i’m catching up on tsv, i think something that eskew prod does extremely well is using horror absurdism to capture the absurd horror of capitalism. it’s clear in eskew too, but i think it’s especially fantastic in the silt verses. the casualness with which sacrifice is discussed. how red lobster has a god that has and continues to take human sacrifice, and so do cereal companies, cops, and the grueling start up that has a “fun room”. it captures EXTREMELY well how it feels to live under capitalism, that you’re constantly bombarded with horrible things, discussed cheerily in a nice tone. the way it’s simultaneously numbing, hysterical, and horrifying. i think i was especially fond of how in ep 39, protest against sacrifice was taken as radical, a propostorus, idealistic thing that’s just so SILLY it’s not even worth considering, something that feels very real to revolutionary organizing/protest irl. i also liked how despite the face, when everything gets down to it, when everything is about profit, all people come down to are bodies. all capitalism is a gaping maw, and it eats the poor and marginalized first, but doesn’t STOP eating just there. the very literalized version of this, where the profit wheel (and all that includes— war mongering, the prison industrial complex, wage labor, etc) is given a very real literal set of teeth, but the body count is the same. so the electric company has a god, and so it takes humans sacrifice. do real electric companies not have a very real human cost? overworked and underpaid labors looking to make rent, or well off comfortable employees no less likely to get the axe under profit margins, or the blood shed when colonizing in the first place, in clearing the space for the electric company to move in. is that not also a very real human sacrifice? the commercial aimed at elderly people talking about “back in my day, we would just talk about all this human sacrifice and find a compromise :)” is so bleakly hysterical, but is that not very accurate? that you can put a good face on it, but in the end what it comes down to is that you’re being sold the chance to be human fodder? that there is no glory or honor on a battlefield or in working yourself to death, just mud and shit and bodies to throw at problems. idk! i’m rambling but it’s a deeply engaging podcast.

raph was never any less suited to leadership than leo
raph was never any less suited to leadership than leo
raph was N E V E R any less suited to leadership than leo
idk how many times i can say it before it sinks in that in rise there was never once any point where that was the point being made
if you just like leo’s character better than you like raph’s, that’s fine! if you just like it better when leo is leader, that’s fine! i have no issue!
but we need to stop trying to circle that leadership change back to somehow being about better or worse or ~more cut out for it~ because it sucks to throw the great job raph did through the series under the bus in order to prop up leo’s good qualities.
they’re both great leaders. they both have strong suits and weak suits in the role, they both have growth and development when they’re in that role. they BOTH make on-screen mistakes in that role and aren’t very good at it at first! not getting a more in-depth explanation about it in the movie or series stinks and it’s very interesting to explore, but seriously.

not specifically oc related but my headcanon is that since magic and alchemy are such broad disciplines in tes, hrt can get super granular. pop by your local specialist for a custom-made cocktail of only the effects you want in your transition. ''give me mild face and arm hair, moderate bottom growth, just a pinch of fat distribution, hold the atrophy cause i still wanna use that shit'' etc
god what i would GIVE to have access to such a thing

One of my favorite things about being a fan of smaller things is getting to watch them grow. Like not in a “I found this before it was cool” way but in a “this was always really cool and it’s a blast to get to see people discover it” way.

