Sub-Mariner #38-40: Dorma Aftermath (feat. Spider-Man)
This is an odd handful of issues, and I had an odd time reading them. Pardon me while I break from my usual format and shove all my thoughts into one very long post.
Believe it or not, Spider-Man lurks beneath this readmore. It’s the first time Namor and Spidey have crossed over in one of their mainline books (not counting Marvel Team Up), and surprise! I had a lot to say about it.
Sub-Mariner #38 is a “special origin issue” that switches between recapping Namor’s past and scenes of Namor grieving and attending Dorma’s funeral in the present. It ends with Namor abdicating the throne of Atlantis and heading for parts unknown (but implied to be the surface world).

It’s a weird time to be doing a flashback episode, but maybe they’re treating the death of Dorma like a “season finale” of sorts. It makes sense to catch new readers up before bringing them in on the ground floor of a new batch of stories, but I wish it had been fully focused on Dorma and the consequences of her death.
Sub-Mariner #39 seems to support the “new season” idea, with Namor moving to the surface in the most Namor way possible: isolating himself on an abandoned prison island within shouting distance of New York and using his bare hands to carve it into an extremely conspicuous vacation palace overnight.

Naturally, the US Navy ends up detonating the whole island rather than let Namor stay there. Even though he publicly announced that his only goal was getting over the murder of his wife, AND he offered to pay for his use of the abandoned structures.

I read both issues in a sort of fugue state. The story was progressing very logically from one beat to the next, but to me it somehow felt completely unmoored from reality at the same time. It’s like both Namor and the narrative were going through the motions of what should happen next in the Adventures of the Sub-Mariner, and his misery was a foregone conclusion.
Speaking of things being unmoored from reality, Sub-Mariner #40 starts and HOLY SHIT IT’S SPIDER-MAN

Full disclosure, if I wasn’t both a Spider-Man fan AND in a weird place emotionally after Dorma dying, I might not have liked this issue. Normally this alone would’ve been enough to draw my ire:

Especially since the recap explains almost nothing. Meaning that if I hadn’t had the means to read Daredevil #77, I would have no clue why Spider-Man, a character Namor has not met once in this series, is here.
So to recap, an extremely simplified version of Daredevil #77: A meteor lands in Manhattan, and Daredevil, Spider-Man, and Namor show up to investigate. They all start fighting over a misunderstanding, as is custom. Then the wand-wielding woman emerges from the meteor and abducts Namor (the person she was here for) and Spider-Man (she just liked the cut of his jib).
I feel like the writers were cooking a little by bringing these three together, as they’re all at emotional low points in their stories after the death of or separation from someone close to them (in Spidey’s case, both). But there’s a real missed opportunity here: the person Peter just lost is Captain Stacy, and Gwen Stacy’s death happens just two years after this! It wouldn’t really work for the role Spidey has to play in Sub-Mariner #40, but now I wish we could’ve seen Namor and Peter commiserating over their respective partners being murdered by a green-skinned lunatic with a grudge against them. Weird that it’s happened twice, right?
The plot of #40 is…a lot, exposition-wise, and that’s not really what I want to focus on. So to summarize again: Wand Lady is the princess of a kingdom of telepaths, and she picked up Namor to fight off a buff, psychic madman who wants to marry her and take over.
But like I said, what I ACTUALLY want to focus on is my two favorite characters being forced to spend time together. Starting with Spider-Man ACTUALLY STANDING UP FOR NAMOR!

This was so refreshing! Usually when Namor is called upon as the Prince of Atlantis to undertake some kind of dangerous quest, there’s no one around to question it or ask what he wants…except maybe Dorma, and she’s gone now. In addition to being a good old fashioned “Peter treating superhumans like people” moment, I think it was really important for Namor, who’s recently taken a serious dive into self-loathing, to have someone treat him like a person with autonomy who’s feelings matter—even if it’s someone he doesn’t know that well, and even though he decided to help the princess out anyway.

