[ID: An excerpt from the transcript of Night Vale episode 149, followed by violent reaction images. The excerpt reads:
I think of Carlos's face. I say aloud to my imagined Carlos: "The first time you called me, I knew you liked me even though you avoided my flirting. I thought you were trying to be professional, Carlos, playing ignorant. But you weren't. You were shy. You didn't know how to ask. I knew I loved you."
The reaction images show a bloody person on all fours with a severed limb in their mouth, a person sobbing at their phone, and someone denting a wall with their head. End ID]
JOSEPH FINK AND JEFFREY CRANOR YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM MY LAWYERS AND THERAPIST SOON

big big fan of your lamen stuff. the romance the sexual tension the character study… the gyri and sulci of your brain are so beautifully crafted. please please write some more when u are free of the adamronan shackles (i get it)
omg thank you… fun fact for you maybe (?) i DO have somewhere in my google docs about 45k of a post-canon damen/laurent fic that became just insanely involved and convoluted and full of world-building… dense political fantasy with like so much porn… perhaps someday it will see the light of day. people have TRIED to pry adam and ronan from my hands, in more ways than one, but alas… alack… i do miss my boy laurent though. maybe in 2025 i’ll get back on that train. thank you so much though this is a great message i so appreciate you saying so!! 🫶🫶

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: Aurora Uteralis by Katie Mihalek
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/aurora-uteralis-by-katie-mihalek/
Aurora Uteralis blurs the lines between the #plant and the #body as #poems deliberate on #sexuality, autonomy, and the different facets of emotional #intimacy we carry. The poems simultaneously live within the world of the body, not shying away from imagery of stretch marks and vaginal fluid, while bridging this inner world to one of shriveled sage plants, clamshells, and cockroaches. Unexpected pairings of body and #nature ask us to look more closely at ourselves through the growth, decay, and dirt of life around us. From neurons and maple leaves to electrocardiograms and lightning, these poems are intensely personal as they discover how the body is seen, loved, and grieved through environment.
Katie Mihalek is a writer whose poems have appeared in Frontier, Sheila-Na-Gig, Spectrum, Beyond Words, and elsewhere. She is the author of the chapbook Aurora Uteralis at Finishing Line Press. She has earned a M.S. in Medical Sciences from Boston University and, most recently, an MFA in Creative Writing at Emerson College, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of Redivider. She lives in Somerville, Massachusetts.
PRAISE FOR Aurora Uteralis by Katie Mihalek
Katie Mihalek’s Aurora Uteralis folds scientific language into personal realization that results in poems that examine life through defamiliarized images. The speakers contemplate photosynthesis, the brain’s gyri and sulci, feather boas, plasma as vaginal fluid, and even chameleon melanophores while launching into the feminine. Enter these poems for unexpected and exhilarating turns. Enter these poems and the world will start to shift around you.
–Rajiv Mohabir, author of Whale Aria
The poems of Katie Mihalek’s collection, Aurora Uteralis, are marvels of profound embodiment and visionary attention. In “Jonah,” for example, a child finds herself in “the belly” of a department store clothes rack and, cradled there, comes to discover “what worship looks like” in the body of that vital “layering.” In another poem, a similar layering reveals itself inside the brain where “trees / layer over synapse edges.” These “layerings” are the inlays of metaphor, as in the title poem where the speaker awakens to an awareness of the cosmic correspondence within her own body, its plasma making her think of the “gaseous galaxies / and burning serenity held” inside her. Mihalek identifies these layers and correspondences with a topographer’s concentration on detail, a scientist’s inquisitiveness and, above all, with a poet’s formal sensitivity and imaginative breadth. What an excellent debut.
–Daniel Tobin, author of The Mansions

HUMAN BODY: A TRUE WONDER
The human body is so intricately designed and carved that you are so amazed, you want to know who the designer is.
We all know about the seven wonders of the world and we are always in awe of how magnificent they are but ever wondered how amazing your own body is?
These thoughts that I am penning down right now are a result of the brain that sits right on top. We have thousands and thousands of thoughts in a day. We are even thinking while we are asleep. Look at it's structure... How well made it is... The sulci, the gyri, the ventricles, everything is so perfectly made to sit inside the skull and control the whole body. In one moment you are here and in yet another it takes you to a different land altogether. The hormones and the chemicals released have such drastic effect on your physical and mental attributes and state.
The heart is yet another piece of art.... It never misses a beat. It keeps pumping blood throughout the body till we are alive. Imagine a thing that never stops to work... its working every second!!
No camera on this earth can recreate the brilliance of the human eye. Whatever you see is so vivid and lively. The way it has been created, the way images are processed in our brain. All the images that you see are so fine and immaculate.
The spinal cord, like a tree with roots holds our being together by carrying all kinds of impulses and sensations across it.
These are just few of the organs that I've listed here. If you see the human body from top to bottom, you will be intrigued, amazed and you surely would want to meet the creator. From the breath that we take to the words that we speak are all marvels of the creator.
All the wonders of the world are well maintained and taken care of but ever wondered how taken for granted are our own bodies are? The human body is a heavenly abode of the soul. It should be taken care of like the wonders of the world. The amount of stress, both physical and mental that we face these days, wears down our body day by day. It's our responsibility to take good care of this sanctum sanctorum, a way to thank the creator for blessing us with this wonder.
