gay, just say it. Id have more respect for you if you just say what you are actually thinking.
People act like women who have only dated men arent allowed to explore their sexuality. Its like ‘NO! You made your choice, you had sex with man, henceforth YOU are straight! No you are NEVER allowed to explore your sexuality ever again, you made your choice and now you have to live with it.
me *looks at Alex Danvers* pretty sure Alex would disagree with you.
haters “Kara told Winn she WASNT gay!” *Congratulates themselves on apparently winning this debate*
Me “erm... . Didnt Alex tell Maggie the same thing??” also me “Kara’s sexuality wasnt the topic of conversation on the roof with Winn, pretty sure she was too preoccupied with coming out as an alien to think much about her sexuality. Plus “Not gay” doesn't mean “Not into women”. Im not gay, but i do date women, there is a word for this.......its OK ill wait while you catch up!”
Lastly Super corp isnt a ‘non existent ship’ the ship exists, if it didn't we wouldn't be able to talk about it. I think what you were trying to say was ‘non canon ship’ I genuinely think that if the show runners and the cast truly hated Supercorp the cast wouldn't talk about it at all. It would be a taboo subject and cast members (Katie) doesnt take issue with it.
So anyway there is actually no legitimate reason that Kara or Lena can’t be gay or bi or etc. It probably wont happen, but shouting your hate at innocent people just makes you look like the douche bag, actually no, it does make you the douche bag.
Peace
(as always hate and bad language will be deleted)

erm im not the original ask-er about leviathan but jsyk that isnt a spoiler? like the finale ended with the mention of leviathan and them being some ominous group or at least pulling strings with eve? i think? idk i dont read spoilers too and stay away from them mostly pretty well cause i dont watch the promos or sneek peaks or anything but i like guessing sometimes or hc stuff and thinking about what could be. do you not want questions or to hc any stuff we dont already know going forward?
Okay, so here's the thing: I have to be super vigilant about spoilers.
Because if I get even a nugget of information about what's gonna happen in a season (be it a casting announcement for a new character, bts photos of a set or action scene, episode stills/synopsis, or any of the other numerous ways the CW spoils tf out of itself), my brain will latch onto it, and then spool out until it's mapped out the entire season.
At the risk of tooting my own horn, I have some really AWESOME ideas, and even if no one else agrees, I get really attached to my version of events, and I get LEGIT ANGRY when canon diverges from my perfect fantasy of how the season should go.
That's what happened in Season 3, and that was a difficult season for me to watch as a result. Reducing my expectations down to zero improves my enjoyment of the series, and helps me focus more on what the show does right.
So what does that mean? I’ll still be posting my usual stuff, and I’ll still headcanon the crap out supercorp, and guardiancorp, and agentcorp, and pretty much every other ship, but I won’t be trying to fit it into canon, if that makes sense.
Since it’s actually going to happen this season, I will go ahead and clarify that the reveal/confrontation headcanons don’t count as spoilers and I will be happy to continue exploring the myriad ways it could play out (unless some detail is leaked by the show, in which case, I don’t want to know about it). Anything using the details we have as of the end of S4 is totally fair game.
Moving forward, all I ask is that y’all be mindful of your S5 spoilers and tag them appropriately. I have it blacklisted, but that only helps if the content is tagged! And the spoiler tag should be used for official content too-- whatever the CW releases is a spoiler until the episode airs.

