What's your favorite stop motion movie?
Oh, gosh, my top 5 would be Corpse Bride, Paranorman, Coraline, The Box Trolls and Chicken Run.
I guess I can remove Chicken run from the top 4 because even though I love it, it's not necessarily an impressive movie in comparison to the others on the list.
I hate to do it, but I guess Boxtrolls would be going next. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's not a movie I randomly get the urge to watch.
But choosing between Corpse Pride, Paranorman and Coraline is... hard.
Corpse Bride was one of the first stop-motion movies I ever watched where I knew how it was made - meaning with dolls etc and not animated on a computer or paper. It was also my introduction to Tim Burton, one of the few movie instructors where I will watch a movie simply because his name is on it.
Paranorman is brilliant in its premise and creation; I genuinely didn't see the plot twist coming and I think it's a good example of how you can make horror movies for children while also teaching them an important lesson. Most of the characters are likeable and those that are not aren't in the movie for too long. And, again, I legit didn't see the twist coming.
And Coraline, holy fucking shit what a movie. There's a TikTok account I follow that is filled with videos purely talking about all the insane details that went into this movie. Nothing in Coraline is by accident and everything has thought put into it. The characters are great, the visuals are astonishing and the story, while not entirely unique in its bare form, is done in a very funny and scary way. Also a great horror movie for kids.
Also seriously check out the TikTok account, I spent hours watching these videos xD
So, I guess while I love all of these... I have to pick Coraline. There's just too much to love and all the easter eggs and details makes me love it more. I love when there's hidden stuff, subtle foreshadowing and little secrets you can keep finding every time you watch it.
Oh, and because I know someone is gonna ask... I don't hate The Nightmare Before Christmas, but I never saw it as this epic masterpiece the majority of the world does. I like it fine, but I've only ever watched twice, once as a kid and once as an adult. I was expecting to like it more as an adult, but I was still kinda underwhelmed. It's objectively a great movie, but doesn't do much for me personally.

top 9 movies i watched in 2024, tagged by @confinesofmy :) i will admit this was kind of scary, because for a moment i was scared i didn't watch 9 movies i liked this year. luckily this was not so <3
1. brokeback mountain. first time seeing this movie at the tender age of 27. cried a lot.
2. 12 angry men. we need more chamber dramas, there's nothing i love more than a chamber drama. the ultimate litmus test to whether you can write interesting dialogue or not. if god is real this will happen in luigi mangione's case. frustrating to watch.
3. stopmotion. visually fantastic movie exploring the effects of parental abuse, and the way that presents after losing that parent. it's not groundbreaking, but it IS solid and ticks all my boxes on what i'm looking for in a horror movie.
4. past lives. cried. this list is NOT in order, if it was this would be number 2 i think. got into an argument with my friends about the value that different types of love hold in a person's life. cried again.
5. i saw the tv glow. it turns out movies are only good if they make me cry. it's not a subtle movie, but it's very intentional with its message, and it landed solidly for me.
6. it follows. fuck man it sure does.
7. conclave. just a fun time! visually quite pretty. not necessarily a lot of depth to it imo, but it has an extremely clear message, and i do love a silly catty drama with old men in it. bitches named vincent have and will always rule.
8. mamma mia. such a fun musical, i can not BELIEVE i hadn't watched it until now. silly fun goofy time and meryl streep is there.
9. twisters. sorry for thinking glen powell and daisy edgar jones have insane rizz. it's a movie that hit me right in my romcom nostagia and i had a good time with it! kind of a throuple if you include the tornadoes as a vital part of the relationship. which i do.
tagging ummmmm @eastgaysian @courtjester69420 @blackchrlstmas1974 @jadziadykes @fooltofancy @goatsandgangsters @bredforloyalty if you'd like to share your movies <3

The gargoyle suit for the 'Lover's Vow' segment of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie was fabricated by KNB EFX Group
Mike Deak wore the suit, with the wings attached to a harness. The mechanics inside the suit were engineered by Mark Rappaport and Mecki Heussen. The gargoyle suit's paintjob was designed and applied by Bob and Ed Yang.
KNB also had to fabricate two 'baby' gargoyle puppets, with animatronics installed to allow their faces to emote.
The stopmotion sequence of the gargoyle flying off was instead handled by Michael Burnett Productions . Burnett himself casted the foam latex puppet and sculpted the wings, as well as the paintjob. The armature was made by Ted Rae, with Ernest Farino doing the animating.