Ponder over this fact and keep taking small steps towards maintaining this creation that you have, this creation that is you and you will see how it gives you all the joy in the world.
Namsakar,
THE SPIRIT SANCTUARY

// Violent waves of emotions //
Tinged in October hues, my thoughts rest over the crevices of my mind. I picture what's its like to have neural pathways and different segments of the brain (sulci and gyri). Each memory, nostalgia and thought trails through these fine pavements and trickles down one by one. And reach the epicenter where they are amalgamated into the center of feelings and emotions. As objective thoughts are associated with feelings; nostalgia no longer becomes the absence of things but in fact the deep grievance of loss and the desire to want the same thing to happen again. A similar blue print expands into our lives. The mountains that rise above us and the clear sky that spreads are all reminiscent of the huge struggles that pose a challenge to our writ. The way waves rise become our heart beats and how dust settles over the past is how we hide our sins as a mechanism to start over. With the lingering fingerprints of those who caused it, loss feels more present now than ever. A name is given to the ones who have gone and a love that is unwanted is planted in the womb of this earth. That already rises from death and decay to make room for new life. As a new moon now hangs from above unfulfilled wishes rise like chants of a poem written for the beloved. Accentuated by the sounds of rustling leaves, somehow the process of turning over the leaf means the difference between life and death. As life unfolds like a series of unfortunate events that were bound to occur, I look for purpose behind this mayhem. A rhythm within the storm. As my skin ages and each wrinkle embodies a myriad of experiences both good and bad. The greys of my hair symbolise how long I've been walking alive albeit within a few restrictions. I try to map life and once again cover up the path that was only traversed by me. Like gathering evidences of us crossing our paths. But the world I knew is no longer the same now. Some years are so heavy they not only break us from inside they also construe our image of this world. Wanting to change that perception now seems impossible. So I take all this with me. This unrequited yearning of the past. This unfathomable concept of being home, but not quiet. And the longing to find a soul who feels the same. For the ones I knew fed on insecurities and thrived on egos. They made huge castles in the air of their own kingdoms and were self proclaimed royalty. Among all the things innate and instinctive, the idea that one is better than others is not purely impulsive, it takes years of conditioning the mind to only highlight one's achievements and forego their shortcomings. But who keeps record of the failures they hide from the world. Because failure doesn't always look the same. It may not seem like it but being regarded as manipulative, arousing threat among others and being a hypocritical about pain; becomes representative of what one holds inside the heart. So as autumn approaches and we take our burdened bodies who have dealt with difficult people with grace and poise, and we crash down under. In a million pieces now lays our strength. Because for now we know we are in safe hands. And those whom we can't confront may stay this way all their lives. Sooner or later, their faces will no longer be so immaculately masked by pleasantries. I gather the broken pieces, become myself anew. All the time checking I don't become the victim of my own vanity. I let my thoughts make their way through the ocean and try to find answers in the raging waves that have started to taste like familiar tears. I look back and wonder, why must the taste of learning life's lesson, be so painstakingly personal?

i’m in med school too so i don’t know if this would be of any help but: get ready to fail on tests and have teachers be so demanding of u. you would be feeling as if you were a robot who cant do no mistakes. in highschool i was at my top, had the best grades and even got a scholarship. the moment i started med school it was the HEAVIEST and teachers are going to be RUTHLESS with you. i don’t know how are teachers in other parts of the world but in here they ask you questions about everything till you crack. I had this professor, who was a neurosurgeon, who would ask us in the labs about the sulci and parts of the brain. if you managed to answer him he would ask you even more, he wouldn't stop until he saw that you knew enough. he did this especially to prepare you once you got to the hospital rotations (i’m not sure how you say it in english ?). you really need to learn stuff in such a short span. you will need techniques to memorize. mnemonics are the best! also, after finishing a class go directly to review it and during the week gradually study it together with other subjects. having study groups is the best too. in my case the med school library became my second home. the amount of pressure is insane. there’s a crazy amount of learning you have to do because you will be dealing with LIVES. human lives. but what you really need is the mindset. the mental state of medical students is low, so make sure you prioritize your health whenever you can! in my experience, before entering medicine i worked as best as i could on my mental health and relaxation techniques for stressful situations. however, it doesn't mean you won’t experience this anymore in medical school, so you need to have techniques or know what to do in case of an episode (whether it's depression, anxiety or stress). get ready to fail, demand the best of yourself (always), have a support system, be open about learning, and give a warm welcome to years of no social life outside of school lmao. overall is exhausting and when people are giving you a warning is not out of exaggeration. I say this because I thought so at the beginning and I was so wrong.
