The brilliant, sunny day Linkon City offered might have felt warmer if you weren’t feeling so lonely watching everyone have picnics in the city park. It was on a lovely summer day like today where you, grandma, and Caleb used to pack up your own basket and make a trip to your favorite spot in this same park. That was before the accident. Now, you spend your afternoons ensuring the safety of Linkon’s citizens instead, and your only warmth is the memories you carry of those moments. 

Your phone rings, interrupting your thoughts. It’s Sylus and you think about not picking up but it might be important. He doesn’t bother with hello, but his unnerving way of greeting you doesn't disappoint. 

“Why do you look sad?” He asks, then chuckles when you don’t answer. “…Now you look angry.” 

“Who wouldn’t be angry knowing that they were being watched?” You huff in exasperation, but you’re not truly mad. You’d never admit it, but there was a strange comfort in knowing that Sylus was watching you more often than not. 

“If you don’t want to tell me,” Sylus drawled lazily. “Why don’t you tell me who that young, handsome, raven-haired doctor-” 

You cut him off, not wanting to answer that question even less than the first.

“I was sad about the people picnicking in the park, but I’m fine now.” 

“Why?” He doesn’t sound like he cares and maybe he doesn’t, but you answer him with sincerity anyway. 

“This is the time of the year I usually do–well, did stuff like that with Grandma and Caleb. You know, before…” You trail off, hoping he gets the hint. You don’t want to blame Sylus when you don’t actually know whether he was responsible or why it happened, but that doesn’t stop you from mourning what was lost and feeling frustrated he wouldn’t give you the answers you desperately seek. 

The silence on the other end of the line is heavy. 

“I see,” Sylus finally says quietly, if for nothing else than to fill that silence. You lean against the fence and look out over the park, watching as some kids tumble over each other to grab a runaway ball. Silence falls between you again and it was hard for you to fill it without sounding bitter so you didn’t. 

There was a soft clattering in the background on Sylus’s end of the line and he murmurs softly, “I have to go.” “Sure.” you answered just as quietly, and the line disconnects with neither of you saying goodbye or with well wishes of safety. You stare at his contact for a long time, your thoughts your own until a bouncy ball rolls into your boot. The kids come running over, laughing and tripping over each other in their haste to get to the ball first. You smile and kick the ball up into your hand. 

“Throw it back, lady!” One of them crows and they all hold their hands up ready to catch it. You do and can’t help but smile as they fight over it. 

With one last look around the park to ensure it was safe, you make your way back to headquarters, desperate for a distraction. 

You don’t find one, the place deserted. In fact, things were disgustingly quiet and while you are grateful, you also wish that you had something to do. With a sigh you leave for the day after writing your boring reports and go home. However, when you find yourself standing in front of your door, there’s a crimson envelope taped to it. 

Upon further inspection, It’s a map with a cleverly worded scavenger hunt written in a familiar scrawl. Sylus’s handwriting has become familiar to you and his elegant, almost dramatic style was outdated but endearing. The map was enough to pique your curiosity, so you change into something more casual and set out on the adventure awaiting you. It was better than wallowing in grief and self-pity all evening at home, anyway. 

After many twists, turns, and one lost apple later, you arrive at the marked spot on Whitesand beach just after dark with a picnic basket brimming with goodies. The moon hangs low in the sky, but the illuminating glow promises a full one tonight. Sylus had already arrived ahead of you, of course, and he was stretched out on a blanket, quietly scrolling through his phone. A bottle of wine and two glasses are all he brought besides himself. 

“You’re late, kitten.” he says without a hint of mercy. You want to chuck the basket at his head but instead you kick off your sandals and join him on the blanket, putting the overstuffed basket in front of the both of you. 

“I can’t believe you made me do all the shopping.” 

Sylus shrugged one shoulder, tucking his phone away. “I knew you’d pick out things we both would like.” 

“What if I didn’t and I picked stuff you hate?” You retorted, sulking a little. 

“Did you?” he mused thoughtfully. “If you did, I’d still eat it, as long as it was chosen by you.” 

When he said such saccharine sentiments so easily they felt insincere, but you knew by now that they weren’t. He was shameless, his smirk lost in the shadows cast by the moonlight. 

The revelry begins now that you’re here and Sylus uncorks the bottle in silent celebration of your arrival. It’s an easy camaraderie between the two of you now, and it’s hard for you to stay irritated at his antics when he’s so animated and open with you this way. The two of you exchange stories and he listens with his cheek propped on his fist as you tell him about the experiences you had as a child, or silly anecdotes like what happened with those children today.

