I am planning to focus my micro history on my childhood as it is an important period of my life, where many of my traits and mindsets have based off of. Even if we look into the studies of psychologist, we can see that the ages around 5 are one of the most significant times in our lives in terms of determining who we become or the ideas/principles we decide to follow and believe in. I chose this place as my setting,, because it is the first ever taste of 'social' relationing i experienced apart from my family, and where the relationships I had with my teachers and fellow classmates really shaped how I act and think today. I think elementary school is a key moment in my life history and a great place to explore in terms of looking into micro historys especially if its on a personal level. As most schools Sunnybrae Normal School is a very colorful place in terms of physical looks and diversity and this is something I really enjoyed about this setting. I want to look into the murals hanging around the buildings done by young art students:) and the choices of colours used around the designs at school. I also am hoping to create my images with a more low-key, slower paced mood of almost having the vibe of feeling void and a sense of emptiness,, in order to reflect on those times and who I have become now:)

Kind of like how often in movies or songs the people or music is upbeat and looks/sounds happy,, but at the bottom line or the real content is sad and depressing. And because its so sad,, but people are instead expressing happiness on the outside,,, it all just becomes more sad to watch or hear. (If that makes any sense😅) this is the kind of feeling or mood I want to display.

I want to look at colors, so have a sense of colorfulness at the same time as having a low key mood, a warmer color instead of cold colors.

My focus is not going to be on people or figures but more on settings, and environments or objects. But I plan to use portrait instead of landscape.

It’s with a very heavy heart that I tell those of you who may have heard about the recent mudslide in British Columbia that the houses destroyed belonged to my grandparents. Their insurance will not be covering any of the damages whatsoever, for the homes or their belongings, and they have just recently retired. Before they even had a chance to really enjoy it, this happened, and it is beyond unfair but there’s nothing I or anyone else can do about it now except try to help.
