I hate doing ‘em
though that might just be because I always do them at the bottom of the paper, making drawing legs a pain.

Short Story Tournament - S2
TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT TWO-TONGUED JEREMY by Theodore McCombs (2018) (link) - tw: child abuse, manipulation, suicide, homophobia, revenge porn
His name was Two-Tongued Jeremy; he was a monitor lizard with a forked tongue, thick glasses, and a wild, wagging smile meant to convince children that learning could be fun, too. He came highly rated. He updated automatically. There were no red flags. There was no warning.
MORRIGAN IN THE SUNGLARE by Seth Dickinson (2014) (link) - tw: war, death
Like weaponized poetry, except that deep down your poem always says "we have to live. They have to die."

He wrote a beautiful drabble of our Supermassive black hole/Supernova pairing 😭🖤
A Cosmological Dance.
For there was once a Black Hole, where light was not welcome and all that was caught in it's pull was engulfed and destroyed. But one day, a small star dared to wander too close. But as the Black Hole began to pull upon it, this little star dared to flare up in luminosity upon finding itself in it's hold. However, whereas every other thing would be pulled in and devoured the Black Hole found it could not do so to this little star, could not devour the light in which it shone.
And so the star audaciously chose to stay. Dared to settle and begin an orbit around it, teetering on the very edge of the event horizon. But the Black Hole found could not devour, nor did it want to devour. The orbit being a declaration that it shouldn't work but it does, a weird anomaly in the cosmos. The Black Hole would destroy all manner of threats that came close, asteroids, rogue stars and planets and even other black holes that ventured too close, their greed for matter and light driving them into its maw.
And so the little star and sun flourished under the shadow of it's protector. For life, splendid and vibrant, erupted upon the bodies upon which orbited it.
But there came a day when finally, after so many years of harmony and dance came the day in where its light began to fade until an explosion engulfed the little star, a supernova, bathing the Black Hole one final time with its light, a final caress in an ocean of darkness.
Without its Star the Black Hole begins to evaporate, radiation seeping away from it, for it could not exist any longer, for its little star was gone. Fading away before exploding with radiant light, a final tribute to the little star to whom it grew to love. All that remained of them, a nebulae.
A day, billions of years from that day, a species on a Blue Planet, billions of light years away laid eyes upon it and as the sentimental species as they were, named it the WolfRaven Nebulae.
And there they would exist forevermore.
Until the day of proton decay where everything evaporates to nothing. The WolfRaven Nebulae is one of the last to go.
Their story lasting an unimaginable cosmological age.

Hello, I was wondering if sled dogs (or, well, any dog that lives in an area where snowblindness would be a risk) ever suffer from snow blindness?
If not, what features prevent them from getting snowblindness.
If yes, what do you do to prevent snow blindness?
Dogs can get snowblindness just like people and it is often suggested dogs wear goggles (such as Rex Specs) to prevent it. Ernest Shackleton, an antarctic explorer of the early 1900s believed the dogs he used for his expedition got snowblindness.
For my dogs I don't do anything, nor do most people running sled dogs. It is not common in dogs and I personally believe that several factors are at play here.
First, with sled dog breeds they have arctic adaptions, otherwise they would not exist or work to optimum performance and would have been culled or spayed/neutered. Many indigenous northern dog breeds develop a fatty pad around the eye (and other areas of the face) which can help shield the eye from sun, reflections, and weather. Many wild arctic mammals have this adaption as well. Additionally, a majority of dogs have very pigmented irises, which help in this department, and could be a good reason why many indigenous arctic breeds are not allowed to have blue eyes in their standards. Usually with these dogs the darker the eye the better.
Secondly, working sled dogs are kept outside so they can best acclimate to the weather. Dogs that are outdoors very often are more likely to adapt overall and this includes using their other senses to overcome lack of sight. I've seen blind sled dogs run, I've seen three legged sled dogs run. A good sled dog is resilient to the outdoors, to weather, etc.
Thirdly, dogs, unlike humans often have facial markings. Much in the way football players put black under their eyes to help prevent sunglare, the markings of a dog are likely to have a similar effect. All white dogs (like mine!) certainly exist, but a dog with pure white hair is not = to a human being with a single skin tone. Dogs have a darker pigmented skin tone under their white hair (usually black or brown with black pigment being more desirable in sled dog breeds when they are a solid color).
And lastly, a big reason I don't do anything for my dogs about sunblindness is that the region i live in is simply not sunny enough to warrant that. We get very little sunlight in the winter period. A lot of places where dog sledding is most common are also quite cloudy (Anchorage, AK is usually considered the #1 cloudiest city in America) and a huge majority of areas bordering Canada (such as where I live) also tend to fall into these cloudy categories.

