The True Story of the Villareal Family [2.5]
prev // home // next
Crickets chirped outside the Villareal residence, a mansion that lay nestled in the center of its own private island. A place so isolated, no one in the town of Windenburg could hear you even if you cried out.
“Dinner’s ready!” Hugo cried out.
After a few nights of rest, he felt refreshed enough to cook for the family again.
The Villareals assembled at the dining table, greeted by an entire roasted bass rubbed in spices and a caprese salad with a tastefully drizzled balsamic reduction.
“Oh, this looks great,” said Luna, glancing up from her phone. “Thank you, Hugo.”
“Yes, yes, what she said,” said Jacques.
Jacques had to be very careful right now after his failure earlier this week. He couldn’t risk his children becoming suspicious of him before his deed was accomplished. For everything to work out to his maximum benefit, he needed to plan the perfect accident.
It was just a few more days of pretending to be a normal father, he promised himself. Then he would be free to pursue his hobbies unfettered for the rest of his life.
If only Hugo would stop staring at him.
He cleared his throat. “So, offspring, how was school today?” Excellent question, he told himself. Very fatherlike.
“They brought some dead frogs to class for us to dissect today. It was upsetting,” complained Max.
“Aw, I remember when we had to do that,” said Luna sympathetically. “It’s pretty gross, isn’t it? I understand how you feel.”
Max huffed but ate his fish quietly, because, in fact, his sister did not understand how he felt. He wasn’t upset that they had to dissect frogs; he was upset that the frogs were delivered already dead.
“Offspring, how about we plan our next Family Fun Day, hm?” Jacques asked. Nicely slipped that in there, he thought to himself. Not suspicious at all.
“Ooh what if we went back to the Von Haunt Estate?” said Luna while Jacques resisted the urge to scold her for being on her phone during dinner. “That was so fun for everyone last time!”
If she had looked up from her phone, she might’ve seen Hugo giving her a dirty look. And she definitely would have seen her father’s face shrivel up like an angry prune at the mention of the Von Haunt Estate.
“Well, maybe we could if someone hadn’t gotten me banned from that cherished tourist destination.” He looked pointedly at Max, who was nonchalantly stabbing his fish, pretending not to notice his father’s ire.
The Von Haunt Estate used to be his favorite place to go to dress up as a knight and play chess. Used to be. Getting banned from his favorite establishment was the final incident that had triggered Jacques’ evil plans. Keep it together, Jacques, he reminded himself. It’ll all be over soon.
“I’ve got it!” he said, changing from scowling to beaming in an instant. “How about a Family Fun Day at the spa?”
His eyes grew as wide as their dinner plates. “Say, wouldn’t it be nice to sit in a sweltering hot sauna for the rest of your lives?”
The table went silent.
“What’s a sauna?” said Max.
“What, you don’t know? It’s a hot, steamy room, and if you stay in there too long, you–“
“Dad, spas don’t exist in our world.” Hugo suddenly interrupted. This was the first thing he’d said since they sat down – he’d spent the entire meal quiet with a glassy, faraway look on his face.
His father fumed. Another ingenious plan of his, foiled?
He slammed his fists onto the table, the tableware clattering. “Well, plum this!”
Luna gasped. “Dad, language! Not in front of Max!”
Jaques stood up and slammed his chair into the table, muttering under his breath as he stormed out of the dining room, the children watching him.
"Cheapskate Watcher. How dare she not have saunas?"
The kids were left alone in the dining room in an uneasy silence. Their father’s mood swings seemed a bit, well, swingier than usual.
Max was still grinning, however, because he had just learned a new word.
“Plum, haha!” he chuckled. “Plum, plum, plum…”

The penultimate episode of Partner Track. The show has barely taken off, and now it has to stick its landing.
Ingrid drops by Nick's place to return the engagement ring. She looks like she's dreading the conversation. Not to rub it in (but also to totally rub it in), I'd like to ask her if this confrontation is easier than simply breaking up with him weeks ago?
She explains to Nick that she and Jeff have a history.
Girl!
👏 You 👏 slept 👏 with 👏 him 👏 once 👏 six years ago, never learned his name, and never saw him again. That's not history. That's barely a footnote. Look, I just summed up the entirety of it in one sentence.
