Some timeskip Gavinor and Oroden doodles …
Something about Oroden “Child of peace” and an unhinged Gav really makes me think they’d be a fun duo lmao 🥲

I feel quite mean when I say that I want Lift to feel very guilty about what happened to Gavinor. Because that’s putting an unproportional amount of blame on her
But I really do wish that she does. Her actions during day two where irresponsible and childish to a degree that she is way too old to be able to excuse. And unlike most other instances of Lifts funny shenanigans of refusing to do what she is told, this time it had severe life altering consequences that can never be fixed
And I really hope that this is the turning point for her of finally accepting change and growing up to a degree. Because wether you like it or not, when you’re not the youngest, when there is someone looking up to you and you let yourself be in that position. You have a responsibility to a degree and can’t just run off and break the rules whoever you want or give dangerous advice

Timelines are confusing me, someone help me out:
- Hoid shows up briefly as Wax's coach driver in Shadow of Self and then disappears again
- In Bands of Mourning, the kanda mention Harmony is distracted by another shard threatening his territory--presumably this is Retribution's formation and everything going down in Roshar
- Hoid is Actively Involved in those events on Roshar, and yet in the middle of it all he takes the time to visit Scadrial to throw a coin at Wax
- Lost Metal takes place fully after Wind and Truth, with Hoid being fully employed on Wax's staff again, and I believe I mention of Roshar being unreachable.
But how does the timeline all line up? Is Hoid in two places at once? I'd believe that honestly. He's got this thing about being where he needs to be, did he get yoinked from Roshar for a second to throw stuff at Wax? And the interview process at the end of Wind and Truth--was that for the first or second time he's Wax's driver?

Maybe the Horneater ability to see spren isn't actually hereditary. Rock describes it as a gift only given to a select few, and these Sighted seem to overlap with those who guard Cultivation's well of power. What if Unkalaki of a certain social standing are allowed to cross Cultivation's perpendicularity in order to give birth in Shadesmar? Maybe that's how they ensure that the guardians are able to see all beings that go in or out of the pool. Yes, you have to be born to it, but you have more control over it than you would get with selective breeding.
So if Shallan is pregnant and she gives birth in Shadesmar, maybe her child will be able to see all spren

I am so hyped for Lift in the back half of stormlight. Post-timeskip she'll be older than Kal and Shallan were in the first arc, and we've already been told that she has an insane amount of raw potential. Add years of training with Zahel to that plus the fact that she might be the only radiant that can function outside of Urithiru? She's going to be a force to be reckoned with.
AND she for sure blames herself for Gav, so I'm interested to see how that will affect her character, that's a big trauma. And I really want to learn more about her mom/her backstory and the edgedancer oaths. I'm just so excited for grown Lift.

even if you knew it was coming (and i KNEW it was coming from the second i learned there'd be a timeskip between stormlight 5-6) the dull blow of the 'hinting at a pregnancy for your main female character right before a timeskip' trope still hurt a bit. bro she's like 20. she JUST learned that when she committed matricide as a child (a plot point that she repressed so hard that even though we the readers knew she killed her mom in book one. two? we learned new facts about it every single book as she unpeeled her own psyche) she kickstarted the apocalypse. can we give her a couple of years please.

Since there's going to be a 10-year timeskip, Renarin and Rlain might be married when we meet them again in Stormlight 6 and I am deeply unwell over this

I... I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS
But I struggle to put my thoughts into words because they're generally incoherent when I have them lol. Spoilers for Brandon Sanderson's Wind and Truth, and potential spoilers for Sunlit Man;
First of all: SIGZIL AND SZETH'S SPREN! The highspren isn't... they don't follow Sigzil into the events of Sunlit Man, right?? Its been too long since I've read sunlit man (even though it like just came out) to know for sure but like wow that is devastating
I WAS ACTUALLY NOT EXPECTING DALINAR TO GET HONOR (for reasons, mostly that I thought it'd be interesting to see someone else gain the power). Everything surrounding those events felt both so out of left field but made so much sense and I cannot explain to you how my stomach dropped at this
Tumblr media
So proud of Kal becoming the therapist Roshar doesn't deserve but needs.
Really interested to see how the rest of the Archives pans out. Like this has been building to become a Cosmere-level playing field, so I wonder if we'll see some familiar shards come back into play.
It's interesting to me that Mistborn's first era ended so neatly, with its second era beginning after a huge timeskip with generally completely different characters, whereas Stormlight feels like it'll continue relatively soon after Wind and Truth (a few decades at most, maybe)
Also, waiting for Moash to rejoin the plot line like a tree into a speeding car.
I had more thoughts but head empty
Thanks for listening to my Ted talk XD

