Story idea # 13
This is different than before or after this one:
PROMPTS FOR YEAR 2025! =D
I have side blog for this with bit better explanations and guidelines but enjoy creating! ^.^ @prompts-from-the-golden-wolf
The main info will be in there but in short: - No deadlines - Do the prompts in whatever order you wish - Use whatever pronouns you want to - You can use the same prompt as many times as you wish - Create whatever you wish: writing, drawing, music... The list is endless, just pick what you wish and enjoy creating - This is mainly for Legend of Zelda and the AUs people have created from the francise but all fandoms and original creations are also welcomed - Tag me within the actual work if you wish your creation to be found and reblogged into my side blog
Now, without further stuff... THE PROMPTS! =D
There are 53 main prompts and 6 extra prompts. One main prompt for each week of the year 2025 (wanted full year into there and hence the extra week's prompt). - All are speech lines I've come up with. =) - I have tried to put some of them to fit into the holiday that's within the given week. The holidays have been informed in brackets. - Most are whump styled with few for fluff but you can do whatever you wish for the prompts. If you want it hard, then try to do fluff for whumpy prompt and vice versa. ;)
Prompt # 1: “Make a wish for it will be your last words.”
Prompt # 2: “You call that a strike? Ha! Didn’t even feel it! How about you try again and this time you hit like you mean it.”
Prompt # 3: “I have no idea what you’re meaning but if that’s what you believe in then I doubt I have a way to change your mind.”

Prompt # 11: “Anyone knowing where we are?”
Prompt # 12: “If you think that’s the right melody then you don’t know a thing about music.”
Prompt # 13: “Hero, huh? Not so grand now, are you.”
Prompt # 14: “No. No. No. Not that one either. No. Where is it? No. AAARGH! WHO THE HELL STOLE M—! Oh, there it is.”
Prompt # 15: “What can you create out of one third of red potion, too short rope to be much of use and one arrow but having no bow?” – “A way out of here.”

Extra 2: Bad guy to Legend, LU: “Legend, huh? How are you alive when legends are old stories rotting in ancient bookshelves?”
Extra 3: Time, LU: “Stay in defense! Don’t let them through! We’ll survive this as long as we do things wisely!”
Extra 4: Time, LU: “Harm them and you will find out the hard way why they call me Protective Alpha Wolf.”
Extra 5: Time, LU: “Why am I wasting my breath on this? None of you is listening to a word I’m saying.”

MamaCat MamaCat Where Have You Been?
Tumblr media
Here I sit, in NOT an airport bar. Don’t fly out of Newark Concourse B gates42 – 46 if you can help it. The amenities bite. Sorry not Sorry, Newark Liberty International.
So I got myself this dry but relatively nutritious pre-packaged turkey & Swiss on wholegrain with lettuce. It’s not great but it’s not bad, and it’s 26 grams of protein that I need right the hell now.
I just had a holiday vacation in New York and I am completely exhausted. #DoingItRight
It was the first time I’ve been back to the City in four long and eventful years. The first time since the pandemic. The first time since the career-ending dance rehearsal injury. And it was glorious.
I have lived in New York, auditioned here, worked here, lived and loved here. But I have never had the opportunity to just enjoy the City the way the touristas do. I have never been free to just wander about having fun and no deadlines. Turns out it’s really awesome.
Don’t get me wrong.  Of course there was business. But business was concluded Thursday night. I timed my trip to visit my friends Shannon & Phillip so I could attend a voiceover thing. It was another one of those gatherings that I have begun attending, but instead of over a thousand people at VO Atlanta, it was an intimate group of four students and a coach during the day, and a downtown cocktail mixer of around forty that evening. Could not have been lovelier.
Tumblr media
(Good grief. We don’t board for two hours. If I had been trying to arrive two hours before boarding, there would have been transit chaos. So instead, here we are… sheesh. Why am I flying out of Newark??😖)
And the next day, we did very jolly little. Ventured down to the Park. Met Shannon at Whole Foods after her class. She made chili for dinner. So low-key.