(sorry for any grammar mistakes, i’m not a native english speaker!)
yesss the imposter syndrome hit me HARD in med school. when you're in school you're the top student. you're the smartest. everyone tells you how gifted you are and how you're gonna achieve so much. and then you get to med school and everyone around you is smart and gifted, even more than you, and for the first time in your life you feel stupid and inadequate and you start wondering if you're actually smart at all or if you somehow tricked all those people into thinking you're something you're not. my professors weren't actually bad like you're describing but that differs per school but I remember one time during my peak imposter syndrome days I was sitting in class, knowing nothing while seemingly everyone else around me knew everything and the professor stops the lecture to say "if you don't know this stuff already at this point then quit because someone else deserves to be in your place" and fuck I was devastated
great advice on the reviewing everything as soon as you get back thing because things pile up FAST in med school. you don't think it would be so bad but it is and you'll really thank yourself later that you'd looked over the material while it's still fresh. study groups or even just a study partner are another great idea. i never used to study with anyone, couldn't do it, but by the end of med school me and my study partner were pulling each other by the bootstraps. i couldn't have done it without him
+++the social life thing. I thought it wouldn't matter to me because I am a huge introvert but at some point the only thing you'll be doing in your life is studying. your life will revolve around med school and you won't have time to do anything else. and not only just in med school. as a doctor you'll never stop studying or taking tests. yeah the pressure of needing to pass in order to graduate will be gone but you'll still need to study so much that people take weeks off from work just to study for those tests. i just recently had to take two months off work in order to study and take a test. not to mention that you'll be expected to work your ass off the first few years after you graduate in order to learn and gain experience and because consultants aren't going to be the ones to work most patients so say goodbye to your 20's. by the time you come up for air you'll be well into your 30's
and yeah this is all not said just to scare you but because it's true. i too scoffed at the people who told me how hard med school is and continued scoffing at them my first two years. yeah it was hard but it was manageable but boy was I wrong. you won't know what hit you until it's too late :')
so yeah take care of yourself mentally because you'll need the fortitude

Wolfsbane : Noblesse Fanfic (post-ending)
(previous chapter)
Chapter 70 – Stepping Into the Daily Life (Last Chapter)
“Frankenstein...”
For the second time, Lunark and Muzaka sang in unison, the former out of anxiety and the latter out of fluster.
Lunark was making pretzels out of her arms and legs in her lord's presence, in snow-white dress shirt loosely curved around her form and black shorts that werewolves don when they must find themselves on examination tables or in experimental tanks.
Her style could not even meet the minimum demands to qualify as “stylish,” but Muzaka knew that she would never dress like this on her own.
Inevitably, his suspicion was directed to the man standing next to her, and Muzaka mercilessly spun his eyes and kicked at his head to blueprint the plan the blonde man was harboring.
And then Frankenstein fired a shot aimed right through his calm.
“Lunark and I are together.”
The unseen flame shattered Muzaka's eardrums, to hop and bounce between gyri and sulci of his brain and throw out his poise.
“Don't tell me... You mean, 'together' together?”
“'Together' together.”
“Frankenstein!”
I'd thought I told you to please make sure she'll give up on her feelings!
How can you do this to me?!
Muzaka could not do anything more than keeping his lips parted in frenzied shock, lest she learn about the secret deal he made with Frankenstein.
Much to his relief, Frankenstein knew how to keep a secret a secret.
“I'm aware of what you fear. Of course you'd fear. You should know very well what human-werewolf love is like. After all, - forgive me - you had to suffer grievous parting with Lady Eileen and Miss Ashleen.”
At once, Muzaka's lips furiously collided with each other, at the mention of names that had been flowers and thorns engraved into his heart.
Now the petals have fallen, the thorns removed, leaving behind only nostalgic perfume, which he can now relaxedly albeit rarely articulate.
In this case, however, perhaps because they came after Frankenstein's withdrawal from his request, Muzaka was quite unhappy.
He would have been caught in rage not long after, if it were not for his knowledge that Frankenstein will never break a promise unless there is a very good reason to.
“You wish Lunark wouldn't even catch a glimpse of what you had to walk through. There's no guarantee that she will be safe from the sabotage from her own kind. Love with humans is considered a taboo in your clan. But you don't wish to leave this pseudo-tradition untouched, do you?”
Right afterwards, Frankenstein was pinned with arrow-stares silently demanding explanations.
“I could feel various changes gliding over your domain ever since you returned to the throne. Such as, training warriors based on their natural-born power, untainted by experiments or body modifications. Improvement on relations with nobles. Demise of history of sacrificing your very kind, under orders of Maduke. And I bet amelioration of the counterpart with humans is included on your list. 'Cause lately the wolfkind has benefited from humans, not limited to me. And in order to do that, don't you think you must turn the table in favor of relationships with humans?”
“...So, you're saying I should make use of your relationship?”
“Consider it a destruction for creation. We'll destroy the wall that must now be brought down, to give rise to the seeds waiting to sprout from underneath.”
No sound came from Muzaka, but he was deliberating.
Frankenstein was right; with new era must come new rules, according to which he must remove the disconnection between mankind and wolfkind.
And Frankenstein was offering a hand in this matter, which as a werewolf lord he must accept it.
Lunark's face was a hint that Frankenstein was not the sole advocate of this suggestion.
As for Muzaka's secondary concern, he dreaded that Lunark will not be able to fully dedicate herself to the QuadraNet Project and post-eradication of the Union due to her unreciprocated love.
That is, unreciprocated love that will soon assume a wholesome relationship and thus serve no more as bars in her path, if Frankenstein is to make her emotions flow freely like thawed river.
And yet Muzaka could not help but weigh the pros and cons, as he was worried that Lunark's choice will eventually turn into a tragedy.
