Once Brennan specified to Riz that Kipperlilly didn't have a scar I knew exactly how all the revivifying would play out. To me it makes perfect sense that Kipperlilly is the only one to stay permanently dead. Not mortalistically, but remember this is a story. Penelope Everpetal and Dayne also stayed permanently dead too. Riz shot off Buzz's fingers. The key thing is Brennan said that Kipperlilly didn't have a scar, she didn't die and then chose Ankarna, she chose to side with Porter first. Similarly to Penelope and Dayne. Where all three of them ultimately still manipulated by other forces using them? Yes. But they fundamentally chose their side because of something they wanted to gain. When Brennan made that distinction between Kipperlilly and the others, it was obvious where that was going.
Brennan wouldn't have crafted a narrative of manipulation just to kill all the Rat Grinders because that wouldn't have been very satisfying, given that we knew so little about them why would we cheer for Ivy to stay dead or Mary Ann? Remember: The cast was only talking about Atonement and revivifying Mary Ann, but Brennan revivified all the others too even though they weren't shown to have a change of heart. This is because, while possibly jerks, the others weren't set-up to be so bad that their perma-deaths would have been all that satisfying.
In contrast, Kipperlily's beef with everyone was front and center and she killed her own party member. If Kipperlilly was going to come back and be redeemed after that it would have felt cheap. Not because of something inherent to Kipperlily but because no one did the work to make that a possibility. NOW, if someone had been in her dreams and putting in the work like Fig did for Rueben, it could have worked. But people didn't put in the works. FANS have extrapolated sympathetic angles for Kipperlilly but the narrative hasn't. Remember Aelwyn's redemption only came after Adaine was exploring it. Thus, since no one explored Kipperlily's redemption, it wasn't "text," it wasn't an angle present in the narrative that would have been satisfying because it didn't develop enough to have a conclusion.
Basically: Narratives have to be set up. Some permanent consequences had to be dealt to the Rat Grinders to feel satisfying given everything they had done to the Bad Kids. Kipperlilly was shown to be the most voluntarily antagonistic, and was the one set-up as having been antagonizing them and so she was the one who had die. If the players had made different choices, thing could have changed, but they didn't and so Brennan merely delivered on what was set up before
#dimension 20#dimension 20 spoilers#fantasy high#hoping this can squash some controversy#ALSO wanting to explore different narratives (like where Kipperlilly lives) or thinking that would be a fun angle isn't the same as harping#on the cast for doing the wrong thing or at Brennan for his choices. Fanfic is all about new angles the authors didn't take!#It's important to respect BOTH the players and their choices and people's right to be curious about how alternatives could have played out#What I'm saying is that narratively the decisions made perfect sense and people acting like they can't understand why/how this happened are#maybe not really considering how a narrative is strucutured

What systems would you recommend to replicate the feel of shounen animes or hacknslash video games?
Depending on the level of crunch you want, there's a number I could see myself recommending:
Clash by @sabrinahawthorne is on the lighter side and more focused on genre emulation. It explicitly goes for emulating the story beats and strucuture of shonen battle anime and is mostly about one-on-one battles! It's currently also being crowdfunded on Crowdfundr!
Valor is on the crunchier side and gives a lot of power to players to build their characters and powers via point budgets instead of being limited to classes and archetypes. A very interesting tactical combat system with lots of nods to action anime.
Beacon is also a crunchier tactical combat focused one that differs from Valor in the sense that it has classes, so instead of spending lots of points players will be making discrete character creation choices. It's also very heavily inspired by Final Fantasy games, especially XIV!
Anima Prime is another lighter one! It's a game that is heavily about combat and resource management, and takes lots of explicit influence from JRPGs and anime. It's also free! Haven't had a chance to play it, but I've heard great things about it!