July Prompt: Watermelon Pairing: Nestaq (Nesryn x Sartaq)
a/n: idk. just wanted to write them. took an embarrassing amount of time to spit this out.
warnings: none, except being very poorly edited, 556 words
.*.*.*.*.
Watermelon
“What are you doing?”
Nesryn did her best to hide her flinch as she looked up with as much innocence as she could muster.  Standing next to her in the dwindling line of the picnic line-up, Sartaq didn’t even bother hiding his amusement.
The sun beat down overhead at just the right angle to where he remained in shadow and she was left to the sunglare.  The mid-July heat left the entire party desperate for refreshment, but the Whitethorn-Galathynius household always knew how to throw a party.  There were lounge chairs beside the pool and shade umbrellas already in place.  Mostly everyone else had gone through the line which made Nesryn feel all the more confident in her food choices.  At least she would have if Sartaq could learn to keep his trap shut.
She squared her shoulders and fixed him with as dignified a glare as she could. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She even planted a hand on her hip for emphasis.
“Do you really need all that watermelon?”  He pressed.
Nesryn forces herself not to look down.  Because she knew just how loaded that plate was with all that watermelon.
“I like watermelon,” she said.  Which was true. “A lot.”
Sartaq’s grin broadened. “Sure.”
“And it’s hot,” she added.
“Okay.”
“No one else took any one their trip through, their loss.”
Alright, so maybe that wasn’t the best etiquette in picnic-barbeque goings on.  But she really was more of a if you snooze you lose mentality type person.
What she didn’t like though was Sartaq teasing her.  Not with his stupid grin or that gleam in his eyes.  Didn’t help that he was shirtless having just got out of the pool half an hour ago.  Did he really have to be as attractive as he was?
Eye’s up Faliq, she told herself.
“Right,” Sartaq murmured, obviously not buying anything she was saying.  And, most unfortunately, noticing the way she was ogling him.  That smile of his ticked just a little higher.
“There’s plenty of watermelon left,” she continued.
She didn’t know what it was about Sartaq that made her heart rate pick up and her breath hitch.  They’d known each other for two years now after a messed up series of awkward experiences (her fault) and accidental strip tease post thunderstorm last November (her fault too).  Despite her faux paus and many, many, mistakes, he still hadn’t written her off.  Which she supposed was good.  Or even more awkward.  Hell he probably pitied her.  She pitied her.
Sartaq reached out and plucked a piece of watermelon from her plate before he headed back to the seating area where most of their friends had taken up.
Nesryn watched him go, not checking him out, and grabbed a napkin from the pile.  It wasn’t her fault she preferred watermelon and there really was plenty.  She’d have a dozen watermelons delivered to his house, see what he thought about that.
“Why are you checking out Sartag?”
Nesryn nearly dropped her plate as her friend, Yrene, stepped up beside her.  She wore a yellow sundress, her thick curls spiraling down her back.  She looked absolutely stunning even at eight and a half months pregnant.
“I’m not checking out Sartaq.” Lie.
Yrene only raised a single brow before grabbing her own plate of food.
“Mmm-hmm.”
Hell.

