August Prompts Day 31 Street Address
It doesn’t matter if it is on
Main Street
High Street
Or
Across town
We know it is going to be
Spectacular
For He is preparing it for us
One day soon
He will carry us home
Our new street address
Will be forever
Better yet
It will be eternally with Him.

For the au ask game! Sabezra in a *flips through my au ideas list* private detectives au
so. yeah. this. this is egregiously late. But it's HERE! At long last!
....to be entirely honest I don't even know what this is. it's sabezra. they're private detectives. let's just leave it at that.
---
"Ezra, what are you doing?"
Her partner in preventing crime (and occasional partner in actual crime---they may or may not have broken into a house once; no one could prove anything) had stopped in the middle of the grim alleyway, staring at nothing in particular.
"Sabine..." he said slowly. "I think this is where I met you."
Sabine did a double-take, looking around with keen eyes. The place didn't seem familiar, but she'd been so distracted on that day, she probably wouldn't know it if she was there.
"Is it?" she asked, strolling back to him, hiking up her long skirt and stepping cautiously around the filth on the ground. "You think so?"
"Mm-hm." A nostalgic smile twitched at the corner of his mouth. "You know, I've still got the handkerchief you gave me."
Sabine grinned at him. "Of course you do. You were in the throes of violent yearning. You couldn't bear to part with it."
"And my nose was still bleeding."
"That too."
"And if you recall, I did try to give it back to you---later." His smile grew proud. "Tracked you down with just your monogram and a glimpse at your face. First bit of detecting I ever did."
Sabine slipped her arm through his, hopping lightly over something that could have been a filthy rag or maybe the carcass of a large rat, as they continued on their trek towards home. The streets cleared up when they got to the main roads, but there was still the inevitable splash of mud.
Mud was everywhere in London.
"I thought you might have been a princess when I saw you on the stairs then," he blurted out, and she tilted her head up to look at him from beneath the brim of her large flowered hat. He gave her a sweetly bashful smile and a shrug. "With those big white puffs in your hair---"
"Ostrich feathers," she filled in automatically, turning her attention back to the pavement and nodding politely to a gentleman and lady who passed by them.
"---and that white dress, too." Ezra laughed to himself. "Golly, you're lucky you kept it. Your old lady wasn't gonna give you a nickel for another one."
Sabine squeezed his arm affectionately. "I could have worn any dress."
"Well, no one would have thought it was a proper wedding if we hadn't got you in white."
"No one thought it was a proper wedding when we did," she retorted. "They thought I was degrading myself."
"Then the joke is on them, because I hit the big time pretty well, didn't I?"
Sabine arched an eyebrow. "You wouldn't have amounted to anything if I hadn't got us into the illustrated papers."
Ezra paused on the pavement as they reached the steps of their lodgings, looking thoughtful.
"You're right. I wouldn't have."
"Then it seems you're lucky you've got me."
He looked right into her eyes and grinned boyishly, slipping into his most intolerably trans-Atlantic accent. "We do make a pretty bang-up team, don't we?"
"A jolly good one," she nodded in prim agreement, adopting an obnoxiously posh tone, and they both giggled, smiling at each other for a moment more before a distant clock chimed the quarter of the hour, reminding them that they were on a schedule.
"Well, I suppose we had best go on in. Our client will be here any minute now."
"I guess so."
And with that, the unstoppable team of Bridger and Bridger ascended the steps of their home at 221b Spectre Street, arm-in-arm.
#hrrrgrhrhgh I have so much backstory and lore for them in this au that doesn't all fit in a snippet like this#needless to say I most likely will have to write a LOT more of this AU because I am overflowing with ideas#221b spectre street au#sabezra#ficlet#I started so many snippets for this before I actually came up with one that worked#I wrote a snippet where they met for the first time#I wrote a snippet where they were having breakfast together and teasing each other about their respective accents#I wrote TWO snippets where they reunite after he fakes his death for three years (one from each pov)#I wrote a snippet where they were just sitting around pining after each other#and they're not even doing any detecting in the one that I did finish so RIP to me I guess#but I really do like how this one turned out in the end!#oh yeah in case it's not clear (which it may not have been because I am often bad at being clear) this is a Sherlock-Holmes-inspired-AU#thus the 221b spectre street address!#except. like. also Frances Hodgson Burnett influenced. mostly in that Ezra is American and occasionally slangy in the style of G. Selden#which is still fitting though because the shuttle and sherlock holmes happen concurrently!#but I digress

