THE BEST REUSABLE COFFEE CUPS FOR YOUR TAKE-AWAY COFFEE
Tumblr media
The combination of form, functionality and eco-friendliness makes these cups worth holding on to. Recycling has become a hot-button issue for many Australians. Between the exposés on recycled goods ending up in landfill and the hard truths around the unsustainable volume of waste we generate, the general consensus is that separating your rubbish is no longer enough: we need to cut down our consumption of plastics, period. Coffee cups are an easy – and necessary – place to start: it's estimated that more than three billion take-away coffee cups are sold in Australia each year, many of them non-recyclable. The solution, of course, is a reusable coffee cup. Lucky for you, now more than ever, there are plenty of beautiful cups to choose from; some even pay for your coffee for you. And, in another win for the planet, many reusable cups are made locally. The hardest decision is which to make a part of your daily routine. Numbered clockwise from left below: 1 Pretty in Pink handmade ceramic cup from Pottery for the Planet 2 Nia reusable cup from Country Road 3 Sandy Planet handmade ceramic cup from Pottery for the Planet 4 Mystic Mauve cup from Sol Cups 5 Ceramic cup in Aqua from Claycups 6 To Go Click in Soft Lavender, by Stelton from The DEA Store 7 Brew Cork edition from Keep Cup 8 Next Generation Visa payWave in Cool Grey base from Frank Green ------ Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

What to do instead of a balloon release?
Tumblr media
🎈 Flying Wish papers
The premise of a balloon release is to ‘let go’ so if you want to release something into the sky then a much less harmful thing to do is to write down messages on wish paper and then set them alight. It’s a small amount of ash and the paper will float into the sky.
🎈 Floating Flowers   Another way to give you the sense of letting go is to send something down a river or into the sea. To be eco-friendly though you want to be using natural materials. A really beautiful thing to do is to send flowers or petals down the river.
🎈 Seedballs   If you really want to be eco-friendly give everyone some seedballs. When the flowers come up it’ll be a lovely reminder of your loved one.
🎈 Plant a tree   Or why not plant a tree in someones honour? It’s also a lovely place you can visit when you want to remember that person, and over the years the tree will provide life to birds and insects and other wildlife. A true circle of life feeling. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

How do you make your favorite snacks zero waste?
Tumblr media
Having snacks on hand definitely takes a little more planning and prep than simply buying something from the vending machine. To avoid re-creating the wheel, use the list below to stock snack supplies and ingredients in your pantry so you're not caught with the munchies and nothing to nibble on. 1. Energy Bites Rather than trying to make crunchy granola bars, these energy bites don't need to be cooked at all. They can also be easily adapted to gluten-free, nut-free, and vegan. Keep on hand: oatmeal, peanut butter, chia seeds, flax seeds, honey nuts 2. Popcorn Popcorn is another great zero waste snack because it can be whipped up so quickly! And then taken with you in a little bag. You can top your popcorn with butter + salt + nutritional yeast for my favorite combo. Leep on hand: popcorn kernels, nutritional yeast, salt, coconut oil or butter 3. Frozen Muffins You will love making a big batch of muffins and then pop them in the freezer, take one out anytime you are rushed in the morning or wanting a snack. By freezing them, it prolongs their "life" as well since as tempted to eat them all at once. 4. Zucchini Bread Similarly to muffins, make zucchini bread to then freeze. It is also a great recipe to make in the summer when your zucchini plants produce so much zucchini it's impossible to consume it all! You can switch it up by also making banana bread, carrot bread, or a combo of all three! Stylish and Sustainable Ways to Wrap Gifts
Tumblr media
1. Make Typographic Gift Wrap The award for best gift tag alternative, best use of old books, and best avoidance of candy cane wrapping paper goes to: DIY Typographic Gift Wrap. 2. Perform Magic with Scraps and Bits An old paper bag, toilet paper rolls, sweetgum fruit from a tree on my street, collaged magazine pages, Joss paper, and found ribbon. 3. Borrow from Nature We don't need plastic bows and pompoms when we have trees that drop their own pompoms on the ground for us to use. Think pine sprigs, pine cones, seed pods, dried flowers, little branches, et cetera. 4. DIY Plantable Flower Seed Paper Although making your own paper isn't as easy as unrolling a sheet from a tube, this tutorial makes it a pretty simple process: DIY Plantable Flower Seed Paper. 5. Get Crafty With a Bag There's a natural tendency to want to wrap with brown paper bags; stamps the paper first, but them sews it together with a festive zig-zag! No tape, no ribbon, totally cute. 6. Raid Your Desk If you have an abundance of odds and ends in your office supply drawer, you'd be surprised at how nicely they can come to your assistance when gift wrapping. 7. Go Furoshiki For the days before the single-use plastic shopping bag, when people would use fabric to create their satchels. The traditional Japanese art of wrapping and carrying goods in cloth, Furoshiki, works splendidly for gifts. -------------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