Nick calls Jeff dark and tortured (LOL) and tells Ingrid to ask herself why she always chases the storm (LOL).
Jeff is not 'the storm'; he's that drizzly piss weather we get in London. Or maybe he means Ingrid's love life in general? Still not seeing it.
Nick tells her he'll have her stuff shipped over to her.
In case this is your last scene, Nick... uh... sorry. You did not deserve this shit. But also, you and Ingrid dated for a matter of months, and you can do better than a woman who's only sort of into you.
Opening credits.
Ingrid is at her apartment, microwaving a meal and looking sad. She must be missing Nick's cooking. But she forgets about all that when the doorman rings and asks if Jeff can come up. She says 'yes' and hurriedly tidies.
Jeff has bought dumplings (I suppose they were out of egg salad sandwiches?) but he sees Ingrid is already eating some. So I suppose he learned her preferred foods off-screen?
He tells Ingrid that he's cooled things off with Victoria, and she tells him that it's 100% over with Nick. They kiss.
The two actors are excellent screen kissers, by the way. It's an easy thing to forget about until you see actors who can only smash their mouths together in a way that just looks like assault.
Jeff and Ingrid agree to keep their relationship a secret in the office. Jeff reminds her that she jumped him in that same office. They giggle some more.
Cut to a montage where they walk past each other at work, eye-fucking so intensely that I'm surprised Ingrid doesn't get pregnant on the spot. Now I'm imagining the beautiful but insufferable and stupid baby they could make.
Seriously, everyone in the office has eyes. They'll see you two touching hands in the corridor as you pass each other. Do you think you're the first ones in the firm to have an affair? I shudder to imagine what a black light would reveal in your offices.
In the overly long montage, they hang around Ingrid's apartment while she dances sexily for him and strips before they have sex. They also make out in an elevator. These two only wish they were Meredith and Derek from Grey's Anatomy.
I'm making fun of them, but I do buy that they're having a lot of fun. It's a shame there weren't enough episodes in this season to let their early love affair play out more slowly so we could see what they're like as a couple when it's not all steamy looks and slow motion fucking.
The montage (finally) ends, and they're in bed. The dialogue tells us it's been a week and that Ingrid is going to a deal closing ceremony. Ingrid tells him there are three slots for Partner at the firm, and she thinks it'll be her, him and Dan who get it.
Jeff agrees and hands her a gift - it's a pretty diamond necklace with a rose pendant, (which is a callback to Rosecliff, where they met). Ingrid is touched, but she's still sad that she hasn't patched things up with Rachel and Tyler. Jeff tells her to give them time and keep moving forward.
They talk about ambition and Jeff tells Ingrid she lives for the gold star. She asks Jeff about his parents' expectations. Jeff tells her that he was the parent. He cooked and took care of his little sisters. His mother was mentally unwell (it's implied she was an addict due to their circumstances and the abuse from his father) and she set fire to a picture of the two of them because she said it had demons in it.
I like getting some backstory for Jeff, but again it's all tell and no show. They could've given him any other backstory, and it wouldn't matter because it isn't reflected enough in his behaviour. In fact, I half-suspect he might be lying about everything. I just don't know.
It's not the actor's fault. The writers waited too long to give us anything to care about with Jeff. But even this just feels like a set-up for the inevitable implosion of their relationship by the finale.
I do like these two as a couple, sort of. Which surprises me, because I wanted to murder Jeff in episodes 1 through 4, and intermittently thereafter.
If this had been better written, we could've had a solid enemies to lovers story. I've found it easier to find gifs on Tumblr for Paralegal Justin and Rachel's love story than for either of Ingrid's love interests. The side pairing was getting more fandom attention than the love triangle the show based a chunk of its marketing on. Whoops.

S.quilliam X S.quidward feedism drabble
Don't like? DON'T READ!
TW: gay octopi ex-lovers
Ah... B.ikini B.ottom. The place where all sorts of fascinating sea creatures and even non sea creatures live. A truly fantastical wonderland of fish and wetness beyond what the mind can comprehend. Let us check up on one of our favorites, shall we?
