Papa Liko and Marshall just got gifted Kalo! They about to holoholo right where they are at #wailua. Be a haumana #learntolearn , we practice volunteer and stewardship , and we make work fun. Volunteers needed at Wailua to help to setting workspace, identify your food (choice taro), cleanse, sanitize, learn to grow kalo. Decades ago we started from scratch from Hanalei to Mana ( and Napali) and most of the time at camp outside, paradise doesn’t happen over night. As spring flooding occurs, taro will grow. As papas beat the overgrowth of weeds, there is room to breath; the last teaching of Wainiha how to diversify their farm independently , and helping wailua mauka meet its diverse deadline and moonphases, the invasive and dead trees around island get chopped down and sheds light to the space this island has. This time Papa Liko is excited to open these bands and work with his new honorary hoikaika warrior and friend hoaaloha , Marshall. Kupuna will be watching you and talk story. Ever since I watched the mini-documentary, “The Story of Stuff,” I’ve become more aware of the destructive capitalist machine that is buying things, throwing them away and buying new things (and stripping the Earth of natural resources and polluting what remains in the process). It’s made me less inclined to throw things away, even when they’re things I don’t use, and they’re tiny, and probably I could recycle them. I owe all my friends an apology for the photos I’ve texted them with the caption, ‘can you use this?’