7 not-so-obvious tips for people who want to be a little more eco 💚
Tumblr media
This isn’t an inclusive list, just a brief one where I haven’t included public urinators! 👉 1. Implement a plant-base day! You might not be able to go vegan or vegetarian (it isn't for everyone), but can you implement a meat-free day? 👉 2. Look after your health (physical & mental) This one might be a little bit of a luxury, particularly if you live in a food desert. But maintaining your health is super important. Also don't feel bad for taking medication or getting vaccianted! Or for using standard old toothpaste. If your cavities will cause more waste than a tube of toothpaste very few months. 👉 3. Meal prep Eating out all the time can be expensive and particularly now since a lot of places aren't acceting containers, there's a fork load of waste with eating takeaway. Meal prepping is a great way to save money and if can help reduce your waste. 👉 4. Start composting Again can be considered bit of a luxury, but composting important. It's probably been my biggest "helper" in reducing my waste. If you don't have a rcom for a compost there are apps lihe "Sharewaste" that can hook you up with people nearby who have one. 👉 5. Don't be a dick I mean if's okay if you have one! But don't be a horrible human being. You are going to win more people over with kindness fthan you are yelling in their faces. Sure, the yelling worhs for some people. But for most, mahing a sustainable lifestyle seem apprcachable is key. We want everyone to get on board. 👉 6. Reduce "Standby power mode" Leaving your devices such as your IV or PC on standby can account for about 3 per cent of your energy bill. Switching your devices off can save power and money in long run. 👉 7. Use LED light bulbs Not only do LED light bulbs last longer than conventional bulbs, they're more efficient too! This means that you'll using less power and the need to replace your light bulbs will occur less frequently. ------ Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

Buying Secondhand Clothes is Awesome
Tumblr media
There are plenty of reasons why you should buy secondhand clothing, many of which actually benefit you personally, no matter your lifestyle. Buying secondhand clothes also benefits the environment in a big way, making it a win-win. 1. Buying second-hand clothing saves money. As you probably already know, you can save an incredible amount of money shopping for secondhand clothes. 2. You extend a garment’s life-cycle. 3. Buying used promotes sustainable fashion. Another reason why you should buy secondhand clothing is that it promotes sustainable fashion. Buying secondhand clothing is a big part of the slow fashion movement and a key factor when you’re starting to create a sustainable wardrobe. A sustainable wardrobe is filled with secondhand clothing and/or clothing made by slow fashion brands, both of which do wonders for the environment. 4. Secondhand clothing is unique. If you want one-of-a-kind clothing, shopping secondhand is a great way to get them. 5. Buying used clothing saves resources. When shopping secondhand clothing, you’re saving resources and doing the environment a solid favor. 6. Reduces fast fashion demand. When you purchase secondhand clothing instead of buying new from retailers, you’re reducing the demand for fast fashion. 7. Another man’s trash… Is another man’s treasure. This saying holds true for secondhand clothing as well. 8. It’s easier to shop secondhand. In second-hand clothing stores, everything is usually sorted by size, making it a breeze when searching for clothes to buy. 9. Secondhand clothes last longer. Some of these clothes were created before fast fashion started becoming so widespread. Since they are pre-fast fashion, they are better made and meant to stand the test of time. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

5 SIMPLE CHANGES TO MOVE YOU CLOSER TO A PLASTIC-FREE HOME
Tumblr media
1. Be a Mindful Grocery Shopper A huge amount of plastic comes home with you in your shopping bags — sometimes even the bags themselves! Be aware of packaging as you shop — bring reusable produce bags or avoid them entirely, choose plastic-free packaging wherever possible. 2. Search Out Plastic Alternatives Virtually every plastic item you bring into your home has a counterpart made of wood, metal, or another natural material. Plastic step stools can be passed up in favor of step stools made of wood — or bamboo! Use metal, wooden, or bamboo cooking utensils instead of plastic ones. 3. Stay Organized A plastic-free home can still be a meticulously organized one, even without individually-labelled plastic totes and plastic bins. Use jars in the pantry, natural wicker or rattan baskets instead of plastic bins in the hall closet and the playroom, and cardboard file boxes for storage. 4. Clean Up — Naturally! Making your own cleaning products means you can avoid buying and throwing out so many plastic bottles of cleaning solutions. Just keep a few of your old bottles for your natural, home-made cleaners. Use natural-bristle brooms and brushes and washable cloths instead of plastic brooms and scrubbers. 5. Take It Slowly There are so many ways to go plastic-free and so many tiny things in your power to change that it’s hard for me to stop this list! Once you get going, it can be really exciting to discover all of the innovative, eco-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing plastic-free alternatives out there. Take it slowly, only purchase what you need, and take one step at a time. --------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life ! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