There he is, our favorite cephalopod. There's a name for such specimin like this, but we'll just call him "S.quidward." S.quidward seems to be upset today. Let's take a closer look.
Inside his stone home, S.quidward is sitting on his bed with a depressed frown. It seems he is having some nostalgic memories about a special someone from years ago, and he can't seem to get over him. How could he? After all, the picture of the octopus in his hand (tentacle? Arm?) was his first real lover and quite possibly his last.
In the vast mind of that bald headed, big nosed fellow, he was contemplating on calling his ex one last time. S.quidward needed to hear his voice. He craved it like how he craved for S.pongebob to have exploded after eating that bomb. But who was he kidding? Why would he of all sea creatures decide to pick up the phone for him?
Just as S.quidward was about to pussy out, a ring was heard from the phone... All three of his hearts leaped in anticipation.
Could it be??
S.quidward instantly threw out all of his dignity and leaped for the phone, picking it up in an instant. His breath caught in his throat as soon as he recognized the voice on the other end.
"Were you thinking about me just now, S.quiddy?~" A short nasally laugh, belonging only to him, rang out like music to S.quidward's nonexistent ears. There was that petname again. Only he was allowed to call him such a devious little petname...
"S-S.quilliam... How did you know?" Was it possible that S.quilliam was thinking of him too? At this very moment?? No. That could have been too big of a coincidence- "I can sense it, S.quiddy. That emotional bond we had was too strong to fade away."
A long pause..............................
"... The truth is, S.quiddy... I miss what we had."
This can not be happening right now. S.quilliam never admitted his true feelings. Was he finally being open? Vulnerable for once? S.quidward paused and swallowed hard, sweat rolling down his shiny head. "S.quilliam... I... I'm not sure we should-.... I mean... I can't go through this again. I don't even know why I thought we could."
Another long pause................... and a sigh from the other end.
"You're really going to make me say this, aren't you? I miss the things we used to do. Remember? Surely you do?"
What they used to do... How could S.quidward forget? It was possibly the best time of his life. His hand (again... tentacle? Arm?) subconsciously slithered up his brown shirt and squished the folds of fat with nostalgia. Fond memories of going on multiple dinner dates in one night, the tender touch of suction cups on his filled out belly... He could practically feel his touch once more.
"S.quiddy? I know you're still there. I can hear you breathing."
Another gulp, this time, it was one of excitement. "Y-yes, I'm still here."
More silence.......................... (third time is the charm)
"Go to the kitchen, S.quiddy." A command. Something S.quidward was more than willing to do. Immediately, he stood from his bed and walked downstairs, his feet (... tentacles? Legs? ARMS???) making their signature farting sounds as he stepped to the fridge. "Okay... I'm there."
He could almost feel the seductive grin forming on his ex-lover's blue face. "Tell me, S.quiddy... what do you have in your ice box? Don't skip over anything."
With a quick and eager glance inside, he began to list off everything. "There's my imported cheese, an assortment of yams, summer sausage, milk, and some kelp salad." His stomach was already growling up a storm.
"Excellent. Your taste in food never disappoints. Go ahead... Let me hear you chew up those yams first. I'm not hanging up until I know my S.quiddy is well fed~"
This was certainly going to be a long night...

I'm sitting in Jess's new house!! That's so crazy!! It's so cute and I'm having the best time being with her on this new adventure.
I had trouble falling asleep last night but once I was asleep I slept pretty well. I woke up at 7 with James but hadn't planned on getting up yet. James had gone and gotten gas for our car. And wrote me a very sweet note. They came and gave me a cuddle and we said goodbye.
I would stay in bed for a while but eventually I got up. I got washed and dressed. I made sure my bag was packed. And then I decided to stop at the museum to get guac and flowers and then say goodbye to James again.
So I did just that. I drove over there. And got my guac and had a really nice conversation with Meril. And she told me that Bob, the blacksmith, was packing up because he's leaving!! I'm so sad!! I would go inside and talk to him and he feels like the museum is pushing him out and I'm just so sad that he looked so sad. I hope to see him at the Ren fair. He said he had his season passes already. I'm glad.
