The Grand Buffet is Finally Back at Grand Hyatt Manila
Tumblr media
After four long years, The Grand Buffet is finally back at Grand Hyatt Manila! I have been waiting for them to bring back their full buffet setup for lunch and dinner ever since they had to stop it during the pandemic. While they already reopened their all-day dining cafe for buffet breakfast, they only offered an a la carte and a semi-buffet menu for lunch and dinner in the previous years. Now, I'm happy to once again be able to go around their expansive buffet and dining areas to try all these signature specialties.
Tumblr media
Indulge in an endless journey of flavors as The Grand Kitchen reopens its buffet service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Hungry Kat was invited for a grand media launch last February 15, 2024 at The Grand Kitchen which you can find on the second floor, right after you go up the lobby's escalators. Our family loves staying at Grand Hyatt Manila during the holidays, so we've tried their buffet breakfast several times already, but I'm really excited to be here to try their newly reopened lunch buffet.
Tumblr media
The Grand Buffet is available daily for lunch from 12:00nn to 2:30pm at only P1888 nett per person. This is one of the best value-for-money rates you can find in a five-star luxury hotel in the city. The dinner buffet is also offered daily from 6:00pm to 10:00pm for P2888 nett person while breakfast buffet is at P1655 nett. They also have a special Grand Sunday Brunch for P3400 nett per person.
Tumblr media
The elegant and colorful interiors inside the Grand Kitchen provide a charming space that feels much like home. It doesn’t look like your typical busy restaurant at all, with its dark wooden hues and spacious surroundings. Guests can choose to sit at the long tables or at the more comfortable sofas and chairs.
Tumblr media
We actually like this dining area near the glass windows where you have a charming view of their gorgeous lobby lounge and the lobby itself just below.
Tumblr media
Nine chefs present their culinary mastery through key signature dishes spread out among different international stations at The Grand Kitchen. Guests can get a global gastronomic experience featuring a delightful array of Thai specialties, succulent meats from the grill, beloved Balinese and Chinese classics, authentic Japanese sushi, tempting Korean street food, and much more.
Tumblr media
Let's begin our journey at the Salad Station. Here you can create your own bowl of greens for a healthy start to your trip. You can also ask them to prepare a Caesar Salad for you, or the Som Tam Salad which is a Thai green papaya salad. There's also a selection of hams and cheeses including gouda, brie, manchego, emmen.
Tumblr media
Just nearby is the Bread Station serving Focaccia, baguette, sourdough, rye, and other freshly-baked breads.
Tumblr media
You can also get some pasta dishes like the Baked Mac & Cheese, penne with mushroom cream, beef lasagna, or. spaghetti with tomato sauce.
Tumblr media
I really love Japanese cuisine, so I headed to the Japanese Station offering lovely sushi and sashimi. I got myself a plate of salmon and tuna sashimi together with a few pieces of Aburi Sushi.
Tumblr media
The Tempura Moriawase was also my immediate target so I got myself a few pieces of these crunchy shrimp tempura.
Tumblr media
Now let's explore another country and head over to China. The Chinese Station presents these lovely roastings hanging on the glass window.
Tumblr media
Guests can ask for slices of Char Siu Pork, Hainanese Chicken, and Roasted Duck all in one plate. Combine these with your choice of chilis and sauces.
Tumblr media
You can also find some Taiwanese Pork Belly Buns and Mapo Tofu here. Other dishes you can try include salt and pepper pork, wok fried beef, and beef ho fan noodles.
Tumblr media
Next up is the Korean Section which comes with this colorful Korean Fried Chicken, Pork Galbi, Korean Spicy Beef and even French Fries.
Tumblr media
There's even a selection of Kimchi for those who love eating this spicy Korean side dish. I've never seen these many kinds of kimchi before so it's really a specialty here at The Grand Kitchen.
Tumblr media
Those who really like Asian food will definitely enjoy a trip to the Thai Station. Start with some Tom Yum Soup which you can customize with condiments and your preferred spice level.
Tumblr media
Other Thai specialties include the Thai Spring Rolls, Khao Pad, and Kaeng Phet which is a thick red curry that would go so well with rice.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I'm went ahead and got a small dessert because I really love the Mango Sticky Rice. This is what I always look for when I go to Thailand and I also like this version at The Grand Buffet.
Tumblr media
Don't worry if you prefer something more familiar, because they also have a dedicated station offering Filipino favorites like the Pork Adobo, Beef Kaldereta, Laing, Fried Chicken, and even Garlic Rice.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Over at the carving station, you can ask for as many slices of this Beef Brisket in Barbecue Sauce as you want. The beef was really smoky and tender.
Tumblr media
If all those station are still not enough, head over to the Mongolian Barbecue and Grill Station where the chefs will cook your choice of meats and seafood on the grill.
Tumblr media
Choose your own ingredients to include inside your Mongolian Barbecue and they will prepare it for you.
Tumblr media
Better yet, ask them to grill your meats and seafood on the spot. Choose from among Pork Liempo, Chicken Inasal, Beer Marinated Beef, Mussels, Baby Squid, and Baby Octopus. There's also a Robata to Order where you can get Chicken Satay, Beef Satay, or Bacon Wrapped Moki.
Tumblr media
Both the lunch and dinner buffets come with free-flowing brewed coffee and tea, but you can add a few more refreshing drinks from their a la carte beverage menu. I had a refreshing Classic Homemade Iced Tea but you can also order fruit juices and even sparkling wine.
Tumblr media
For desserts, head over to the Dessert Station where you can choose from a variety of sweet treats. There's Mango Sago, Creme Brulee Pudding, Panna Cotta, Chocolate Brownies, Strawberry Shortcake, Tiramisu, Cheesecake, and Apple Crumble. You can also get a serving of Chocolate or Vanilla Sundae topped with sprinkles, gummy worms, and raspberry sauce.
Tumblr media
We would like to thank Grand Hyatt Manila Director for Sales and Marketing Eugene Tamesis and Director for Marketing and Communications Inah Manalaysay for inviting us to the grand launch of The Grand Buffet. This is the return that we had been waiting for and this will surely make our next stays at Grand Hyatt Manila even more enjoyable. Book your tables now!