I have just watched vol 2 and I have some thoughts! (Long post ahead)
Starting with the most obvious discussion point, I get why people find it difficult to label it as queerbait. You can definitely argue it's not because Will hasn't came out officially. He has been hinted at being gay but hasn't came out verbally. The issue is it kind of is because of how hyped it got given the actual statements of the actors (Noah, David, and Finn specifically) and test screening groups (netflixgeeked comments). Queerbaiting, as defined by wikipedia is "a marketing technique employed by fiction and entertainment in which a same sex relationship or other LGBT rep is hinted at yet not actually depicted to attract a queer/ straight ally audience with their suggestion yet avoid alienating their other costumers." Which i would argue is the case of how will and robin/vickie have been treated. Ofc it could have been way worse. Ofc it could have been like Merther, supercorp, johnlock, bechloe, or destiel. But that doesnt mean they weren't making it to be bigger than what it actually was. I'm not saying that because I genuinely hoped Will would come out or that byler would be canon but don't sit there and say it wasn't overhyped or not a marketing strategy. Noah, David, and even Finn made it out to be a huge plot point- or like something that was going expressed concretely. Will never came out. Will never affirmed his feelings. What we got was something more subtextual that would only make sense if you already thought Will was in love with Mike in the first place. More than that, they had to use Will as a stepping stool. He's constantly being pushed to the side or on to advance the plot or mileven in some way. The whole "you're the heart" speech was his way of expressing his love for Mike, yes. It was alluded time and time again that he is fully in love with Mike and that even Johnathan knows about it. The shitty thing isnt isn't that its hinted at, no. Its that he's going to sit here and suffer. They can't even show him move on. He's been stuck in this crush for how long? He can't even admit it to Johnathan. Personally, I think they should've allowed him to admit it verbally already if they wanted to push that narrative. Now, it's just Will being used as a ploy. For s5 I doubt his feelings will be addressed and even if by some slim chance they are, it most likely will end in rejection and heart break. That isn't exactly a win either. It's the gay character in love with straight bsf who wont ever return their feelings trope! It's something that gets pulled time and time again that we as a community deserve to veer away from now. It is accurate to so many lives, sure, but we should get more than that. Then say the even slimmer chance that byler does become canon. Do you think it will be developed in a satisfying way? Chances are it most definitely will not.
On to the whole rockie ordeal. Lets be honest, that was kinda bull. Would I be lying if I said they hyped her character to be more involved that what she was? No. Not at all. She barely had 5 minutes of accumulative screen time. Why was she even included into the plot if she had no substance? Her whole deal was she was just some chick :/ some chick Robin isn't even interested in at the end. If they wanted to push for Rockie so bad why not give them more screen time? Their scene together felt more like a crumb handed to us just so we can be placated- so they can say the one openly queer character gets something! I'm not saying this because I ship ronance but it feels cheap. Super cheap to just thrust Robin with a girl and expect them to have chemistry, regardless of how she felt in the beginning. There was better ways to write her in and show she was bisexual or even remotely interested in Robin. Of the 5 minutes we actually saw her she showed absolutely no interest. None. They could've added in something, literally anything of value IF she was going to be a love interest. The way they wrote it and advertized everything revolving these too feel so flimsy. I cant even tell if she was supposed to be an unrequited crush or not. If she was, why have the last few minutes of the last episode of the season show them? If not, why isnt she more involved? See how cheap that is? This definitely should not be counted as a win. Not for the characters, the relationship, and certainly not for the rep. Besides, why go through all the points and show how utterly devoted she is to Nancy? If we weren't supposed to ship them why even add the scenes in the first place?
Then their mistreatment to Nancy! Wow! She isn't some dolly the boys can fight over and be tossed from side to side! Steve and Nancy reconciling is beautiful. It is meaningful. Necessary for their characters even, but the way it should have happend was not through flirting. Their entire relationship being flirtatious and parallelling jancy in s2 was not needed and most likely thrown in for the commercial value. It was a ploy, lets just be honest about that. What gets me is how they absolutely need Nancy to be in some relationship or confused about who to be with! Why do all of that when regardless of who she gets with (out of steve and Johnathan) she's going to end up like her mother. On the obvious side, she was not happy with Steve. She liked him sure but was on some level settling for the "older boy who had money". Nancy didn't even look like she was happy with Steve declaring Nancy was in his life's dream. She looked like she was going to turn him down. In fact, that further solidifies the parallel between that and the superficial relationship between Karen and Ted. Like those Karen, Nancy is going to be stuck in a relationship with a man she cares about with kids and realize she is unhappy way later in the relationship. Then with Johnny, she's just going to be settling for the trauma bond. Season 2 and 3 showed us they love and care for eachother but cannot be compatible. Being unable to stay together because of class differences and even gender issues is real. They dont understand eachother's struggles on a fundamental level. Then they go off to be long distance. They are too disconnected from eachother to ever work out romantically. Season 4 built on that fact. Nancy didn't even look like she wanted to stay with Johnathan after he asked if they were OK. She just defaulted into a lie because it would hurt less. Johnathan choosing to stay in Cali and go to community college and completely forego their life plan then lie about it isnt something that screams endgame or even solid relationship! It just marks their downfall. It makes no sense for Nancy to be with either of them if I'm being honest. I may be a little biased here in saying this but it really should be Robin or no one. Robin is the only that makes sense to be with Nancy after everything that went down. It would be tasteless for Nancy to just get with some one we can't even root for (an issue I have with Rockie). If they really want to push for a relationship it should be with someone that is compatible, that makes her happy, and someone we know, otherwise it's just shoddy writing and sloppy for her character.