Lunark knew this, and hence she decided to be a lawyer for herself.
“I know you care for me, my lord. You have been caring for me ever since I was a child. But trust me when I say this - the reason why I choose this path is not because I expect only happiness.”
As Lunark put together her words, her hand slowly snaked its way towards the man standing next to her, to clasp his fingers and show how iron-hard their hearts are woven.
“When there's spring, there's winter. When there's light, there's darkness. In other words, when there's darkness, there's light. And when there's winter, there's spring. That is our world. That is life. So is love, I believe. When there's happiness, there's misfortune. When there's misfortune, there's happiness. Happiness is not the only treasure I expect inside the chest. I have simply chosen to open it.”
Tremor evaporated from Lunark as her speech carried on.
The pair of pink diamonds on her face was sparkling with conviction instead of credulity, with confidence instead of arrogance.
“It doesn't matter how stormy our path will be. No howl of rain or avalanche of water will make us release each other's hand. So please, put your faith in us and watch us. Nothing can stop us, as long as we're together.”
Tremor was gone from Muzaka as well, by the end of her deliverance.
But the werewolf lord's mouth was fixed in its place, not even as much as mumbling what is winding in his head.
And Frankenstein's patience was on a strike for the day.
“If this is how things will be, I will expend one of my wishes right now.”
Lunark merely let her head lean on her shoulder, clueless about Frankenstein's so-called wish.
In devastating contrast, Muzaka's eyes tumbled up and down, in overwhelming disbelief of what he had just heard.
“You said you will grant me any wish, as long as it's in an earthly power. I hereby state my first wish - I want you to be the carrier of banner in support of our relationship.”
Muzaka shook his head, while Frankenstein eyed Lunark as a promise of details after this.
“For the love of wolves, I bet no one can best you when it comes to stabbing my sanity at the least expected moment. How can you pull that one from under your sleeve right at...”
“So? Are you saying you can't?”
“...Of course not. I gave you my word. It only makes sense for me to keep it. But you don't need a reminder of what would happen if you so as much as even drive her to tears, do you?”
Muzaka half-heartedly laid out his warning, to which the pair responded with a beam.
A beam that ultimately urged a smile from Muzaka, which turned out to be short-lived thanks to Frankenstein's follow-up.
“And allow me to use my second wish. I need you to give Lunark holidays right now. Two months would do it.”
“Say what?! You can't demand it without any prior dis...”
“I already had a discussion. We already had one.”
“No, I meant...! Okay, sure, talking to Lunark is one thing, but you didn't discuss it with...!”
Muzaka could not even finish his words, before he pushed the palm of his hand into his forehead.
He knew nothing can beat Frankenstein when he is in his deal-with-it-for-all-I-care mode.
“No wonder Lunark is dressed like that. This is what you had in mind?”
“Obviously. Lunark's duties are not impossible at the hands of other warriors, are they? Not to mention Union can only watch themselves as the result of the recent trouble at Seoul; their manpower has already dwindled before the event. Which is why this would be the perfect time for Lunark to enjoy a vacation.”
Peaceful was his voice, but Frankenstein was basically rubbing - no, stabbing into Muzaka's face that he is more than willing to have a discussion involving fists and claws if he is not to issue a pass from the office for Lunark.
Soon enough, the werewolf lord nodded and waved his hand.
“Fine. I'll make sure Lunark's absence will not hinder us for the next two months. Now run along. Be free.”
“My gratitude, my lord.”
“Much appreciated, Lord Muzaka.”
Frankenstein and Lunark bowed and turned to leave, but then Muzaka unzipped his lips after a bit of delay.
“Lunark.”
“Yes, sir?”
A momentary silence captured Muzaka, gazing at Lunark with her body rotated halfway towards him.
“Nothing. You look beautiful today.”
Replied Muzaka, his lips curled into a somewhat nostalgic, wistfully affectionate curves.
'Ashleen... Eileen...'
As soon as Lunark and Frankenstein left with a brief smile, Muzaka scooched into his throne, to resummon the scent ghosting within his heart.
Lunark had no fear for winter or darkness, as long as she had Frankenstein with her, so she claimed.
It was reminiscent of his stance when he met Eileen. And when he had Ashleen.
A stance that was closed off into a tragedy.
Nevertheless, for some reason he could not help feeling this will not be the same for the two of them.
Which is why in reality, he had been smiling inwardly as Lunark was speaking in defense of their relationship.
And he was about to give in to their protest, which was preceded by Frankenstein's use of his wishes.
'Looks like my clan is now walking towards an actual change. Eileen... Ashleen... How I wish I could have met you two in this era.'
Regret cannot undo or do what is done or not done.
For now, the only thing he can do is to light up his hope for the future and pray for luck.
So that one day, relationship between humans and werewolves will be but part of daily life.
'I know you two can do it. So just stay the way you are, loving and beautiful.'
*****
Few days later, KSA headquarter
“What's up? I'd thought we've still got time until the departure.”
Yuigi was checking her bag for one last time, before she turned towards her visitor.
“Are you sure you won't regret this?”
“Of course I'm sure. You don't take me for some toddler, do you? I think you've gotten your standards too high, now that you're way out of the Union agents' league, including mine. You seem to have forgotten how I used to lounge at the top of the pyramid called the Union.”