I would get flowers from Helen. I picked them all myself and tried to pick the best colors. I think I did an excellent job.
I would hug on James for a bit. And they told me I better drive safe. And I would do my best but other people were being very very stupid.
The drive should have been an hour and a half. But it was over two hours because while the drive was easy and fine all the way to Delaware, as soon as I went over the state line it was terrible.
There was so much traffic that even though I was barely 15 minutes away it took me almost 40 minutes. It was just stand still. And there was a really dumb lady who wouldn't let me merge when there was space. It was super obnoxious. And then people were driving on the shoulder in a super unsafe way!! It was terrible and sucked and I was hoping to get to Jess at 1045 but got there at 1130 instead. Ugh.
But then I was at the exit and realized that the sign had her town and Woodstown! Which is where Brandon, my Jr high boyfriend his adopted brother and my senior high boyfriend lived!! I'm very familiar with that area. 10 years ago familiar but still! I was excited to see this area!
Her house is so stinking cute. Its brick and such a nice little size. It's a little closer to the neighbors then I expected but still really good size wise there too. I was so excited for the little tour.
I gave her the flowers and she gave me a tour! And it's super cute. I understand the issues in the kitchen and bathroom better now. She also has no furniture. But it's so cute and I can't wait to see how it comes together!!
After the tour we pretty quickly headed to a diner down the street for lunch.
And I love a diner. It's my favorite thing. And it was a good New Jersey diner with accents and a salad bar!!
We got fries and eggs and coleslaw and a pickle and I got a grilled cheese. And we had an excellent talk as it started to storm outside.
We talked about the move and work and drama and saving money and I just felt great. Love being with Jess. I missed her very much!! And I'm just so happy for her.
We would try to go to an antique store but it seems it is only open during the week. But that's alright. We went back to the house and started sorting her clothes. We made piles and I helped her make some hard choices. And while we didn't get rid of a lot she did try on a lot and we thought about outfits and work and got a lot of things hung up. This took two hours. And was fun but a little exhausting.
We would chill for a little bit then tried to go out contact paper in the kitchen cabinets and that went poorly. We got one but the second one went so bad we had to throw away part of it and it was not fun. But we tried. She ordered more but I feel bad we couldn't get it done. Well try again tomorrow.
We went out after that. First to the hardware store. Where I am convinced she will find a husband. Lots of guys our age working there. And they seemed to think we were silly and liked the basket we were trying to color match. They cut a key for Jess and she bought me a bottle opener shaped like a lobster. And I enjoyed looking around. Jess lost me and sent some of the guys to come find me which was very silly. At the register I tried to get Jess to buy worms because she hates bugs and I was being annoying and the workers were like. Yes they are fresh!! Which I thought was hilarious.
We would leave there and headed toward Salem. Which was super cute but very quickly falls apart. Like its historic and lovely and then you cross a light and it's broken windows and trash and abandoned buildings. It was wild how fast it happened. I'm curious about the town. But it was interesting to see.
We went to an ice cream stand. We got mozzarella sticks and ice cream. And after we paid we went and sat on the picnic tables near the corn feild.
We got to see farms and cows and sheep. It is a really beautiful area. And I'm just so excited to explore a new place with Jess.
We stopped in Salem on the way back to check out a furniture sale. But nothing sparked joy. Except mirrors but what this house doesn't need right now is more mirrors.
We came back here and I brought my blanket inside to show her and she said I'm getting so good at it and that made me feel nice. And we would just hang out we moved a table. We set up her computer in the guest room. And we would take a half hour lay down break. And then rejoined to watch a show and eat guac and chips. We also went through the fabric options for her couch and chose rugs for all the rooms. It was fun.
As the sun went down we started winding down. I took a shower. And now I am in bed in the guest room. I am really tired but it's taken forever to write this because I have been distracted by the camp group chat because it's devolved into chaos because of nonsense. It's so silly but I can't help participate. But it has calmed down now. And I am really ready to close my eyes.
I hope tomorrow we get a lot done. I hope you all have a great night. I hope you are staying safe. Goodnight everyone!!