“SPRING ADDS NEW LIFE & NEW JOY TO ALL THAT IS.”
Come one, come all for Providence Peak’s Annual Spring Eggstravaganza! There is a mountain of daily activities offered alongside a truly fanstastical downtown festival that will line the streets with vendors selling local and holiday wares, shops decorated to the max with fresh spring blooms for you to enjoy, crafts and activities for the little ones to enjoy, and legend has it Farmer Frederick will be returning with his family-friendly petting zoo, introducing the most recent additions to his farm. As the winter snow finally melts away from the city, allow yourself to relax and welcome spring and all it has to offer.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
All Week (March 27th - April 3rd) - The downtown Eggstravaganza will begin on Saturday and run all week long. This portion of the event fills the downtown area of Providence Peak with vendors selling local goods and foods, stalls offering free merch, activities for the children, and even a petting zoo! You can find the full list of vendors HERE.
Saturday (March 27th) - Prepare yourself for The Jagged Yard’s monthly Coyote Ugly Night! While it’s not officially part of the city’s spring festival, it might as well be, and since the night coincides with the beginning of the spring season in Providence Peak, the bar is doing it up big and offering a special spring-themed cocktail called Spring Fling, with more liquor than you can actually name for half-price! And if you can name every ingredient used in it, your bill will be comped on the house!
Sunday (March 28th) - While you’re sleeping off that inevitable weekend hangover, mosey on over to Farm to Fork where they’ll be offering a farm-fresh brunch buffet and lavender and pear bottomless mimosa options.
Monday (March 29th) - Hopefully you’re not too tired from the busy weekend, because as the festival carries on downtown, Take It Outdoors is hosting a boat and kayak race across Summit Lake. Feel free to bring your own equipment or they’ll have more than enough for participants to rent during the event. And what’s the prize for crawling out of bed and standing outside under the sun all day only to row across the largest lake in Providence Peak? Well, a brand new tandem kayak, complete with paddles and life vests, of course!
Tuesday(March 30th) - Feeling like you need a break yet? Well, if you don’t have kids or canines, now is the perfect time to do it. Sleep in and enjoy the downtown vendors while parents of gremlins and furry friends alike enjoy a dog egg hunt at The Open Range sponsored by Good Pets. Prizes include gift certificates to shop for all of your pet’s needs and lots of yummy treats for man’s best friend as well. Following the dog egg hunt will be the children’s egg hunt, sponsored by The Sweet Spot, and will shower the kids of Providence with tons of sweets and trinkets that will surely keep them running around for the rest of the evening.
Wednesday (March 31st) - If you’re feeling like your life needs an impulsive decision, A Touch of Ink will be offering a $50 flash sheet of easter and spring themed tattoos. Want to add a flower to the canvas that is your body? How about a bunny? Maybe a traditional butterfly on your hip will do the trick? Regardless of what you choose, make sure to be there early! This event is walk-ins only and the lines can get long, so who knows who you’ll be stuck standing there with?
Thursday (April 1st) - Don’t worry, this is no April Fool’s, it’s the day most adults wait all year for: the annual Providence Peak adult egg hunt, because why should the kids be the only ones to have fun? Throughout the day, adults will be able to search for eggs throughout the shops around town for special sales, gift cards, and the grand prizes from each location. Remember, only one egg is allowed per adult per shop and don’t forget to register with Mayor Harris at town hall’s downtown festival tent!
Friday (April 2nd) - As the spring welcome party begins to wind down, take the day to enjoy the 2018 film Peter Rabbit, presented by the local cinema. Enjoy free admittance to the movie with the donation of one nonperishable item per person to benefit the Providence Peak Community Center and Food Bank.
Saturday (April 3rd) - After the downtown festival wraps up at noon, join the city at Frederick’s Farm in Bighorn Hills where everyone will be treated to fresh popped popcorn, apricots picked that day, and lemonade while waiting for their turn to fly in one of dozen hot air balloons sponsored by the Providence Peak PTA.
EVENT DETAILS
This event will be kicking off Friday, March 26th at 12pm EST. It will run until Sunday, April 4th at 12pm EST. No new starters should be posted after this time, but members may take the next few days to wrap up their threads.
Previous threads should be paused or completed by the end of Friday, March 26th.
Activity checks and acceptances will be held as usual.
Dress is casual and temperature is expected to be in the mid-50s with possible breeze and showers, so don’t forget those jackets!
Have fun and be sure to relax and enjoy this event! Please tag all event related posts with providence.event and be sure to check the starter blog for open event starters.