I want to love and support postal service workers during this stressful time. And I do. However it's hard when they do some things
#yesterday there was a package on my porch for someone who lives fully a block away on a different street#i have something coming that was marked ''out for delivery'' Saturday and is now marked ''at fedex facility''. hm#also i think this would be easier if my mailman were reliable most of the time but he's not#he can't be bothered to turn his head and look at our house to see if we have mail to go out#so sometimes it just sits there for days if he doesn't have to come up to the porch#and he just refuses to take away not at this address mail. leaves it there.#oh well. i bought so many stamps this week!#and you know who i DO appreciate. the lovely man at the small town post office who always apologizes#once for someone being mildly rude to him in front of me and once just for a minor wait. in december! he's so nice

1812: A sailor takes a routine trip to London, unaware that this would be the last time he'd ever see Flanders. Many lasts were soon to follow.
1861: A boy proudly joins on with the Royal Navy, signing his new name for the very first time. This is a first of many ill-advised decisions.
I can lie and say that the last ES has me thinking about what my characters looked like back on the surface, but it's actually because of a WIP sent to me by an artist I will not name.
#my art#ockham#roberts/nite#i always forget that roberts was 13 when he had that whole ship ordeal#or rather i forgot what kids actually look like#and now i feel absolutely terrible about it#he should be skipping down the street with a minecraft backpack#not experiencing The Horrors#and i've decided that surface!ockham probably used he/him#the same one probably still does so but he's in absolutely no state at the moment to communicate his preferences#irrespective of the parabolan reflection#who's got a 'yes' situation going on#but has bigger things to worry about than people's chosen form of address#unnamed artist you know who you are#and if you’re reading this I’m still incredibly unwell about your [redacted] drawing#ockham ref#roberts

Always nice to mark more folks safe in these conditions.
#for the curious:#Ron's general assumed vicinity was never under threat#Russell's general assumed vicinity was under a potential evacuation warning which has since been lifted#caveat/disclaimer: I don't know any addresses- this is based on me watching TSB and going “Hey that's [this street and-or region]...”#and the possibility that I may have run into Ron at a particular Trader Joe's on more than one occasion

do you have any sweet Steven headcanon??
I have many MANY Steven headcanons.
Steven likes to read out loud to Layla. Stories or news articles or just little things he finds interesting. He always reads with great emphasis. He gives characters unique voices and reads with emotion.
Marc pretends to think it's stupid but secretly loves it. Jake is always quietly listening in the back and Steven thinks maybe Jake is annoyed by it, but when he stops, Jake is always the first to tell him to keep going.
This comes from Steven's love of sharing his interests (info dumping to an extreme). He could be explaining how tape is made and it would sound like the most interesting thing in the world.
Another one? Steven has no idea why stray animals follow him around. Dogs and cats and even crows will leave him trinkets or yell at him if he rushes past without saying hello.
He eventually figures out that Marc has been petting the dogs and Jake has been feeding the crows. The cats just come to them naturally. Steven addresses all animals as if he were talking to a proper lady or gent. "Well hello my fine feathered friend. You're looking very preened today." Or "Ah yes, Mr. Fluff. What a lovely tail you have there. Bet all the lady cats are lining up for a chat with you, huh?" "Oh what a brave little barker you are. Got something more to say? Oh yeah? Tell me all about it. What a good barker you are."
#I have more than I could ever possibly share#Ask away#Talk to me about Moon Knight#Jake talks to the animals like a Mafia boss ordering around his soldiers#except for that one cat down the street who is clearly head hancho and Is addressed only as “Sir”#Marc just lays down on the ground and the animals come to sit next to him#Steven once woke up covered in squirrels and had to give everyone a chat about feeding wildlife rules