The Ultimate Keto Diet Guide: Benefits, Tips, and Delicious Snack Ideas
The ketogenic diet, or keto diet, has taken the world by storm, gaining popularity for its effectiveness in weight loss, boosting energy levels, and improving overall health. If you’re looking to dive into keto, or refine your current approach, this guide will help you understand the essentials, maximize results, and keep things interesting with 20+ easy, tasty keto snacks to support your journey.
What Is the Keto Diet?
At its core, the keto diet is a low-carbohydrate, high-fat eating plan. It works by pushing your body into a metabolic state called ketosis, where fat becomes your primary source of energy, instead of carbs. Typically, your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose to fuel your cells. However, when carbs are drastically reduced, your body switches gears and begins burning fat for energy, producing ketones in the liver to be used as fuel.
For most people, achieving ketosis involves reducing daily carbohydrate intake to around 20-50 grams and increasing fat consumption to 70-80% of your daily caloric intake, with the remainder coming from moderate protein intake. This combination triggers fat burning and can result in impressive weight loss and other health benefits.
How Does the Keto Diet Work?
When you eat a lot of carbs, your body produces insulin, a hormone that helps cells absorb glucose for energy. On the keto diet, with fewer carbs to break down, insulin levels drop, encouraging the body to access stored fat for energy. This fat-burning process is what makes the keto diet particularly effective for weight loss.
Additionally, the production of ketones provides the brain with a steady, efficient energy source, which can lead to increased mental clarity and focus. Many followers of the keto diet also report improved energy levels and reduced cravings, as fat and protein tend to keep you fuller for longer than carbohydrates do.
Key Benefits of the Keto Diet
1. Weight LossOne of the main reasons people turn to the keto diet is for its effectiveness in fat loss. By forcing the body to rely on fat for energy, many individuals see significant drops in body weight, particularly from stored fat around the abdomen.
2. Stabilized Blood Sugar LevelsBecause you’re reducing carbohydrate intake, the keto diet can help stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels. This makes it an excellent option for people with type 2 diabetes or those looking to maintain consistent energy levels throughout the day.
3. Enhanced Mental ClarityMany keto dieters report enhanced focus and mental clarity. The steady energy supply from ketones, instead of fluctuating glucose levels, can lead to improved brain function and concentration.
4. Appetite ControlA diet higher in fats and moderate in protein keeps you feeling full and satisfied for longer periods. This helps curb cravings and makes it easier to stick to your eating plan.
Challenges of the Keto Diet and How to Overcome Them
While the benefits of keto are clear, the diet does come with its challenges, especially in the beginning.
1. Keto FluIn the first few days of keto, some people experience symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and irritability—often referred to as the "keto flu." This happens as your body adjusts to burning fat for fuel instead of carbs. To ease these symptoms, it’s important to stay hydrated, consume enough electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium), and give your body time to adjust.
2. Limited Food OptionsAnother challenge can be the limited variety of foods you can eat while staying within your carb limits. Thankfully, there are numerous delicious and creative keto snacks you can enjoy without sacrificing taste. (More on that in a moment!)
3. Social ChallengesDining out or attending social events can sometimes feel restrictive while on keto, but with a little planning and preparation, it’s entirely manageable. Opt for low-carb options like grilled meats, salads, and avoid starchy sides.
20+ Easy Keto Diet Snacks to Keep You on Track

Common Mistakes on the Keto Diet and How to Avoid Them
Even though the keto diet has many benefits, there are common mistakes that can slow your progress or lead to frustration. Let’s break them down and look at solutions:
1. Not Eating Enough FatMany beginners mistakenly focus more on cutting carbs than increasing fats. Remember, fat is your primary fuel source on keto. Make sure you’re incorporating plenty of healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, and coconut oil into your meals.
2. Consuming Hidden CarbsIt’s easy to overlook carbs in foods like sauces, dressings, and processed snacks. Always check nutrition labels to make sure your food choices are truly low-carb. If you need safe snack ideas, my 20+ Keto Diet Snacks guide has options that are both low-carb and delicious.
3. Not Staying HydratedThe keto diet has a diuretic effect, meaning your body may lose water and electrolytes faster than usual. Make sure to drink plenty of water and replenish electrolytes with foods like leafy greens, nuts, and seeds.