I’ve been reluctant to post because, well, I relapsed.
In the grand scheme of things, I know it wasn’t a bad relapse. I didn’t get drunk. I didn't drink more than I planned. I’ve still kept some boundaries in place. I’ve been really struggling to balance not beating myself up to where I don’t see the point in working towards total sobriety again but also not trying to give myself a free pass by making excuses for why it’s okay and why it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
Because it’s daunting to think about building up to another 18 months of sobriety.
The first time I drank it was on vacation. We were out to dinner and I allowed myself one and a half drinks and then I had another single drink the following day while out at a Father’s Day buffet. The next weekend followed a similar pattern - one a half drinks on a Saturday night out and then one drink at brunch on Sunday.
I’m working really hard to have this be my first fully sober weekend. For starters,  I feel like it’s going to escalate if I don’t. Especially because I have determined to set the boundary around drinking while out because it’s so expensive. That’s at least something that I can hold onto as a reason not to drink because I need money. I’m also determined not to break the other boundary that I’ve set, which is no alcohol within the house. So that basically means no alcohol, as long as I can stick to my plan and maintain those boundaries.
I don’t know. I’m not devastated but I am disappointed, mostly because of the second weekend. I felt that I could handle the first weekend because it was on vacation but drinking after coming home showed me that I was really losing control.
So now I’m needing to get back on the path of complete sobriety. I know I can. It also doesn’t help that I’m out of therapy, although my therapist really hadn’t helped me with this. I saw them for six months before I got sober and had some of my worst episodes while meeting with them. It was only when things reached basically rock bottom that I made the decision to get sober on my own.
They’re not at rock bottom now and I’m grateful for that. Now I just need to make sure it stays that way.

#throwback to this brilliant brunch we had in Goa 🤤😭 . . . Oh my god. Where do I even begin. This plate isn't even a quarter of the entire spread on offer (that's without the desserts by the way; those warrant another post). A lazy Sunday afternoon spent with one's nearest and dearest, with a spread which spans the length and breadth of the country, and the beauty of Goa as the setting; what more can one ask for? . . . I'm not one who really enjoys brunch buffets, but this was an exception. There was a time when buffet spreads were the norm for me; believe me, I'd extract a bang for a buck from each meal! Yet, with time, it has dawned on me (thankfully) that moderation is key. The point of a buffet of choices does not mean you have to consume the maximum quantity humanly possible; on the contrary, it's an opportunity to pique your palate to the different tastes on offer. You don't have to take all the choices; you can try everything, and choose the one you want. I guess this is something we can apply in our daily lives as well, don't you think? . . . It's been raining heavily in Bombay, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not destined to see summer in 2019 😭 Anyways, I hope you're having a terrific Tuesday! Make the most of your time; don't have to extract every iota out of every moment, but do make sure you try everything. Have a great day ❤️ #thinkingoutloud #writing #blogger #blog #writersofinstagram #writer #brunch #sundaybrunch #goa #chill #tryeverything #piqueyourpalate #vacationvibes #live #love #life #eat #delicious #delectable #mezze #hummus #university #unilife #warwick #universityofwarwick #reflection #pictures #pictureperfect #think  (at ITC Grand Goa) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0izpRBlNvV/?igshid=141qky3f6uyhv

Las Vegas - Stop #13 (2/17/29)
MGM Grand Casino
Suitcase in tow, I shuffled into the MGM Casino.
My last ounce of adrenaline wore off on the taxi ride and the pain REALLY set in. I was struggling to keep my eyes open, I felt feverous and I felt like I was walking on hot coals.
I unfortunately did not have it in me to go to Zak Bagan's Paranormal Museum but I still managed to gamble for the first time ever.
I gambled about 20 bucks...mostly at slot machines since I don't know the rules and didn't really have the brain capacity to do more than pull a lever sooo
Didn't break even with my winnings but oh well. I enjoyed people watching more than actually gambling at all the casinos I visited.
After cashing in my winnings, I made the slow march to the MGM buffet for their gourmet Sunday brunch 😍

