What I would give...

For a grilled chicken breast, not beef neck or veal sauce, pork knee or cow stomach just a plain grilled chicken breast. We are almost to the half way point in this trip, which is hard to believe. We are finding at this point we are starting to miss some comfort food like grilled chicken, mac n’ cheese, Mexican food and a nice simple cup of coffee that came from beans not freeze dried instant stuff or expresso. Not that I haven’t found ways to enjoy and appreciate the foods of Europe but sometimes you just want what you know. Reminds me of when I lived in Japan and we would get shipments of Mac n Cheese from home that we’d savor because it was familiar. Speaking of Mac n Cheese Maclaren has been in search of it in every store we’ve been in. I tried to make her some one night but it wasn’t the same. For now we laugh about having strawberry juice because there wasn’t orange juice or mango strawberry jam because there wasn’t mixed berry or just strawberry. One thing we can always find is eggs and bread and we can have eggs and toast for breakfast every day. There is also the fresh fruits and vegetables which help fill the void. I will say the kids have been awesome about trying different foods and finding things we like that we may never have again like the Turkk Piazza in Berlin that was a wrap with chicken and vegetable with a mediterranean flare and was delicious. So as you all enjoy that hot dog or burger for your July 4th celebration savor it for us too. I’m not sure I trust what would be in a hot dog in Prague.

Travel Tip #2: Try the local food, but don’t ask what it is. 

It is important to eat what the locals of the country eat just so that you can have that extra layer of cultural experience. The thing is that the local food just might not sit well with you mentally. So my advice is don’t ask what you are eating. Well at least until you have finished up the meal. 

The food could be something you would not think to eat normally. You might look at the food and think “Wow, that looks and smells good.”, but then you make the mistake of asking about it you don’t want to try it after you know. However if you don’t ask what it is you might realize that in fact not only did it look and smell good, but it also tastes good as well. 

Granted you could be eating it and think it has a strange texture, and spend the time trying to figure out what it is drawing a blank. Only to ask the street food vender and find out that it is Spicy Pig Brain Soup, and now that you know you are unable to finish off your meal as you are eating a brain. On the other hand it is rude not to finish the food, and the guy is now staring at you with a happy expression as you are guilt tripped into struggling through eating the rest with the knowledge you are in fact eating a brain. 

The point is that if you don’t ask people what you are eating until after you finish, you don’t end up unable to eat the food and possibly upsetting someone.

Taiwan 🇹🇼 became 1 of my top 5 countries to visit in Asia. Their diverse, funny, and many times strange food made it a unique experience. This #travelfoodie is of a restaurant in which the food is served in toilets, yeap 😅 TOILETS 🚽. The name of the restaurant is Modern Toilet and is a nice tourist eccentricity 😅😅 in which the main attraction are toilets. The food of this restaurant is okay, not the best of the country, but you’ll get many reactions on your stories of this place. Travel tip #12: Have a food that you eat everywhere. 

Now why would I want a food that I eat everywhere? Well it is a taste test. Even if it is something you can find in every country it never tastes the same. They use different spices, ways of cooking, different ingredients, preparation of the meat differs by culture, etc... 

However my favorite food to try in every country is Ice Cream! You have you Ben and Jerry’s ice cream from the US. The extremely flavorful Galotto ice cream from Europe [ Best from Italy in my opinion ]. The interesting Dondurma ice cream from Turkey [ Smells, tastes, and looks like ice cream but doesn’t feel like ice cream ]. The thousand in one flavors of ice cream from China that probably should not have been made into ice cream. The oh so amazing tasting coconut ice cream from Thailand. The Camel milk ice cream from Dubai...

I may have gone off on a rant about ice cream [ now I really want some ], but you see my point. That one thing that I try in every place I go to has ended up with me experiencing the food culture of the country. Sure my choice is ice cream but hey you can pick anything. My brother’s test is hamburgers. Now that he could go off on a rant about.
