They’re outside and standing up, so it’s not like he can just conk out, but he watches as the wood machine pulls a stump out of the ground, sounds like grinding, cracking bones following it up.

“...they can get pretty massive, too.” Macon is saying, cigarette dangling out of his mouth, and Benny turns to glance at him, for a heartbeat. “But the Sequoiadendrons get huge. Bet you could drive right through one.”

Benny blinks, and realizes his mouth is wide open. “What?” He says, after a minute. Macon’s mouth tilts upwards, and his smoke moves with the gesture.

“Bet they’ll all be gone, before I’m even dead.” He says, and it’s almost hollow. “Around for millions of years and dead before I’ll see one in real life.”

Benny’s fingers are cold. He reaches out, takes Macon’s cigarette from in between his lips and brings it to his own mouth. He doesn’t think about the movement, just does it.

He can feel Macon’s eyes on the side of his face as he takes a drag. “What’s seventy-eight times one hundred and twenty-nine?” He asks, blowing out smoke. The first two numbers to pop into his head. 

Macon’s quiet, for a moment. Thinking. “Ten thousand sixty-two.” He says, finally. “Why?”

Benny smiles around the smoke, but turns and tucks it back into the corner of Macon’s mouth, nonetheless.

“Nothing.” He says. He loves it when Macon does math, too. “What’s sixty-two times eight hundred forty?”

Macon huffs, and smoke blows out of his nose. “Find someone else to do your times tables.” He says dryly.

Ratchet

He's of course baffled at how intelligent you are, but then again he's so upset and frustrated at how you straight up destroy your invention afterward. They could be so useful! They could help society for the better! Like the teleporter you made! That could help reduce the costs of transportation but you just destroyed it!

Of course he understands that inventions like these can be used to harm people if they fall into the wrong hands, but he's still frustrated and upset with how you're being so wasteful. Wasteful of your time, wasteful of resources—it just really grinds his gears.

But, if you offered to help him with medical work, he'd accept your help—but at first lecture you. Because while you may be a genius, he does doubt that any knowledge you have around machines will help you with cybertronians. But if you prove him wrong, he'll be pleasantly surprised (and impressed to the slightest degree) but that doesn't mean he'll stop teaching you about cybertronian anatomy.

He doesn't tend to seek out your knowledge or expertise for any extremely advanced gadgets, but rather simple human gadgets he has a hard time operating. So more times than once you've helped him out with the old computers at the base.

Wheeljack

He's impressed with how smart you are, but he doesn't get why you destroy it. I mean sure you've destroyed any and all record of that super advanced machine, but you've technically just proved that it can be made. People will make it in the future, and whether you like it or not, it will eventually be used for worse rather than better.

But with that aside, you could be his little helper if you wanted to. He'd let you help out with his ship, and he'd lift you up into the crevasses he can't reach into, and you can help sort it out from there. Or you could help out with making grenades. It's simple, but extremely dangerous.

Knockout

If you enjoy making weapons, Knockout would definitely start geeking out over all of them. He'd want to learn about the technicalities of each weapon��not because he wants to replicate them—ok maybe he does, but it's also because he wants to learn about how they work. But of course like all the others he's completely baffled with how you just destroy your own inventions.

He'll frequently come to you for help and advise on any gadgets he'd make, but only when he could really use some advise. And if his own devices are faulty or if he's running into a couple technological issues, he'll ask for your help troubleshooting if he happens to find himself stumped.

I'm sure there are vegans who are knowledgeable about biology and zoology, etc (there HAVE to be. Right?), but I am continuously seeing takes on here that seem to be coming from people who haven't bothered to learn anything about the animals they claim to care about so much, and that is... BREATHTAKINGLY ironic to me. Like the person who claimed that honey is made by grinding up bees in a machine?!! Or that humans "force" them to make it somehow?!! Genuinely WHAT are you TALKING about??? 😭 Watch a nature documentary or read a Wikipedia article or SOMETHING! They make that stuff ON THEIR OWN! This is why historically foraging humans (not to mention FREAKING BEARS!) could find honey LITERALLY DRIPPING out of hollow dead tree stumps in the FREAKING WOODS! This is why people who have accidental bee infestations in their houses have honey oozing out of the freaking walls! They make it to feed their larvae and they almost always make too much! Which is why it oozes out everywhere! To hear "educate yourself" from people who know even less than I do about extremely basic nature science is... Really frustrating?

Laying in the grass, you feel a pressure against the small of your back. “Sans, I’m busy,” You grunt, returning to your equations.

The weight doesn’t leave, instead, it gross. You shift under his weight. His hands massage and roll out the tension in your shoulders.

The equation stumps you. You need not only for one of the functions to balance with the other but also be greater than a separate 3rd function. Each time you adjust one function, it messes up the relationship with another.

So focused on your work, you can almost ignore the feeling of those talented hands unraveling you’re your knots. You’d recognize those hands from anywhere.

“You’re not fooling anyone, Red.”