I'm just saying if you can't write it right then why include it at all, you know? What makes it all queerbaiting is the fact they singled out Will's emotional yet coded message to Mike to draw the community to watch it. It's the fact they alluded to this Vickie girl to being more than what she is. It's the fact that Will being gay became regular text through constant hinting by the cast rather than the scraps you had to squint at to see. What people who don't call it queerbait fail to see are the glaring flaws in advertising it in the first place. It can't just be labeled as shipping bitterness so simply. It is an actual issue. I don't see a problem in hoping for something more.
That being said however, I can't say vol 2 flopped. It did exactly what was promised (minus the whole reperesentation of queer relationships). I'm mad they wrote Eddie's death like that too! Don't get me wrong! But I can't say I was suprised it happend. I do agree with y'all here tho, it could have been executed/written better or avoided entirely. It didn't need to play out the way it did. It was gripping and tbh I was yelling at the TV more than I care to admit. That just goes to show how powerful it is. The cinematography was breathtaking and I enjoyed everything they did with vecna! I loved most characters and it did make me curious for what will happen in s5.
#just my silly light two cents#st an essay#not a shipping focused essay but does mention some#stranger things#stranger things season 4#stranger things 4 spoilers#robin buckley#nancy wheeler#stranger things 4#steve harrington

I'm not trolling, but I am confused and curious. As both a member of SC and SQ I am pro w/w and I dont particularly enjoy canon in that regard. But am I being racist for not liking the straight pairing with 1/2 of my ship if it is not a white dude? Or is it only because it isnt a white dude that I dont like the ship? Can I enjoy the character with someone else and have it not be racist? Can I call out a character on their problems and not be racist or is it part of my dislike or an undercurrent?
The original post was very clear. You can’t simply treat the ship as “just a dude” and heteronormativity. Interracial relationships on TV are not normal anything. African American characters are not a dime a dozen on tv. I don’t care if you ship it or not. But it simply can not be treated the same way CS or OQ were treated.
If you have missed that treating James and Lena like any other het couple (and dismissing his character after people rightly complained about Kara and James being broken up for Mon El) has harmed the reputation of Supercorp as a fandom you’ve been living in a bubble.
You don’t have to ship them but you have to be careful how you handle it.
I’ve seen that play out before. What it does is expose white lesbians for the clueless white women we can be.
I’m not big on reliving mistakes.

y dont u ship Karamel isnt it easyer 2 ship a real ship then a made up 1?
Oh, sweet summer child…this ask pains my brain for so many reasons.
Captitalization and punctuation. Learn it. Love it.
As for shipping Karamel being easier…when has shipping been about ease? It’s about the chemistry seen between characters. Through season1, I shipped Winnara, Karolsen and Kara/James/Winn. The characters and their relashionships were developed and they all respected each other. It was clear the show was going with Karolsen as canon and that was great, I could watch a healthy ship on the show and have my other ships in fandom.
Shipping Kara with either James or Winn provided her a relationship with someone who shared her desire to help people because it is the right thing to do and a partner who respected her as an equal adult.
The Season 2 and Mon El happened.
A self-admitted misogynist who lamented that “life was easier when I objectified women” in an attempt to garner sympathy. He has no interest in saving the world or anything besides his own self interests and even when he began ‘helping’ it was only to impress and ‘protect’ Kara. He was a spoiled space frat boy of the worst kind.
And the CW decided that this was the type of person to pair Kara with, to make her set aside her own life and goals in order to help a man child achieve self-actualization. Which he does not, not for quite some time, though Kara begins a relationship with him before he has learned from his mistakes, and there’s no real impetus for her forgiving him.
Again and again, without any real motivation, Kara forgives him. Her life as a reporter gets pushed aside, as does the search for her foster dad (though they do get picked up again later). Her life began to revolve aroundmaking Mon-El a better person. Then the show decided to insult Kara and fans alike by stating that Mon-El is as good as it gets for Kara in the romance area.
When you have to have an episode like “Mr. & Mrs. M” to juxtapose Mxyzptlk’s ‘nice guy’ character with Mon-El’s ‘nice guy’ to say, hey, at least he’s not that bad...
Fuck that noise. Kara should not have to settle for someone who is controlling, refuses to listen to her wants and refuses to accept no for an answer after he is turned down. She deserves someone who respects her as a person and a hero.
