Fitzier kiss out of spite

The flow of angry words coming out of James' mouth is cut off abruptly as Crozier kisses him. It's nothing to write home about, downright chaste, just the dry press of his chapped lips against James', but it cuts off James' train of thought as effectively as if he'd been shot. His heart stutters and then gallops, and he heaves a breath in as he stares, wide-eyed, at the man who is backing away from him with a triumphant expression on his face.

Crozier's teeth are bared, his fists clenched at his sides. His very posture radiates irritation, and the surprise James had felt at his touch goes sour in his stomach as he wonders if Crozier had kissed him to make him stop talking and the horrible realization hits him that he has been found out, somehow, that Crozier knows. Even if he'd merely suspected before, he knows now, he must do, because James could not stop himself in the moment from going soft and vulnerable at his kiss and Crozier is watching him now like he's been proven right. James can't even remember what they'd been arguing about but he knows he has lost.

Send me a (Terror) ship and a number and I will write a kiss.

it wasn't about what was happening. It was about what he felt was happening...after 20 years of numbing and deflecting he couldn't feel attached to anything. And THAT'S what he needed to get back: meaning behind the actions...I'm glad he found it again at the end.

the punching the wall thing... is like devastating if you think about it because in the "best night of his life" he was so angry for whatever reason he punched a wall. and that was The Good Night....

EXACTLY!!! Gary narrates the first punch with "there was drama," like it's one of the cool parts of the night. But. He was clearly not having a good time right then. As you said, that was his "best night." Having to leave your friends for a moment to have a meltdown...one so bad that you punch something & hurt your hand....that's!! unpleasant enough!! So what the hell were his BAD times like???

It kind of reminds me of this exchange just before the Punch Mode Renaissance:

Steven: Don't do a Gary, Gary. Gary: Oh, that's a thing now, is it? Oliver: It's always been a thing.

LIKE!! AGH. Gary's pain and his unhealthy ways of dealing with it,,, it's so PERVASIVE. It's always there! Damaging his relationships, hurting his friends, hurting him. Of course he's still responsible for his actions, I ain't makin' no foolish statements over here...nonetheless. It's clear that there's this big mess of emotion inside Gary that he has no idea how to properly deal with.

It's heartbreaking that All This invades Gary's life so much that he can't recount one happy night without bringing it up. He glosses over it when he's with other people, but imo, this is one of the moments that proves Gary knows he's always felt something bringing him down.

OKAY SO. This is something that @sunlaire and I kind of cowrote/brainstormed over dm's, so they've got shared custody of this one.

It's basically a Game of Thrones AU where James is a famous tournament knight from the South with absolutely zero practical battle experience, while Francis is a hardened Lord from the North with a long string of hard-fought victories and a chip on his shoulder.

They hate each other on sight, but end up fleeing North to Crozier's hold together after an assassination attempt on both their lives.

We've got like 7,000 words of notes, there's a LOT more, we'll see if/how we ever decide to flesh it out and post it!

Ooh good question, yeah. Honestly there's a lot because my parents were big concertgoers when they were younger and we took a lot of family roadtrips so some of my earliest memories are hearing music in the car.