Sylus is an attentive listener, eager to hear you talk about the most mundane things as if they’re the most fascinating story he’s ever heard. As the night goes on, you realize you’re both a little tipsy. The conversation between you finally lulls and when you look at Sylus, you see his cheeks are as flushed as yours. You can’t help but stare and he raises an eyebrow when he catches you. 

“What?" he says, bemused. "Do I have something on my face?” You shake your head and seem awkward about being caught staring, but he only chuckles in response. Sylus saves you from the moment by picking up a small pastry from a bakery you like and offers it to you.

“Here, try this,” he murmurs softly. Instead of taking it from him, you lean over and take a bite from his hand. It’s delicious and you want him to try it, too. 

“Have you tried it yet, Sylus? It’s…” Whatever you were going to say is cut off as Sylus leans in and kisses you suddenly, his warm lips pressed firmly against yours. He smells like wine and something you can’t quite define underneath that, but you sink into the kiss. He cradles your jaw gently and deepens his affections. His kiss is full of languid passion, unhurried, warm and inviting. He doesn’t try for more and when he pulls back to look at you with such tenderness it makes your heart twinge. You want to know the truth, but you’re also afraid if he confirms your fears that the way you feel right now will fade and you don’t want that to end yet. 

So you lean in to kiss Sylus again with only the moonlight watching, and cling to the finite moments you have with him instead of the graveyard of memories waiting for you back home.

Actually, we knew where he was: On the beach at his shore home in Delaware. Prepping for his next vacation in Lake Tahoe. Issuing a reptilian ‘no comment’ when asked about the thousand-plus people missing and the Pompeii-like damage and what his plan was.

When was he going to visit?

For what it’s worth, I wrote an impassioned column imploring the president to go.

Now I take it all back. The people of Maui have suffered enough.

Joe Biden finally saw fit to interrupt his second vacation since the wildfires, to don his well-worn mantle as Empathizer-in-Chief, put his feet on the ground in Hawaii and comfort the survivors, 13 days after the fires.

It did not go well.

‘F**k you!’ was the prevailing greeting to his motorcade. Residents held unwelcoming signs: ‘It’s too late’. ‘Actions speak louder than words’.

Right they are.

Yet Joe Biden was not humbled. Joe Biden doesn’t know shame. Instead he gave a meandering speech invoking, yet again, his own tragedies, dosed as usual with a soupçon of exaggeration.

‘I don’t want to compare difficulties,’ he said. Spoiler alert: He compared difficulties.

Once upon a time, he and Jill had suffered a kitchen fire while he was off doing a glamorous TV spot on ‘Meet the Press’. He almost lost his classic Corvette! Parked at his waterfront house!

Would the people of Maui, living through the agonies of entire families burned to ashes in their homes, of a 14-year-old boy’s body discovered alone and clutching his dead dog, care to hear those details?

‘It was a sunny Sunday,’ Biden said — oh my God, is there no one in this White House who can keep this president on-message? — ‘and lightning struck at home on a little lake that’s outside of our home — not a lake, a big pond — and hit a wire and came up underneath our home into our heating ducts, the air conditioning ducts.

‘To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ’67 Corvette, and my cat. But all kidding aside’ — there’s a joke in here? — ‘I watched the firefighters, the way they responded… they ran into flames to save my wife and save my family… sometimes smoke is so thick… it was that thick inside the home.’

Not so, said the firefighters who responded. The Biden kitchen fire, according to the Cranston Heights Fire Company, was ‘insignificant’ and put out in just 20 minutes.

But hey — Joe Biden never lets facts get in the way of a good story. And no one’s suffering can ever compare to his own.

His speech to the people of Maui was disgusting. It was all about him. Note this line: 'I give you my word, as a Biden.'

As a Biden? How about as President of the United States?

He had such a low bar to clear: Get on the ground, shake hands and offer hugs, look survivors in the eye and listen to their stories, and offer a clear plan of action.

All he had to do was deliver a brief, locked-and-loaded speech and cede the stage to local heroes — take a page from George W. Bush’s promise on the World Trade Center pile after 9/11.

But he can’t do it. Joe Biden is fundamentally, constitutionally incapable of allowing others their grief. He literally claimed that he had ‘a similar experience’ to the Maui survivors.