Unique Places to Get Married in Maryland - A Guide
Tumblr media
One of the hardest things to do when planning your special day is to spend hours scouring the internet looking for a unique, classy, and un-used location for your wedding. I've spent the past two days in searching for that oh so elusive perfect spot. I'm going to save you all the trouble I went through and compile all the spots I found through obscure Google searches and message boards and put these locations in one place. Welcome to your one stop shop for unique wedding locations all over Maryland. For your convince I've put them into genre such as "Castle Theme", "Relaxed Theme", etc. so if you're really in a knot, you don't have to spend your whole day looking when you could be finding the perfect pair of shoes to go with your dress. Here we go:
Castles:
Cloisters Castle: This private home that was commissioned and completed in a twenty seven year span screams with uniqueness. From the exterior built of Butler gold and gray stone, gables taken from a medieval house in France as well as medallions from a 16th century Venetian home, it's a work of architectural brilliance. Located in Luthersville, MD this venue is surrounded by sixty acres of trees and a lovely garden. Its insides are furnished with authentic medieval pieces and antique furniture. The fireplace was even commissioned to be built from an antique chest carved with Renaissance figures. Famously, it was the site of actor Will Smith's and Jada Pinkett's wedding in 1998 but that hasn't put a damper on the delightful and unforgettable atmosphere the house creates. Either the outside or the inside can be made available and there is only one event per day, allowing your day to be uninterrupted in its magic. The fee for rental allows for up to ten hours on the grounds and more time can negotiated through the contract via an extra hour's fee. The venue comfortably fits 175 guests and as a bonus the staff acts as your wedding planner directing set-up, timing, and valet parking.
Maryvale Castle : Functioning as a preparatory school, Maryvale Castle boasts huge grounds complete with wedding chapel if the bride doesn't envision herself walking down the castle's much talked of grand winding staircase. Built in 1917 in Greenspring Valley, MD, this treasure houses an oak-paneled Great Hall, a solarium, and a bridal suite. A stone manor house sweeping off in both directions takes its influences from Warwick Castle in England with its Gothic arched windows, port cochere, and imposing gray towers. A rental agreement includes four hours of time which includes the rehearsal time and full use of the property. However, because it is still a working school, hours on the weekdays are more restricted than weekends. With an indoor guest capacity of 125 people and an outdoor capacity of 200, this venue is worth the strict appointment-only tour.
Mansions:
Montpelier Mansion: A mansion straight out of a Jane Austin piece, this brick Georgian structure sits on seventy acres of land flanked by dogwood trees. Built between 1781 and 1785 this national historic landmark is open to the public for tours and festivities and once housed George Washington and his wife Martha. It is also home to an uncommonly found 18th century summer house which is beautifully preserved. The maximum capacity inside and outside is somewhat small, eighty-five guests total, but the unique floor plan with crown molding and period furniture lends itself to an opulent and old-fashioned charm all its own. For people set on a Sunday wedding this venue isn't for you as they don't allow rentals on Sundays, however, having free reign over this delicate place is well worth the date change. Located in Laurell this mansion radiates country elegance akin to many a bride's favorite novel, complete with circular stone driveway.
Glenveiw Mansion: Situated in Rockville, MD as part of a Rockville Civic Center Park the house is within the neoclassical tradition sporting pillars and an infinite number of beautiful black shuttered windows looking out over the lawn. The dining room is veiled in class and luxury as are its floor-to-ceiling dark paneled wooden walls and long oval windows. The conservatory shines with old-fashioned chandeliers whose light bounces off the Italian green marble floors. The rest of the house is touched with intricate details pertaining to the period in which it was first built housing a number of turn of the century, one- of- a- kind antiques sure to make any wedding memorable. Maximum capacity for this venue is 225 guests and amount charged allows for two hours of set-up and one hour of clean-up. Some strict drawbacks to possible brides are the impossibilities of seated dining, no cooking allowed on-site, and no red-dyed beverages of any kind.