“That's not what I...”
Takio could not hide his disappointment.
They had previously plotted a scenario of signing her name on the list of tenants at Frankenstein's house.
He was expectant to see her impeccably freed from the shadow of the Union, to relish an ordinary life.
And she knew what he was thinking.
Yuigi had been lost.
She had been lost between her life as Yuigi of Cerberus and her long-lost life as Raciela, like a frog unwelcome at both the earth and the water.
But now she was even convinced that the reason why she had been lost, crouched without direction and assurance, was simply to hop higher than she could ever pull off in the past.
“I'll be fine. I have found the new direction in my life. Now it's my duty to dedicate myself to my new mission and pay for my days at the Union. So don't worry and be faithful to your ordinary life. Do that for me. Besides, it's not like this is the last time we'll ever see each other. We'll be talking on designated basis, and I'll drop by whenever I need maintenance on my kits. I'll see you then.”
Takio's disquiet disappeared as he listened to her.
He was relieved.
She may not be able to take on an ordinary life, but there is no need to worry about or be sorry for her.
She just proved that she has landed upon the new agenda of her life as well as a respite of heart, and that was good enough for him.
“I like the coffee from that cafe we visited. I'll make sure to buy you back. So wait for it.”
And that was when Yuigi - that was when Raciela smiled.
For the first time, she smiled a smile full of a human heart, no longer an artificial sneer.
*****
“You ready?”
The 3rd Elder greeted Raciela upon her entrance to the KSA rooftop.
The white-haired man was donning a long coat identical to hers, hooded and furnished with a heavy backpack, surrounded by Tao, M-21, Taesik, the doctor, Yeonsu, Sangin, and Raizel, whose phone was connected live-time to Lascrea and the heads of noble clans standing in the Lord's Hall.
Then at last, the last of the gang made their arrival.
“Boss!”
“...Lunark?”
“What are you doing here...?”
Lunark's feet effortlessly glided upon the rooftop, and the 3rd Elder made a stiff, awkward recognition with his eyes, in acknowledgment of the length of hiatus in their encounters.
Pow!!!
At then the werewolf lashed out an unwarned punch, driving the man right to the edge of the building.
“M-miss Lunark! He's no longer sturdy enough to...”
“Handle my power. Yes, yes. I know. I knew that. My fist knew that. I heard how his perfection as a cyclist has been undermined, to the point that he now needs training wheels to ride a bike. Which is why I made sure you wouldn't get to hold a funeral for that guy.”
She was telling the truth, the 3rd Elder realized, as he put himself back on his feet, rubbing a side of his face.
His face did throb, so hard that he wanted to stick his hand and rummage through his head to check and see if his brain is intact.
Contrary to the pain, the only damage he suffered was abrasion that would take less than a minute for recovery.
Plus, he could see how Frankenstein was smirking behind Lunark, his arms crossed.
He and Frankenstein did have a word about his betrayal, which ended - sort of - with apology and forgiveness.
Apparently such process did not completely rinse off the grudge, and the 3rd Elder had no say in this matter.
He knew he deserved it; actually, he deserved more, he thought.
<Are you sure you will have no regrets?>
Lascrea's question chimed through the phone.
It was a rare occasion for her to start off a conversation with a voluntary question.
And not a syllable or a vowel has changed with the 3rd Elder's answer.
“I'm positive. This is what I must do. I must pay for the choice I made out of fear. And for the losses and sacrifices I called upon as a result.”
When he held Helga's hand, the 3rd Elder was full of fear.
He feared his followers' sacrifices, the Union's labor, and his tears would be wrong.
He feared his followers, the Union, and he would be wrong.
Wrong, fruitless, and in vain.
However, now he has accepted the truth.
He accepted that his followers, the Union, and he were wrong.
He accepted that he has been forcing himself to be deaf and blind to the truth that had been with him since long ago.
“The Union was originally based on the human crusade for the welfare of mankind. I admit the Union's standing point and pathway have been lethally distorted for the past few centuries. So now it's only logical to cleanse the Union's orbit and spend its final resources and manpower for what is truly meant for humans. So now there is only one thing the Union must do - making itself gone for the sake of mankind, and thereby protecting the ordinary world for the ordinary souls. And I shall take my responsibility for the past, the misdeeds, and the sin of the Union. And for the calamity at Seoul.”
Quoted the 3rd Elder, in solemn announcement of his motive for repentance.
“I'm afraid I can't set for you the date, but once the last shade of the Union is wiped off clean... I will gladly hand over my life. I know I am being more than shameless, but please, I'd like to ask you to wait until then.”
And he gave his word that he will never again betray these people.
He will never again betray the mankind.
He will never again betray himself.
The white-haired Icarus who blindly coveted the sun's position was saved from his plummet towards the sea by these people - those endeavoring to protect ordinary life - as well as the ordinary people.
The moment his steps were about to carry him off the concrete floor, the 3rd Elder whispered an addition.
“...Benjamin.”
All eyes and ears perked up at an unfamiliar name.
“It's Benjamin now. That is my true name. The name I shall answer to from now on.”
Sheepish but true, that was the smile from Benjamin.