Namor is acting weirdly sedate in this issue, and it’s hard not to read it as him being depressed. What I like is that while Spidey is WIGGING OUT about being abducted and tries to spur Namor into action, he doesn’t necessarily get angry at Namor for not doing anything about it. He mostly seems concerned that Namor is acting so out of character.

I like to think that even though Namor isn’t very forthcoming about exactly what’s going through his head, Peter can tell and is trying to be supportive without prying or being patronizing. After all, he’s just suffered a traumatic loss of his own, one that he also blames himself for.

All in all, this is just…not what I expected from a Sub-Mariner and Spider-Man crossover. In a good way! Weirdly enough, I think Peter is kind of the perfect person to tag along with Namor right now. Peter can be rash and has a habit of jumping to conclusions, sure. But he’s kind and empathetic to his core, he’s more of a lighthearted character than Namor is on principle, and in this issue it seems like Peter understands what Namor needs from him in a way only another recently bereaved person can.
The sad part is that it seems like Namor appreciates this…but it can’t last, because Spidey has three other mags to star in Namor has to continue on his quest to find his father (who Diane Arliss revealed might be alive at the end of #39).

I really wonder what could have been if Namor had stuck around New York a little longer. Forged a deeper friendship with a surface dwelling hero who can relate to some of what he’s been through, and who’s come to trust and accept him based on his actions, not his power or heritage. If Namor had been around for the death of Gwen Stacy and helped Spidey through that, while also getting a new perspective on Dorma’s demise. Perhaps Namor would end up being kinder to himself about the whole thing if he saw a friend going through something so eerily similar.
I think this bizarre little diversion was exactly what I needed to get back on track with the main story. These two are a strange matchup, but it’s honestly just fun to watch them exist around each other and read Peter’s snappy dialogue bouncing off of Namor’s Fire Emblem speak. Really hoping they team up again at some point, but not holding my breath!

I forgot (if i ever really knew, honestly) that atlantis was originally in antarctica. But I'm assuming it was set there in the original 40s comics? Either way, it's nice that we get a history lesson on atlantis (particularly because i didn't know any of this). And now i understand why namor's mom died: the surface dwellers inadvertently killed her. (Tales to Astonish #96):
#namor#namor the sub mariner#marvel#i didn't know anything too intensive about namor's backstory#especially since i've never gotten to read his 40s comics before#atlantis marvel#princess fen#reading comics#marvel comics#marvel universe#marvel 616