Stronghold Mansion: On top of Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, MD the completely white mansion with pillars and latticed widow's peak lends itself to the country simplicity surrounding it. The straight lawns emphasize the well designed rock walls that glide around the property housing a variety of elegant but simple flora and fauna normally seen in a country garden. The shimmering, circular lake to the side of the house has large willow trees surrounding it and making a path towards the house itself where the architecture inside matches the outside in its refined gentile decor. A standard contract allows for 7 hours and includes set-up and clean-up times. . Additional hours can be negotiated. Maximum number of guests in attendance is 200 and the rental includes 40 by 57 inch tent over the patio and can be added on to encompass the lake area as well. Parking is limited as there are only 85 spots available and clearly marked by the owners , small shuttle buses are permitted.
Liriodendron Mansion: An 1898 ornate masterpiece encompassed by a landscape dripping with flowers, this antique summer home in Harford County leaves nothing unchecked in your imagination. Whether it's the Grecian old-world architecture built around intricate carvings, urns of flowers and stone pillars, or the wisteria vines that form a canopy over the porch for a otherworldly rehearsal dinner, the house is awash in magic all its own. The Palladian styled mansion reminds guests of a fairyland surrounded by woods and fountains with a variety of romantic stone sculptures throughout the grounds. Maximum capacity is 150 guests outside, 100 guests inside with seating and there are plenty of guests parking. The renter has a choice of 6.5 hrs on weekdays where as on weekends they must choose between both rental times and party times in a wide selection of choices. Wedding rehearsals are extra payment as well as table and chair rental fees, but this is no different from most other venues.
Tudor Place: This home to Martha Washington's late granddaughter, Martha Custic Peter, is bursting at the seams with rich history and warm, comfortable elegance. The house itself was built in 1805 by Dr. William Thorton who was also famous for building the first United States Capital and The Octagon building in Washington, DC. Inside the house there are over one hundred objects belonging to George and Martha Washington and it's all been documented in an archived collection of letters, diaries, books, and photographs. As far as guests, the mansion can hold up to 35 guests for a wedding ceremony and for parties over 35 guests they must pay extra. This venue is for ceremonies only and the reservation includes an hour block of time for that ceremony. They also have their own on sight photography for a fee.
Ceresville Mansion: With a variety of ceremony options to suit any bride as well as an in-house consultant to coordinate everything smoothly, this Mansion comes with superior services. Whether the perfect wedding uses their white Grecian Pergola surrounded by dogwoods in bloom, or the terrace climbing with Ivy and backlit with candles shimmering over the reflecting lily pool, it will be something to remember. The white and black sweeping Cape Cod style home was built in 1888 alongside rivers, hillsides, and a ten acre meadow also open for events. Much of the original architecture as well as the antique furniture and fireplace are still the same as 1888. This venue has everything covered in the rental fee from seven hours of event coordination to all the outside details a catering company would normally provide like linens and a dance floor. Every Thursday evening they also offer an unusual wedding discount for those on a budget and cut the price nearly in half for the same services as a Friday or Saturday wedding event. The venue can provide for up to 200 guests and also gives a complimentary list of Food and Beverage minimum pricing so it is free of confusion and out of the way.
Inns and Taverns:  Flower Wall Rental Los Angeles
Slades Inn and Tavern: A Victorian dream painted in lively light blues and dark blues, this Inn sets itself apart with two matching circular turrets, high brick chimneys and a white wrap-around porch that Anne of Green Gables would envy. The laid-back romantic space is in Fredrick, MD a few minutes away from Baltimore. The land is dappled with greenery and horses while the exciting night-life and history of the city are in close proximity. Enjoy an easy day as all the guests are accommodated with places to stay after the reception and perhaps even stay past the ceremony for a honeymoon to enjoy hot air ballooning or a carriage tour. From beginning to end of that extraordinary day, Slade's takes care of everything from "his and hers" massages, bridal party hair and makeup sessions, as well as brunches and teas. Indoor buffet seating is for 100 guests whereas larger parties can be accommodated with tents for seated dinners and dancing for up to 150. Once the party is over, guests too busy having fun can tumble up to their rooms leaving the bride and groom clear and free of worry.