4. Giving Up Too SoonIt can take a week or two for your body to fully adjust to burning fat for fuel. Many people give up before they reach the full benefits of ketosis. Stick with it, stay consistent, and trust the process.
Final Thoughts
The keto diet is a powerful tool for weight loss, energy, and overall health improvement. While it may seem challenging at first, the key to success is planning, consistency, and having the right resources. With the right balance of low-carb meals and creative keto snacks, you’ll find that keto can be both enjoyable and sustainable.

Chopping Down Wait Times: Kitchen Display Systems for Quick Service Restaurants
In the furious, headlong world of QSRs, speed and accuracy are the secret sauce for bringing patrons back for seconds. But how do you blend both seamlessly with efficiency and precision without letting that soup of stress boil over? Along comes the hero of our culinary story: the kitchen display system. Making waves across modern eateries, KDS technology revolutionizes the way kitchens operate—amping up the heat on productivity while keeping those wait times on ice. But let's slice down to the details and find out why this tech is one of the must-have gadgets for QSR managers and owners.
The Recipe to Success: Kitchen Display Systems With every sizzling QSR, there is a bustling kitchen at the back of the house where timing is everything. With a kitchen display, gone are the greasy tickets and the missing orders. A KDS doles out real-time data on a silver platter, making sure every burger is flipped and every salad is tossed at just the right moment. Not only does it keep the back-of-house team in excellent sync, but it also feeds important information to the front-of-house staff to create a dining dance that is harmonious and efficient.
Stirring up Order Accuracy One pinch of salt instead of sugar can turn a dish sour, and in the same spirit, a wrong-keyed order can leave a sour taste in the customer's mouth. An integrated kitchen system means what's typed in is exactly what's cooked up—no more, no less. A crystal-clear screen cuts through the chaos, flashing orders with a fine chef's knife precision. That means fewer return trips for your servers, fewer remakes for your cooks and all-around happier customers.
Service So Fast Service speed is like the turbo in a QSR engine, and a kitchen display is the nitro a kitchen needs. Orders come in from every direction: counter, drive-thru, and online apps. A KDS keeps it all in line effortlessly. Explanations reveal how meals go from grill to guest at breakneck speed, so customers don't even have time to wonder, "Where's my food?" – it's right in front of them, hot and ready to devour.
A Dash of Data: The Spice of Strategic Planning A kitchen display, however, goes far beyond simply speeding up service. The kind of data on peak hours, popularity of dishes, and average preparation times equips restaurateurs with the ability to concoct strategies that are specifically aimed at their customers. That analysis comes in handy for ordering ingredients in advance, working out the best staff levels, and tweaking menus, not as a shot in the dark but with carefully targeted corrections.
Whisking Away Waste In the bustling cauldron of a QSR kitchen, waste can be an insidious ingredient that can eat into your margins. A Kitchen Display cuts the fat with trend ordering and alerts you to overstocked items before they expire. That means fewer instances of spoilage, more money in your pocket, and a greener operation that reduces shrink and waste – and that patrons can enjoy just as much as your accountant does.
Simmering Down Staff Stress A high-pressure kitchen can cook up a storm of stress among your staff, but a kitchen display acts like a soothing broth for frazzled nerves. Then the instructions provided are so clear, and the communication between the front and back of the house is so coherent, leaving very little margin for error and frustration, leading to a far more focused and happier team—ready to serve up plenty more smiles than ever before along with your signature dishes.
Buffet of Benefits in One System Selecting the right kitchen display can be likened to selecting a preferred cut of meat—in many cases, it means everything to the outcome. Modern KDS options can be applied to your workflow process, can offer multi-station coordination, and, in some cases, be brought into your current point-of-sale system to create an epicenter for the seamless processing of an order to delivery.
The Secret Ingredient: Customer Contentment It's not about faster table turns or saving a few strips of bacon from the trash; it's about the customer at the end of the day. Quick service is great, but swift, accurate, and stress-free service is what turns that one-time patron into an avid fan. A KDS ensures that your customer's order is hot and right, every single time, making your restaurant the go-to spot for folks who value their time as much as their taste buds.