Squid Game Characters if they're teachers and students. Headcanons!! Part 1
You're here: Part 1 The Teachers.
Not posted yet: Part 2 The students.
Not posted yet: Part 3 The Staff and Others.
Squid Game Masterlist
Tw: Language, Incorrect Stuff, Poor English and I'm Dyslexic LOL
Names are in bold - subjects they teach or work
The Teachers:
Oh Il-nam - Headmaster /Principal
He owns the school, like literally Lol. Always in his office and barely seen. But he does get along with the staff and often invites them for dinner after work hours.
Hwang In-ho - Psychology, Humanities, Communication skills, Debate , Pre-calculus and Calculus. Teaches in both elementary to highschool departments. (Secretly the deputy headmaster)
Strict teacher #1. The students fear him. And obviously HATES him. Only 40% of students get high grades from him. A terror but he is great at teaching.
Very strict at the start but goes a little soft once you get to know him, also gets soft when Mr. Gi-hun is mentioned. He's so great at teaching Psychology, that it's scary. His manipulation, gaslighting and lying skills are wild.
Rumors said he likes Mr. Gi-hun, and rivals with Mr. Sang-woo and Mr. Jung-bae.
Seong Gi-hun - Creative writing, Humanities and Personal finance. Mostly teach in the highschool department.
He's loved by the students. Basically the favorite teacher #2. Loud, supportive, and humorous. His table is always full of gifts when it's teachers day or his birthday. Gives good grades and not so complicated projects. Some students question why he teaches Personal Finance, when he has or had a gambling addiction. very ironic
He's best friend is Mr. Jung-bae. And he is Mr. Sangwoo's childhood friend.
Rumors said he is liked by two other teachers, Mr. In-ho and Mr. Sangwoo. Rumors also said he likes one of them.
Cho Sang-woo - Oral communication, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and every subject under Business. ONLY teach in the high school department.
Strict teacher #2. Every student despises him. Unlike Mr. In-ho some students actually like him. But Sangwoo? No. Simply no. 70% of students fail his classes. Everyone is afraid of him. His the kind of teacher that calls you to answer the question and if his not satisfied with your answer or answered wrong you will remain standing, he would ask you questions and every following question gets harder. The bell ringing doesn't save you either. Gives 3 homeworks every time. His an asshole. Always hot tempered, patient very little and has a cold expression every time.
Rumors said he likes two teachers. It was never cleared who he likes, but both of their descriptions are cute and loud. Rivals with Mr. In-ho but they're pretty chill with each other sometimes.
Ali Abdul - P.E teacher, Home economics, and Culinary arts. Teaches in the high school department. But teach P.E at the elementary department.
The best and favorite teacher #1. His table also gets flooded with gifts when it's teachers day or his birthday. Gets along with everyone. Loved by everyone. Rays of sunshine and rainbows. Loud , strong and always positive. Students always request him to be their substitute teacher if one teacher is too busy to attend their class. Culinary arts is the favorite subject that the students wants him to teach. He is a great cook!
Rumors said he likes one of his co-workers.
Park Jung-bae - P.E and History teacher. Substitute teacher for mathematics.
He hates substituting for mathematics. He doesn't know why the Headmaster Il-nam gave him that sub, but he never complained to him about it. (In-ho gave it to him out of spite and jealousy)
The best P.E teacher...Not really. But he is good at his job. Positive and cheerful. Goes wild on sports day. Great coach of the Baseball team. Ex-marine.
Rumors said Mr. In-ho is jealous of him because his always with his best friend Mr. Gi-hun.
Cho Hyun-ju - kindergarten teacher but also sometimes teaches social studies in the highschool department.
The kids love her. The best kindergarten teacher in the school. She's a kind, thoughtful, friendly and caring teacher. Beautiful too.
When she participated in an obstacle race on sports day, everyone didn't expect her to win. But in the end she won, getting her the title champion, In-ho getting first place, Sang-woo getting second, Gi-hun getting third and Ali getting fourth. Everyone was so shocked but cheered happily.
Rumors said one of her student's father likes her and would give her gifts, like a sketch or drawing of her face. Rumors also said she used to be a soldier.
Jang Geum-ja - School nurse but teach Health, Nutrition and Home economics.
She's the mother of everyone. Cares about everyone. Would bring snacks at the faculty room and give them to the teachers and staff. She always checks the food at the cafeteria if it's safe and healthy to eat. Knows everyone's allergies and always carries medicine in her pockets.
Her son part time jobs as the school nurse assistant.
Rumors said she knows one of the students is pregnant.
The subjects I gave them are mostly highschool subjects and idk what exactly fits them I just went with my guts, plus this is just a headcanon so i hope no one gets mad LOL, feel free to suggest more in the comments or in my ask box.
Posting Part 2 and 3 soon!