‘By the way,’ he continued, ‘for 36 years I was listed as the poorest man in Congress, so I didn’t get there based on my income.’

Can you believe that was part of his speech to the survivors? How is it germane? Remotely relevant? Does Biden really want to invoke his family’s suspicious riches?

To quote Barack Obama: ‘Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f**k things up.’

Biden went on to perseverate over the loss of his first wife and infant daughter in a car crash — a tragedy he blamed on the other driver, who Biden infamously falsely accused of being drunk.

‘So, I have a little bit of sense of what it’s like.’

No, Mr. President, you do not.

It was the same when he met with Gold Star families whose loved ones died in his botched Afghanistan withdrawal, repeatedly invoking his late son Beau, who he often claims died in Iraq. (Beau died of a brain tumor.)

It was the same when he was caught checking his watch every single time one of those 13 flag-draped caskets were loaded off military planes at Dover.

‘The most disrespectful thing I’ve ever seen,’ said Darin Hoover, father of fallen Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover. ‘They would release the salute and he looked down at his watch on every last one. All 13, he looked down at his watch.’

So now I know: Joe Biden should have stayed away from Maui. He should have sent thoughts and prayers and far more than a $700 check to each surviving family. He should have begged Barack Obama or another esteemed Hawaiian to go.

The Rock would have done better. Jason Momoa. Hell, anyone but tone-deaf, crusty old Joe.

Looking at a canine rescue and recovery dog with protective paw gear, Biden ‘joked’ to the press: ‘You guys catch the boots out here? That’s some hot ground, man.’

Ugh, that ‘man’. Joe’s such a cool cat, don’t you know, just one of us. Amtrak Joe. Watch out: He might beat you up in the parking lot after fourth period. Remember ‘CornPop’? The gang leader with a razor blade at the community pool back in 1962? The 'bad dude' Joe Biden beat back with a 6ft-long chain?

Those canines, by the way, have only been able to work in short shifts because the ground in Lahaina remains sizzling hot. That’s cause for alarm, not a comedy bit.

How about that climate crisis, Mr. President?

Speaking of — please, for the love of all that is sacred, stay away from Palm Springs and Los Angeles and any future disaster areas in general. The American people don’t need to see their doddering, likely demented president wandering away from a podium, mouth slack and eyes vacant, needing to be guided, as we witnessed on Monday.

This sad showing is a microcosm of the Biden presidency: No one’s at the wheel. The whole world can see it. Is this who the Dems really want to prop up in 2024?

And where’s Jill Biden in all of this? Most wives would gently take their husband by the hand and say: ‘Time’s up. You did your best, but it’s time to leave.’

Most wives would want to protect what’s left of their husband’s dignity. Legacy.

Not so for the Bidens, now safely ensconced in an $18 million vacation home, out of sight.

President Joe Biden compounded his disastrous trip to Hawaii in the wake of devastating wildfires with yet another gaffe, blatantly ignoring a Democrat senator before gormlessly shuffling off at the end of an uninspiring speech yesterday.

The 80-year-old had a particularly awkward moment with Democratic Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz when, at the conclusion of a press conference, Schatz offered him a sip of water.

Biden completely blanked the senator and turned his back on him. He then began shuffling off, mouth hanging open and gazing listlessly into the crowd, while his wife Jill and Hawaii Governor Josh Green ushered him away from the lectern.

Furious Hawaiians had already greeted the President with ire, shouting 'f*** you' at his motorcade and brandishing signs telling him to go home as the 80-year-old and his wife toured the island of Maui 13 days after the inferno broke out.

The awkward scene came shortly after Biden had delivered a meandering, tone-deaf speech in which he compared the wildfires - which have killed at least 114 people and left 850 missing - to his experience of a small kitchen fire.

The President and his wife were not greeted warmly by residents of Hawaii yesterday.

As their motorcade drove through Maui, several people lined the streets waving Trump 2024 flags and shouting obscenities at the passing cars.

One person brandished a sign contrasting the money spent on Ukraine with the assistance sent to Hawaii - calculating that each Ukrainian has received over $1,700 since the war broke out in February 2022.

Meanwhile, the White House announced that each affected household in Hawaii will receive $700 - a sum many islanders considered insulting.

Locals' fury mounted on Sunday when Biden, who was asked about the fires as he relaxed on a Delaware beach, simply replied: 'No comment.' 🤡

And last week, he appeared to forget the name of Maui, repeatedly referring to fires blazing on 'the Big Island'.