And then came Saturday, the Saturday that the Chamber of Commerce wishes was depicted in all the TV shows and movies. The sparkling blue sky. The air temperature, neither hot nor cold, just… air! The doggies of New York, out walking their humans in the sunshine and sweet fresh air. We wandered west to Little Island from the 14th street stop on the 1. We wandered further downtown, mainly via the Hudson River greenway, then across on Jane to Hudson Street, and the next thing you know we’re having guacamole and drinking cocktails called, “Love Come Down" at the White Horse, entertaining the waitstaff and making off-color remarks about Dylan Thomas. Those cocktails are extremely well crafted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It’s frikkin cold in here. It’s only 70 degrees outside and lucky us, the air conditioning is on. Goody goody. Suddenly very happy to be bearing a coat. Besides, I look damn good in this coat.)
Sustained by the powers of an appy and a drink, we continued downtown to meet Shannon’s husband Phillip at the Dead Rabbit. If you’re a fan of NYC history like I am, then you may have correctly inferred from context that we were now well downtown, Water and Broad, Bowery Boys & Little Five Points stuff. On the Historic Fraunces Tavern tour and everything.
And verily, thanks to the largesse of HusbandCat, back in Minneapolis, we ate and drank like 19th-century street gang members. No, more like the Old Money would have.. Yum yum yum no apologies no excuses. We enjoyed craft cocktails, Irish Stew, and all manner of good filling foods before we staggered gently, as a trio, down to South Ferry for an after-dinner stroll.
You can’t party like that at home. Even if you really live in New York, these are the things you save for company, because it’s just too expensive and time consuming to wander Manhattan and eat at expensive places. The One Percent can manage it. But we of the working classes wait for Special occasions.
Sunday, I met Bethany & Adam Sharp for brunch. They’re friends from Minneapolis theatre adventures gone by. We had an excellent meal in the Heights, and afterwards I got to see my dear old friend Gilley, their lovely Russian Blue cat. He's about 12 now. And I swear he remembered me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I left their apartment and began wandering around Washington Heights, I checked in with Shannon to see if she was up for adventures or in for personal mental health. She definitely wanted some Me Time for herself, and that’s when I hiked over to the A train and 181st and headed straight for Coney Island.
We’re boarding. Tell you more later. Meow, darlings.

Move On VII (Modern!Ivar/Reader)
A/N: Hello!🥰 It’s 2am and I can't sleep, I have a terrible headache and everything hurts (I’m getting my period this week lol) so I thought I’d try to finish the chapter and post it so I’d feel a bit more productive. I had a lot of deadlines and exams these past weeks because I finished some courses and started new ones. Now I have a week of holidays but I can't relax :( I’ve been sick too, so I barely had time to focus on writing. This chapter might suck, but I’d try to fix it with the next one (which if everything goes well I’ll post this week too!). There’s only three chapters left after this one, so at least try to enjoy it!💞 Thank you for all the comments and the messages🙏🏻 I’ll try to answer to all of them!
Warnings: angst, a bit of fluff, Ivar, talk of jealousy, mentions of harassment (this part is complicated, it’s nothing very detailed, but basically mentions of someone trying to flirt, making unwanted advances and putting a woman on an uncomfortable situation, don’t read that part if it triggers you, it was difficult to write and I can imagine it can be difficult to read💕)
Words: 3553

my boy Hvitty by @honestsycrets
For a moment, Ivar's face softened enough for you to let your guard down. He sighed and sat on your bed, running his hand through his hair.
"You were with Freydis two days ago, right?"
You tensed up. Was it what you thought it was?
"Yes, we went to a club together... Well, not together, on the same group..."
"And..." he bit his lip "Y/N, did you see her kissing someone?"
You sighed, sitting down next to him. You might wanted to hit him, yell at him and kick him out of your flat, but at the same time you didn't want him hurt. You didn't want him feeling what you were feeling.
"Who told you?"
"Hvitserk" he shrugged "It's true or not?"
