i watched the x-men films for the first time ever here are my thoughts *spoilers obviously* :D

small backstory: i was going to go watch Deadpool & Wolverine however i have seen the previous deadpool movies but i’ve never watch the x-men films at all, my knowledge of that universe is minimal. my coworker suggested i at least watch Logan before watching Deadpool & Wolverine so i did.

Logan is easily one of the best Marvel films i have ever watched in my life, like top 3 films for sure it was amazing im still thinking about this movie weeks later. so i watch Deadpool & Wolverine and realize im low key obsessed with logan so might as well watch all the x-men films ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ALSO I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE FROM THE COMICS DONT COME FOR ME

The Original Trilogy

Overall i enjoyed the first two films, i think The Last Stand might be my least favorite of the whole franchise im not gonna lie

i’m just gonna say it, i was so not here for the Logan & Jean romance, like im kind of a hater so if this upsets you than this post is not for you lmao

Right of the bat, Logan & Jean’s romance felt SO forced. like it wasn’t believable for me, in the first movie it felt like Logan decided he was in love with Jean, not that he is actively falling in love with her, it was kinda weird

Meanwhile you can like clearly tell that Scott & Jean are in love with each other, but it feels like Logan’s character is just disregarding that

I understand in the comics it’s supposed to be a love triangle of sorts, i just think that if they wanted to do that for the films they could have portrayed it better

my favorite is X2 of this trilogy i really liked the plot and how it expanded more into Logan’s story

The Wolverine Trilogy

Origins wasn’t like, super terrible? i guess? my least favorite of this trilogy for sure though

i liked the plot twist that his girlfriend of 6 years was manipulating him, i didn’t see it coming, i was like WOW that’s fucked up

was disappointed he forgave her like wtf 😭

deadpool thing was weird i didn’t like that

good film to learn logan’s backstory, his brother was so fucking annoying though

The Wolverine was a decent film, if ur looking for an x-men film that’s more action centric than mutant centric this is your film

it felt like a wolverine side quest lol, nothing crazy going on, but i liked it more than Origins

logan is just tired

snake lady’s powers were cool

this girl is never going to see logan again so at least she got what she could

it goes without saying that Logan 2017 is the best film in the whole x-men/fox franchise

i could definitely make a whole post going into a deep dive of Logan but i’ll just keep it short

Logan’s dedication to taking care of Charles warms my heart in a way you cannot imagine, he truly cares so deeply for that man, charles gave him the opportunity of having a new family and i feel like logan will always be grateful for him

it was like watching Logan go from only caring about kids in a “i’m a teacher” way to seeing Laura in a “i’m her caretaker now” kind of way, like there was a shift in his character that he wasn’t expecting

my little family of three that definitely lived happily ever after

my favorite scene of the whole film was when Logan realizes that it was his clone self that stabbed Charles, and his immediate gut reaction was to say “It wasn’t me” and to reassure Charles that Logan would NEVER do that

so that Charles would never die thinking one of his closest friends (AND SON FIGURE) would ever betray him like that and kill him

LIKE THAT WAS SO IMPORTANT TO LOGAN, HE DIDNT WANT CHARLES TO DIE THINKING HE KILLED HIM ;_________;

X-Men Prequel Films

oh boy here go

right off the bat i’m going to say Days of Future Past exceeds all four of these films, so fucking good, my favorite after Logan

but yeah First Class wasn’t like, terrible per say, i just found myself a little bored ngl

absolutely here for eric & charles love story, they’re literally friends to lovers to enemies to still lovers but they’re still enemies i adore it

i liked the character that mystique brought (& jennifer lawrence) but it was just such a jump from the mystique in the first films

also i just think that if eric wants to kill his abuser then he should go for it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just saying charles it was a lil weird u wanted to stop him

i get the premise, setting up the basis of the x-men, but i just found it a little lacking

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

amazing 10/10 movie, i genuinely enjoyed every second, actually felt like a superhero movie

great balance of logan not knowing what the fuck is going on vs charles knowing exactly what to do next & logan just going along with it i love it

i’ve heard legends of how amazing quicksilver is in these films and this went beyond my expectations, fantastic character AND amazing showcase of his powers, the writers cooked on this, also makes me want to rewatch wandavision bc i didn’t appreciate his character enough son i’m so sorry

prison breaking out eric sequence was amazing

there’s so much more but just overall amazing film

apocalypse was definitely something? i mean it was probably difficult to follow up days of futures past so i can’t blame them, not like the worst film ever but ….. idk

THINGS I LOVED !! young jean & scott :’) !!!!! genuinely so happy to see the beginning of their friendship & romantic relationship, they’re literally so fucking cute AND young storm omfg a baby 🫶🏾

took me a second to realize it was oscar isaac lol, also OUCH eric’s little family but also like wtf was that death ??? 😭

idk plot was just kinda everywhere, nothing super memorable, also i just found it funny that logan was there for like less that 5 minutes and all he did was grunt lmfao at least he popped off on stryker for the millionth time fuck that guy

the one and only highlight for me for dark phoenix was once again, jean & scott lmfao

the whole solar flare & alien race thing was kinda weird, they didn’t even explain the alien race thing that well, idk what to even say about this movie

i thought it was weird that hank & eric were suddenly jumping on the “let’s kill jean” train when like they know she didn’t mean to kill raven ??? 😭 like wtf

someone explain the timeline bs to me bc i was surprised that jean “died” AGAIN.