Just small things I haven't seen mentioned yet. Oda's mostly making Shanks look scary, but he looks very good here:

AND I don't think that Oda actually knows how to draw kids in the 10-13 year old age range (looking at Law!) I mean, I know there are height differences and all, but the following

gesture (Bonney holding onto Jinbe's clothes in the way a younger child would hold onto a caretaker's clothes, both to steady themselves, and to make sure they don't get away) seems to be of a toddler to about six year old. It's still very sweet.

BUT, anyway, cruel, cruel, cruel. It makes me realise she's no longer with

her father, who seems to have some semblance of life? SO, is Bartholomew Kuma also missing, and if so, did he make the Sunny disappear (and himself in the process, and half the crew)? The ship is evident in the frame above, moored to the Giants' ship.

That was the second frame of Bonney with her father too. Of course, it doesn't seem he's much company, so she'd need to leave him on occasion, but it didn't seem that that occasion was at this point.

Then again, absinthe is a strong drink, and can

make drinkers hallucinate, as stated by the giant above. SO maybe everything (the Sunny being lost, etc.) is a hallucination (it would be a trip if Oda played an "It was all a dream card"). Because the sootiness of this first frame where someone (Luffy? Chopper?) is calling Nami, certainly is "waking from a dream"-like.

Is it only the "mature" quadruple, and (Bonney, and Lilith) left on the Giants' ship?

SO, whose hallucination is whose? It's not really about handling liquor, because both Nami and Zoro can, but maybe the others weren't drinking, or drinking as much. But they must have had some, otherwise they'd remember, so something else is at play.

Anyway, the sootiness of the first frame of the page above reminds me a lot of

the yami-yami no mi (taken from Lilith and Edison wondering where Law was in the anime: special segment at the end). The colouring from the manga and the anime will be different, but Oda does that sooty dotting for Teach's fruit.

Maybe the counter to the yami-yami no mi is dreams that can obliterate it / are stronger than it? That's not a theory, just noodling.

Also, Nami's outfit is kinda Nordic, viking, rustic, giant. Her hair plaits, too. I dunno. Maybe taken by the giants' arch-enemy? Or maybe they need to enter Elbaf separately under some kind of secret system, especially since the thwarted Kid Pirates attack?

Dunno. Anyway. Just thought I'd point out a few things that struck me. It's a great chapter. Go read it!

One Piece Chapter 1081 [Spoilers] Reminder-Law has cheated Death and Lost his home: Thrice!

I knew it was coming; I was hoping for a miracle. But this is the finale, we are going to lose more people! The stakes are high, our final contenders to One Piece are moving closer to their goal! But as Trafalgar Law fan, I was not ready to see him lose!

Paulo Coelho had warned me, Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time, yet I was not ready!

True, “The weak don’t get to choose how they die”! And Bepo made sure that Law didn’t get to die today. Bepo bet his life and went on to challenge Blackbeard! I respect him and again it set’s another example how each and every first mate has been loyal and that’s how they saved their captains! Zoro on Thriller Bark, Killer on Elbaf, and Bepo on Winner Island! A captain will survive when it’s crew will sacrifice itself!

Law will hate this; he has the captain’s burden to bare, pride of his crew on his shoulders and honour of the dead to carry! And yes, weak as he may be right now, he really didn’t get to choose his death. Trafalgar D Water Law will not die today, but for now he has been eliminated like Kid from the final race to One Piece.

Law lost his home! For the third time! His island and family are gone, Corazon and foster Doffy family is gone. His crew and ship was a family and home he built over 13 years! A ship which was a gift to him from a friend. He lost it all!

Losing a ship means you have been defeated and your spine cracked! What’s a pirate without a ship? After Merry Go and Thousand Sunny, Polar Tang was my favourite ship. I loved it for it’s cool design, utility, and absolutely fun colour. Law has a career ending blow, but he will survive.

Law will survive, he will be depressed again, he will hate himself again, but he will come back, he might not get the opportunity to avenge his crew the way he will want too! But he will survive, and he will get his answers to the questions he carries!

There is a purpose he has to serve, and my fears for his future is worse. That devil fruit he carries; it definitely offers something more than eternal youth. If it can cure an incurable disease like Amber Lead Syndrome, that means it can cure other things too. And a certain someone has already lost twenty years to a drug when he tried to save his brother.