Conclusion: Cooking up a Kitchen Revolution The world of quick-service restaurants is just as competitive as a cooking finale on TV, and everybody is trying to get that edge to win over the judges—in this case, your work—customers. Being tasked with implementing a kitchen display, that is your secret weapon, your game-changing ingredient that can help your restaurant rise to the top. Why settle for kitchen chaos when you could orchestrate a symphony of efficiency and satisfaction?
Supercharge your service with some efficiency and cut those wait times down to advance with eatOS. Prepare to step into the world of kitchen display systems and see how this transformational tech can revolutionize your restaurant today!

This week has been a year. I swear. I cannot believe the airport pick up was only like 3 days ago??? Today was much more normal but Jesus was today a day.
I did not get to sleep until after 1 last night. I was pretty exhausted but I couldn't get comfortable. Bad temperature, noises, belly hurts. I would eventually get my brain to turn off. But it was tough.
Waking up was worse. The smoke was still out there. Thankfully it would pretty quickly get better. But there was still a lack of communication and so no one really knew what was going on.
Ty would come and sit outside with me and we talked for forever. About our families and it was nice to just be heard. But I also just really appreciated him sharing his stories with me too.
Eventually Louisa came up with a box for me and it was my cuddle fish bones!! They were finally here!!! So I would start working on my example carving and I am just making a simple piece but I'm thrilled that next week I'll be able to do a practice cast and we'll see how it goes.
My first group would be 45 minutes late. And then seemed surprised when I was like hey you only have 15 minutes. They just kept saying we had to have the boys pack! And I'm like yes but that doesn't change that I have a different group coming in 15 minutes.
But both that group and the pioneers did great. I really did have a nice time with them and enjoyed helping them with their drawings. Plus having the hammock space outside was excellent, once we were allowed to go outside. Finally the air quality was back down to acceptable levels.
Lunch was kind of a nightmare though. The food they sent out for vegetarians was bizarre. Like it was two rolls. With coleslaw. And some kind of crumby something that tasted like spicy hot mustard. It was disgusting. So I felt really sad. I tried to have a salad but it didn't make me feel better. So I sent Heather a picture of the gross food and went to get Mac and cheese from my stash.
And that made me feel a little better. I read, and finished my book today over lunch and then my afternoon break. I have a few books I want to finish this summer, and we are 3 in so far. They are easy reading but still powerful stories. I have cried a few times reading them. The one today particularly hit me. A story about a Russian Jewish immigrant girl at the turn of the century. And there were some really sad part but also beautiful parts and it was really well written.
I had a good afternoon though. My groups were sweet. I had good conversations. I taught the stockade boys how to make look bracelets. And the daycampers were super sweet and were enjoying holding my stuffies in the hammocks and it was really cute.
During my last group of the day they called for a thunderstorm and said to stay inside. Which was fine. Except earlier in the day they have moved the stockade and woodland boys luggage outside my building. And I was like okay kids. Let's pause on the art we have to save the bags.
And we did! All the kids would carry all the boys bags inside and it was amazing teamwork and was so super sweet. I made a big deal calling it in the walkie so everyone would know. And it would storm but it would really pick up until when pick up was happening.
Once my last group left I went to the office to check in about what they wanted me to do for pick up and when I could go home. Heather said 630 and that she would like me to go to the bears to direct traffic.
I decided to go change before that. I put on shorts and my puhtok shirt and would sit in the office reading until it was closer to the call time.
I walked down there but it was drizzling. And soon Heather would bring her car down for me to sit in. And I would use my umbrella as a signal to stop everyone so I could talk to them. Are you here for day camp or overnight? Do you know you village or cabin? No? What's your camper's gender, and age. And I felt super confident and was having a great time. Even if I was getting very rained on, even in the car. But almost all the parents were so lovely and I was having a lot of fun once I got the hang of it.
I really was looking forward to going home though. So once I heard there was only one kid left and they were going to the office I would drive Heather's car back up. It had very sensitive pedals and I was scream laughing a lot but I got up there in one piece.
I got a piece of candy from the porch, said goodbye to Celia, and then it was time to go home.