I read like 60 pages yesterday without note-taking, biggest takeaways:
The Stone is talking to Venli like the Wind is talking to Kaladin!
The Wind is looking for a “champion” for itself and the spren, obv to be Kaladin.
Endowment has a “plan” for Odium, possibly consisting of “throw Nightblood in his general direction and wait for the mushroom cloud”, which tbh might work.
The “Well of Control” mentioned in that epigraph is in the Shattered Plains, probably definitely IS a Perpendicularity pool. Can’t say of whom, though—the way the chull use it is closest to Cultivation? Or could it be yet a FOURTH Shard in this system, injured in that “crashed moon”? We’re still missing one, I think…an epigraph, I forget when, mentioned someone not being able to find 1 at all. …I think the thing Honor Tanavast did that his power didn’t like is Shattering those Plains, though I’m sure it’s the reason and/or circumstances of his action that’s the problem.
VERY curious to see what narrative purpose Galivar is gonna serve in this Spiritual Realm adventure.
I love how Bridge Four in general but Kaladin especially is getting a cult, whether they like it or not. I can’t wait to see how that evolves in the coming timeskip, after Kaladin becomes whatever Kaladin is about to become.
Flashback!Szeth’s helpful spren is starting to ping as Honor—likes Oaths, helped him channel Stormlight. I still don’t trust it for shit, but something IS fucky with Honor & Honor-related things in this book!
AND CURRENTLY:
Tumblr media
Yesss list of human nationalities vs not human. How did so many different humanoid species end up with populations on Roshar? Do people move here for the Light and just stay? Is Cultivation helping? Though Horneaters aren’t as alien as the rest—I’m certain they’re Singer/human hybrids. I have a theory about Iriali now…who probably crossbred with humans to get Rirans…and Natans [confirms on wiki] are Aimian/human. (Does Dalinar just not know anything about Aimians? Possible!)

Wait wait wait wait. Post Wind and Truth theory crafting.
So with the formation of retribution, the death of the Stormfather, and Ishar being off world, there's no way at all to acquire Stormlight on Roshar, except maybe by deconstructing Towerlight.
But the important part is Lift; she doesn't use Stormlight at all, she uses Lifelight to power her surgebinding. Her ability to use her powers are unaffected by the loss of the Stormfather and the bondsmiths, so she's easily going to be one of the most powerful radiants on Roshar outside of Urithiru.
I believe that she's also going to be trained in swordplay by Vasher/Zahel in the timeskip between eras as well, after kicking a full feruchemist's ass to save Zahel.
So it's at least obvious one of the reasons that she's going to be very important in Stormlight era 2.

wind and truth post-postlude thoughts:
a) unsurprisingly, my favorite arc was adolin. he's been my consistent favorite this whole time anyways. but i think also just it was a well done very satisfying piece of work. the distinction matters, and as we've all seen, oaths are not always forces of good, even if sticking to them feels good. anyways.
b) there is still time to get that drink. like in 10 years post timeskip. and to dissolve the oathpact, because honestly? its kind of fucked up, even if its better now. i will not be giving up hope. they will be getting that drink, even if it takes another 5 books and i'm like 50 when it happens. (and they'll throuple up then. i can dream).
c) i had a feeling she'd end up pregnant and yet somehow i don't hate it? it's oddly full-circle. it kind of works.
d) rip dalinar. you crazy man. he died doing what he did best: making world-shattering decisions for a bunch of people who will resent him for it. and also it worked. deranged. big fan.
e) is navani going to be trapped in tower coma for the next ten years? or however long this timeskip is??? oof. that's. unfortunate
f) i know shallan and kaladin are gonna be more minor characters for the back half and they're both trapped for a while away from the action (more kal than shallan) but both of them feel like they have more story and plot to go. did shallan ever get to 5th ideal? vague and unclear and hard to tell but i'm guessing she maybe did???
g) fucked up blackthorn ghost/spren/guy. the MYTH of him made manifest. that's a fun concept. i am excited to see where that goes. renarin and janash books gonna be fun. i liked both of their arcs so im excited to see whats next
h) if there's no more stormlight, how's the whole radiant thing going to work?? is it going to work???
i) really hoping for more singer/listener pov in the back half. i feel like venli and rlain could have gotten more chapters. these books do fall into the trap of being very-human centered, which is unfortunate.
j) i liked Kal's story. i suspect it will be divisive. less thrilled about the herald thing but. it does make sense and there's still 5 more books so as a midpoint i like it. don't want him to be like that at the end of 10 though. i did like szeth's as well, that really worked. especially the 5th ideal scene and the flashbacks. i just wish they'd both been given more time to breath -> because there were so many POVs it felt a bit cramped and rushed (a lot of the POVs could have used a little more room to breath. i would have read a 1500 page book idc.)
k) one of the heralds is working for retribution. that seems. ominous.
l) poor gavinor. fucked up. interested to see where his story goes. also waughh sigzil. still ambivalent on sunlit man but. waugh.
m) i liked it. it works as a midpoint: resetting the status quo to worse, and justifies the alleged 10-15 year timeskip. it takes the major plot threads of 1-5 and ties them up while leaving many questions for later. the major characters (kal, shallan, dalinar. adolin. szeth.) have had their arcs more or less resolved. the minor/back half characters have been set up for the back half. it'll be a wild ride but. excited to see where it goes.