I'm going on Anon because i'm a bit shy about this but, I've seen a lot of Githyanki official art and fan made stuff and i was wondering if Githyanki can be fat? I supposed that since its a warrior race genetically engineered (twice!) to fight that they probably wouldn't have a high fat to body mass ratio However i *really* wanna make a fat githyanki oc Is there a way i can justify it in universe? Thank you!!!
Hey anon and thank you so much for messaging me about this. I'm so touched and happy to answer this!
I wanted to preface this first of all with:
you never need a reason to make, or have, a character fat. They just can be!! Because you want them to!! Fat isn't a bad word, just a descriptor. And I hope after this you can happily make a wonderful, gorgeous fat githyanki character who I can't wait to see!
-------
Okay. Now, moving on to lore and narratives and in universe reasons - it can absolutely be done.
As a detail orientated writer, I am a stickler for: consistency believability (doesn't have to be REAL or something 1:1 from our world just believable IN world etc)
NOTE: D&D has many different versions and inconsistences in lore, and my narrative consolidates in the BG3 5e verse, while taking parts from older versions I like and fitting them to make sense in my verse that I'm creating and expanding from BG3.
Much ramblings and answers under the cut :3 enjoy
TW: talk about bodies, fatphobia (kinda), genetic engineering
Okay so, we know at least in all verses that githyanki were genetically engineered twice (illithids first, then Vlaakith(s) with the change to eggs, and streamlining their race to become superior, powerful etc), and their race as has been documented and described by others in universe, and in source books, is tall, thin, long limbs, bony, and they seem in similar strucuture to illithids.
This makes a lot of sense in the way that the illithids were probably breeding them to become perfect hosts for their tadpoles and ceremorphosis, from what they see their bodies turn into. And we know that illithids have specific body types they seek out for their own perfection, whether we like it or not.
Vanquish is fat. It doesn't hinder her whatsoever. In-fact Voss is drawn to her a lot because of it and finds such beauty in her fatness and the softness of her skin. This does allude to fatness not being common in githyanki and something he likes about istik and her. And yeah, you can make it uncommon in githyanki! That's fine! But it still CAN happen in githyanki.
So for lore reasons to have a fat githyanki character I think there are many ways you could easily do it:
1: Independent githyanki. This githyanki could have, for example, been raised by non-githyanki, and therefore has not had a life subjected to their stringent training, diet, routine etc, and eventual life between Material and Astral which would and does effect things like their digestive system. Having their body adjusted from birth to a different environment could start to alter their body's stubborn pre-disposition to a low body fat %. Also, not constantly living in a kind of hypervigilance and violence the githyanki seem to live in may just let the body relax.
2: Different creches and planes Coming a little from the above idea - and from my genitals HC about variance in their bodies - I think that their can be and IS differences in their bodies depending on the creche they were born in, and also plane.
For example, being nearer to void magic, in a volatile climate, low gravity, colder climate etc. For a githyanki growing up in a colder climate, having more body fat would be better for them (if we take into account OUR biology, but they are aliens and their bodies probably work differently to ours. For instance they are SO strong even being so very thin dkfjdf etc). But honestly, it doesn't matter the reasoning. Some creches could just give variance in body type because they CAN and this is magic and magic does shit like this and for the past hundreds and thousands of years this is how the bodies of githyanki from Creche An'vak are, like the ears from those from Creche Ishk often split at the end.
They just are.
3: Genetic anomaly If you like the theory that their low body fat and frame is deeply bred and genetically engineered etc into them, this works. Because genetic anomalies happen all the time, so githyanki being born and retaining body fat and getting fat, much fatter than we see them as, could definitely just happen.
Depending on how cruel you view the githyanki as a whole, or that particular creche, or even if that githyanki wasn't raised in a creche etc (lots of possibilities), once the varsh sees that their body is developing different to how they 'should' be, then they may be discarded as a liability, or you can work many different and creative narrative ways into how and why they survive. (For example, once they see that their body doesn't hinder their ability to fight, then why dispose of them?)
I'm sure there are many, many other ways I'm not thinking about, but these are some of the main ways that I would probably write about and would come up in my narratives.
4: Wild Card! Githyanki/istik child. This also raises several other complciations and questions of how githyanki and other races could reproduce (that's for another huge post LOL) but, since in the future Vanquish and Orpheus have a kid (an heir, technically) it would be remiss of me to not mention this. And well, a mixed githyanki kid, too, could be fat!
Also, depending on the part of their timeline I'm writing in (for example, during their enslavement, directly after, now) the reasoning and frequency of fat githyanki can be different to me in the narrative.
I hope this helped a lot, anon. If you have any more questions or want to ask anything else, please, please let me know! This was a LOT of fun to write. Thank you! x