That was the last of himself he exhibited before taking himself and Raciela away towards the horizon.
And Frankenstein was the one to break the still that lingered.
“You okay? Let me see your hand.”
He inspected her hand, his every contour and plane dripping concern.
“Aww, maybe I should have loosened up a bit. My hand stings a little.”
Lunark stage-whined, sticking out her hand free of any speck, let alone a wound.
A sight that gave the spectators an illusionary impression of watching how their sanity was being burned alive.
“We need to talk about this. When did they end up... Like that?”
“By 'like that,' are you referring to what I'm thinking?”
“Probably. Did you see his face when Miss Lunark punched Mr. Benjamin? He appeared ecstatic... And enamored. By her.”
“But is it just me, or do they actually look great together?”
After indulging in a brief moment of fluff and endearment, Frankenstein turned to face the crowd.
“Now why don't we scatter? We must go.”
“Go where?”
“Go out for our very first date.”
All listening mouths fell open at the fall of a four-character vocabulary they fathomed not even a pact with the devil could pull out from his throat.
That is, all mouths except for Raizel's lips.
Frankenstein made a serene smile as he met Raizel in the eyes, a sign that he had made his choice.
“I shall see you later, master.”
As always, Raizel responded with a gracefully breezy smile.
It did not take long for the rest of the audience to catch up with their atmosphere, curl the corners of their cheeks, and shower the two in celebration.
“To be honest, I was wondering when you two will officiate it.”
“Congratulations, Mr. Ex-Chairman.”
<Please send Lunark my regards. And those of my heads of clans.>
Not losing their focus on each other even a bit in the middle of the pleasant commotion, Lunark and Frankenstein jumped towards the streets.
*****
“Look. They're talking about the Noblesse's ex-sanctuary, aren't they?”
Lunark asked, her finger pointing a huge screen covering a facet of a building at the Gwanghwamun Square.
Frankenstein nodded after reading the headline, of the breaking news that the international environmental facilities and institutions have selected the Bermudan Treasure Chest as a special protection site, to perform and engage in extensive protection.
“Aren't you disappointed? You wanted to collect his power from that place.”
She was alluding to the proposal he made on the day she revealed the secret behind the resurrections following the nuclear missile incident.
The proposal on retrieving Raizel's power from his ex-sanctuary to replenish him was denied, due to the theory that taking away Raizel's power might lead to extinction of life at the place, since his power has already made itself a cradle, manna, and haven for the local marine creatures.
“Humans are now working together to save that place. So one day, things will settle down. Let's tell ourselves things will settle down.”
“At times like this, I feel perhaps humans are not hopelessly hopeless. Humans can be cannibalistic and destructive with their surroundings for the sake of their good, but on the other hand they know how to be altruistic and protective of the world. If I never knew you, I would have never known.”
Frankenstein gasped a laughter at her bashful comment.
“Now that's an honor. Speaking of which, I'd like to teach you more. For example, how human fare with their lives. How you can spend a daily life in the human world. What do you say?”
“Great. Please do. Teach me how humans... How a couple share an ordinary day.”
Lunark's words were confident, yet her face was blushing.
Frankenstein held her hand, his mouth arched in a gentle smile.
They knew they cannot make any promise on their future.
Just like how they did not expect the breaking news of the day.
They cannot tell what will be waiting for their discovery tomorrow. Or in an hour.
Still, they promised themselves and each other that they will devote themselves to this day to the best of their abilities.
They will hold their hands and be true to their love.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Frankenstein's and Lunark's hearts serenaded a duet of dazing flutter, as they walked into the crystal-clear sunlight illuminating their path to the ordinary life.
And the day could not be sunnier.

I’m so sorry it took much longer for me to post this chapter. I was working on another series that I’m about to submit for a competition, and I had no idea it’s way past my usual posting time. I’m terribly sorry about the delay - what a way to wrap up the series. :’(
At last... My fanfic has reached its conclusion! I posted the first chapter of this fic on April of 2020, and it took me roughly a year and 4 months to finish it. And for the first time in years, I’m having a mixture of emotions cascading upon me as I write my final postscript, including but not limited to elation, bittersweetness, ruefulness, etc.
I made a lot of discoveries on what I lack as a writer throughout my journey with this fic. I had much more stories to include on my mind (most notably the relationship between Rael and Seira) but I had to delete them all from my outline for the sake of word count and constancy with the main topic of this fic. I might recollect them and write about them as a sequel to this fic, but right now I can’t think of any plot that I would find satisfying. And it would take a long time for me to land on a storyline that I would be confident in, enough for me to compose a fic with. And as the number of chapters grew, I ended up making mistakes regarding the details and plot. I remember how with chapter 68, I didn’t notice beforehand how I made several fatal mistakes that could compromise readers’ comprehension of the story, and I had to edit it for at least 3 times. Not to mention the story got kind of loose and lost its tempo over time. I happen to be working on a separate series (which has nothing to do with Noblesse) on a Korean website, and I’m having trouble with it due to the loose contents. This fic gave me an opportunity to look back on what I need to work on as a writer, and I will certainly do that.
