Tottenham Hotspur vs Nottingham Forest: Match Preview

Should Spurs get the three points, they’ll go forth in the table.

Spurs play Forest in what is a must-win fixture before a run of tricky fixtures, including the North London Derby, Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea away, and possibly a yet-to-be-rescheduled Manchester City home game. Spurs’ form has been inconsistent recently like most of the season has been for them, winning their last three out of five games (including the 0-4 Villa game) but also lost poorly to Fulham and drew to West Ham in the previous game. However, they have won four out of their last five home games - only losing to Wolves - and are heavy favourites for this game, picking up an average of 2.20 points at home this season.

The Lilywhites won 0-2 in the reverse fixture, with goals from Richarlison from a Kulusevski cross and the Swede scoring later, taking advantage of a Turner mistake. There will be no Matt Turner for tonight’s game, though, as Forest now has a new number 1 in Sels. Bissouma also received a red card for a silly challenge, resulting in a four-game ban, although he didn’t miss any games through suspension due to his unavailability from AFCON. Veliz also had a great cameo, getting one zero touches of the ball as he was subbed on at the last minute to run down the time (my apologies, but this was too funny not to point out). Before all that, Johnson - on his return to the City ground after his summer transfer - received a nasty cut above his eyebrow, whose scar is still visible today. Spurs were still suffering an injury crisis with van de Ven and Maddison still injured (they ended the game with a midfield of Hojbjerg, Skipp, and Sarr), with Davies and Kulusevski replacing them, respectively.

In terms of head-to-head records, Spurs have won the last four out of their previous five games against Forest, only losing 2-0 in the EFL Cup in 2022 due to goals from Lodi and Lingard (I just saw the back five of Sess, Lenglet, Dier, Sanchez, and Doherty and shuttered). Spurs won this fixture last season 3-1, with Kane scoring a brace and Son adding to the tally (Richarlison had a goal disallowed), Worrall scoring a late consolation goal, and Ayew missing an even later penalty for the visitors.

Forest come into this game with one win in seven matches, although the win was a resounding one against Fulham in the midweek. Before that, they lost four and then drew two. They’re currently 17th in the table, only above Luton Town on goal difference, following the Hatters’ win against Bournemouth on Saturday. Forest have an abysmal away record, only picking up 10 points on the road, with a record of 2-4-9. Their 29-point haul this season includes their four-point deduction for PSR breaches, which are currently under appeal (which ironically revolves around the sale of Johnson).

Sarr should be returning back into the starting lineup.

Predicted Lineup

Guglielmo Vicario: Clean sheets have been rare for all his good performances. This game may be one of the best chances he has before the end of the season.

Destiny Udogie: He’s impressed this season but must be wary of Elanga during this game.

Micky van de Ven: Chris Wood is not known for his speed, but Micky’s pace will be helpful should Forest counter (which they will).

Cristian Romero: The vice-captain will have to keep Wood in check, and like the rest of the defenders, a clean sheet would be welcome.

Pedro Porro: He hasn’t been as free-flowing these days but remains everpresent

Pape Matar Sarr: He was benched the last game, presumably for rotation or injury concerns, but should start.

Yves Bissouma: He performed well against West Ham and was complimented by Ange. Despite inconsistencies in his games, his position is not at risk.

James Maddison: He hasn’t quite hit the heights before his injury, but his spot is secure.

Timo Werner: Although he has the right profile for this team, his goalscoring instincts still need to be improved.

Son Heungmin: With Richarlison injured for this match, Son should lead the frontline, and a goal would be great following his 400th appearance.

Brennan Johnson: The Forest Academy graduate will play against his former teammates again, hoping to last longer on the pitch and leave unscathed.

Players Dropped

Rodrigo Bentancur: He performed fine and has been for most of his appearances following his ankle injury, but Sarr should take his spot for this game.

Dejan Kulusevski: He hasn’t been dropped as he was benched in the last game, but his performances have waned after an otherwise consistent run, and Johnson should be starting, although Kulusevski will no doubt make a cameo at some point.