Elton John's private jet was recently forced to make an emergency landing after it experienced a hydraulic failure at 10,000 feet. According to reports, John's jet was flying over southern Ireland at 10,000 feet, en route to New York from the U.K. for a show at Madison Square Garden, when it was forced to land. According to The Sun, the plane took off around 10 am U.K. time on Tuesday, February 22, but experienced a hydraulic failure just an hour after it took off and was forced to turn back and land at Farnborough Airport in Hampshire. "The terrible weather and epic gusts made it almost impossible to land. Two attempts to touch down failed," an eye witness told The Sun. "The plane was being buffeted and couldn't make it. The aircraft's nose was far too vertical. The plane was descending and was halfway along the runway when it gave up trying to hit the tarmac. It soared back in the air."

Walking into the Mandarin Palace restaurant at The Federal Hotel is in itself an experience. I am not surprised to discover that it was once voted as one of Malaysia’s Most Beautiful Restaurants by Flavours Magazine (May-June 2007 issue). And even more impressive, the Mandarin Palace was the recipient of Malaysia Tatler’s Award for Malaysia Best Restaurant in 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005! Now, that is some record to beat.
I was there recently on an invitation to dine on their latest offering, the weekend dim sum brunch. Dim sum and I are truly best of friends! I adore those little edible bits of goodness and happiness especially on a lazy Saturday or relaxing Sunday. At the Mandarin Palace, these delicious delicacies take an almost creative art form as each is delicately prepared by the in-house chefs using only the freshest of ingredients.
After surveying what was on offer, my first task was to quickly grab a few of the dim sum steaming away in several bamboo steamers. My favourites include the siew mai dumpling, of course, together with teow chew, shark’s fin and mushroom. Some prefer to dip their dim sum in the accompanying sweet and sour sauce. I prefer to savour each bite without any other condiment. I strongly believe that the best way to judge their freshness and taste is to devour them just as they are.
I certainly was not disappointed with my first (arguably, full) plate of dim sum. My second, third, fourth and many more after was a real gastronomic treat indeed. The Mandarin Palace weekend brunch offers delectable dim sum delights. They include shrimp dumpling, crab claw dumpling, sweet and sour dumpling, curry dumpling (a must for curry-crazy Malaysians!), Thai style dumpling, otak-otak dumpling, crystal dumpling and scallop dumpling.
For variety, I decided to also try out their fried and steam fish balls which were both delicious and easy to bite into. My next trip to the buffet table took me to the fried section. I was smiling with glee looking at what was on offer. My favourites were all there such as fried wonton, fried cheese balls, fried bean curd skin and fried yam cake. For those who cannot go for hours with rice, I would recommend their glutinous rice. It is rich and utterly delish.
Sitting at the table, I was served a plate of chee cheong fun. I am not a huge fan of it but I was game to try some. I was surprised to find myself asking for more. The sauce it came with was amazing. Just the right tinge of saltiness to make the chee cheong fun truly fun to eat! After a quick slurp of the calming Chinese tea to clean my palate, I went back on the prowl to try out their sweet offerings. You can never go wrong with their sesame balls, Chinese pancake and the obligatory egg tarts.
By this time, the stomach was already groaning with pleasure. However, the Mandarin Palace’s weekend brunch is nowhere near the end of its gastronomic offering. Diners can feast their eyes at the roasting stall with a variety of roasted duck, chicken, chicken cha siew and steamed chicken to tempt their empty tummy. They can also enjoy the five spices soy chicken, duck and bean curd & egg.
Their time-honoured tradition of ensuring each guest enjoys a feast worth remembering sees the team at the Mandarin Palace preparing a variety of main dishes for them to savour. They include friend chicken with dried chilli, sweet and sour fish, Ma Po tau fu, twin mushroom with vegetables, fried hor fun with black soya bean sauce and char siew & long bean fried rice.
I couldn’t fit anything else in my tummy that day but I was pleased to see a good offering of desserts for those who can squeeze just a bit more. They can feast on sweetened rambutan with pineapple, red bean cream, baked custard dumpling, chilled red bean cake and snow skin roll, Malay kuih and freshly cut fruits.
Being at the Mandarin Palace is like relaxing in a family home although it would have to be a really grand mansion. The restaurant offers an original ethnic palatial ambiance of fine intricate impressive Chinese wood carving of auspicious dragons, phoenix, birds, lotus, flowers and many more. On each pillar, panel, wall and ceiling, guests can admire carvings that depict rich classical Chinese fables and legends. Around the restaurant, you can also admire a host of antique original Chinese furniture. The Mandarin Palace is the only Chinese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur that has such rich ambience, furnishing and historical significance.
So remember, the next time you feel like having a relaxing time with your family or friends over the weekend, head on to the Mandarin Palace restaurant at The Federal Hotel for a scrumptious dim sum brunch! Forget lunch, the brunch is the way to go on Saturday or Sunday.
Weekend Dim Sum Brunch Saturday and Sunday 10.30am – 2.30pm RM48nett (adult) RM24nett (child/senior citizen)
For reservation, please call 03-21489166 ext 2202.
Edible Bits of Happiness at the Mandarin Palace Walking into the Mandarin Palace restaurant at The Federal Hotel is in itself an experience. I am not surprised to discover that it was once voted as one of Malaysia’s Most Beautiful Restaurants by Flavours Magazine (May-June 2007 issue).

Las Vegas - Stop #14 (2/17/19)
MGM Grand Buffet
A co worker suggested I go to the MGM Grand's buffet so I went to their gourmet Sunday brunch as a way to celebrate after my race.
The food was fresh and looked amazing. I kept snapping awake at my booth and probably would have enjoyed my meal more had it happened BEFORE my race lol.
After eating what I could, I called an Uber and headed to the airport.