The growth! 🥺❤️🥺❤️🥺❤️
From Buddy Daddies Episode 1:
Tumblr media
Kazuki and Rei are eating dinner. Kazuki made a dish that was a little spicy. Rei isn’t a big fan of spice and let Kazuki know that. But, Kazuki still made it anyway. After Rei’s eaten a bite of the food, Kazuki says to him, “See? Not too spicy like that, is it?” and then asks, “It’s good, right?”
Rei replies:
Tumblr media
“It’s decent.” That’s what he tells him. And Kazuki just says:
Tumblr media
“You’re so depressing to cook for,” with a sigh.
Jump to Episode 8, Rei’s birthday.
Tumblr media
Kazuki and Miri made a big whole meal for Rei, and most of the food are things that Rei likes: pizza, fried chicken, hamburgers, French fries, etc., but there are some healthy things mixed in here and there, likely things Kazuki knows Rei will like and eat (there are tomatoes on the pizza, but it could be that Rei likes those types of tomatoes, rather than grape or cherry ones, or that he is okay with them on pizza). My dad has a very similar food preferences as Rei does, except for the broccoli (he would be fine with like green peppers or something though).
We don’t get to see him eat the food or comment on it in-series. Though by his expressions, we can see the realization and appreciation that he has for what Kazuki and Miri made and put together for him:
Tumblr media
His shocked face when he really takes in all the food and cake that Kazuki and Miri spent their whole day making for him.
Tumblr media
And his continued smile and look of appreciation as Kazuki indicates for him to blow out the candles on his cake, which Rei readily agrees to do. Kazuki has a smile on his face too, and the whole time he and Miri were making all the food and decorations was a good and fun time for them. They did a lot of bonding and it was worth it.
Finally, in the Special section of the Buddy Daddies website, we have Rei’s sticky note where he says:
Tumblr media
“Thank you.” And that is a thank you for everything. Even, likely, that Episode 1 dinner. Rei’s growth has been wonderful in this regard, as has Kazuki’s. Since we see that Kazuki has grown here too. He is no longer making only food he likes or only food he thinks is good for Rei to eat and forcing him to do so, instead, he is acknowledging the foods Rei likes and making those for him. This results in Kazuki having a far less depressing time cooking for Rei. ❤️

Loki is KILLING me rn because all of Loki and Sylvie’s conversations are rushed and dealing with like three catastrophic things at once and what I wouldn’t give for these two to be put into a locked broom closet for four hours. That’s plenty of time for trying and failing to get out, a long conversation, AND some sex.

things i would change in lita if i were in charge:
put Rain in a dorm room instead of living at home
a large part of why Phayu/Rain doesn't work for me is because we don't get to see Rain develop on his own...ever, really. he's in college, but he's living at home, living off his parents' money, still updating his mom on his where abouts like he's in high school. he goes from being closely entwined with/dependent on them to being highly dependent on Phayu. Phayu/Rain didn't come off as "Rain's making stupid and risky decisions but that's part of growing up," which i would've enjoyed, it comes off as ".....no, seriously Rain, can you make this decision?"
moving Rain into a dorm would've given him some much needed independence. even if though he would've still been reliant on his parents financially, there's still the growth that comes from being away from your parents' daily influence, managing your own space, managing your own personal well-being, etc. that would've been Rain's starting point for independent growth. vs canon, where Rain's start in independent growth was an intensely sexual relationship with a highly independent guy (nooot really anything i'm comfortable with myself). Rain can enjoy being coddled/spoiled/etc (which i like! good for him!), but the writers never gave him a chance to figure out who he was on his own, so the relationship as is doesn't land for me :/
more Phayu interacting with the garage family
i really like the glimpses of Phayu's character that we get. he has a lot of contradictions that look like so much fun to explore, but his characterization often gets shuffled to the side in favor of kink. the most interesting Phayu scenes are always the ones where it's not just him and Rain which......really sucks. the Prapai/Sky sex scenes reveal a lot about them as individual characters as well as how they interact with each other. Phayu/Rain sex scenes kinda touch on how they act together, but the main thing they do is tell me more than i want to know about the writers' personal kinks. hell, most of what Rain learns about Phayu as a person is discovered through other people--which is really annoying! i want to be learning more about this guy through his interactions with Rain, not primarily the gossip other people tell Rain. that doesn't happen until like, ep6-7, which is the literal end of their personal arc and mostly spent away from each other. sighs.
more Saifah
quality character, highly underutilized. i love his eyerolls, but the writers never really did much with him to bring him past that point :( i can extrapolate a lot, but canon developed Sig in the second half of the show more than they did Saifah for all of it. Saifah is Phayu's literal twin brother and business partner, and some random architect student got more of a character than him. this is not a complaint on Sig, i fucking adore that guy, but it's a bizarre writing choice.
more kidnapping aftermath
seriously. what the fuck. TWO kidnapping scenarios, the entire reason why i watched this show, and you guys couldn't cut out any of the 1905t59488993e repeated scenes to give me more than 2 minutes of kidnapping aftermath? who the fuck even cares about trucks driving on roads
things i would not change in lita if i were in charge:
Chai showing up to rescue Phayu and Rain wearing a zebra print shirt. sensational. 10/10, no notes

Finally getting around to watching the Sign. Lemme just say that “reincarnated soul mates” thing is doing a lot of heavy lifting for Phaya and Tharn’s relationship plot chemistry (outside the actors, of course)