"Yes, Ivar" you said softly. Your hand touched his shoulder hesitantly, trying to give him some type of comfort without making him feel uncomfortable. Ivar wasn't one that liked physical contact with someone that wasn't his partner "I went to the bathroom because I didn't feel well" you muttered "And when I got out I saw her leaving the club with a guy, and they kissed"
He nodded slowly. For a moment you thought he'd cry.
"I'm sorry, I would have told you sooner but I..."
"I don't believe you" he moved abruptly to push your hand away, and turned to glare at you with his jaw clenched "I think you're making this up"
You raised an eyebrow. The urge of slapping him came back stronger than ever.
"What?"
"I think you're jealous" he narrowed his eyes "I think you're lying"
You gasped, shaking your head and rubbing your eyes.
"Why would I lie to you, Ivar?"
"Because you are in love with me" he stared at you with a serious face. He actually believed it "You want me to leave Freydis and go back to you"
You stood up, glaring at him and biting your tongue to hold yourself back from yelling a string of insults at him.
"When have I ever lied to you?" you nearly trembled in rage.
"I don't know, Y/N" he glared back at you "You tell me"
"Never" you spat "Never in my entire life I lied to you Ivar, and yes, I might be in love with you, I will always love you, and that's exactly why I would never even imagine to make up something like this to hurt you" the tears threatened to fall down your cheek but you refused to let them, he didn't deserve those tears "I would never hurt you in purpose, I'm not like you"
He clenched his jaw again and looked away.
"I'm tired of you treating me like shit, I don't deserve it" you shook your head "And I don't care how much I miss you, I'm not letting you come to my house to call me a liar, Ivar"
He rolled his eyes with an annoyed expression. You wondered why he even bothered to come and ask you if he didn't believe it.
"I love Freydis, Y/N"
"I know" you shrugged, your heart broke a bit more if it was even possible, but you managed to hide it.
"And she loves me" he insisted "And she makes me feel special, and she made me realize that I am special" he shrugged "She wouldn't lie to me"
You took a deep breath, shaking your head.
"You can believe whatever you want, I just told you what I saw"
"Fine" he rolled his eyes again "But don't go around telling everyone"
"So you don't believe me?" you asked softly.
This time Ivar hesitated. He stared at you for a couple of seconds before frowning and looking down.
"I don't know" he muttered "I'll talk to her"
You nodded. He stood up with some difficulty, groaning and grabbing his leg with a grimace. You bit your lip and looked at him carefully. You didn't remember the last time his eyes were so blue, and his movements were much slower and accompanied with soft groans. But you chose not to say anything, he wasn't in the mood.
"Ivar" you said softly when he was about to open the door. He didn't turn around, but he stood still "You said she makes you feel special... Did I ever make you feel like that?"
You didn't even know why you asked that. It was something that had been on your mind ever since he broke up with you, even if it wouldn't make a difference now, at least you'd know if he had felt something that was at least close to what you felt for him. If he had loved you, even if it was only once. Because that would mean you had been enough.
Ivar hesitated. He stood there, with his head lowered and breathing heavily. Then he opened the door and left the room.
When he reached the living room, he glared at Alfred again, who seemed relieved to see him leaving.
"The two of you can... Go back to whatever you were doing" he scoffed, but Alfred caught him clenching his jaw at the sight "She's good in bed, if you don't believe me ask my brother"
"I think you should leave, Ivar" he stayed still, not letting him see that he had bothered him.
He rolled his eyes, but left the flat closing the door roughly. As soon as he had left, Alfred stood up and approached your bedroom. He knocked on the door, even if it was widely open. He heard you sniffing inside but waited patiently until you responded.
"Yeah... Come in"
You were sitting on the bed, drying your tears with the back of your hands.
"Hey" he sat next to you as you took a deep breath. It was like going back to the beginning. Would it ever end? "Are you okay? What did he tell you? Want me to call someone?"
You shook your head. You weren't in the mood to see anyone else right now.
"I'm sorry, this was a disaster again" you muttered, sniffing.
"It's fine, it's not your fault" he caressed your arm softly "I really enjoyed dinner with you, let's ignore your ex barging into your house part"
You giggled, rubbing your face and shaking your head.