On the other hand, this fic did not leave me fruitless. I think I did a pretty good job and could gain a lot of experience on making story-wise allusions and references throughout chapters, to weave separate scenes together and thus bind 70 chapters into a wholesome series. Most importantly, I’m satisfied with how I could make use of and investigate my personal interpretations and creations on what was left after the final chapter of the original webtoon (such as the reason why those that were engaged in the nuclear missile incident could make it back to life, the faint-but-surely-there romance between Rai and Lascrea, the last of the Union after its destruction, and most of all the relationship between Lunark and Frankenstein).
In all, I gained a lot of regrets while writing this fic, but above all I am happy with my creation since I managed to write about everything I want in the exact way I wanted.
My tremendous gratitude for those of you who have been staying with me throughout this fic. It was not perfect, and it came with a lot of words to read, but I thank each and every one of you readers out there for visiting my fic. Although I happen to be busy with an independent project of mine, one day I’d like to bring another Noblesse fic for you, short or not.
Once again, thank you so much for enjoying my fic so far. Thank you, and that is all! :)

Arco Iris
Summary: Everyone in the Andromeda Galaxy viewed the world in shades of grey. Until they met their soulmate. The Mandalorian's quest completed, he is without purpose. Finding his soulmate might be the push he needs or it might just be another thing to run away from.
Rating: PG13 (for now)
Warnings: swearing, mentions of violence
A/N: This is not a new idea, for sure, but one I've never explored before. There will be much angst, and rating will go up as it goes along. Slow burn.
Chapter 1: Aimless
Aimless. That was the word that came to mind when Din Djarin sought to define how he felt. Aimless. No covert to provide for. No desire to fulfill his appointed destiny as ruler of Mandalore. No real drive to find a new ship and return to bounty hunting. All of those things would require effort on his part. He had the means to buy whatever ship he wanted. He had a lucrative job with Boba on Tatooine if he chose. He could be king of a whole fucking planet; the key to Mandalore lay at the bottom of a trunk in Cara Dune’s spare room. None of it mattered. Whenever he thought of doing any of these things, there was a hole there, it’s shape distinct and fathomless. Finding the rest of his people felt like the most viable option. He’d found the kid’s people, now he should find his. But that would require effort. Effort to forget, effort to step past that gaping hole that sought to swallow him. A swirling, sucking black hole, it was, seeking to pull him in and in and in until it crushed him. He hovered outside its gravity, not caring if he tipped over the edge, though not bothering to leap in either. Aimless.
That’s where he found himself, roaming the streets of Nevarro, an hour to kill before he had to pick up a cart of supplies for the magistrate from the landing pad outside the town. The day was bright and clear, cloudless as far as the eye could see. The market was just opening, fresh faces setting up for the day, smiling and calling out greetings to one another as they placed tables and baskets on the packed clay earth. They paid him no mind; he was a familiar sight these days, the Mandalorian from Nevarro. He was neither feared nor hated. He just was.
His feet had taken him to a familiar market stall, where an old man was being sat down in a rickety chair just outside his dwelling. A young woman in light grey robes easing the aged figure into the seat with practiced and loving hands. The man held a staff, it’s top third wrapped in leather, his face a rictus of pain, deepening the sulci of his wrinkled and time-work skin. Din came to stand in front of the man, casting a long shadow over him. The man smiled warmly and held out a withered hand.
“Mando! To what do I owe the pleasure! It’s been a long time my son!”
“Ezekiel. It has been awhile. I’ve been away on business.” Din offered, taking the man’s hand in both of his.
The woman who had helped Ezekiel to sit was raising the dwelling’s awning behind him, providing more shade.
“Business, of course. I received that Krayt skin you sent from Tatooine. Gorgeous, just beautiful! Now perhaps you’ll tell me the real story.” Ezekiel leaned in to Din with a conspiratorial edge to his voice. His milky, blind eyes crinkled with mirth.
Din’s shoulders shook with a snicker that didn’t quite make it through the vocoder in his helmet. “My message told the whole story Zeke. Killed it from the inside out, I swear!” Din patted the old man’s hand affectionately.
Ezekiel snatched his hand away, affronted. “Now you can’t lie to old Ezekiel!” He pointed an accusing finger at Din. “And if that’s the story, there’s no way I’m letting you give me this treasure. It ain’t every day a man gets swallowed by a Krayt Dragon and lives to tell the tale, now.” Ezekiel sat back in his chair. “Now, what can I do you for, Mando?”
Din smiled beneath the helmet, but outwardly he just shook his head in amusement. Ezekiel was likely the oldest resident of Nevarro, a leather-smith by trade who made his living by making the finest gloves, holsters, bandoliers and other leather goods outside of Naboo. His weathered and arthritic hands were a testament to how hard he worked, refusing to resort to droids and machines to do the intricate sewing and forming and sculpting animal hides into usable items.
“I lost my ship some months ago. I need to replace my secondary gear. All I have is what I have on me.” Din said quietly.
Ezekiel shook his head in sympathy, tutting. “Ain’t that something. Sorry to hear it, son.” Ezekiel scratched under his lip. “You have a list?”
“I do.” Din pulled out a piece of flimsi. It was worn, having been folded and refolded, written on and crossed out over and over again.