Rio de Janeiro Brunch Restaurants: 10Best Restaurant Reviews
New Post has been published on https://www.travelonlinetips.com/rio-de-janeiro-brunch-restaurants-10best-restaurant-reviews/
Rio de Janeiro Brunch Restaurants: 10Best Restaurant Reviews
Tumblr media
In beautiful Rio de Janeiro, there are few better ways to spend a lazy morning than lingering over over a meal that crosses the breakfast/lunch divide with style.
Brazilian breakfasts tend to be feasts in themselves, with cakes, fresh fruit, freshly-baked breads, cheeses and sliced cold meats all present and correct, alongside fresh-squeezed juices and wonderfully strong Brazilian coffee.
Brunch is a concept that has been slow to take off in Brazil – in fact, there’s no Portuguese word for it, but nobody will bat an eyelid if you order breakfast items at noon. Our top pick,  Da Casa da Tata, offers indulgent breakfast and lunch spreads as well as a-la-carte sandwiches, soups and the like, while the cakes and cookies here are legendary across the city.
One restaurant that has picked up on the brunch concept is Pergula, Copacabana Palace hotel´s famously chic poolside restaurant, the Sunday brunch is appropriately grand (smoked salmon and Champagne are both part of the indulgent offering.) It comes at a predictably eye-watering price, too, but it makes for a memorable experience.
More accessible prices can be found at Cultivar Brasil, up in the hills of Santa Teresa. This tiny organic cafe has delicious vegetarian-friendly snacks, including the best Pao de Queijo (little rolls made from manioc flour and cheese) in town.  For brunches with a sea view, it’s hard to beat Copacabana’s Cafe 18 de Forte, which has some extremely good cakes and pastries as well as fruit salads and the like. Meanwhile, visitors hankering after hash browns, waffles or other home style North American goodies, meanwhile, can join the hordes of ex-pats who flock to Ipanema’s  Gringo Cafe for a taste of home.
Tumblr media
Whether you’re a staunch vegetarian, a health-food enthusiast or even a carnivore who has tucked into one steak too many, this cosy corner restaurant in Leblon is just the ticket. Healthfood and organic eating is a growing sector of Rio’s dining scene, but this Leblon favorite was one of the first to open, and is still unarguably one of the best. At lunch, diners can load their plates high at a wholefood buffet including soups, salads, beans, rice, soya dishes and a range of healthy pies and pastries for a set price, while a-la-carte options are available in the evening. The vegan version of ‘feijaoda’, the usually-meaty national dish, made here with smoked tofu, is legendary.
Recommended for Brunch because: You don’t need to be a vegan, or even vegetarian, to appreciate the yummy buffet at this Leblon instition.
Lucy’s expert tip: Fancy a drink that doesn’t come loaded with too many toxins? At Vegetariano Social Clube you can choose from a range of organic wines, or enjoy a caipirinha made with organic cachaca.

Located a few blocks from Ipanema beach and right next door to the strip of backpacker lodgings dubbed ‘Hostel Alley’, this health food store, buffet restaurant and snack bar offers a huge range of wholesome ingredients for self caterers as well as a range of eat-in dishes that are every bit as tasty as they are nutritious. While there is plenty of choice here for vegetarians, New Natural is not entirely meat-free, with low-fat chicken and fish putting in a few appearances on the menu. The buffet operates on a pay-by-weight system, and prices here, while on the high side, are reasonable for the neighborhood. There’s an air conditioned lounge upstairs and a couple of sidewalk tables and chairs, making New Natural a favourite spot among backpackers looking for a quick, healthy lunch.
Recommended for Brunch because: This health-food cafe opens early in the morning until late at night, and serves coffee and light snacks as well as full meals.
Lucy’s expert tip: Don’t feel like a sit-down meal? There’s a range of takeaway snacks too, among which the oven baked, wholemeal pasties are stand outs. The palmito (palm heart) with soft cheese version is addictively good.

For a taste of Rio’s Belle Epoque past, head to this historic cafe-restaurant in downtown Rio. Ornate chandeliers and jacaranda wood mirrors make an elegant setting for breakfasts, brunches and afternoon teas, and this is the ideal place to take the weight of your feet and soak up the opulence during a Centro shopping or sightseeing spree. While most people head here for the experience of diving into Rio’s past, the food and drinks are top-notch, too. Come with the family for a long, leisurely brunch, or by yourself to get a morning coffee fix and try some of the lovely cakes and pastries.
Recommended for Brunch because: The opulent setting is the real draw, but the coffee, cakes and pastries here are delicious.
Lucy’s expert tip: If you’re in a rush, grab a pastry and coffee at the stand-up counter, but for a leisurely afternoon tea try to find a table in the outdoor atrium.

Given its abundant supply of coffee beans, Brazil has been surprisingly slow to pick up on the coffee bar trend, but Cafeina is one spot where caffeine boosts are more inventive than simply with-or-without-milk.
Alongside a range of cappuccinos, lattes and espressos, there are some seriously tasty cakes, pastries and other goodies that make wonderfully indulgent companions to a creamy coffee. Sandwiches here are good lunch options, and the place also serves lavish breakfasts and afternoon teas.
A good place to linger over a book with a good cup of strong coffee, Cafeina has truly earned a place in locals’ hearts.
Recommended for Brunch because: Cafeina serves delicious coffee, cakes and sandwiches at all hours of the day.
Lucy’s expert tip: If you want a hearty start to the day but are keen to keep in trim for the beach, opt for the low-fat breakfast platter with plenty of fresh fruit and wholegrains.

For the ultimate indulgent Rio experience, head to the Pergula, the elegant poolside restaurant at the enduringly elegant Copacabana Palace hotel. Less formal than the hotel’s fine dining Italian restaurant, Cipriani. at Pergula you can dine in your (suitably stylish) swimwear and sarong. Watch beautiful people splash around in the pool as you sip Champagne cocktails and dine on seafood and light pasta dishes, or head here for the famous breakfasts and brunches, which include salmon and even caviar washed down with a spot of bubbly. The likes of the Obamas, Will Smith and Madonna have all dined here, so keep your eyes peeled for A-listers.
Recommended for Brunch because: Brunch at Pergula is a wonderfully romantic way to start the day.
Lucy’s expert tip: You don’t need to be a guest at the hotel to dine here, but it pays to dress in your most chic casual wear if you want to make it past the doorman.