Fraser Forster (injury): Out for the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Chris Wood (NFO): Forest’s top scorer with 11 goals has been on fire, scoring thrice in their last three games, with 0.82 goals every 90 minutes this season. His aerial prowess will have to be kept in check by Spurs.

Anthony Elanga (NFO): The Swedish international equals Gibbs-White’s assist numbers at seven and will relish the space in Spurs’ high line, particularly when Udogie drifts inside.

Prediction

On paper, this should be a routine win for Spurs, but Spurs tend to hold possession of the ball and need to do more with it. Sub!Sess - Your Scent

Sesshomaru tends to get turned on by your scent, especially during mating season. Whenever you're not in the mood to deal with an overly horny dog demon, you switch from your scentless soap to something stronger, and douse yourself with perfume from the modern era. This annoys the hell out of him. Strange scents were invasive, threatening, and yes, you smelled like a field of cherry blossoms, but that could easily be someone else's scent on you. He'll be pouty about it, but then not so subtle when he leads you by one of those rivers with a slow current. “Take off your clothes.”

When you refuse to bathe and scold him for trying to order you around, he might take matters into his own hands and lick the product from your neck. He calms down once he can smell your natural scent coming through again. Calms down enough so that you have to deal with the very thing you were hoping to avoid.

All in all, while the perfume might get you a little time to yourself, just be careful with how often you use a singular scent, because he'll start associating that smell with you and it'll just get weird the next time he ventures into a cherry blossom field.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Sometimes, and it’s not that I’m not grateful- because I am! Comments give me liiiife and they’re wonderful to read. Very uplifting. However I feel awkward responding. I don’t know why. All I can say is - ‘thank you’ so it feels weird. I hope my lack of response doesn’t come across as too arrogant or ungrateful, I worry about that sometimes.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Uhhh well its not Sesskag. I’d say in my oneshot collection called Diabolik Fairy tales, there’s one that covers the Little Mermaid. It ends like the fairy tale- with the Mermaid dying. She leaves Laito alone and empty. 

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I think Romancing Ego. It’s verrry fluffy and self indulgent and its cute! Ends with Sesskag and their kids.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I’ve only written one called Young Love that has both Zutara and Sesskag. It involves Kagome being a matchmaker.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Oh yeah, a bunch of times. Usually on ff.net. Once it was about someone not grasping that Terracotta Teeth was a Dark Romance and they kind of blew up about the problematic elements. Other times its usually about my Kagome portrayal not being ‘strong’ enough, but female characters are SUPER hard to write, since people are more critical of them than male characters. Most of the time Sess can do no wrong to readers, it can be mildly frustrating.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yes! Uhh I don’t think I’m super detailed with it but I write a lot of standard stuff. Occasionally I throw in some shades of Sub Sess, or a lil bit of bondage. Most of the time its rough, passionate sex. I love writing Monster Sesskag smut at the moment though hehe.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yep I had Diabolik Fairy Tales uploaded onto Wattpad. Luckily everyone on tumblr was v supportive and helped me take it down.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I think so, though I’ve since stopped agreeing to it since I always forget who I’ve given permission to lolol

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yeah, though it’s made me realise I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to writing and would prefer to pace the story my own way rather than compromise.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

I don’t think I have a definitive one, though I’d say Sesskag have taken centre stage lolol

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Probably Support for Limbo. I hope I’m able to eventually finish Macaria...

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue and emotions. I feel like I can usually write teasing and engaging dialogue. I try to give visual cues to showing emotions but I’m no stranger to using metaphors for emotions too. 

What are your writing weaknesses?

Description for sure. From the scenery to characters clothes, I’m terrible at setting a scene and remembering to say what people are wearing. I need to work on writing scenery more but I can never summon the energy to talk about clothes. Unfortunately a couple of times some LOVELY fan artists have drawn stuff from my fics and didn’t know what Kagome was wearing so they had to improvise haha. I feel bad about that, I’ll try slipping in more clothing stuff.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Not a fan unless there’s a reason. Idk the early days of fanfiction has scarred me from too many random japanese phrases thrown into fics.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Ummm....Ya know I’m still gonna have to say Snake Charmer XD I know I should say Swimming in Silk or Conversing with Emotion but I think for me as a reader, I’d pick Snake Charmer to re-read. I don’t think it’s ‘the best’ but I like it! It’s a guilty pleasure.