7 ways to host an eco-friendly kids party  (Part 2)
Tumblr media
🎉 Candles   Unfortunately those traditional birthday candles that go on the cake? Typically made from paraffin wax, candles are a petroleum product. They also produce a number of byproducts when burned that are harmful for the environment and for us. So go beeswax. Beeswax candles are becoming increasingly popular and available in the form of birthday candles, decorative candles and more!
🎉 Using food as decoration   This is a great way to decorate your food/dessert table without using anything disposable. The food will get eaten so no waste at all! Reducing food waste is another great way to host a more eco-friendly kids party. Take your theme and display your food in a creative way to fit.
🎉 Gifts   How often do you throw a birthday party and end up with WAY too many gifts. It can be so overwhelming. You could suggest that several family members club together for a wooden train set, bicycle, climbing frame or other items which you know will give your children (or indeed your grandchildren) pleasure for years to come. For an older child, a gift voucher gift to their favorite restaurant can be fun, so that they can invite a friend or two out for dinner. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

7 ways to host an eco-friendly kids party (Part 1)
Tumblr media
🎉 Cups, plates & utensils   This one is the biggest culprit of one-time use plastics. Even when using paper, most party plates and cups have a plastic coating on them. The best thing you can do is to use reusable cups, plates and utensils. You can use your everyday dishes. These will require washing but it really is worth it for the amount of trash reduction! If you can’t fathom washing them, get bamboo or compostable plates & cups.
🎉 Tablecloths   No more of those thin plastic tablecloths, they don’t even look very good because they always have creases in them that you can’t get out. Use real fabric table cloths. If you don’t want to invest in a table cloth, you can also use bed sheets. Use white or a solid coloured top sheet to match your colour theme. Fabric stores also normally have bins of scrap fabric that you can look through. You might be able to find a large enough piece of sequinned or patterned fabric for the perfect themed tablecloth or table runner.
🎉 Invitations   Go digital! Ditch the paper invites and email digital invitations instead. Switching to digital invites is a super easy way to create a more eco-friendly kids party because of the numerous platforms that offer them online. Just add your guest list, details and pick a design and off they go. Tracking the number of guests is a breeze so you can easily estimate how much food you will.
🎉 Reusable Decorations   Try rice paper lanterns in a variety of colours that can be reused over and over. Pom-pom garlands or fabric banners are also a great way of creating reusable decor in place of tissue paper pom-poms or streamers. Use jars to glass bowls filled with sand and sea shells for an under the sea adventure or grasses and ferns from your garden in your jungle themed display. Get your kid’s toys involved too! This also works great when using toy trucks for a construction theme or teddy’s for a teddy bear picnic. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!

6 ALL-NATURAL CLEANING PRODUCTS FOR EVERY ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE
Tumblr media
New to making your own cleaning solutions? Here are a few simple ways to get started. 1. Dish Soap: Adding essential oil to unscented castile soap can help take the drudgery out the ordeal. You can add 10 drops of lavender oil and 10 drops of tea tree oil to 20 ounces (600 ml) of castile soap and then decant into a simple glass bottle with a pour spout for keeping on your countertop. 2. Glass Cleaner: Equal parts white vinegar and water combined with a few drops of citrus essential oil makes for a very easy glass cleaner. Use crumpled newspapers to wipe down the windows and keep them lint-free. 3. Wooden Floor Cleaner: Combine equal parts white vinegar and water with a hearty portion of peppermint oil. Add the mixture to a spray bottle and spray as you mop. For a heavy-duty mopping job, add a small amount of castile soap to a bucket of warm water and add peppermint essential oil. 4. Greasy Pot Rescue: Add a hearty dash of baking soda to a still-warm pot and add water. Let it sit while you eat and return to a much easier scrub job. If you forget to take the proactive approach, add the baking soda and a few cups of boiling water to a cooled pan. 5. Sink Cleaner: Pour ¼ cup (30 g) baking soda and ½ cup (120 ml) vinegar into your sink, and add a few drops of your favorite fresh-scented essential oil. The mixture will create a satisfying sudsy foam like from elementary school science experiments. Wipe down with a sponge or brush and rinse with warm water. 6. Sticky Residue Remover: Combine equal parts baking soda and coconut oil to make a thick paste. Apply mixture directly to the sticky residue you’re hoping to remove and work at it with a warm cloth rag. The residue should come right off with a little elbow grease. ------- Visit our website: https://zerowasteinitiative.com/ Source: Internet 🌳 Zero Waste Initiative - Less Trash More Life! 🌏 Let's Save The World While There's Still Time!
