'Got done dirty' = largely the bikini and the sexualisation, but that (and wasted potential) for the sequels which...I'm not a big fan of. Some of it was circumstance, but...eh.

thanks again for both sending in prompts and for waiting so patiently 🥰 i combined them into one lil oneshot/drabble thingy that i decided is set in some sort of post-apocalyptic au — probably my zombie!AU from years ago that i never finished and still think about. they’re not together yet in this, though.

8) “This is gonna hurt like a bitch, but I have to stitch up that wound” + 13) “There’s no shame in crying. I promise”

"Hey, hey, look at me," Perry huffs, words spilling out in a rush. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

With gritted teeth, JD nods, his eyes squeezed shut. “My thigh,” he manages.

Perry wastes no time in peeling JD’s jeans off, all worries of modesty and propriety flying out the window. JD does his best not to wince, his breath coming in quick, shallow puffs. Sure enough, on the outside of his right thigh, there’s a deep slice that’s bleeding sluggishly. Judging by the look of it, it didn’t just happen.

“Newbie, what the hell?” Perry leans in to inspect the wound before sitting up to tear off a piece of the flannel he’s wearing.

“Everything happened so fast — all of a sudden, we were running and —” JD breaks off, hand flying up to his mouth to stifle his scream when Perry applies pressure to the gash. The pain is intense and so much more acute than the dull ache of the wound itself.

“I know, kiddo, I’m sorry.” He knows there’s no time to waste; there hasn’t been since this all began. And he trusts that JD knows that and won’t hold any of this against him. “Deep breath now.”

JD does as he’s told, sucking in a sharp breath just before Perry applies even stronger pressure and holds it. He whimpers, head falling back and hands balled into fists against the concrete he’s sitting on. He loses track of how long they remain that way, knowing Perry’s just trying to stop the bleeding. Every so often, his breathing hitches with sobs he’s desperate not to let out. He can go to pieces later, once they’re somewhere safe.

“There’s no shame in crying.” Perry’s voice is much softer now and the shock of it is enough to make JD’s eyes fly open. “I promise.”

“I know that,” JD mutters, jaw tight. “Just… it’s more of a luxury these days, don’t you think?”

Perry considers this, but does not reply. It’s not like he wants the kid to cry, but watching and listening to him try so hard not to seems worse somehow. “I’m gonna check to see if it’s still bleeding, all right?”

With the steady hands of a doctor, Perry gradually eases the pressure he’s been applying and peels away the piece of flannel. JD still hisses and tries to jerk away, but there’s no way to make the process any less painful.

“Bleeding’s slowed way down,” he reports, noting the sheen of sweat on JD’s face. Despite the good news, Perry knows it’ll start right back up again the moment he tries to move JD. He’s kept an emergency kit in his pack since the very beginning, though he hoped never to have to use it. In silence, he sits back on his heels and pulls the kit from his bag.

“Oh,” JD moans when he realizes what Perry is doing. There’s no point in arguing, of course, but damn it. He supposes he should be grateful to have a sterilized emergency kit and a doctor he knows and trusts, but all he can think about is the pain.

Perry avoids JD’s eyes while he prepares the necessary tools. “This is gonna hurt like a bitch.” Finally, he looks up at JD and gives his other thigh a gentle squeeze. “But we’ve got to get that stitched up so we can get you back home.”

There’s no choice, no other option. All he can do is give Perry the go ahead and try not to scream. He holds firm as Perry uses their precious clean water to wash out the wound, though his entire body tenses and his nerves feel like they’re on fire. The tears come when Perry makes the first stitch. The pain is razor sharp, worse than the original slice, and he makes a punched-out noise as air rushes out of his lungs.

Perry doesn’t stop, not even as JD sobs and pants through the anguish. He can’t focus on the horrible noises JD makes, can’t acknowledge that he’s the cause of them. All he can do is make the process as quick as possible so JD doesn’t have to suffer any more than absolutely necessary.

“It’s over now,” he announces, setting aside the needle for later cleaning. JD’s cries have quieted some, but his face is pale and he’s shaking. In an instant, Perry doesn’t care if some imaginary rule in his head tells him he shouldn’t. He drops a soft kiss on JD’s forehead and wraps him up in his arms. Without question, JD clings to him, sniffling, and taking far too much comfort in the embrace. There’s a first time for everything.

was watching s7ep6 of scrubs last night, and there's a scene where jd, turk, and dr cox are in the cafe. jd asks why the other two keep competing against each other and dr cox goes "because that's what men do", and jd turns to turk for confirmation (turks nods). and now i can't stop thinking about trans jd and turk supporting him when he comes out 🥺 him exploring his gender and asking turk "is this something men do?" about certain things, and turk always saying "yes". because even if he doesn't understand being trans on a personal level, jd is his best friend and he'll support him no matter what

I have literally had these exact same thoughts bc of that scene. Like it fits SO well and it's already been long since established that JD always looked to Turk to figure out what was cool, so it follows that this would be the same. Like JD owes so much of his college/med school experience to Turk for just reassuring him when he needs it. And it may not be something he ever actually acknowledges out loud unless he's all drunk and teary, Turk is literally his friend soulmate. And yeah, Turk definitely fucked up sometimes, especially when he first found out, bc he doesn't always get it, but there's never been a doubt that he loves JD for who he is, even if he likes or does things that aren't traditionally "manly"

7) What kind of common romance tropes do you enjoy and what kind do you dislike? I'm such a sucker for fake dating/marriage, forced proximity, enemies or friends to lovers, and unexpected love interest. Ones I don't care for include love at first sight, misunderstanding/miscommunication, love triangles, or anything involving infidelity.

16) Favorite trilogy. I actually haven't read that many series in general and even less that are trilogies, so by default it's The Hunger Games but I also really really liked The Testing series by Joelle Charbonneau!

20) Where and how do you find new books to read? Since I've just gotten back into reading for the first time in years, I reached out to a few friends who I know read a lot, asked on here and on Facebook, and I go through the recommended section on storygraph a lot. I also just go to the library and judge books by their covers lmao