I am EXPENSIVE that’s why the idea of being dependent or submissive to a man never made sense to me among the other reason that I am just assertive and dominant(but still feminine) in nature. Anyway- it made me think of Bowens skid mark ass self when he said “I get you all to myself and you live happily.” Does that imply that he wants us to stay at home or what because ain’t NO WAY.
What ever he thinks he is going to make with his little Forensic diploma is not going to cut it for me. If you triple no QUADRUPLE!! The highest salary for a forensic detective it still will not come close to satisfy me. I’m not even saying that to be greedy that is just like a fact. I gotta save the world and the oceans need more money than $137k a year to help clean them among the many other projects.
Anyway I digress- reader just lowkey shaming this man like: “ You say I’ll be happy but you’re broke, not my type, look like you will develop a hunchback at 40, have a weird personality and not the good kind, and probably have a skinny dick. So absolutely not.”
note; roast his ass anon, get him!
warnings; manipulation, bowen lol, sub yan, fem reader, death mention, gn pronouns
Bowen would just stand there with his mouth shut, a weirdly strict look on his face as he listens to you talk about your big ideas and future avenues. However, he is a massive asshole and will definitely sabotage either you (more on this later) or others to make sure he ends up with you.
(he also doesn't care about your shaming, he'd just take it in stride. Or he'd be super into it and will set himself out to prove you wrong.)
It's either 'Oh no, your competitors have suddenly lost all their funding.' or 'We should pool our funds together to help out, also let's do a backyard fundraiser or something!'
However, if that doesn't work for you, ie you really need the money and he simply doesn't match up, he will steal or get into other ventures involving... services.
Let's not kid ourselves, Bowen is a hundred per cent the type of yandere that doesn't isolate opponents and freeze them from your affection. No, this man simply kills them and moves on. Surely other people need a hitman, and he knows about the aftermath so he's perfect for the job.
He will definitely steal the belongings of the person he killed just to get some extra cash as well.
On the other hand, if he gets his way and lives with you he'll be super supportive. Has posters of awareness all over the office he's in, chats up his coworkers about your humanitarian efforts, (basically begs to be involved in some of the marine life ventures because seriously who doesn't love sharks and shit) and always attends your seminars.
If push comes to shove then he'd definitely move to more isolated and online work. He doesn't want to give up his job so he knows how it feels to want to be active in life. He would never pull a fast one on you and ask you to quit. However, he will try and relocate you elsewhere if your workplaces simply don't match up.
"Love there's a really nice office space in the next city over, we can pool our money and set up a base of operations for you." or "I can definitely transfer offices, so make sure there's space in the new house for all these files."
Anon, there is just simply no way you'll get him to leave you alone!
(and if every option he has is exhausted... well there's nothing more romantic than dying in each other's arms)