Okay nerds, actual comments time now that ive had time to mentally prepare for this cluster fuck
1- screws and gluestick: just no. no. Screws are structurally rated for their entire length to be *inside* whatever youre screwing it into. So by having a 1/2in bottom of the screw in, and hte rest holding up that shelf? that shelf aint gonna be up long. The rule of thumb for overhands is 1/3 of the length can overhang (or in this case, stick out). This is mostly for residential wood construction, but since youre building what looks to be an ikea bookshelf, theoretically it can be applied here without it breaking. Gluestick is still dumb. don’t those get sticky after being exposed to air for a very long time?
2- Screw + Washer + seatbelt (looks like an old 90s Delta Airlines seatbelt that i threw up on as a kid so already, negative association). This has the structural integrity of frayed dental floss. The only part of the seatbelt holding up that plank is where the screw it, the load isn’t spread out across the whole belt. Also, that thing is gonna fray and then BOOM ur very expensive DeWalt (always buy DeWalt, they’re QUALITY, this is an Anti-Milwaukee Blog) compound torque drill is gonna be on the floor where I will be able to permanently borrow it where I will love it. Finally, drilling a hole into the seat belt is a strucutural flaw. it gone RIP. that washer isnt going to save this.
3- Actual real carpentry hack: yeah. technically. but also why are you connecting a 1x2 to whatever hte fuck that little thing is? they make wood this small? is this meant to be a shim? This is a real thing. but also, this is why you measure twice and cut once.
4- Double Half-Hitch Knot: yes. real thing. legit. our plumber’s apprentice did surveying and this is how he tied off stakes. Also, in my heavy civil class, i learned how to make this and this is not how I learned, but its still a double-half-hitch knot and good for securing things temporarily.
5- Pencil and LED Bulb: holy fuck no. like no. no. Fire Hazard. Graphite + Electricity is a NO-NO. this is a 1-way ticket to HELL, because everything will be on fire. Just buy a new bulb i beg you.
6- Wingnuts, a Screw, and Chains: Not kinky and just plain weird? what are they trying to do? those chains arent secure. Wingnuts aren’t made for that BS. Still puzzled. Also, THIS is the kind of screw you want if youre going to do that BS hot glue thing earlier.
7- no. I’m not dignifing this with a description. If you want to have a pulley system, use a carabiner rated for weight or buy a real pully. That PVC pipe is going to snap with any significant weight (about 20lbs? depends on the thickness), and screws are GREAT for shearing/pulling forces (not) so like. This is suitable for a pillow fort. Also, fun fact, if youre ever going to lift anything like this, and its a wide-base pulley, use a sling. sorta like the seatbelt on the going-to-rip shelf. it spreads the weight out evenly. Slings > Ropes (depending what youre doing but on a wide-base pully, yes)
8- Car Key- I guess? i mean at this point i think you have bigger problems like “what was my key made out of” and “why did it break perfectly like it was sawed”
9- Bag Thingy: Yeah. it works. or you could stuff a bunch of bags inside another.
10- Washer hanger: Washers are not made for any structural purposes. I beg you, if you want to hang a shelf, pls just go to Lowe’s or Home Depot or Ace Hardware or literally anywhere. Drilling holes in a washer is way too complicated and things like this are MADE TO HANG THINGS ON. Also I’m going to be a bitch and tell you this one was faked. it’s got a perfect right-angle when they go to screw it in and you can see some lines there that aren’t from hitting it with a hammer. I’m big sus
11- Weird Door Handle: This would be excellent for a treehouse, just saying. This is the least offensive thing after the double half-hitch knot. Don’t get me wrong, its stupid, but. its acceptable and shouldn't harm anyone.
12- Cord tying: FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR TOOLS DON’T HANG THEM BY THEIR CORDS Osha H Christ on a Cracker. Do you want internal wire breakage? this is how you get that. damages the cord. Christ this one was the jumpscare to me. started out good until they hung it by the cord. Everything else is great for cord management. but NO HANGING FROM THE CORD
13- Electrical Hazard: This is worse than the lightbulb. You know what’s great at channeling electricity? metal. you know what that wire-tie is made of? metal. and it doesn’t have any insulation. This one will legit get you killed. Also, that’s some heavy duty copper wire, a lot denser than what is used in houses, so i’ll bet that thing has a lot of power behind it. so again. No bueno.
i need a drink now.

