"6,500 BUILDINGS ON WAY, AND CARPENTERS' STRIKE," Toronto Star. June 2, 1913. Page 1. ---- About $200,000 Per Year Involved in Their Difference With Employers - What Break Means in Delaying Building Operations in a Big, Hustling City. ---- CAREFUL ESTIMATES FROM THE CITY ARCHITECTS DEPARTMENT ---- Men Work Closely With Those of Other Trades, and Number of Idle Will Be Greatly Increased From Other Branches of Labor on the Jobs. ---- Building contracts in Toronto totalling three million dollars, may be affected by the carpenters strike. Below is a list of the principal buildings now being erected. They total $2,097.99, and a third more may be allowed for the factories, warehouses, shops, and dwellings.
Since the beginning of the year trusting permits have been issued by the municipality to a value of $12,0000. If it he assumed that a quarter of these buildings have been completed, se value of construction now on band is $3,000,000, about the same estimate as genuinely given. This takes to account of buildings which have bean under my since last year. The permits issued last month alone totaled 200. Most the contracts can go on for some time without carpenters, and the number the may be held up depends on the length of the strike, the longer the strike the more will be stopped.

I will say I get the vibe that a lot of peoples interest and support for strikers is a bit too much for a vicarious ‘burn it down’ thrill, rather than for the actual goals of a strike.
Like UPS has agreed to come back to the table and it is very possible they will concede to Union demands and avert a strike. And if that happens (so long as the union does not make concessions on its key demands) it’s a good thing. It’s a victory for the laborers. It is the same ultimate conclusion that a strike would intend to produce except without the workers having to go on (not so great) strike pay for a week or two.

That feeling when, after 33 years of Heavily Implied Situationship, a canon romance is established and then imploded in 3 minutes flat as a plot device to set up the final act of a trilogy for which there is as of yet no confirmed third part.

It's 1 in the morning and for whatever reason I am imagining the servants of Hades (i.e. Charon, the Furies, ect) unionizing.

I'm sorry your LQG design is too cunty. He would never wear a choker or makeup, unless someone insists for like a mission & he still wouldn't get why they think he should. He gets an undercut to everyone horror cause it takes less time to wash. His autistic swag is too powerful for customs & fashion he doesn't see the point of & he will tell you that straight too your face. I'm sorry.
nice headcanon but have you considered that I have mine 😂 I like giving all of the Peaks distinct aesthetics while still keeping them somewhat connected and I love LQG being the kinda gay that puts care into himself only to pretend he doesn't care. Not to mention that he'd want to look "tough" to go with his brawlery persona, but also he's a lord so you have to make it fancy in a way. I imagine the choker being part of his disciples look though, their robes simpler but this is like "their" recognisable design.
Regarding makeup I think I'd like him bare-faced too but his wiki page constantly described how doll-like he is and men of status always have something to separate them from the rest and to look even "better", though this is the one thing I may change indeed 🤔 he'd just look too good with bare lip and huge beautiful eyes

So apparently the new stance redditors have on the byler sign now it’s that it was indeed a writer who made it, but they wrote it to “make fun of byler shippers”.
Seriously the echo chamber they live in is hilarious

"LINEMEN STILL OUT," Hamilton Spectator. April 23, 1913. Page 10. ---- Refused to Accept Cataract's Offer of 32 1-2 Cents ---- The linemen of the Dominion Power and Transmission company who went out on strike Monday had another meeting with Manager Coleman yesterday afternoon, when the original offer of 32 1/2 cents an hour was again presented to the men. They refused to accept it. The strikers said they would accept 34 cents, an hour, the same as is, being paid Hydro linemen, with the understanding that this be increased whenever the Hydro men were granted an increase. They were urged by Mr. Coleman to accept the offer of 32½ cents, with the verbal understanding that they would be increased to the 34 cent rate in the near future. This offer the company would not put in writing, and the men refused to return to work.
"We have nothing further to say to the company, the matter is now entirely in their hands and we will not return to work until the 34 cent schedule has been granted with an additional signed agreement that this will be increased from time to time as the Hydro advances its scale," said a member of the strikers' committee this morning.

Unfortunately, one major reason streamers like Netflix don’t plan on breaking any time soon in the strike, is because it could have the potential to inspire others to fight for fair pay if it ended up being fairly easy for the writers to do it.
They would rather wait it out for as long as they can, making writers risk financial ruin, so that they have no choice but to agree to a deal that is, at best, half of what they were initially asking.
This means that going into this strike, from Netflix’s pov, it could go on until September, at least, and they would be fine with that.
They assume that by then, writers will have been picketing for 4+ months, without pay, and won’t be able to go on for much longer.
Upon being asked about the impending strike a few weeks prior to it starting, Ted Sarandos said that they have at least 6 months of backlog set in stone. And so apparently, he’s comfortable with sitting it out that long at least.
Though, it is worth saying that as bleak as it all sounds, we’re 3 weeks in and there is a lot of support for the writers. With how bad things are PR wise for Netflix, one could argue they might just say fuck it were used to it and push through. However at the same time, they’ve been struggling with subscriber growth a lot more than ever before, they could be on the brink of risking it all regardless. So if they come to realize fighting this fight as posing a serious risk for them in the short term and long term, something they definitely don’t want to have to admit to their investors at the next conference, they’ll need to get their shit together sooner than later.
I know it’s frustrating to imagine the strike still going on late into 2023, but if we can put our heads together now, this early on still, maybe it won’t have to be that long?
It really does feel like there’s nothing we can do, but showing support and informing others about it so it doesn’t just dwindle to background chatter is a start!

Sorry they had Max Verstappen pointing to the Honda sign (like I almost bought a Civic off the big dick energy) and breaking every record known to man while appearing in their commercials and just being THAT guy…and they wouldn’t let RB out of having a Honda driver and then ditched them only to go to Aston and allow them to keep Lance?
Does not sit right with me.

every writing community should be standing in solidarity — if not actively protesting — with the wga right now.
and it’s honestly sickening to see people saying a.i. and other formats could create good work to replace what these beautiful humans create.

global strikes really cannot feasibly be done without support and safety nets for the working class in place. the working class drives the economy and if you are asking people to take off an entire week off work with 4 days notice, you are asking the working class to get fired from their jobs. they are not going to do that. and they are the majority of the people that need to strike to have any kind of economic impact. middle class people who can afford to strike for a week and lose future vacation time aren't going to dent it, esp bc they're still making money bc they're salaried.
like yall it's just..... it's not feasible. you have to plan months, sometimes years in advance to make sure you can successfully carry the working class during a strike.
saw someone refer to a week long strike w 4 days notice as "the bare minimum" you can do and I'm sorry but it's not. you are asking people to give up a quarter of their monthly income and lose their jobs. you need to be cognizant of that.
