#as a younger teen i used to do this a lot#i did it because i hated feeling the guilt of doing something wrong#and taking responsibility for it made me feel ashamed#so i'd put myself down in hopes that the person i hurt would instead comfort and reassure me#instead of continuing to try and get me to make up for what i've done#i'm happy i've grown out of that but it's still important to keep this in mind#bc there are plenty of older people who still do this