CAS PROJECT
[pictures will be attached in separate post]
Group: Me, Tomek Krawczyk, Adam Dembiński, Wojciech Tymoczko,Stanisław Urbański
Our project - the chess tournament was mainly focused in the creativity part. We first agreed to do a podcast that was supposed to focus on problems of our (and not only) school society. However, there were some problems within our group with organization, and willingness to do it, so we had to change it. I came up with the idea of chess tournament, as all of us (in our group) like to play chess. I thought it might be easier to organise and will not require as much life values discussion. I shared my idea with the rest of my group at the beginning of september, and they all accepted. Honestly I wanted to do it as fast as possible because I'm starting to feel really a lot of pressure related to the fact that this is our last year and the exams are coming so there is generally a lot of work. Therefore I hoped that we will all immediately get to work, but of course the reality is always different from what I imagined.
The plan was, to encourage our school community to look into chess, as the torunament was welcome to every level player and to raise some money for victims of the flood that is happening right now. Unfortunatey due to low attendence (lower than expected) we were not able to raise enough money for it to be registered as a fund raise, so we did not collect the money at all and focused on the creativity aspect.
The process was honestly much harder than expected. There were many problems with cooperation within our group and I felt at times like I had to organize everything and tell everyone what to do, because if i didn't nobody would do anything. So this was the biggest obstacle I would say. I did feel lack of support in my group for most of the time, but admittedly they organised themselves at the end and everybody did they part.
My responsibility was mainly to organize everything with our school authorities, so I needed an agreement from Mr. Mazur to take the aula at 6th floor. I also had to find the most appropriate date, create the form for siging up and design our poster. Wojtek was responsible for printing and hanging the posters, Tomek helped me with organizing the structure of the swiss tournament (Even though i have playe din tournaments like this before i did not realise how complicated their strucuture is, because you have to match the players on amount of the points they get and their elo score.) and Adam and Stasiek were responsible for organizing the aula and chess boards and timers.
Generally not everybody that signed up showed up, whcih was dissapointing. But the atmoshpere overall was quite positive, for people who were less (or not at all) experienced we organised some shrt lesons about the tactics and openings in chess, and I generally see the tournament as a success that helped us to unite (even if only by a bit) the school community

The strucuture is exactly 10x bigger than a carton of milk. The rectangular shape of the carton is 80 inches x 30 inches.I added what I was calling "seam allowance" and that I could attach the cardboard to each other in a way that gave the structure some solidity while the gum tape was drying. I them joined two pieces together and allowed them to dry whilst balancing between two chairs.

I cut out a door on the otherside to play on the idea of milk being a BIG household item (in my house anyways). I had some ideas to line it with paper and make it interactive and allow people to come in and write down the small disruptions in their lives that are easier to talk about then the real big problems but someone brought up the real possibility of people drawing penises all over it and I wanted to move on with this piece. I also discovered that I HATE the feeling of gum paper.

Finally I stuck both sides together and added some cardboard folded into triangles into the creases to give the piece enough strength to stand on its own. I found that it wasn't holding its rectangular shape very well so i cut some cardboard with a 30x30 base with seam allowance to slide into the bottle. This made the whole structure stand really well and its super sturdy. It’s easily picked up and moved around and doesnt feel like its going to break. All that’s left is to make the lid.
