Rapid fire thoughts:

Dude with the bionic arms is apparently Blockbuster not Metallo like I thought initially. Weird to see him but this is the same show that brought in Heatwave and basically only used the name, so maybe their take on Blockbuster will be similar where they use the name and nothing else. Still hoping to see Metallo, he's such a perfect fit for this show that I'm shocked they didn't use him straight away

Alex confirmed to be Lex, surprising absolutely no one. How is he going to go bald I wonder? If Superman is the cause I will cackle.

KARA CONFIRMED! Her suit looks really cool and I love that they gave her the spikey hair like Caulifla over in Dragon Ball has. Bet MAWS Kara will get a similar personality too

Rich Jimmy! Really hoping he gets to be more proactive this season

Someone pointed out to me that at 0:58 you can see a man in a mech suit wielding a hammer. At first I thought it was MAWS Perry but that guy has a goatee not a beard and their hairstyles are slightly different. If that's Steel I'll be jumping for joy, love Irons and like Metallo he's a natural fit for this series

Ok look the odds of this are overwhelmingly against, but what if that red orb Supes is struggling with is Solaris? They've cited All-Star Superman as an influence!

Multiple scenes in the trailer where Clark is glowing blue, c'mon give us Superman unlocking his Electric Blue form as his version of going Super Sayian!

In short it looks great and I can't wait for S2 to begin next month. We also might have the MAWS version of Bloodsport showing up in the Josie Campbell tie-in, so I'm definitely checking that out. Man this is the kind of Superman product we sorely need more of, really hoping that Gunn will renew this show for another two seasons.

Super Forms brainstorming

When I have time I wanna develop super forms more based on the Super Amy concept I had a while back and to subtly make each super form with a distinct theme connected to them. I’ll start with the main four:

Super Sonic: Most simple with a Shooting star theming, a spark won’t go out. Keeps the wind motif with his speed. Probably gives off a breeze even when flowing still but said Aura is both warm and cool. Like a comforting feeling that everything gonna be alright. The most experience in handling his form.

Super Amy: Pushing into a Burning Flower motif, a pink gold aura akin to mother nature. Flames emitted in petals and give life to the plants in her surroundings literally. While Sonic posture is akin to Sayians, Amy more magical girl inspired moving in a more elegent but determine pace. Flames don’t burns as strongly but take time and the bud can bloom into a sparking nova. Also gets to summon multiple hammers cause she deserves treat.

Super Knuckles: If Sonic is a star, Knuckles is a blasting meteorite. An indestructible force that can move and shape the earth with his fists. Aura akin to lava and earth yet he the most control in his powers, being cautious in the life that surround him. Focus more defensively stance until he quick burst into an opening with his fiery fists. Sticks the most to a traditional warrior fighting style.

Super Tails: Gonna take some creatively liberties in regards to the flickies being glowing stars instead. Tails may seen similar to Sonic’s star motif but his aura more akins to sparking fireworks. Instead of flowing wind its electrical currents, overcoming a power he fears and making it his own. He’s still growing, so his sky aura may evolve further away from Sonic’s the more he grows. I also think it would be cool if his super form colors changes to a white blue eventually, akin to how kitsune change color when they become celestial. (also to contrast/nod to Sonic’s yellow)

and that’s what I got so far, see what will expand later.

Destroying the Red Ribbon Army: Chapter One

There it was, the planet near Namek that his sons described: Earth. King Cold, or Emperor Cold if one was being formal, looked over the planet. Finally, he could attack whatever this Red Ribbon Army was, take his grand daughter back, and get Frieza’s mental state back to normal. He noted that the Earth was mostly a bright blue, which he thought was nice. Cold went to sit in his captain’s chair as the ship began entering the atmosphere. 

The emperor also wondered if he could meet this ‘Super Saiyan from Earth’ that Frieza described so much as well while he was there, but he would have to see how long this campaign/rescue mission took. The ship landed in a big flat field covered in green. When Cold stepped off the ship, he noted how the blades of the green stuff poked his feet gently. 

“Emperor, I feel a few ki signals coming. They seem to want to fight.” a scout said looking up at him for orders

“How is this possible? Did this Red Ribbon Army know we were coming?” Cold asked the socut, crossing his arms and holding his confidence firm.

“No, I don’t think it’s that. There’s not enough of them for it to be an army.” the scout replied

“Then wait, let’s see what these Earthlings want.” Cold ordered.

The Earthlings landed in front of him. There were five of them, no, four, one of them was a Namekian. There was one who had three eyes, one with a scar across his face, a small white Earthling wearing a hat, and another smaller one with a flat face. The scout was correct, they were definitely prepared for a fight. 

“You think coming here in your second form is going to intimidate us, Frieza?” the one with the flat face asked. 

“You mistake me for someone else,” Cold replied, “Frieza is my youngest son. I am his father, King Cold. Unless you Earthlings are a part of the Red Ribbon Army I did not come here to fight you.”

“Wait, you said the Red Ribbon Army?” the three eyed one asked, seemingly surprised about his intentions.

“Damnit you two, what did you do to traumatize these people?” Cold thought to himself before answering the question. “Yes, you see, this Red Ribbon Army has my grandchild, however, since both of my sons have proven that they could not be trusted to not… Let their emotions control their actions. I have taken the liberty of taking over the search. With the intelligence we have, we have discovered it was the Red Ribbon Army that took the crown princess. What you see here is a campaign to destroy the Red Ribbon Army and return my grand daughter home.” 