I just can’t help but notice how Law has cheated Death thrice! If Law was a cat; he would have six more lives to spend! And out of which their is a high possibility the last life might get spent on saving the only D that matters in this universe. But for now that’s a thought I hope doesn’t come to fruition!

Why am I so sympathetic to Law but not Kid?

I think why my reaction to Kid getting pulverised and Law getting butchered are so different, is because it’s very simple!

Rule of familiarity.

We have known Shanks since day one of One Piece! Shanks has always been the reliable guy and Kid was introduced to us as being reckless killer. Blackbeard too has been the bad guy since his introduction while we as readers have spent a decade with Law!

I am more invested in Law! I have seen his struggles, ups and downs and what he is capable off!

With Kid it has always been a distanced and tinted pov. Shakky introduced him to Strawhat as a worst generation who killed people to have higher bounty than Luffy. Then when three of them met, Kid picked fight with Law and Lu!

It was fun watching Kid get beaten up by Shanks! But obviously with Law it was different emotions; because we know him better!

Let it be a reminder!

Defeating Blackbeard and Shanks is not going to be easy! Kaido was the trial round for Luffy, and it took him 5 battles! And the biggest issue with Luffy’s future opponents Blackboard and Shanks is not the difference of power but the difference of planning. Luffy though he has matured a bit; is still a punch first talk later boy. As for Blackbeard and Shanks, they have been playing chess of survival for all these years!

Kaido, Big Mom, Doffy, or anyone Luffy has fought previously has always underestimated him; until Charlotte Katkuri! Luffy is an Emperor of the Sea! Neither Blackbeard or Shanks will give him the half-hearted treatment of toying with a rookie!

Yes Lu is a God, but still a rookie! And next two opponents are people who don’t always rely on strength but brains all the time! They both have planned and plotted to reach this far! It will not be easy!

I think chapter 1081 establishes the final journey to One Piece for Luffy has begun.

BRUHHH!!! I was sitting there in SHOCK because!!! !!

She left son in a house that she thought had no electricity, barely any food and didn't go check on him when he wasn't answering her calls!!!

She would rather go to some stupid fuckin furniture sale instead of checking on her child who she is FULLY aware hasn't left the house in 4 friggin years!!!! hasn't been going to school!!!! hasn't been talking to his friends!!!

SHE EVEN SAYS HERSELF THAT KEL HAS BEEN COMING AROUND DAMN NEAR EVERY DAY AND SUNNY HASN'T BEEN RESPONDING, NOT ASNWERING THE DOOR, SHOWING NO SIGNS OF LIFE WITHIN THAT HOUSE!!!

Don't even get me started on Basil and Sunny framing Mari's death as a suicide. Theres no fucking way that two little boys who were 12 and 13 at the time were framing a perfect suicide, there is simply no way.

Mari fell down the stairs, landed on a violin and perished (both WOODEN, mind you. There must've been bruises and cuts on her body SO BAD that it probably looked like she had gotten into a fight!! Not to mention broken bones in her body that would make no sense in a suicide, too.

My point being that when the parents came home, they HAD TO KNOW that something was DEFINETLY wrong!!

What solidifies this even more for me is that at some point, Sunny's dad says that he's not his son during one of his memory/dream sequences as he's chopping down the tree Sunny and Basil hung Mari from.

#5. At what stage in their life were they the happiest?

Truthfully, Silva didn't start to truly be happy until she was an adult.

Her childhood was spent with an abusive mother and an absentee father.

At 13 she was chosen as the Bride, aka sacrifice, to Volga. So much of her time after that was spent being trained into what the village elders believed the perfect wife should be like. She was able to keep her two best friends close at least, but she wouldn't say she was really happy during that time in her life.

After she turned 20 the next January she was sent to begin her life as Volga's Bride.

Despite a rough start, for obvious reasons, Silva managed to bond with Volga and his tribe over time, becoming a beloved sister and caretaker in the Nursery. A romance bloomed between her and Volga as well.

She finally found her place, you could say.

#6. At what stage of their life were they the least happy?

Without a doubt her entire childhood. She had happy moments, that can't be denied, but when she looks back it's mostly negative.

From her first memories her mother has expressed nothing less than hatred for her, but Silva has never been able to figure out why.

Her mother is heavily abusive, leaving her with multiple severe injuries, including broken bones, burns, and nearly blinding her in her left eye.

If not for her incredibly powerful inate healing ability she would have lost her eye and likely be covered in scars.