“The Fantastic Four” (1961, issue 4)
At the end of the previous volume, the Torch ran off because he was fed up with the Thing shitting on him.
Spelling it thru is certainly a choice, and one I’ve decided to stick with for the remainder of this blog. Flashback panels having a wavy border to distinguish them is a nice touch. And is that… a primordial ad for the Hulk? I wonder what that could be?
There it is on the next page! What could they be talking about!?
Trans pride flag!Sue Storm forgets to relax her invisibility while searching for Johnny, causing another ghost scare. Starting to enjoy how this is just a consistent thing she does. The best pranksters succeed without even trying, truly.
So everybody knows this guy is the Torch, by the way. And he flames on in front of people he knows, so he knows they know. "Save this for future reference."
The Hulk - I mean the Thing - can have a little angst, as a treat. This one feels a little forced though.
I’m given to understand that Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner predates the Marvel Comics label, having been published in the 40s back when they were called Timely Comics. It’s funny to see Johnny read one of their own comics approximately twenty feet away from a guy who is totally not Namor, no way, jeez what even was on the cover of this issue ha ha
Wow, would you lookit that, that’d be Namor right on cue! Wait. Wait a gods-damned second. He can’t be.
He can’t be! But he is--! Are… are D&D elves aesthetically inspired by Namor? Or is that just a shared old-style idea of “inhuman beauty”, the high pronounced eyebrows and sharp, lengthy cheekbones? Or is it just that picture of Mialee in the Player’s Handbook that incidentally looks similar? Probably a mix of options 2 and 3. Namor turns out to be tough as nails, and elves in the earlier editions of D&D, well they certainly ain’t.
Meanwhile I really like this. Tons of people who still have no idea about capes, and so think they’re a hoax or fiction that’s been put in the wrong section of the library.
Sue does not know her own brother’s voice - you heard it here first. Johnny demonstrates for the first time his ability to reflexively “flame off” parts of his body that come into contact with others; we already saw him do a partial transformation when doing welding.
Namor meanwhile realizes that his undersea kingdom was demolished by an atomic weapons test (!!!!!!!) and he decides to defeat the surface world in retaliation. Also he’s kinda hunky : )
He unleashes “Giganto”, a mega-sized mix of whale and primate, to terrorize New York and it wrecks thru buildings once it makes landfall. Kind of surprised to see so much mass demolition this early into the comics. Anyways the Thing just requisitions a nuke (something the F4 can do, I guess), plunges into the beast, sets it off inside and makes it out safe. Namor beats all of them physically, but is obviously vanquished at the end. There is a notable moment in that fight, though, where when Namor spots Sue for the first time, he declaims that should she marry him, his feud w the surface world would be over. Gross!
This isn’t a bad issue. Namor’s fun cameo and promise to return set up a wider world, and he’s less one-dimensional than any of the villains so far. The Thing and Torch continue to provide the only real character of the quartet, though. The other two need to step up at some point.
#hrm liveblog#the fantastic four#marvel comics#superfluous atomic weaponry: 2->3#I am serious about saving “people know who the Torch is” for future reference#Namor : ) ) ) ) ) ))))) ) ) )#cover scene almost happens so I'm not gonna say it doesn't#Atlanteans count as a new alien species right? i think one of the most fascinating thing with comics is how they kind of will make light of things a long time after they happen even if at the time, they're treated super seriously. like take the fact ive seen this exact joke in the 60s-70s marvel comics despite well, the 40s comics around when pearl harbor happened were over the top demonizing japan. and it kind of makes me wonder how this specific instance from 2 different authors came about given both of them were alive when it happened?
[ID: A comic panel from Sub-Mariner #35 where the Silver Surfer is hovering above Iron Man. The Silver Surfer says "And so it begins anew! The mindless anger - the lashing out rather than the reasoning together!" and Iron Man replies "We'll reason together with you, surger- when we're sure you won't pearl our harbor! Now just hold still a minute-!" /end ID]
#twist rambles#like its baffling cause marvel esp (idk on dc bc i havent read their wwii propaganda comics as much as marvels) was like so much worse to#imperial japanese army vs the nazis? so it feels so flippant in a really odd way. the other time it was clint just saying that but that guy#loves to say odd and weird stuff so it wasnt as shocking as fucking. i.ron man???

BONUS: I had to cut this from my last post, but here, have Spidey calling Namor “cutes” and “babe.” I think that calling people pet names is just a Spidey quirk that some writers latch onto more than others, but I’m rotating these in my head all the same.