wasn’t the point of futures past that logan now in the present is experiencing the new timeline in which charles, scott, and jean are all alive

so why did jean die in this, does that not defeat the purpose, like she’s alive in the present

or were they trying to plan another prequel film in which she comes back, again. then it’s just a repeating storyline from the og trilogy

anyways it was kinda bad

i don’t even want to talk about The New Mutants i’m gonna be real, it was also bad

and that is my long af reaction to watching all the x-men films for the first time. if you’re reading this and read all my yapping then thank you i really appreciate it lol 🫶🏾 in conclusion, i’m sad i missed out on a whole era of these movies when they were being released (probably bc im avengers obsessed lol) but i’m glad i did watch them now, and now i have a new universe to hyper fixate on lmfao (and logan) amazing movies !! gonna go rewatch Logan now ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I Finally Figured Out the Fox X-Men Continuity

OK, here's my attempt at making sense of it all - like it or not, I'm convinced this is what's going on. I'll try to make it as clear as possible; hear me out.

In my mind, the Fox X-Men film series depicts 2 different universes:

UNIVERSE 1: All the films with X-Men in the titles, as well as The Wolverine

UNIVERSE 2: The Deadpool films (which will be from now on abbreviated as DP) and Logan.

This explains why Wade is the same age in DP1 (set in 2016) as he is in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (set in the 1970s or 1980s). Logan's X-Men: Days of Future Past time-traveling to 1973 couldn't possibly have changed Wade's Origins birth date, which must've been in the 40s or 50s. This also explains why Colossus has an American accent in the X-Men films and a Russian accent in the DP films. Therefore, the DP films are a separate universe where Wade was born a few decades later and Colossus was raised in Russia.

This also explains why there are many young mutant children at the school in the final scene of DOFP (set in the year 2023), whereas no new mutant children have been born in 25 years in Logan (set in the year 2029). They are separate universes.

Within these 2 universes are multiple timelines, caused by the fact that each universe has a different methods of time-travel:

In UNIVERSE 1, Kitty Pryde's time-traveling of Bishop's and Logan's consciousnesses into their younger bodies in DOFP rewrites timelines.

In UNIVERSE 2, Cable's device in the DP films causes timeline-branching.

Therefore:

UNIVERSE 1 first has its timeline rewritten at the beginning of DOFP, when Kitty sends Bishop back. It is then more fully rewritten, starting in 1973, by the ending of DOFP. The last we see of the OG timeline is when the Sentinels are about to wipe out the last X-Men, then that reality is erased. The last we see of the new timeline, and that universe in general, is Logan waking up to the new, happier future - and that's the end of OG Logan's story.

UNIVERSE 2 is not rewritten, but branched several times.

It gets its 1st branch from Cable when he first time-travels; he comes from a point in time several decades after the events of Logan and after Laura is pruned by the TVA.

It then gets a 2nd branch when Cable saves Wade.

It then gets a 3rd branch when Wade saves Vanessa. During the events of DP&W, Wade is living permanently in this 3rd branch, where Vanessa never died. This is not the same branch as the events of Logan. However, all the branches are within the same universe - which is why the events of Logan cause the TVA's plans to affect Wade's reality. And this is why Laura is able to stay in Wade's reality at the end of DP&W without causing a paradox - she comes from the original timeline of this universe, then relocates to its 3rd branch.

Side-note 1: In the infinite multiverse, many universes are extremely similar with one key event that causes it to unfold differently than another. In the case of UNIVERSE 2, it clearly has similarities to UNIVERSE 1 - in Logan, Charles references the Statue of Liberty incident that happens in X-Men 1, indicating that the events of the OG trilogy in UNIVERSE 1 also happened in a similar way in UNIVERSE 2. But the difference between the two universes unfolds in how mutants are wiped out:

In UNIVERSE 1, Trask develops the Sentinels and then the timeline-overwrite causes mutants to finally be accepted.

In UNIVERSE 2, Transigen develops the mutant-suppressing poison which is mixed into widely-consumed food, impacting mutations and stopping mutants from being born after 2004. (This is why Russell is 14 years old in the year 2018 in DP2; he was one of the last mutants to be born in 2004 before the poison started suppressing the X-gene in pregnancies in this universe. This is also the cause of the Westchester Incident in Logan; Charles is not affected by a regular human disease, but rather by the mutant food poisoning that only exists in this universe that has made his mutation unstable, and is further inflamed by the emotional after-effects of Erik’s sudden death from said poisoning).