Sure, towards the end of the season, he did grow abit, but his earlier traits left a sour taste in my mouth with regards to shipping him and Kara. Almost any other ship, Karolsen, WInnara or even SuperCorp, would be far healthier for Kara.
I blame Twilight for glorifying unhealthy, toxic relationships to young girls and boys. Maybe it’s just me getting older and seeing these things, but, Karamel is just one of those ships that has a big flashing Neon NO for me.
Also...NONE OF SUPERGIRL IS REAL. It’s a fictional show and all the relationships are fiction. I can ship whoever the hell I want, just as you can.

Hi! I've seen a lot of SC stans on Twitter saying they're getting tired of interacting with the SG cast lately. Like a lot of people now. And I feel that, they only reach out when they want attention, then they turn around and tell us off about something nasty someone from the other side of the fandom did/say. And THEN, they pander to those nasties. And you know, I kind of get it? It's getting tiresome being the scapegoat of the whole fandom when we're the main support of the show. Thoughts?
I agree for the most part, however there are definitely some SCs that take personal offense to the actors not mentioning our ship. In my experience, fandoms and actors dont mix the best. Especially fandoms of (currently) non canon ships. After SDCC17 they were probably advised not to talk too much about Supercorp, but we have made strides with them. They do interact with us and vaugley mention things. Honestly, its better than most people get. It absolutely sucks when things get turned on us for sure, like with Staz's post though.
So honestly, i understand peoples frustration, and i would advise to keep them at arms length. Dont beg for their attention and think they owe us to talk about supercorp all the time. Especially when the two people in the ship dont even interact on social media (one of them isnt even on it lol). Dont take anything the cast says to heart, as they know little more than we do about where theyre going in regards to supercorp.

The show is called 'Supergirl'.
OK, I couldn't think of a good enough title for this post.
I've never been a massive twitter fan, but recently I've been reading comments on the weekly official Supergirl posts and/or looking at #supergirl and a lot of what I'm seeing is people calling for the show to be more about the other characters.
One in particular character people are calling for more of or stating IS the show is Nia. Now I LOVE Nia!! I also think it's fantastic they have the first Trans superhero! But no matter how good, funny, adorable etc Nia is she isn't what makes the show good. She's part of the show, not the show itself. Supergirl survived 3 seasons without Nia and should Nia ever leave (I hope not) the show would still survive without her. To say that Nia is the show and you only want more Nia is a bit of an insult to Supergirl herself and the previous seasons.
Another character is Lena. Now anyone who follows me or even reads my posts will know I LOVE Lena! I would watch a Lena Luthor solo show or Katie McGrath doing Ted Talks as Lena, and i will defend her to the very end. Now we've got that out of the way, Lena is like Nia, she is an additional character who makes the show great but isn't the heart of the show itself. We all survived watching Supergirl season one without Lena and as much as I would be devastated if she left I wouldn't stop watching the show if she did. We know Lena was only meant to be in a few episodes but was so popular she became a season regular. That makes her amazing and obviously a fan favorite to a lot of people (me) but the show would still be Supergirl if she wasn't there. I love Lena but it isn't the Lena Luthor show.
Mon El was another one, he was a love interest and an additional character. Again, anyone who has read my posts will know I'm not a Mon El fan, but I don't attack him or his fans. But the show did feel like it became more about him than it did about Kara. Every post I see on Twitter or Instagram has demands that the show should or NEEDS to bring him back. That the show isn't the same anymore without him. Now you're entitled to miss your favorite character but to demand the show NEEDS to bring him back is another insult to Supergirl herself. Supergirl was a great show before Mon El turned up and it is still a great show now that he is gone. Before anyone says 'no it isnt' I would counter that argument with 'well your obviously still watching it or following it to know what's going on, so you have to have some interest in it'. If you're not watching it because you miss Mon El or demand he should be back then all i can ask is did you even watch Supergirl before he turned up at all? Have you even given it a chance now he's gone? The show wasn't and still isn't called 'the Mon El show'.
Those who want more James Olsen? Now we ALL know I can't stand James. So less James for me or no James at all would make my day! And no I'm not racist before anyone bothers to jump to that conclusion. It is possible for a character of color to be disliked because people don't like the character and nothing to do with skin color. I read 'we want more James!' 'give us back Guardian Corp', 'they did James dirty' . All I can say is again this isn't The James Olsen show either. James' storylines have sucked for the past couple of seasons, even the writers don't seem to know what to do with him. There was that one episode with Marcus that was good. He had that story he told to Lena about racial profiling but then when he had that moment to empathize with him they then wrote him as being a complete dumb ass and revealing his identity and we all know where that led. The whole Guardian storyline was atrocious (to me) but demanding more of him?