As someone that never ever cared about ships and stuff and just see what the shows wanna tell me (tbh I usually try to distance myself from the shipping part of any fandom) I always thought: were did all this "dad!sesshomaru" people came from? Like, maybe in fanfictions, sure, but like canon Sesshomaru always hated humans and probably thought about Rin like some kind of puppy at the beginning and it wasnt until the final act and her SECOND death that he realized that rin was special to him and then just decides to make humand raise her. The thought of Sess thinking about rin as a daughter during their journey is so ooc for me lmao, people really think that the cold and human hating sesshomaru saw the little girl and went "I guess im your father now lmao" it really makes me think how low the bar for what a father is for fictional characters, like all what Sesshomaru did with her was protecting her when she was in danger or making sure she was safe during critical moments, because he thought about her as a daughter? Lmao no, it was because he was curious about her and about the fact that it was with her that he was ablo to use Tenseiga's powers for the first time. Sesshomaru probably passed 80% of the time thinking about how to be more powerfull/hunting Naraku sometimes and the remaining 20% thinking about why the hell did Tenseiga reacted like that for Rin while unconsciously getting attached to her and her shenanigans. With Rin happened the same, so many people claiming that Rin saw Sess as her father, while canon Rin still had nightmares about her own family for who knows how many months/years, even with that episode where she told that to Kohaku rumiko could easily make Rin saying something about the lines that Sess was like a Father to her but instead use it to show that Rin still missed her family and that that Fatherly/motherly space in her heart was never filled by Sess, so it was obvious that she never saw him as a Father (I always thought that she saw him as this weird spirit/hero that let her join him i his weird journey and Rin obviously went with him cuz that was more funny than being by her own).

The show never showed a familial bond nor a romantic one, it was just that there were lots of hints about Sess and FUTURE Rin developing something more but it was just that, a "maybe you and your father are too identical" that obviously hinted at the romantic aspect and thats why the ship exists this hard to begin with, like, if really sessrin was just a fanon thing only with 0 hints in the manga/anime then it wouldn't be this famous lmao.

What actually makes me sick is watching people antagonize both Rumiko and Sunrise for making a comeback just because it has things that they dont like, I never thought that the yashahime fandom would be like other famous fandoms were people start to cherry pick wath is canon and what it isn't just to justify their opinions lmao.

Like, it’s okay if you INTERPRET their relationship as such but like, that’s it, it’s only YOUR interpretation. I hate, HATE, HAAAATE the way the western fandom (more like, the AMERICAN fandom) tries to impose their headcanon on us. THERE’S NOT A SINGLE FRAME IN THE ANIME OR MANGA THAT SHOWS SESSHOMARU BEING A FATHER FIGURE. I’m sorry that these people had such awful dads tho. I mean, to think that sesshomaru acted like a dad..... damn.....

The canon material in the manga (I think the character’s profile) says that Sesshomaru took Rin because he was intrigued by her human nature. That’s it. He was like “uhm, what an interesting species. okay Jaken there you go, im out to kill naraku, bye!” 😂 Also, Rin is described as a vassal of Sesshomaru. VASSAL!

Anyway, I blame the english dub. I never watched a dub for inuyasha since I only read the manga and after that I watched the whole series subbed. But I KNOW how the dubs in north america tend to mess up with anime. Believe me, I’m a Cardcaptor Sakura fan and I’ve heard HORRIBLE things about what the dub did to that anime. And for what I’ve read, the inuyasha dub never got fully broadcasted there? so like, these people that see Sessh as Rin’s dad have only watched like, the same 10 episodes of the series (not even the Final Act) over and over again 🙄 Because honestly??? I don’t feel the same about the LATAM fandom. Actually, the LATAM fandom loves sessrin just as much as the japanese fandom does.