"We can... Eat dessert?" you shrugged "Try and fix this"
"Sure" Alfred smiled "I think you could use a bit of chocolate"
________________________________________
For the first time in months, he didn't feel like seeing Freydis. Ivar was furious, and for the first time he couldn't really blame anyone but himself. He didn't really believed Hvitserk when he mentioned Freydis cheating, but he went to see you anyway. He wanted to hear that Hvitserk lied from you, because he trusted you.
But then you confirmed it, and he convinced himself you were just jealous and trying to break them up. But it wasn't like you. Besides, you had sex with his brother and were in the middle of a date (was it a date?) with Alfred. It seemed like you were trying to move on.
Now he had doubts. Serious doubts. And he didn't really know how to deal with it. He never had this problem with you. Should he just ask her? Or maybe throw hints until she said something?
Ivar yawned and rubbed his eyes. He was so tired he felt like passing out at any moment. Now he wasn't only in pain and stressed about Freydis' possible cheating, but he was also thinking about what you'd be doing with the fucking Alfred after that dinner.
He didn't even know why he didn't answer your question. A simple 'yes' would have been enough, and maybe the two of you would feel better afterwards. Ivar missed you, and even if he was angry at you and Hvitserk for fucking, he thought he'd like to be friends with you again, when things had calmed down a bit. But after his own reaction seeing you move on with other people he wasn't sure he could do it.
"Ivar?" Freydis' sweet voice startled him. He heard the front door closing and her steps towards his bedroom. He had given her a spare key, and now he was regretting it.
She opened the door without knocking, and her beautiful face lightened up when she saw him.
"Hi..." He cleared his throat, his voice weak and tired. She pouted and frowned in worry, moving to kneel on the bed next to him.
"Are you feeling well? Do you need anything, my love?" she kissed his forehead softly. Ivar frowned and, for the first time during their relationship, he moved his head away.
"I'm fine" he lied "Just tired"
She caressed his face and he felt uncomfortable. Should he just...?
"Ivar" she muttered "You know you can tell me everything, right?"
His eyes found hers again. Freydis didn't stop smiling even if she obviously noticed his cold demeanor.
"I love you" she insisted "More than anyone else, you are the most special person I've ever met, and I'd do anything for you" she whispered into his ear "You know that, you know you're the most important person for me"
Ivar nodded slowly. She told him ever single day how much she loved him. With words, whispering into his ear and giving him sweet kisses that clouded his mind. Freydis looked at him like he was the only man in the world. She would never betray him.
"Yeah" he relaxed into her arms "I know"
_______________________________________
"Ivar, please, talk to me" you sighed, leaving your coat on the back of the couch with a sigh "What's wrong?"
You knew what was wrong, you had seen it on his face. But you were determined to make him talk, to make him tell you what was wrong so the two of you could talk about it and work it out.
He kept scowling, looking away and clenching his jaw, and he sat on the couch and threw his crutch on the floor without looking at you.
After nearly a month too busy to spend time with each other, Ivar had managed to get reservations for one of the most expensive restaurants in town. One of those you couldn't even imagine to glance at the door when you walked past it. It was incredibly hard to get a table in there, but the Lothbroks had contacts, and no one on his right mind would refuse a reservation to Ivar.
You were so excited, and treated yourself to an entire day of self-care, with a relaxing bath, facial masks and shopping for new lingerie to spend the night with him after one of the most stressing months of your life. You wore a light blue, silk dress that felt soft and comfortable around your body. Ivar's eyes flashed when he saw you, and you couldn't stop smirking for a few minutes. You felt sexy, confident and desired, and couldn't wait to get home so you could enjoy his attention in a more intimate atmosphere.
But Ivar wasn't the only one that appreciated your outfit. The waiter at the restaurant seemed to like it too, and he made it clear since the beginning.
You had raised an eyebrow at the first comment, but smiled softly and thanked him when he called you "beautiful lady". Ivar didn't like it, and he glared at the man until he left. Ignoring your boyfriend, the waiter kept flirting with you, no matter how Ivar cut him off and interrupted him whenever he started talking to you.