Occupying a corner building on Santa Teresa’s liveliest square – Largo do Guimaraes – Cafe do Alto has carved out a reputation for serving delicious dishes at fair prices, in a wonderfully colorful setting. The emphasis is on food from Brazil’s Northeast, but but avoids the stodginess that sometimes weighs down Nordestino cooking. Light dishes include tapioca panckaes filled with everything from tomato and marinated tomatoes or shredded jerk beef, to sweet versions filled with fruit and curd cheese; while recommended mains include moqueca – a typical seafood stew, here adapted to include veggie friendly versions made with palm heart or yucca. There are abundant breakfast options, and the weekend breakfast buffet – which runs until 1pm – is the ideal hangover cure for anybody who partied hard in nearby Lapa the night before. Service is attentive, the decor is cheery and the cafe scores major parental brownie points for its kid-friendly menu and drawing materials.
Recommended for Brunch because: This place serves enormous, and delicious, breakfast spreads that will cure any caipirinha-induced hangover
Lucy’s expert tip: There’s a good – if pricey – range of wines, along with an extensive craft beer selection and yummy batidas (mixture of fruit, condensed milk and sugar cane rum).

Your leisurely brunch comes with a refreshing sea breeze and stunning sea views at this al-fresco spot in the grounds of Copacabana Fort. Breakfast is served at several outdoor table and, while service can be a little on the slow side, who’s in a rush when you’ve got a view over Copacabana beach and out to sea? The ‘farmhouse breakfast’ (R$29) features corn cake, coffee cheese, baskets of bread, fruit and the delicious Brazilian speciality that is pao de quejo – little rolls of manioc flour and cheese. Come here with time to spare and take your time just soaking up the view and enjoying the cooling breezes.
Recommended for Brunch because: The gorgeous sea view makes this a top spot to relax with coffee and cake.
Lucy’s expert tip: Reward a walk along Copacabana’s 4-mile sweep of sand with a drink and bite to eat here.

Aimed squarely at North Americans with a hankering for taste of their homeland, Gringo Cafe does a roaring trade in US DIner-style favorites such as hash browns, bottomless coffees, pancakes, waffles and French toast, as well as delicious cakes, milkshakes and cheese burgers made with imported American cheese. The breakfasts, served all day, are manna from heaven for many homesick ex-pats, who can indulge a craving for bacon, eggs made any way you choose, while mains such as mac & cheese and spaghetti with meatballs also help to keep homesickness pangs at bay. A couple of blocks back from the beach, Gringo Cafe is also popular with wealthy locals keen to experience a taste of North America, but the English-speaking staff mean that bedazzled visitors to the city can relax and put the phrase book away here.
Recommended for Brunch because: Gringo Cafe offers North Americans a taste of home, with all-day breakfasts and endless coffee refills.
Lucy’s expert tip: The muffins, cooked breakfasts and burgers here are all good, but the bagels don’t quite hit the mark.

This small, unassuming, unsigned little lunch and brunch spot is a great option for anybody with an aversion to gluten or a preference for natural, organic ingredients. Alongside a range of wholemeal sweet and savory tarts and pies and some yummy sandwiches, there are gluten-free cakes, tarts (try the palm-heart and yogurt) and a mini-store stocked with a range of pastas, biscuits and other goodies to take away. In addition, Cultivar Brazil serves unarguably the best Pao de Queijo (little cheese breads made with manioc flour), here made with organic ingredients. There’s no sign above the cafe, but Cultivar Brazil opens right onto Santa Teresa’s main drinking and dining strip.
Recommended for Brunch because: This place serves some of the yummiest breakfast dishes in town, and it serves them all day long.
Lucy’s expert tip: Wait until a fresh batch of pao de queijo comes fresh out of the oven, as these little lovelies are at their best when hot.

A welcoming spot where staff go out of their way to make customers feel at home, Da Casa da Tata frequently crops up in food and drink magazines’ ‘Best of’ lists, with its breakfasts in particular garnering rave reviews. The range of home-made breads is in itself a reason to visit, and the fresh-out-of-the-oven smell hangs in the air as you enter, to mouthwatering effect. Breakfasts range from inexpensive and simple, yet truly tasty, plates of bread, butter, jelly, juice and coffee – to lavish spreads of cakes, pastries, breads, cheeses, fresh seasonal fruit and juices, and the coffee is seriously good.
Recommended for Brunch because: Da Casa da Tata is regularly cited by Rio food and drinks magazines as the city’s best lunch spot.
Lucy’s expert tip: Come here with a hearty appetite and time to spare, and enjoy Brazilian brunch at its lavish best.