hello :) i have very recently gotten into namor comics and i wanted to know, what are your favorite arcs/solos hes had? i hope its not too much of a bother. thank you and i hope youre doing well. ^_^
Hello and welcome. It's always a pleasure to speak with Namor fans ❤️ Thanks for asking, I'm well and I hope you are too.
Series:
King in Black: Namor - It's wonderfully written and gives us great lore and character moments. It's written by Kurt Busiek who really knows the character. The artwork is amazing, drawn by two different artists but I have to point out how much I really enjoy the colorists' work. The way they chose to make present day Namor scenes all muted colors, like the ocean is sick and dying, meanwhile his past scenes has such vibrant color.
Sub-Mariner: The Depths - I'm a big horror fan so this was a perfect combination of horror and Namor. I wish this would someday be adapted into a short animation or live action film. Ribic's art carries the whole comic, you could understand it just by the art alone, tho the writing is great too.
Sub-Mariner (2007) - Honesty I feel this series is criminally under rated, it's one of my favorite modern takes on Namor. I do have a couple of criticisms of the plot/ending but overall this series is favorite, love the artwork, love the premise and Namor's characterization.
The Sub-Mariner (1968) - I'm a big fan of Silver Age Namor and this series has lots of great comics but some do drag on at point. Personal favorites, Namor vs The Thing and Namor meeting Betty again in #8, Dorma being possessed by the Serpent Crown in #9. Gonna stop there before I go digging to find every issue I loved, bc there's just a lot there, like I love Tigershark's introduction/stories and Namor and Diane's friendship, and the quest for Namor's father etc.
Arc's:
Tales to Astonish: The Quest for Neptune's Trident #70-76. (To be fair I do love a lot Tales to Astonish but I'm just trying to pick out arcs that I reread alot.)
Namor goes insane in space: Uncanny X-Men (1963) Annual 3 (2001), Steve Rogers: Super Soldier Annual 1, Namor: The First Mutant Annual 1
Suma-Ket & Artys-Gran Arc - Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #30-40. Dark Undersea High Fantasy arc, love it.
Solo Comics:
Marvel Fanfare (1982) #16 & 43, both these are solo adventures
Marvel Snapshot: Sub-Mariner (2020) - I can never get enough of this comic, told from Betty's pov, its wonderful.
Avengers: Emperor Doom - I love every time Namor and Doom team up or interact but if I had to pick one time it's this.
What if? Sub-Mariner (2011) - Love love this story by Greg Pak of Namor growing up on land.
The Judgement of Namor - Dark Reign: The Cabal - Namor takes court and deals with his subjects. An excellent look into Namor's role as the monarch of Atlantis.
Marvel (2020) #3 - I loved the sketch arts of the comic that was unfinished, it had been around for decades but when Marvel finally printed it in full I was so happy. I still prefer the sketchy art but I thought this was a fun adventure and Namor is in a suit, lol.
Marvel Comics Presents: (1988) #33 - All time favorite Namor comic, #1 spot in my heart. (2007) #7 - Namor mourns Nita's death (2019) #1 - A heavy story by Greg Pak about WWll
Tales of the Marvels: Inner Demons - a look at Namor while he was an amnesiac
I haven't even started on character team up comics or team books and if I start on those I won't stop. lol. I'll put a link here to my 2019 comic reading guide that can help you find most major arcs. I hope you enjoy reading!

This is my Marvel Comics reading order. Since I wrote this one long before I wrote my DC one, it's a lot simpler and more compact. I mostly just stick to Marvel Masterworks here. I feel like I probably should change it, to update it to be more like the DC list I made, but frankly, I don't know how I could do that. The most I kind of want to do is add some modern humour comics. But the list as a whole feels pretty good. I definitely could stand to add more characters, but I don't know if i'm prepared to spend more time making long-winded, frivolous reading lists. sigh...