Until he had exploded. He practically threatened the waiter with a cold, calmed voice. It had scared you, as you knew he was unpredictable and could lose his temper very easily.
During the ride back home, he hadn't said a word. Instead, he held your hand and kept you close. Until the two of you reached his flat and you couldn't stand it anymore.
"Ivar" you insisted, sitting next to him "Are you angry at me?"
He looked at you briefly, and shrugged.
"No"
That relieved you. At least he didn't blame you. As a woman, you had to deal with that kind of situations during your entire life, and most times you got blamed, saying you dressed too 'provocative' and that men had instincts. It wasn't nice, it was actually very uncomfortable and you never knew what to say. You thought that if they saw you were with your boyfriend they wouldn't say anything, but apparently they didn't respect any of you.
"I didn't..."
"It's not your fault, Y/N" he rolled his eyes "I'm just angry"
"Then talk to me, tell me what's wrong"
"A guy just spent an hour and a half flirting with you on my face, Y/N" he scoffed "He stared at you and kept flirting even if I was there with you"
"I know" you sighed "I'm sorry, I didn't engage with him, I ignored him but he kept..."
"He did it because I can't walk, Y/N"
You raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sure that wasn't the main reason"
"Not the main reason, the main reason is obvious" he growled, rubbing his eyes "But I can assure you, if you had been there with Ubbe or Hvitserk he wouldn't have done it"
"Ivar..."
"You know it"
"Ivar, you know I don't care about that" you sighed "We have this conversation every single day, and we will keep having it until you realize that I love you"
Ivar stood silent. Yes, you did tell him that constantly, but he couldn't help but wonder when you'd realize he wasn't worth it.
"Hey" you insisted. He sighed and shook his head.
"Are you okay?" He turned to look at you "Do you need me to go back there with my brothers and kick his ass?"
You giggled, shaking your head and moving closer to him.
"No, I'm fine" you kissed his cheek "I'm sorry that idiot ruined our night"
Ivar hummed as you pouted, leaning your head on his shoulder.
"We still have time to fix it" his eyes fixed on the dress you were wearing. It infuriated him, but he could understand why the guy at the restaurant was so obsessed with you.
You smiled softly. He looked more relaxed, and he finally leant against your body.
"Y/N, can you promise me something?"
You raised your head, frowning softly at him when he sounded too serious.
"I... Think so?"
"If you ever feel attracted to someone else, if you feel like you're falling in love with someone else..."
"Ivar..."
"No, let me finish" he shook his head "Please tell me first"
"I don't think that will happen, but I promise I'll tell you" you pressed your forehead against his "I would never cheat on you, Ivar, and believe me when I say I can't even think about looking at other people"
He understood that feeling. Ivar saw beautiful women everyday, he wasn't blind and he looked at them, but at the end of the day you were the only one he wanted. For him, you were the most beautiful person in the world.
Ivar leant in to kiss you softly. You smiled against his lips and your arms went around his neck to pull him closer. The night might had started as a disaster, but the two of you intended to fix that.
________________________________________
"So you still intend to go to that wedding" Hvitserk raised an eyebrow when he saw the store you were leading him to "After everything that happened"
You shrugged, biting your lip.
"Torvi and Ubbe called to make sure I was going, and I still feel bad for talking to her like that..."
"Don't" he rolled his eyes "You were right, she's just excited because if you dated Alfred you'd join their club"
"What club?" you chuckled "I'm not going to date Alfred, or anyone, for a while. She knows that" you shrugged.
Hvitserk finished his cigarette and looked at the store again.
"So you brought me to find a dress" he sighed "I thought you said you had a fun plan for today"
"And what is better than shopping for clothes, Hvitty?" You giggled "Besides, I'm sure you need a suit too! Because you're coming, right?"
You knew Hvitserk wasn't very excited about the wedding. He didn't really get along with Ubbe anymore, and Torvi had made very clear she didn't like him. But you couldn't attend without him. Hvitserk had became your rock, your main support and the only one that seemed to understand every single thing that went through your mind.