Side-note 2: Cable's device also enables universe-hopping, as seen when Wade briefly visits the MCU and talks with Happy, then goes home, in DP&W. Clearly this is an ability that was engineered within the 6 years that pass between DP2 and DP&W so that Wade could reach the MCU, and in general do some reality-traveling without continuing to affect his own reality; he certainly wouldn’t have wanted to risk any meddling that would’ve jeopardized Vanessa’s salvation in the branch he created.

Side-note 3: You could also view Wade killing Weapon XI at the end of DP2 as another bit of universe-hopping, and possibly creating a branch in UNIVERSE 1. Or, you could view it as an unserious meta-joke that doesn’t actually have timeline implications, just like the X-Men somehow appearing young - including McAvoy!Charles - in the year 2018 in DP2, which is flat-out impossible in both universes and clearly only a joke.

hi hello!!!! I already answered 17, so I’ll just talk about a couple of my favorite movies :)))

1. The Secret of Moonacre (2009)

Jesus Christ I love this movie. It’s based on a book that is bad, but it was made into a movie that is my favorite thing in the world, me and my sister watch it ALL the time.

There’s just so much to love about it. It’s a fantastical movie that I don’t want to spoil, but it’s got magic, it’s got 2008 CGI, it’s got fairytale worlds, it’s got so many queer undertones that it’s insane, it’s got historically inaccurate but stunning costumes, sets and scenery to DIE for, some of my favorite scenes in movie history just for the whimsy of it all, and Tim Curry.

The main character Maria is LITERALLY just me, and very Jemima coded, and you’ll see why if you watch the movie, I cannot recommend it enough. Someday I should do fanart

And it’s got this gayass mcr teenage guyfailure silly boy with eyeliner who my sister clocked as gay the MINUTE he walked on screen.

(Why do people keep doing that to me. First with this, then my friend with Misto (HOW DID HE DO THAT??? IT WAS THE FIRST LINE!!!))

2. Clue (1985) and Glass Onion (2022)

I LOVE detective and crime movies that are focused on shenanigans, aesthetics, and actually SOLVING the crimes. So much of true crime to me is just ‘and then the violent and misogyny person ate 8 children 😔’ like okay. Thank you.

I actually can’t stand it and that’s why I like murder mysteries more than thrillers.

Clue is hysterical and has shaped my humor to an insane degree, my dad and I quote it each other all of the time. The murder mystery element is incomprehensible but the shenanigans are so good that you don’t even notice the entire movie is nonsense until the end. 10/10 no notes.

Glass Onion is a masterpiece. Eat the rich <3. Also they should keep making Knives Out movies forever.

3. Wait Till Helen Comes (2016) and Bluebeard (2009)

OBSCURE INDIE FILM GIRLIES UNTIE!!! I’m a huge fan of movies that are spooky, but not horror, and these movies delivers on both accounts, at least for me. Also they’re free on YouTube :))) double win!!!!

WTHC was one of my FAVORITE books as a kid, (alongside like. Dork diaries and Frozen Charlotte), so when I saw it was a movie on YouTube I lost my mind. Watched it in the middle of the night at my great-aunts house while writing horror fanfiction. Truly the teenage dream.

It’s SO crazy to me, atmospheric, makes almost no sense, but is still one of my favorites.

Bluebeard is Bluebeard :)) so so good, in French, watched it for the first time about two weeks ago? And my computer started screaming at me. Like actual screams. Super creepy. I love the acting, I love the ambiguous ending that is SUPER dark and abstract. What was going on there. I love it.

ok i’m about to go on an x-men (movies) rant lmfao

preface: idk anything about the x-men universe, comics included, these are just my thoughts on the movies so far so don’t come at me

so basically before watching deadpool & wolverine my coworker suggested i watch logan first, so i did. one of the best marvel films of all time like holy fuck it’s SO GOOD !!!! LIKE IN MY TOP 5 MARVEL FILMS NOW I LOVED IT SM ;____; (i love logan lol)

so that inspired me to watch the x-men movies for the first time, i’ve never seen them and idk too much about the x-men really. so far i’ve finished the original trilogy, x-men first class, and i finished wolverine origins & am now starting the second wolverine movie

and yeah they’re not like, the best movies of all time (idk how comic accurate they are that’s a whole other story) but like they’re still good in their own way

but i just have to say, it’s been on my mind since the finishing the original trilogy, that logan & jean’s “romance” makes no fucking sense to me. like it genuinely pisses me off lmfao. while watching the first three movies, i kinda played it off as like oh logan’s just a flirt, he knows jean & scott are in love, SURELY he’ll back off right?

LIKE IT JUST KEEPS GOING?? and i read up about it afterwards and i guess they are supposed to have like a “love triangle” of sorts but i genuinely felt no chemistry between jean & logan at all.

like in the first film, right at the end, it feels like logan just decides that he’s in love with jean, not that he falls in love with jean yknow? idk if that makes sense

but also the third movie was just a shit show and the biggest fuck you to scott i felt to bad for him, also annoyed that yeah jean would tell logan she’s in love with scott, but she still would like invite his flirting? idkkk i don’t wanna be a hater but jean & logan makes no sense to me and i think they should have further developed jean & scott’s relationship ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