“Wait, you’re going to try and destroy the Red Ribbon Army?” the one witht he scar asked, now the Earthlings seemed very confused.

“Well he’s welcome to try,” The Namekian said.

“Listen,” the one with the flat face started “We’re supposed to be training for an android invasion that’s going to happen in about three years. If you’re going to try and invade Earth, at least be upfront about and don’t try to trick Earth’s strongest into throwing themselves in front of the Red Ribbon Army.”

Cold sighed, he was really was going to have to interrogate his sons about their actions when he got back. “Listen, I know my sons have done stupid things before, but that is the exception for them, not the rule. I am telling the truth about my campaign. If you’re not going to help you can stay out of the way.”

“Wait, we actually have a common enemy,” The three eyed one interjected, “If you have a plan to destroy the Red Ribbon Army then we want to help. You see, the Red Ribbon Army are the guys making the andriods we’re training to fight. Unfortunately, Goku and Vegeta, the Sayians on our team, are busy training elsewhere. However we are available to lend our strength if you’re willing to let us help you.”

“Dude! Are you crazy!?” the scarred one shouted, “You can’t be sure you can trust this guy!”

“Actually, if this really is an opportunity to get rid of the Red Ribbon Army once and for all, I’m actually all for it. Besides, if he betrays us we can just defeat him anyways.” The flat faced one said. 

“At least if we can’t completely get rid of them, we’ll be able to weaken them before the invasion.” The Namekian said.

“So, um,” the child like one finally piped up. “Who are you anyways?”

“Like I said earlier,” King Cold answered, “I am King Cold, Frieza and Coller’s father.” 

“We should probably introduce ourselves. I’m Krillin,” he pointed to the Namekian “That’s Piccolo,” he pointed to the three eyed one “That’s Tien” the pointed to the one with the scar “That’s Yamcha” and finally, he pointed to the child like one “and that’s Chiaotzu.” 

These Earthlings got friendly quick. Well this did work out in his favor, as he didn’t have to fight an unnecessary fight. “Why don’t the five of you come on to my ship, and you can tell me what you know?” Cold turned his back to them and proceeded to reboard his ship after gesturing at the Earthlings to follow him.

The Earthlings were definitely hesitant to follow him at first, but they followed him inside anyways. King Cold definitely was different from Frieza and Cooler. It definitely felt like he had authority; he was also a lot more levelheaded and overall calm than the other two, though that might just be his age. They wondered about the scenario he was talking about. Was one of those brutes really a father? Was the king telling the truth at all? They would have to play along to find out. At least he was smarter than his sons.

At least he didn’t decide to kill anyone right away too, that was a plus.

One example of a LitRPG that doesn't do the things you described is the Arcane Ascension series by Andrew Rowe. Absolutely fantastic set of stories and the author does a brilliant of integrating the more 'game mechanic' parts in a natural way.

Most importantly, he has a chart in essay 2 which I think is helpful:

In almost every case, I fall on the side of fairness; Because basically everything in the Uniqueness category annoys me. To me, those are the ingredients of a very dull story.

With one major exception: the focus on character goals.

See, I think it's very bad to make your story about the setting. You want to write a sourcebook for your world, go ahead, but that's not your main story. Lord of the Rings is not the Silmarillion. (Also, if you can sit down and read the Silmarillion then you are possibly a masochist because while it's interesting it's extremely boring).

That's not to say that your world doesn't need worldbuilding. But worldbuilding is not why you're writing a story.

Harry Potter's first like four books are a good example of why magic just doing things is perfectly fine, and it's last three books are a great example of why making the story about the world is very bad. Lore Olympus' first like, half where it's a normal romance novel is a perfect example of why character focus works, and the train wreck of a last half is a great example of why world focus does not.

I would probably argue that Diskworld is a great example of why you can just do anything and it really doesn't matter, because it's the characters that matter. The worldbuilding for Diskworld is intentionally nuts and nonsensical, and that's perfectly fine because the characters make the story.

I tend to fall into the category of absurdist when it comes to everything except writing. I find the Dragon Ball idea that 'fuck it, just keep getting stronger until the literal gods bow to you' is boring as hell. The idea that there are hard limits on people's abilities, that these are decided genetically, and that no one seems to care at all is really stupid to me. To me there's no difference between 'a human can't beat a sayian' and 'an orc is naturally evil.' But it also dovetails with a lot of sports manga beginning with 'japanese people are shit at sports, actually.' (That's not me saying that, everything from Blue Lock to Haikyuu starts with 'actually japanese people are meek and short and weak and we can't beat foreigners' and to someone outside the culture that's weird as hell.)

To put it another way, and I hate giving Rowling credit, because she wrong the most milquetoast child fantasy story ever, imagine if when the concept of purebloods was introduced and the reaction was not 'there's actually no difference, they're just bigoted shits' but instead was 'yeah they're just naturally better than everyone else, bloodlines are super important and if you're not one you're doomed to mediocrity.'

This is, incidentally, why outside of folklore and historical fantasy I really hate the concept of the chosen one. Like, King Arthur gets two special magic swords and now everyone is just like 'yep he's going to save the realm now!'

That makes sense as folklore and myth. It makes less sense as narrative if you're trying to tell a story in the modern method.
