one more ... lift up Jesus
Tumblr media
One more.
There were 10 locations this year serving with back2school.  There are other churches doing outreaches that include backpacks and other items.  Every one is an exciting opportunity to share Jesus, to encourage students and to let God literally build His kingdom.
Pray for the students.  Pray for the things they heard would sink in.  Pray that the Bible in each backpack or the prayer prayed over them would do what God said it would.
Here are some of the things that we often claim when doing an outreach like this.
Matthew 19:14  NLT
But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”
John 12:32 NLT
And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”
Romans 15:4  NLT
Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
Romans 10:13  NLT
For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
It is pretty clear.  Pray for these things in the lives of all the students served through back2school.  Students being served this weekend in South Carolina.  Students that were served last weekend in Virginia and Kentucky.  Students served at several other locations.
Open doors for others to get to know Jesus.  Lift up and share Jesus!

Seeing the college and university campus encampments is really cool to me because its what I’ve been screaming about for years at this point but in a more political demonstration sense than the community support sense:
Community libraries
Free classes
Community kitchen, community meals
Inter-faith support
Medical tents and medical aid
The important thing right now is to pressure our institutions, the media, and the governments to call for a ceasefire and allow meaningful aid into Gaza and even push for the end of the apartheid if we’re loud and bold enough, but don’t forget to feed your neighbours.
Help implement free breakfast clubs in your neighbourhood, start a community garden, have monthly community meals, start a monthly book and clothes exchange, campaign for drug harm reduction and comprehensive and inclusive sexual health care and education. We've proved this is possible! Use the momentum for other social issues too!
Scream about Gaza, talk to elder activists, and remember to care for one another.

whatever career I end up in, I need it to be one where I don't have to be creative. I am way too dumb to be making fun and educational posters, let me just write an essay and pin that to the board instead

I’m so tired of my physics lab group because it’s me and then a bunch of guys who went to the same Christian high school in the same town as my university and they just talk about guns all the time.
Today one guy was telling a story about his cousin who’s in Communications so the professors are more liberal so she has to deal with them “talking about pronouns and crap.” Same guy has a sticker on his phone that says “I support FREE SPEECH not ~POLITICAL CORRECTNESS~”
Of course they were all talking about the Citadel shooting in Nashville too and how the shooter was trans.
@the-starlight-papers
#idk if it’s better or worse than my engineering class with the professor who makes a decent number of off color jokes#and is constantly toeing the line of what would get him reported to administration#some guy in engineering class today literally said ‘I’m racist’ and even that professor was like 😬#engineering professor also told some kid who was mouthing off that ‘you make me wish I wasn’t pro life’#engineering professor then started joking that he was going to snap one day because of said kid and then asked us where we would run#I hate engineering sometimes because it’s majority male and majority white#so some people feel like they can just say anything#idk if I’ve mentioned this but I got to college in the south and my school has literally stopped naming residence halls after peopld#and also buildings#they’re all named after their geographic locations#ie Hilltop East and Hilltop West or South English Building#(those are all made up btw but the real ones are basically the same idea)#it also sucks sometimes because sometimes I’m in a student engineering team lab working on a project#and then the guy I’m in the lab working with alone is looking at a flyer for a transphobic speaker coming to campus#in the groupme for the organization that’s bringing him#and then I have to worry about is it safe for me to work on this project with this guy#and it’s been fine so far mostly because we either talk about the project or classes or nothing at all#and I don’t want to join the women in engineering clubs because I’m not a woman#and for my engineering team I’m worried I’ll be the token trans person and they’ll want to put me in their social media outreach or somethin#which maybe if we were back in my home state I’d agree#but here heck no#like I’m fine 95% of the time and then there’s the 5% of the time that makes me realize that what’s acceptable here is fucked up sometimes#and I should probably start standing up to some of these people and saying something#but also I have to keep working with these people and I want to make working with them as painless as possible#there’s been other things lately that have been fucked up too that are kinda specific to the point where I can’t share them here#but yeah#anyways psa to any NMS reading this#if you’re looking at going to a college that offers really generous full rides to all NMS#think about why they’re so desperate to get good student to come to their school

@alanabloommd As a former student teacher I second that! This is one reason I switched career paths from teaching to education outreach.
since we are talking about people who deserve a higher salary i think teachers should be making six figures a year btw. if state superintendents who have never set foot in a classroom can make that much so should the teachers. teachers are quite literally the backbone of our society and if teachers were actually properly compensated we wouldn’t have a shortage or bad teachers who are continually burnout because of a lack of proper compensation.

do you have any ideas about why so many students are struggling with literacy now? I know that illiteracy and reading comprehension have been issues for years and most americans read at like a 5th grade reading level but I’m curious why it seems to be worse now (pandemic? no child left behind?)
It is everything. There’s not one answer. I could talk about this forever so instead I set a five minute timer on my phone and wrote a list of as many of the many things that are causing this on a systemic level that I could think of:
It’s parents not reading with their kids (a privilege, but some parents have that privilege to be able to do this and don’t.)
It’s youtube from birth and never being bored.
It’s phasing out phonics for sight words (memorizing without understanding sounds or meaning) in elementary schools in the early aughts.
It’s defunding public libraries that do all the community and youth outreach.
It’s NCLB and mandating standardized tests which center reading short passages as opposed to longform texts so students don’t build up the endurance or comprehension skills.
It’s NCLB preventing schools from holding students back if they lack the literacy skills to move onto the next grade because they can’t be left behind so they’re passed on.
It’s the chronic underfunding of ESL and Special Ed programs for students who need extra literacy support.
It’s the cultural devaluing of the humanities in favor of stem and business because those make more money which leads to a lot of students to completely disregard reading and writing.
It’s the learning loss from covid.
It’s covid trauma manifesting in a lot of students as learned helplessness, or an inability to “figure things out” or push through adversity to complete challenging tasks independently, especially reading difficult texts.
It’s covid normalizing cheating and copying.
It’s increasing phone use.
It’s damage to attention span exacerbated by increased phone use that leaves you without an ability to sit and be bored ever without 2-3 forms of constant stimulation.
It’s shortform video becoming the predominant form of social media content as opposed to anything text-based.
It’s starting to also be generative AI.
It’s the book bans.
what did I miss.

Adding my two cents:
Don't use flavored lube if it's going inside any non-mouth holes. That's a great way to get yeast infections. And yes, you can get anal yeast infections.
Oil-based lube isn't the same thing as just "oil". Please don't use random oil you find in your house (like cooking oil, or god forbid, essential oils) as lube.
"Oil-based lube is a no-go for latex condoms" means "the condom breaks, shockingly fast." I've demonstrated it before (by inflating a condom and rubbing oil lube on it), and the condom usually pops within 30 seconds.
Lube is almost always a good idea, don't be afraid to use it.
Bonus: You can use condoms on toys too, and it's generally a good idea.
are certain lubes better suited for vaginal or anal sex? or are they all the same?
hi anon,
water-based, oil-based, and silicone-based lube are all suitable for either vaginal or anal sex. many people prefer silicone-based lubricants for anal sex because it's so long-lasting and durable, which is helpful when you're working with an orifice that won't naturally lubricate itself. oil-based lubricants are also a no-go with latex condoms, which is relevant for both vaginal and anal sex. beyond that it's all a matter of personal preference!