ALYXCAT'S PAWSOME PLAYLIST - MY FAVORITE PARTS OF MY OWN ALBUM
youtube
I WANNA…i love the stereo space in this track. it just feels so wide to me and im being hugged by my guitars. im just so proud of myself to making this so quickly as proof of concept that i could make something really good if i just chose to have fun.
ANYTHING….the first and last verse of the song was written by my girlfriend. she wrote a song for our first anniversary that turned me into a SOPPING WET CRYING MESS and i had to reference it in some way. i ended up making this song for this years anniversary with a bunch of cute art i doodled with the lyrics on it…she cried and i was so glad.
TRACK THREE. this one encapsulates what writing this album felt like to me. everything was in perfect alignment. i feel like i really cracked the code. like i finally crossed (krossed haha) a hurdle that i'd been stuck on for many years of my life. its so corny and full of things i love about the songs i love, but thats the point. this is the song that taught me to embrace the rough and scrappy drafts and ideas and throw my feelings of inadequacy to the side. Polyana's verse really cemented this for me too because she just freestyles at the end and it just felt right to keep it in. TLDR: this song taught me to trust my gut. i love it so much.
HEADSPACE. i wrote this song after having a "regular" conversation with someone in my family and i was realizing i was dissociating as a defense mechanism whenever a specific sort of interaction would occur. i've always wanted to write a song that gets really intense and is really grand, rough, and intense, and this song really did it for me. its the first time i really appreciate my singing and screaming voice in its natural range, so im glad it was the first one on the album to feature it.
RECHARGED. i wrote this on a bad day but originally as a joke to make myself feel better. the starting sample is actually a stupid deku meme put through many layers of botanica ass sound design to hide it. i got a bunch of funny reactions from my friends after showing them. i actually did feel pretty refreshed after making this. enough to keep moving forward for the day <3
HOLD ME (sunglare from the sun). aside from the weird title shit thats going on with this track, this song is about a conversation i had with myself. my weeks kept feeling like moments of drowning mixed with the most euphoric times of my life on repeat. as much as i wanted to give up on everything i held dear to me, some part of me couldn't let go and encouraged me to keep going. despite all my self-sabotage, a part of me still had some fight left. the way that this song progresses is something that i never thought i could ever accomplish, and im glad that fighting side of me won because i would have never made this song without it.
CANT LET YOU KNOW. the person that this song is about changed my life. i know that the chorus and all that sounds like they sucked, but really i can't help but hope they're doing okay. though i may be afraid to tell them to their face, i hope they find this song and know that im glad they were apart of my life. i just love how corny this song is and I LOVE POLYANA'S VOICE SO MUCH. okay anwya yeah I ALSO LOVE THIS FUCKINNN OUTRO ITS SOOOO PRETTY TO MEEA AAA
SENTIMENTAL ALIBI. kros… FUCKING. KROS. THIS GUY IS MY FUCKING GOAT. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. THIS SONG WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE ALBUM!!! i made a little sketch one day and sent it to him just to hear his thoughts and HE CAME BACK WITH A WHOLE VERSE THAT MATCHED THE VIBES PERFECTLY WITHOUT ANY CONTEXT! and it ended up becoming the WHOLE SONG and one of the biggest projects i've ever worked on. for this entire album being the first times i've ever started working with people, im SO GLAD that my first experiences have results like this. these people have become such important pillars of my life and im so glad we were not only able to communicate that into a song together and work so well together doing it. my fav part of this song is the final climax…this is the first time i really sang my heart out on a chorus,,,,,and I LOVE HOW IT SOUNDS!!! THAT USUALLY NEVER HAPPENS!!!
TAKE A STEP. this song pushed me with the sound design a little and im really happy about it. when i hear this song i always feel a bit of me choosing to be a little hater and cringe at the conry ass message i have in this, but strangely i feel such comfort knowing i can look at those feelings, accept them, and move on despite them. i may think its stupid, corny, cringe, whatever. but i'll keep following those feelings because they have only led me to create this entire project. i will keep taking a step towards the realest parts of me no matter how fucking stupid i sound because its the only way to grow. im really glad this is the last song on the album for this reason.
the entire album means so much to me because this (and hopefully future projects too) will continue to serve as reminders of the lessons, memories, and joy i experienced when creating this project. dare i say, i would need a Sentimental Alibi to free myself from the nostalgia of this project.
i really hope these messages resonated with you <3 thank you so much for reading.
love you, stay safe.