You only get a rumbling chuckle in response. That is, until he shifts to rubbing your shoulders to down your back. The heel of his hands digging into a particular knot that’s been festering for years. It’s grown like a cancer until even sitting in a chair is a painful procedure. “game’s over. If you think I’ll risk your brother wrath—” You groan.

It surprises him as much as it surprises you. He even pauses, giving you time to recovery in the safety of your arms.

Not only did you choose a part of the gardens for their privacy but also their sound disruption for just such an occasion. Otherwise, the Mathematics Department would’ve long since misconstrued your relationship.

It sends a shiver down your spine know in appreciation. You that laugh all too well. It all makes sense now, Sans wouldn’t have shut up for so long just for a bit.

“goin’ a little too hard on ya, sweetheart? lemme… lighten the load.” You barely manage to bite your fist as he rolls even harder into your back. His body rocking back and forth like a machine. Each knot being battered like a steady hand, you’d imagine in an hour or so, baring death of embarrassment, there wouldn’t be a knot left.

Then it hits you, isn’t Red under a tighter deadline than you are? Falys Inc wasn’t the type to let such a thing slip. “Did you seriously…” you bite your fist again. “… ditch your project to just…”

A taller pair of glossy leather boots come to a hault in front of you. You choke, scrambling to get up just as Red leans his full weight on you, forcing you into the grass. “Edge—this isn’t—it isn’t what it looks like.”

Wordlessly, he picks up your notes, flipping through them, taking pictures. You try to snatch them back but Red goes right back to grinding back into your shoulder. You can’t even form a thought, just bear through the shock of pain that makes you choke.

Red purrs into your ear, “did I hit something, sweetheart?”

“I…” You swallow hard, “thought we were keeping this strictly business.”

In response, he drinks in the smell of you, his nasal aperture pressed into your heck. Each breath feels scalding against your skin.

Another strategy. Efficiency, yes, “Edge, get your brother off me. You can’t expect me to come up with any worthwhile results under these conditions.”

He snaps your notebook shut, letting it fall to the ground. You scramble to scoop it up just as his foot lands on your hand.

Red’s hands tightening around your shoulders. “boss?”

Edge could so easily crush your hand yet. He doesn’t leans his full weight, instead carefully lowering himself to your side. “Whose to say you haven’t failed already?”

“But the-the reports!”

“Suboptimal. They get us no closer to controlling Fallys Corp. You’ll have to give us something more substantial that’ll tip the board’s favor.” He taps a pen between your eyes. “Seeing as how you seem intent on throwing your life away—”

“I’m on company grounds I’m safe—’

“For some grass, my brother will be in charge of your person until you gain your sanity.” He discards the pen with a second flick to your face. “See to it that ze doesn’t get into trouble.”

“heh, can do boss.” He adds so only you an hear. “hear that, sweets? Yer schedule’s all free, whatcha wanna do first.”

“You truly are a.. a…” You breath heavily as you feel another groan build up. Instead, you rest your head in the grass, staring up at the former head of the Royal Guard and Royal-Pain-In-Your-Ass whenever monster politics converges with the college.

“Keep zem occupied until dinner. There will be consequences if you’re late.”

“yeah, yeah, I hear ya.”

“How do you epect me to get anything done? I have deadlines as well—gaaaawwd, ReeEeeeEeed, you piece of hogwash, f-f-cuk you.”

He rolls off, rubbing the small of your back as you shudder. The pain of the hard massage mixing with the pleasure of your fist knot being dispelled. It’s the equivalent of running a mile. How the fuck does he do that?

“stop reading into human biology.” You mutter.

He pinches your chin, forcing you to look at him. “how else am I ‘ppose ta learn without a test dummy?” He chuckles when you try to shake your head out of his grasp. “gotta relax, sweetheart. never seen ya so tense.”

“You’d know that wouldn’t you?! You tried to sabotage my work!”

Red gives you an incredulous look. “ya didn’t like it?”

“You food nearly knocked me out for 24 hours. How else am I supposed to take that? And then, of course, I wake up in your office.”

Red shrugs, utterly unrepentant. “then don’t stay up for four night in a row.”

“I… you do literally the same.”

Just as you get up, his grip tightens on your cheek. A syringe without a needle gets shoved into your mouth. You clamp down on his hand. But he’s got too hard a grip on you. The foul-tasting liquid gets shot into the back of your mouth, as if he wanted to dose a feline rather than a human being.

You spit and cough but there’s no way you can expel enough.

“don’ worry, boss won’t be back for awhile. jus you and me.”

Your stupid body relaxes at the thought. Half of your paycheck comes from your side gig with Edge. If he found you laying idle, regardless of interference from himself or his brother, you’d rather not think of what would come of it.

He pushes your shoulder blades. Those clever little hands unwinding months of knots. “I would’ve been d-done in a d-day..” You close your eyes, trying to focus on knocking him off but simply keeping on your head off the ground felt like a fully body workout.