Random Stormlight/Cosmere thoughts
My sadistic mind think Moash should make it post-timeskip character along with Gavinor.
Moash will no longer be Vyre and try to make amends to people like Kaladin and bridge 4, but never regret his decision with Elhokar.
Why? I just want to see the fuck Moash crowd's brains melt. Should they be pro-Gavinor revenge plot or not? Like what if Moash is no longer a convenient target for revenge like Amaram who turned out to be the cartoon villain and Kaladin can get his sweet resolution.

kaladin for the ask meme :)
KALADIN!!!!
First impression: truly immediately got attached. suffire way to make me love a guy is to make him sad and put him in Situations against his will. kaladin <3
Impression now:
Tumblr media
Favorite moment: omg. k so the obvious answer is literally any of the moments people usually list (honor is dead but i’ll see what i can do, the skies are mine, any hoid story scene, any scene where he swears an ideal, etc.) and truly i love those HOWEVER the top contender for me having just read words of radiance is the first time he’s flying through the chasms and just feels. so much joy. other favorites have to be when he’s with sah and the singers or his die hard moments in row <3
Idea for a story: i say this all the time but kaladin med school dropout modern au <3 there’s no like equivalent to the bridge crews irl but i want kaladin to be a barista maybe. this doesn’t have to be a romantic coffeeshop au i just want kaladin to hang out with his friends and make fun of obnoxious customers. he has big retail energy.
OH additionally this isn’t a story but more a set of scenes. i need kaladin to have Conversations. i know the bridgeboy thing is a silly joke thing now but i need him to talk to adolin about the bridgecrews. I want him to talk to the mink my bestie the mink. kaladin and rlain discuss what happened in the chasms extended cut 10K words. etc.
Unpopular opinion: i think kaladin had several points to make in words of radiance but people are often misinterpreting him to either say he’s Discriminating Against Lighteyes (EL OH EL) or to say he saved elhokar because his moral framework is too simplistic or something. wrong! for a guy from the protect and be good squad of magic people kal is one of the most morally complex characters in the series and his wor struggle is infinitely more understandable on a reread.
Favorite relationship: you know I really don’t know because kaladin exists in a quantum state of being all sexualities at once until observed. i like shakadolin i like kalmoash i like kaladinxhappiness i think kal should get a little kiss from SEVERAL members of bridge four and at least one kholin and maybe the concept of healing however kaladin doesn’t want any of these things. sad! wellthere are other windrunners
Favorite headcanon: when kaladin doesn’t die in stormlight five after the timeskip in stormlight six we will see him get a nice cold drink from a little cafe shop. kal you would love boba…..

Oh! I started Stormlight Archive this year. It did take me a solid 3 or 4 months to get past like the first three chapters bc the worldbuilding does not let you breathe and was pretty dense but then I had time on a trip to just read without pause and got really into it! I feel like it's a good year to get into it since book 5 comes out in December and will wrap up the first half of the series (books 6-10 will be after a timeskip and start publishing in like 2030s RIP). After I finish these 5 I'll probably give myself a breather and then get into the rest of cosmere universe. My one gripe is that I'm not always the biggest "sanderlanche" fan. He builds up a lot and then the last fifth is a whole lot of stuff going on but it can make some of the build up feel slow (for me) and I've been bad and skimmed forward more than I should since the books are loonngg. It's also really easy to spoil yourself with fandom stuff but even when that happens I've been having a good time. There's more to say but that can be found in non spoiler summaries I think- I thought I'd give you my two cents about the reading experience lol
Great to hear, thank you for your thoughts!! I've heard a lot about how *long* Sanderson's works are, which is a little daunting to me, who's just barely getting back into reading for the first time in years, but I'm looking forward to the journey! Haven't decided if I'm starting at Mistborn or Stormlight Archives since both seem really really good, but I'd like to see what all the hype is about. I'm here for that worldbuilding bro I've gotta see it for myself. So cool that this is an active project that's going on, I've heard a lot of good things!