I saw someone say that they we're happy Lex Luthor was in the show because now the writers will see that Superman is who people really care about 😑 all I can say to that is if Superman is all you care about why the hell are you watching a show called 'Supergirl'? My guess at best is that it's a guy who is actually 💯% devoted to watching Supergirl and he enjoys it but can't admit that even to himself which is kind of sad. Then again it could have been a girl.
I was never a fan when Superman turned up. I like the guy that plays him and I don't hate the character or the episodes he's in. I just preferred it when he was just a siluette or someone Kara spoke to via instant messenger. Bringing him into it as an actual character kind of took the shine off of Supergirl for me. Thought I'm glad they had her kicking his ass.
The same goes for Lex Luthor, I like Jon Cryer's Lex, but the moment I heard he was coming into it I wasn't happy. He isn't Kara's villian. It felt like the writers just wanted to go down the cliche Lex V Superman road but since they couldn't do that without bringing on Superman for multiple episodes they decided to just swap him with Kara. He doesn't even real feel like Kara's villian. To me it feels like the real fight is between Lena and Lex with Kara just getting in the middle of it. The writers have always had a Luthor V Super storyline since season 2 when they brought in Lillian Luthor. That's what was so great! We knew Lex existed but he was in prison, so we had another big bad Luthor and it was a woman. I've digressed.
For the people on Twitter and Instagram demanding on every post that Supercorp needs to happen? Or 'make Supercorp canon you cowards!'? I'll probably make myself unpopular with my fellow supercorp shippers here by condeming comments like that but all i is can say is 🖕. I LOVE the idea of Kara and Lena as a couple, but I'm well aware its a head canon and is extremely unlikely to ever happen. But I feel the fans (not all of course, me being a clear example) spamming the comments with demands and insults isn't the way to get what you want.
I think the biggest problem that shippers have, Supercorp, Karamel, Karadox, Karaolsen, Agentcorp, Reigncorp, GuardianCorp all seem to forget is that the show isn't about ships. The show is and always has been about Supergirl herself. When I see comments on the posts/previews the majority of comments are about SuperCorp or Karamel and not about what is actually going on plot wise. I feel you are missing out on the show because you're to wrapped up in what you want to happen.
Yes I know that the show has often moved away from Supergirl, an example being the above when it became more about Mon El, that's something I'm not on board with either. But sending out hate to the writers isn't going to fix that issue.
If you're going to be in a mard about something be in one in regards to what is actually happening plot wise. Like disliking the COL, the snow expects you to hate on that.
I went off track in a few spots there, but the point is the show is called 'Supergirl' so why not talk about that rather than ignoring her completely and demanding more of other characters? Or making Kara's whole storyline important only due to who her love interest may or may not be. Also it's obviously fine to comment #supercorp endgame, it's not hurting anybody. But when you cross the line into 'make Supercorp canon you cowards' you've taken all the Innocent fun out of it and you start making everyone who likes the ship look like an ass. The same goes for writing about Karamel. I'm sorry you miss them but demanding Mon El come back in every post isn't going to make it happen. Lastly to the actual trolls? Shipping Supercorp or Karamel or whatever isn't a crime or hurting anyone so f**k off! Supercorp shippers, the Karamel shippers are allowed to miss Mon El, the same as you would miss Lena if she was gone. Having useless arguments about him being a slave owner or not a slave owner or if he's an abuser or not an abuser anymore etc etc. Is old, tiresome and completely irrelevant now that he's gone. You've already won because he's gone, so let people ship in peace. Karamel shippers? Let the Supercorp shippers ship in peace as well, commenting consistently that Lena and Kara aren't gay and it can neverer happen isn't achieving anything at all. Commenting under a simple Supercorp comment with negativity isn't big or clever.
Lastly I get that when you see what you perceive to be injustice on social media you feel the need to attack those people head on. The fact is you dont. This is a TV show, no one gives a rats ass what you have to say and you will pointlessly argue and no one will change their stance. Whenever I see someone say something about Lena that is completely untrue just to justify not liking her it annoys me, at least use a real reason. But I don't attack them personally or comment on their comments. I block them, and then as I'm doing now I let my frustrations out on here. Try it, it's very therapeutic and less drama involved.
That was a jumbled mess of words for 2am but don't send hate, if you do you'll have missed the point entirely.