You can already feel the relaxing affects of the monster edible tugging at you. Damn monster food and their instant effects.

“ya like it? something ‘dyne just cooked up.”

You try sitting up again, this time he even helps you. You stumble to your feet like a toddler, swaying back and froth before falling flat on your ass. Meanwhile, Red mimics eating popcorn “Encre!”

You drop back into the grass. “What do you even get out of this? I’ll be useless for the next six hours, you know that.” Pressing your hands to your eyes, you sigh as a lovely weight settles on your chest, forcing you to notice everything from the breeze ruffling your coat and the scent of freshly mowed grass.

Hands clasp around your wrists, loosely but firmly. You give them a tug, no way you’re getting out of this. He peels off your hands enough for you to see his grinning mug. You look off into the distant garden at an overflowing vine of grapes.

“Good, ain’t it?”

“I’m a fuckin’ snail.. you happy?” You mumble, trying to focus again at doing anything but laying down but man, what an inconvenience.

He chuckles as you rub your eyes. Nothing seems to clear your stupid head. You lean into each touch.

“Fuck just—” you pinch your nasal ridge, trying to focus but Red pauses. Red ever shutting up means he’s thinking. That’s never good for your ability to concentrate at all.

You catch his all consuming focus. He’s zeroed in on your nipple. You’d been meaning to mention that you’d gotten the last of the nipple bandages off a month ago. They’d since deflated in the short period away from your care. Though, oddly enough, the tips of both were hard like they’d never been removed.

The committee would have your head if you got distracted any longer. No matter how gorgeous Red looked on top of you or how badly you wanted him to explore the changes.  In the time you’d known red, the closest he’d ever gotten to your chest was your belly and shoulders. You’d told him soon as you had top surgery, he could touch anywhere he’d like.

“Red. Your project. Think. If diddling my nipples, who’s going to get all that work done? Who’s going to get the machine working?”

Why does it always have to be you giving a reality check? For once, could you be the one to told to slow down and stop fooling around. You sit up. Red even lets you get that far before his phalanges circle around your nipple, the one who’s edges look like a shooting star.

To hell with that, you still checked. It’s like your mind can’t truly comprehend that multiple decade long struggle is over.

His other hand clamped down on your neck, his thumb on your jugular. You could feel each breath and damn. Combine that with whatever drug he dosed you with, you could practically fall asleep like that.

By this point, your head had long since crashed into the grass. Too heavy from the drugs and Red’s rough touch. How were you ever support to get up again?

It’s then you feel something wet circle your less abused nipple.

Captions read, "Chinese chess is an ancient board game with a history dating back approximately two thousand years." The person soaks mother-of-pearl shells in water. Pulls them out and saws them into tiny rectangles. Sands them. "Soak seashells in water to soften, then saw them into small pieces and sand them evenly."

They lay out several sheets with Chinese characters on them. Each sheet has many repetitions of the same character. They cut them away in rectangles and glue them to the mother-of-pearl, then lay the pieces out on a wooden surface. "Glue. Air dry."

They begin sawing a tree stump with a red interior. Once there is a long round piece they can grasp in their hand, it is tied with rope a a swivel into a machine that will spin it as long as they keep pressing the pedal with their foot. Thus allowing them to carve it in shape of a column of small balls stacked together.

"Ground ivy." Strips of ivy are used to sand it down. The column is cut through, leaving each little ball with a flat top and bottom that need to be "File smooth. The hardwood is shaped into a drum-like form and roughly sanded."

The mother-of-pearl rectangles are cut into so only the part under the letters remain. "Lettering with a saw. Finishing with a file." This is further sanded and the glued on Chinese character is removed to expose a letter made out of mother-of-pearl.

These letters are now glued on the red wooden drums and traced, then removed so their outline can be chiseled in. "Lime. Outline the characters with a sharp needle,then apply lime to reveal the shape. Carving letters. Carve the letters slightly shallower than the seashell pieces for easier sanding later on."

A metal brand is heated up and pressed into the red wooden pieces. "Hot stamping." It leaves an intricate border, that is then carved in, to place gold looking wire in it. Wire need to be gently hammered and pressed in to really get in there for a smooth finish. "Embedding silver wire. The silver wire needs to be hammered in before annealing."

"Mix lacquer, lime plaster, and hide glue in proportion." Mixture is them placed in the letter shaped carvings in the wood. The seashell Chinese characters are then pressed in and the mixture that gets pressed out is wiped. "Setting mother-of-pearl inlay. Decorating utensils by setting clam shells as inlays is referred to as mother-of-pearl inlay. Air drying in the shade."

Person makes a chessboard with more red wood, and silver wire for the borders between spaces. "Chessboard." The red pieces are finished. "Waxing. Coarse grinding the stone, polishing the fabric, waxing to reduce wood cracking." The pieces are held in the light to show how overall shiny they are and then stacked in rows and columns inside a wooden red box. "Mother-of-pearl chess set."