Her father is a traveling merchant, and is only home during the coldest months. As soon as spring hits, he's gone again. The best Silva can say is that her memories of, and feelings toward, him are neutral, and that at least his presence kept her mother from being able to beat her, as he wouldn't stand for it.

The day she learned she'd been chosen, that her life from then on was owned by a man she'd never met and who likely had no idea any of this was even happening, was spent numb and in a state of disassociation.

That night, around midnight, she crept into the kitchen and grabbed a sharp knife, intending to take her own life.

She was prevented from doing so by the sudden appearance of a strange, ethereal woman. She appeared without a sound, emanating comfort and kindness.

She talked Silva down from taking her life, but had also reassured her that if she truly couldn't continue she would see to it that her soul went to a peaceful place.

(anything more on her is spoilers, but as I'm having difficulty continuing my long fic, I may end it where it is and continue in a different format)

Silva decided not to end her life, but the next seven years she considers the worst years of her life.

Summary: Even after the War of the Ring, the battle is not complete. Wulfwryn still joins her guard charges to raid roving orc parties. Raenor sees the toll it takes on her, and worries about a day where she doesn't come home. When he mistakenly vents his frustrations to Aragorn, he shares some wisdom about old habits of war dying hard.

Watching his lovely wife play pretend in the sunny courtyard on an autumn day should have brought Raenor nothing but idyllic peace and joy. 

Wulfwryn ‘chasing’ both Faewryn and Eldarion around, slowing her pace to make their toddling legs feel fast as light, should have made him smile and laugh with deep-chested delight. 

Instead, he half-heartedly fussed with both his own instrument and the little version he’d had constructed for Faewryn, preparing them both for the lesson he promised he’d give her later. His focus truly was on Wulfwryn, catching the subtle catches in her movement and the way that she would dart behind one of the white stone columns to take a wincing breath and squeeze her eyes closed. 

He knew the bruises that colored her skin beneath the simple tunic she wore, he knew the aches and pains wracking her body from the most recent band of orcs set on besieging the White City. His own hand had rebandaged her cuts last night, made a poultice and a tea for her this morning to mitigate the pain so she could do the very thing she did right now. 

“Something troubles you today, mellon-nin.” Raenor pressed his lips together as Aragorn settled beside Raenor, freed from the clutches of his advisors and delegates that wished to commandeer all his time. 

Raenor cut his eyes away from Wulfwryn to glance at Aragorn, smoothing both his expression and voice to an attempt at neutrality. 

“This most recent excursion took a toll on Wulfwryn.” 

They both observed her for a moment, just to catch a cry remedied into a noise of indignant loss as both Eldarion and Faewryn leapt upon her. She’d smoothed over her reaction before either child could notice and redirected them onto a different game. 

She made her way to one of the columns, leaning back against it. Raenor could tell even from this distance that she held herself stiffly, in the manner of one worried about tweaking the wrong thing with an off movement. 

He gave a grumbling huff, unable to keep a clipped edge from entering his voice, “It has been becoming more frequent.” 

Aragorn hummed in acknowledgement. 

“They have become more insistent the more their strength wanes.” he agreed before a pause. “You know that these are patrols that she herself makes and volunteers for.”

Raenor’s expression darkened. He was well aware. Words had passed between him and Wulfwryn when Faewryn was just a wee little thing, when the attacks had been at their worst. For a while, the attacks had abated and the standing issue along with it. With the recent increase, the same beast raised its head. 

“That is not the point,” he said. “You are her king, her commander, you know she would do anything to fulfill her duty.” 

Even if it meant wringing herself of everything; of comfort, of energy. 

“I am, yet I do not endorse her doing what she does.” Aragorn leaned forward, steepling his hands under his chin. “You cannot think I want to see a child without her mother?” 

Raenor flinched as if struck, such a simple statement striking an electrically raw nerve. 

“Goheno nin,” he murmured, casting his eyes to the cobblestones beneath his feet. “I know that you are not the sort to treat your people like fodder.” 

“The war is still fresh.” Aragorn said, looking to their children as they ran around the courtyard brandishing wooden swords. “These roving orc bands bring that fact to the forefront of their mind. Though I don’t know for certain, I think she is trying to provide safety for Faewryn in the only way she knows how.” 

Yet, what if that very attempt to provide safety stripped Faewryn of her mother altogether? What if the pursuit of one of these bands meant Wulfwryn never coming home? 

