My #HB90 system for November during @nanowrimo. I have already gotten three rewards for myself, handwrote 15K words, typed another 12K and I am on a roll. I am excited for the rest of the month. #writing #memoir #storiesfromthepast #lauransashaexcellentadventure #perfecttiming 📖 #pashfam I used gel pens and two #PassionPlanner #Journals with lined paper to handwrite my book. Now typing all of it out, I hope to start editing in December. Or sooner if possible. 📖 Who else is with me? https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck4tcNeLAsk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

How much money did it take to buy a pottery plant in 1932? $8,000! How many people did it take to keep the pottery financially up and running? An entire town! And so begins the story of Lew Reese and the Scio-Ohio pottery plant located in Scio, OH. From the very beginning, Lew had economy on his mind when he first bought the abandoned plant at a sheriff’s sale for $8,000. Thrifty and dedicated from day one, Lew was totally committed to its success, even physically living in the plant during renovations to make sure time and resources were not wasted. Money was always tight, so in addition to managing the operation, Lew became the salesman too, introducing Scio dishes to buyers in major market cities. But selling dishware during the Great Depression was always a tricky business. Even with Lew focusing on affordable pieces and prices, his finances were always precariously balanced. When word got out that Lew was struggling to meet operating costs, the townspeople of Scio stepped up, in $100 increments, and helped Lew pay all his bills so that the pottery would have a chance to succeed. In what must have felt like a real George Bailey moment, the graciousness and generosity of local residents helped the pottery grow and then thrive for the next 50 years. The pottery employees were equally loyal and supportive too. When a fire burned down the plant in 1947, employees donated their paychecks and residents lent physical support to help rebuild the entire plant. One year later, the pottery was back in operation and this platter was made. I think if there ever was a real-life George Bailey or a real life Bedford Falls, it would be Lew Reese and it would be the town of Scio, OH. It’s no wonder the only marking on the back is a humble, universal USA stamp. This platter was made by everyone in the town of Scio. In one way or another. Cheers to stories of people helping people. And in this case, potteries too:) . . . . . #1940skitchen #scio #vintageplatter #floraldishes #hazelpattern #cottagedecor #cottagechic #ohiohistory #storiesfromthepast #communitylove https://www.instagram.com/p/CDRxdcppnbU/?igshid=10o0bxcjqjwqj

. . . . #storiesfromthepast #autorinnenleben #autorenleben #melone #wassermelone #dirtydancing #sommer #sommer2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/CCGh3XiKN0o/?igshid=1e4bpg5rsnaoh

Light Housekeeping Before Major Renovation
January is the season for it.
I made some cosmetic changes to StoriesFromThePast last year. I changed my background, and experimented with new designs, but as readership increased and I began making new connections, the potential of this project became clear. I was connected with readers in unexpected ways, and by the end of the year, StoriesFromthePast had taken on a life of its own. This is…

Day 8, Lourve museum, part 2. Of course Mrs. Lisa Gherardini (Monalisa) got the most attention from all. And overdose of history, art and cultures. I am still drunk on the diversity of it all. And I am not sure if I saw it all . It is that huge and still growing. A very well maintained museum and also profitable I think by the way they have commercialized the compete process . . . #lourve #lourvemuseum #lourvemusee #museum #art #history #culture #paintings #sculptures #utility #pyramidmuseum #france #paris #ancient #antiques #islamic #egyptian #greek #storiesfromthepast #historic #monument #historyoffrance #europe #british #monalisa #leonardodavinci #vinci #raphael #angelo (at Musée du Louvre)

This is what a survivor looks like in the land of the Vintage Kitchen. Made in the 1940’s, this mixing bowl survived the WWII years - a war that claimed the lives of over 70 million people and created world-wide upheaval. I can’t even imagine how many home cooks that might have included or how many bombings or explosions or careless handling from people’s shattered grief. Only the bowl really knows. She didn’t escape all this monumental history, the years between then and now, without some wounds herself but she wears that crack without shame. Life is for the living, Katharine Hepburn once said. And this bowl did just that. Year to year, kitchen to kitchen, cook to cook, catastrophe to catastrophe, joy to joy. She not only made it through but she did so ultimately still intact. Objects are objects people will say. But oh how they are symbols too. If we look at them close enough, they will show us what strength looks like. They will tell us yes, we too can make it through. 🌱 . . . . . . #oldbowl #mixingbowl #weathered #surviving #symbolism #1940skitchen #vintagelove #perfectlyimperfect #storiesfromthepast #thingswithmeaning https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VEZZpgM4H/?igshid=2bdy7jvjnzec

Tumblr Confession
I thought about suicide when I was 13. I cut my wrists, I bang my head on the wall, I tried to hang myself, I tried drinking solvents at our house. People just stop me from doing it, and the only thing I can do is cry and cry ‘til I’m empty. I was so depressed; I feel like nobody cares; I feel… WORTHLESS. Until I had a “rehab" when I moved to a new home. My suicidal tendencies suddenly faded, but depression is still lingering on my mind from time to time. My emotions are based on the weather, so if it’s rainy, I’m more likely crying out of nothing. I miss the feeling of hurting myself again. Maybe I’m a masochist; maybe I just seek pleasure from inflicting myself, but that’s me.