James was at brass tap getting us dinner. And I was thrilled. The drive home was rainy but that was okay. I got back home in one piece and we had a lovely little dinner. And chilled on the couch for a long time. I loved being with my husband. I love my husband so so much.
I took a long bath and I felt much better. While I felt cute today I also hair felt really dirty. I hope next week I will have a better handle on a shower schedule and will feel less grimy.
I am really tired. Now I am going to dry my hair a little. I don't think I have enough energy to do it all the way. And then I am going to sleep.
I have to market tomorrow. And maybe a nap. And just a restful evening. Sunday I'm hoping to have some art production. But mostly I'm just looking forward to being in my house. With my cat who seems thrilled to see me, he's being so cute.
I love you all so very much. Goodnight everyone!!

Exploring the Delightful World of Vegetarian Meals: From Tofu Stir-Fry to Veggie Burgers
In recent years, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of people adopting vegetarian and meatless diets. Whether it's due to ethical concerns, health reasons, or a desire to reduce one's carbon footprint, the demand for delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals has never been higher. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the world of vegetarian cuisine and explore some flavorful options that will satisfy even the most discerning palate. From tofu stir-fry to mouthwatering veggie burgers, we've got you covered! Section 1: Tofu Stir-Fry - A Healthy and Versatile Dish Tofu stir-fry is a popular and versatile dish that provides a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Tofu, made from soybean curds, is an excellent source of plant-based protein and is suitable for vegans and vegetarians alike. Here are a few key points to consider when preparing a tofu stir-fry: 1. Choosing the Right Tofu: When making a stir-fry, it's important to select the right tofu texture for your desired outcome. Firm or extra-firm tofu works best as it holds its shape during cooking and provides a satisfying bite. 2. Marinating for Flavor Infusion: To enhance the taste and texture of tofu, marinating it before stir-frying is highly recommended. A simple marinade consisting of soy sauce, honey, ginger, and garlic can add a burst of flavor to the dish. 3. Perfect Pairings: Consider adding a variety of colorful vegetables to your stir-fry, such as bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, and snow peas. These vegetables not only add a vibrant visual appeal but also contribute to the overall nutritional value of the meal. Section 2: Exploring Tasty Meatless Options Contrary to popular belief, vegetarian meals can be incredibly diverse and satisfying. From lentils and chickpeas to mushrooms and quinoa, there is an array of meatless options available that are both nutritious and scrumptious. Here are a few ideas to get you started: 1. Lentil Curry: Lentils are a great source of protein and fiber, making them a staple in vegetarian diets. A flavorful lentil curry, seasoned with aromatic spices, is a hearty and satisfying meal option. 2. Portobello Mushroom Burgers: Move over beef burgers, because portobello mushroom burgers are taking the culinary world by storm! Grilled portobello mushrooms, topped with melted cheese, avocado, and tangy condiments, create a mouthwatering meatless burger experience. 3. Quinoa Salad: Quinoa, a protein-rich grain, is perfect for creating a refreshing and nutritious salad. Mixed with colorful vegetables, fresh herbs, and a zesty dressing, quinoa salad is a delightful option for lunch or dinner. Section 3: The Rising Popularity of Veggie Burgers Veggie burgers have come a long way from being bland and uninspired patties that merely imitate meat. With the growing demand for plant-based alternatives, veggie burgers have evolved into flavorful, juicy, and satisfying meals. Here's why they deserve a place in your vegetarian meal repertoire: 1. Patty Perfection: Modern veggie burgers are crafted using a variety of ingredients such as legumes, grains, vegetables, and even plant-based proteins like soy and pea protein. These combinations create a patty with a texture akin to its meaty counterpart while offering distinct flavors. 2. Creative Toppings and Condiments: The beauty of veggie burgers lies in the endless possibilities for toppings and condiments. From classic lettuce, tomato, and onion to avocado, caramelized onions, and tangy sauces, you can create a customized burger that suits your taste. 3. Health Benefits: Compared to traditional meat burgers, veggie burgers are generally lower in calories and saturated fats. They are also cholesterol-free, making them a heart-healthy option for those looking to reduce their meat consumption. Elevate your fitness game with Puravive's Advanced Fitness Tracker.