Raenor sat with such heavy questions, rolling them around in his mind. He considered the centuries he’d lived in a world that only knew peace, the world that had taught him of children that could run through their childhoods without burden. He thought then of the children in Langhold, all those years ago, playing pretend not for some battle mythos long past, but for a war that was on their doorstep. 

“It takes time to unlearn war.” Aragorn continued, though it did not seem to Raenor like he was being addressed directly. “It will take us all a long while to handle all of what we’ve been dealt.”

Spoilers for The Dragonet Prophecy

I've decided to get into Wings of Fire, starting with a graphic novel version of the first book that I found at Barnes & Noble.

I just finished reading it, and I've also decided to catalog all of the thoughts I have about each book right after I read them. I'm gonna do it all in this post, one reblog at a time.

Here we go.

The Dragonet Prophecy:

I really like Clay's flat arc. The fact that, in the first book, the first thing we learn about him and the last thing we learn about him is the same piece of information twice, just framed under a different context will drive me insane for the rest of my life.

Seriously, there are 13 fucking books left for me to read, I cannot be getting so hung up over a single detail in book number one(1).

I wanted to see Tsunami beat up more dragons, but alas. From what I can glean, the second book will focus more on her. So maybe I'll get my wish after all.

Welp. Starflight's a double agent now. And I get the feeling that they're going to get a lot of mileage out of that when it comes to internal conflict. It's a pity that I didn't find him too interesting in this one, but I'll just have to assume they're saving all of that for a bit later in the series. We're still only in the world-building phase, after all.

Sunny's cute. Wish she was given more time to shine.

Same with Glory. But at least she got to kill someone.

It really seems like they were banking on the hopes that they would be able to publish a lot of books and would have plenty of time to flesh out the five dragonets later. Fortunately, like I said, there are 13 books left. And that's just the main series.

Hoping to see everyone get plenty of chances to shine. (Please please please tell me that they do. Please don't let this age poorly.)

The only name I knew going into this was Scarlet, who I've heard is just an absolute monster throughout the series. Excited to see how much more they can make me hate her.

Jesus fucking Christ that dude just fucking killed himself by hugging Peril. That shit was brutal.

Anyway, I really like Peril. Once again, wanted to see a lot more of her.

I also like the obvious parallels already being drawn between Peril and Clay. They were both introduced as having killed/tried to kill their sibling when they hatched. And then within the same book, both of those things were proven to be untrue.

It's pretty obvious they're setting up a ship between them, but it's a damn cute ship, so that's fine by me.

I really really like that the four of them keep consistently reminding Glory that they think she's pretty, as well as constantly reassuring her that they don't think she's lazy or stupid. Love me some siblings being collectively supportive of their extremely self-deprecating sister. I think she's shaping up to be my favorite of the five. With Tsunami being a close second. Make no mistake: I love them all.

Also, Tsunami coming from the Seawing Queen's hatchery is the funniest shit ever. She spends the whole book making jokes like "Maybe I'm the lost Seawing Princess or something Xp" and then right at the end Kestrel's just like "Yeah, no, you totally are." AND THEN SHE JUST FUCKING LEAVES

"Definitely our bigwings." Aww~ What a cute way to close off the first book :)

Anyway, great book. Can't wait to get my hands on the second one.

All of the following items have been brought to The Overseer staff’s office for safekeeping until they are claimed. Item 1: A pair of old red sneakers This pair of shoes has worn laces and holes throughout both shoes. They were found hanging by the shoelaces near Impulse’s dwarven keep and were found covered in dirt and Redstone.

Item 2: A wreath made of withered roses This wreath was found discarded near Gem’s elven village. The roses are impeccably arranged in the form of a wreath to hang on one’s front door. A price tag was attached to it reading, “3 diamonds.”

Item 3: A photograph of a new structure built on another server This structure is a brown and pink wooden house built right next to a curved cherry tree with several glow berries hanging from it. Surrounding the house is a gardening area consisting of a wheat farm and glowberry section. [This structure was created and posted by Unknowntoast.]

Item 4: A photograph of the evening sky This photograph features orange, pink, yellow, and red shaded clouds serving as the backdrop to an unknown city street with large buildings, perhaps taken to inspire a sense of wanderlust. [This photograph was taken and posted by Z.]

Item 5: A sculpture of a glare This clay sculpture of a glare stands at approximately 6 inches tall and 6 inches wide with a spherical shape. It was found near Bdubs’ monolith and glows in the dark.