the most recent development in the case of the missing Titan submersible is that the U.S. Navy has now officially been brought in to assist on the search. earlier it was reported that they were looked at being brought in but are now involved. while the U.S. Coast Guard was focusing mainly on the surface of the water in the search for the sub, the search is now taking place underwater as well. from CNN:
The US Navy is sending subject matter experts and a “Flyaway Deep Ocean Salvage System (FADOSS)” to assist in the search and rescue of a tour sub that has been missing since Sunday, a spokesperson said Tuesday.
The FADOSS is a “motion compensated lift system designed to provide reliable deep ocean lifting capacity for the recovery of large, bulky, and heavy undersea objects such as aircraft or small vessels,” the spokesperson said.
A Navy information page on the FADOSS says it can lift up to 60,000 pounds.
The equipment and personnel are expected to arrive at St. John’s by Tuesday night and will be in support of the US Coast Guard.
the other piece of news: there is only about 40 hours of breathable air left. also per CNN:
The Coast Guard said Tuesday that the search has not yielded anything so far, but it is continuing to look both on the surface and underwater for the missing submersible. Officials estimated that the crew onboard has "about 40 hours of breathable air left."
for those curious as to how something like this could even be ok'ed, know that others had doubts about what OceanGate was doing, too.
as reported by The New York Times, in 2018 Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, by the Marine Technology Society's Manned Underwater Vehicles committee. the group itself is a 60-year old trade group that, according to their website, "promotes awareness, understanding, and the advancement and application of marine technology."
the letter itself was signed by more than three dozen people, which comprised of "oceanographers, submersible company executives and deep-sea explorers", had stated their "unanimous concern" in regards to the Titan submersible. today, Tuesday, chairman of the committee Wil Kohnen said the letter was written because of fears that presumably he and the others had about what could happen if a company is not held to industry standards. quote from Kohnen in the Times:
“The submersible industry had significant concerns over the strategy of building a deep sea expedition submersible without following existing classification safety guidelines,” Mr. Kohnen said.
according to the letter, they said that OceanGate's marketing of the Titan sub as claiming it would "meet or exceed the safety standards" of the DNV - by their website they are "the world’s leading classification society and a recognized advisor for the maritime industry"; they are to maritime vessels, vehicles, and offshore units what the DMV is to cars, trucks, etc., more or less - as "misleading." indeed, OceanGate had no plans to have the Titan assessed by the DNV.
Stockton Rush called Kohnen after receiving and reading the letter, and stated that "industry regulations were stifling innovation." they would later reiterate this stance in a 2019 blog post about why the Titan wasn't classed (which can be found here, for now).
OceanGate said in the post that because its Titan craft was so innovative, it could take years to get it certified by leading assessment agencies. “Bringing an outside entity up to speed on every innovation before it is put into real-world testing is anathema to rapid innovation,” the company wrote.
the company was aware, however, that the Titan had issues. once again, per the NYT:
More recently, OceanGate referenced some technical issues with the Titan in a court filing.
“On the first dive to the Titanic, the submersible encountered a battery issue and had to be manually attached to its lifting platform,” the company’s legal and operational adviser, David Concannon, wrote in 2022 in a filing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, which oversees matters having to do with the Titanic. The submersible sustained modest damage to its exterior, he wrote, leading OceanGate to cancel the mission so it could make repairs.
Still, Mr. Concannon wrote in the filing, 28 individuals had been able to visit the Titanic wreckage on the craft in 2022.
despite these issues with the Titan being brought up and essentially brushed away by OceanGate, issues having been brought up for years now, in retrospect it seems something like this happening was simply inevitable.

IMAGES: B-1 bombers make a historic visit to Turkey
Turkish Air Force integrates with U.S. bombers on a long-planned mission.

Two U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancers bombers assigned to the 9º Expeditionary Bomber Squadron arrived on Tuesday (10/31) at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, for a historic hot-pit refueling as part of the long-planned bomber task force training mission.
A hot-pit refueling refers to the tactic of refueling aircraft while the engines are still running. This marks the first time that U.S. Air Force B-1 has been replenished in this way at Incirlik Air Base. The aircraft stayed at the base for less than two hours before leaving for a training mission with the Turkish Air Force.

The Deputy Commander of the Wing of the 39ª Air Base, Colonel Robert Schoeneberg of the U.S. Air Force, and the Chief Command of the Wing of the 39ª Air Base, Chief Sergeant. Kevin Helms greeted the Commander of the 9º EBS, U.S. Air Force Colonel Lieutenant Ryan Stillwell, and the Sub-Commander of the 489º Bombing Group Command, U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Marshall on the flight line.

The B-1s integrated with the Turkish military, including the KC-135R Asena refuelers and the F-16 Fighting Falcons, for training missions planned well in advance to practice Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) procedures and close air support training missions.
“Teamwork with our Turkish air force partners has demonstrated the interoperability and professionalism of NATO aviators,” Stillwell said. “Thank you to the 10ª Tank Base and 39ª Wing Team Titan Air Base for their specialized support and hospitality.”

Incirlik Air Base is one of the largest military facilities in Turkey and its strategic location makes it a center for NATO integration and the defense of NATO's southern flank.
“We are excited to support and celebrate this historic refueling operation in Incirlik,” Schoeneberg said. "This demonstrates the unique capabilities and strategic positioning of this base. In addition, it highlights for everyone that Turkey is a critical member of the NATO alliance and that Team Titan is open to business."