Ezekiel motioned for the woman who had assisted him to sit, who was now standing by the open door to their home, watching the exchange. “Have you met my granddaughter?” Ezekiel smiled up at Mando as the woman approached, pride and affection radiating off the elderly man. “Sera, this is Mando. Mando, this is my Serafim.”
For a moment, Din couldn’t move. The woman in the light grey cloak appeared to be a void, her skin was so dark. Her hair was only slightly lighter than her skin, hanging in dreadlocks adorned with silver bands, shells and beads. Only the pouty bow of her mouth and her impossibly light grey eyes cut through the coal black of her skin. While her expression was not unkind, it was hard as she held out her hand for the list Din held.
“Hello. Serafim.” Din replied with a start. He handed the list over, letting it slip through his fingers. He watched as she took it, her own hand a dichotomy of dark and light, her palm several shades lighter than the skin of wrist and arm. The contrast of the silver cuff she wore even more stark as it glinted in the sun.
“Mando.” Serafim’s smile was thin and didn’t reach her eyes.
“I’m getting old and I’ll be moving on soon. Sera will take over here when I’m gone.” Ezekiel spoke as if he would be going on an extended vacation, rather than his impending death from old age. “Oh! I almost forgot!” Ezekiel made to rise. “I have your last order in the back. Rancor leather, pair of gloves. Been gatherin dust.”
Serafim put a hand on Ezekiel’s shoulder. “I’ll get them, Papa.” She helped Ezekiel ease back into the seat once again and disappeared into the house without a glance back to the Mandalorian.
“I’ll be sure to get on that list. Sera will be my apprentice, if that’s alright.” Ezekiel smiled.
“That will be fine.” Din agreed in his signature stoic manner.
Around Ezekiel’s stall, more of the market was coming to life, banners waving in the wind, all shades and textures advertising food, electronics, weapons and household items. Some of the higher-end shops boasted their wears with neon signs that shone even in the day, offsetting their message with brightness against the dull grey of their tinted windows, the transperisteel a darker shade to give it contrast.
“Here you are Papa.” Serafim held out a small package to Ezekiel who simply gestured to the Mandalorian.
“Well, have him try them on.” he said.
Serafim held the paper-wrapped bundle out to Din. He took it from her hand and laid it on the table between them, unwrapping it. Mid-grey leather gloves lay folded in the paper, the scent of the curing lotion wafting up and permeating the air even through the filters in his helmet. Din pulled off his own gloves and set them aside, pulling on the new gloves. He wriggled his hand in them, the leather feeling stiff. “Seems small.” He mumbled.
“They need to be worked in. Sera, help the man out.” Ezekiel instructed.
Sera huffed through her nose, displeased, but reached over the table nonetheless. Din held out his arm to her. Sera pulled off the glove and turned it almost inside out before reaching over and clasping her hand around Din’s wrist.
It was a punch to the gut that knocked the wind out of both of them. Blazing white light burst behind their eyes and then the world was flooded with color. The banners blowing in the breeze, the rich clay of the earth, Din’s orange gloves, Sera’s deep soil-dark skin and impossibly blue eyes. Sera was touching a live wire and couldn’t let go. Neon green bakery signs and red banners, purple baskets and colors neither had a name for flooded their senses until Din took a step back and Sera let go of his wrist.
Gasping for air, both Sera and Din heaved in lungfuls of precious oxygen, gripping the table between them.
“What did you do?” Din choked out.
“Color? Is this... color?” Sera asked.
Beside them, Ezekiel had taken in the brief exchange with curiosity. Now, he understood. A smile crept over his face as Din and Sera regained their equilibrium. “Well, I’ll be damned.”

red;green
Blood is spinning against my skull, the friction is palpable on my sulci.
Lately I want to scream. I want my voice distressing like a seagull that will vomit its torn lungs onto your doorstep.
I want to stomp down the streets and flail my arms around and yodel. I want people to shake as I approach. NOW will you see me?
Red is for when I'm alive. Red like a flare of hair, like the innards of a throat, like my blood when it's finally free. The great mosquito is harvesting my insides and I would rather see them go spalsh. I slash the tube plunged between my ribs and let the red spew onto the pavement, a blazing tattered flag at my feet. Viva! I will get my hands hot and wet.
Every word you say is a burning coal I swallow, they hiss as they scorch my flesh. Not anymore. I am full and loaded, I will now spit that fire back at you. I want to burst into flames and take you down with me. I want to make enough noise to drown out every second of silence. I will put my hot teeth to your ear flap and scream until my throat gives out, DO YOU SEE ME? DO YOU SEE ME? DO YOU SEE ME?
I want to march past your house flailing banners with bleeding letters yelling my pain at you. A one-punk riot to shatter your ignorance and your living room windows.
Will you notice me then? Will you remember for more than a second? Will you close your eyes again? Will you call me what I'm not again? Will you push me back into the background?
***
I slip through the cracks. I will surface in marshy waters. Green scum will coat my lips and my eyelids, and I will not move them. I will fill my nostrils with humid smells, my lungs with heavy fog. There will be enough liquid in my chest to nearly drown me. I will let my hair loose; the world will touch it with paint-stained fingers and tint it green. I will float freely and make no sound. Convention and definition will be no more. Muck will stick to my skin, I will be pulled and blurred into the running colors. All will be thick and fluid. All will be green.
But only when I am alone.