Next up on This Day Is Weird And It Isn't Even Nine O'Clock yet: I ordered a book from Ebay back in November and got a refund because of complicated issues with the seller never actually sending it. This morning I get an email saying that the book is out for delivery and will arrive today. The tracking indicates that it was sent earlier this week, from a completely different state than the one in which the label was created back in November.
I got my money back for this item. The seller is no longer registered on Ebay, so I can't contact them. We'll see when the package actually arrives--will it actually contain the book? will there be an explanatory note or something? But yeah, this is going to be interesting to navigate.
#random personal stuff#the seller had failed to send the book and I had reported it unreceived#seller messaged me at almost the last minute to say that he had been in jail and had just now got his stuff back from his girlfriend#and would send it out the next day#and he did not#so I got a refund and he apparently dropped off the face of the earth#there's got to be a fascinating story behind whatever's supposed to show up on my doorstep today#(or my neighbor's doorstep - lately the mail carrier is convinced that her place is mine despite its facing the wrong street for my address

just had to submit a ticket to IT (new email filter hates one specific listserv SO much but instead of just dumping all the messages in spam it is putting each individual one in "quarantine" which i must then go into and "release." one by one. daily.) and had to write the word "november" and just dropped the whole middle of the word. yes hello my email last functioned in a non-irritating way on nober 20th. pleas hlp.
#it's a GOOD listserv i LIKE it#i emailed it as soon as i noticed it and they ignored me#emailed again today and somebody responded telling me that it wasn't their problem and i had to email somebody else entirely#AND they addressed me by my birth name instead of chosen which is the name that i have all over my professional contact info#andy from it if we meet in the street i will kick u :)#evelyn carnahan cosplay career

Are the 3s people (YunYang Elena etc) teenagers?? Sorry I just notice you call them kiddos and teens a lot. I always thought they were like in the 19-21 age range??
great question! in the original sf3, they are teenagers, around the 15-18 age range. i only have “canon” proof (in air quotes bc capcom loves ignoring its own canon) for the kids introduced in new generation but according to a sf3 developer q&a:
https://x.com/Scotia834/status/175999102270745419

elena is 17

sean is also 17

ibuki is in high school

and there’s no canon age for twins, but they’re presumably around the same age based on presentation. they’re literally designed to be “cool kid skaters.” i’ve generally seen them being called 16 or 17, but they’re younger than alex (maybe, it’s complicated there’s this magazine that says he’s 17 in sfv which…what the actual fuck no he isn’t that’s a grownass man i refuse to believe this piece of information)
most of the confusion come from the fact that sf4 rebooted the entire series, so you’re gonna get the tallest 12 and 13 year olds you’ve ever seen in your goddamn life.
so because of the retcon, i could totally see it being the case that “uh actually they were 15/16 in sf4 so now they’re 19/20 in sf3” because god knows they didn’t think of shit before putting twins and elena in that game. especially since, in sf6 they’d be nearing their 30s, and if their last appearance in the timeline was as teenagers, it’d be an even bigger jump.
so really, the current canon could be whatever, though i’m leaning towards very early 20s at the latest.
also, i just have a habit of calling characters i like kiddos because i develop extremely strong maternal instincts for any character i like
#street fighter#mr president’s state of the union address#i usually like to make them 18/19 since being 16/17 comes with a level of teenage angst i am not equipped to write#also because i take psychic damage any time a capcom artist draws ibuki weird and there is at least some plausible deniability with her#BUT NOT SAKURA AND THEY DO TJAT ANYWAY#mr president interviews

#the address is written in a super pretty legible way#as is 'dear Ferdinand' and the date#everything else? ~~~~#doddie redet#well. 'address'. it says 'Family [name] in [town]'#and there's a postal stamp on it that says 'please don't forget to put the street and house number!'