"I don't know..."
"Please" you pouted "Please, Hvitty, I need you there" you tilted your head.
"You're going with Alfred, aren't you? Why do you need me there then?"
"I can go with you too" you smiled softly "Or you can invite Thora" you winked "But please, don't leave me alone with them"
He sighed, low-key enjoying the fact that you needed him there. He was going to go with you anyway, but he wanted to hear you begging a bit.
"Okay" he shrugged "But if my family gets annoying, we're leaving"
You nodded with a wide smile on your face and jumped to hug him tightly. Hvitserk couldn't help but smile and hug you back, turning his head to kiss your temple softly.
"Was Ivar too harsh the other day?" he asked, on a more serious tone, as soon as the hug ended. He has wanted to kill his brother when he learnt (after Alfred called him and bitterly implied that he should control Ivar better) that he had practically bursted into your flat.
Your expression changed, and your smile faded. Hvitserk felt a bit guilty, but he truly wanted to know.
"No" you shrugged "He was... Ivar, he said I was making things up because I was jealous, and then proceeded to explain to me that he loved Freydis, and that she makes him feel special and yeah" you rolled your eyes, walking to the store.
"She just knows what he wants to hear" Hvitserk shook his head, opening the door so you could step into the store "She inflates his ego, that's all, it's not love, its manipulation"
"Maybe she does love him" you sighed, shaking your head "They seemed to be much closer than we were"
"Maybe" he shrugged "I just know my brother was in love with you, but now I barely recognize him"
You opened your mouth to say something, but a woman approached you with a wide smile.
"Hello! Can I help you?"
____________________________________
"I'd pick that one" Hvitserk had put his head inside the changing room, making you jump and look at him through the mirror.
"Do you think so? I liked the red one"
He raised an eyebrow.
"You always wear red"
You bit your lip. He was right, you always wore red. Maybe because it was Ivar's favorite color, because you liked the way he looked at you when he saw you dressed in red. How he'd smile and kiss you deeply before whispering into your ear how beautiful you looked.
Maybe because you liked it.
"I know what you're thinking" Hvitserk shook his head entering the changing room and closing the door. He didn't seem to care about the warning the woman had given him earlier "Your eyes lighten up and you get that enamored expression and yeah, I know what you're thinking"
"I don't know what you're talking about" you smiled with an innocent expression.
Hvitserk rolled hie eyes.
"You look pretty in red, we all agree on that, but this one" he pointed at the dress you were trying "You look like a fucking goddess with this one, you could come and break my heart with this on and I'd thank you"
You giggled, shaking your head. The silk dress was black and tight around your body, but width under your hips. It had a split that exposed your right leg, and it was truly beautiful. Hvitserk chose it, and even if you felt a bit awkward, you kind of liked it.
"Maybe I'll take this one" you muttered, caressing the soft fabric.
"It would be rude to look better than the bride" he winked at you.
"Shut up" you laughed "You're too sweet, Hvitty, I wish I was in love with you"
He smiled softly at you.
"I wish I was in love with you too, you're like my soulmate"
"Maybe we are soulmates" you turned to look at him with a smirk "But friend soulmates"
"I agree" he winked at you again. You were used to Hvitserk's flirty tone, and this time you wished you could feel something more than friendly love for him. Things would be much easier if you had fallen in love with him.
"Thank you, Hvitty" you pouted. You took his hands and looked at him "You're helping me so much and you're my best friend, and you didn't have to cope with me and my breakdowns"
He shook his head with a smile and moved to hug you again. You relaxed against his body.
"You're literally the sweetest person in the world, Y/N" he muttered "Now, I'm going to get out before that woman thinks we're fucking and calls the police"

Christmas Without Snow
Keanu Reeves  x reader (A/n- Another Christmas centered fic cause I went crazy this year.)
Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Well, it’s not really Christmas without snow,” Y/n giggled, her cell wedged between her ear and angled shoulder as she sat cross legged on her living room sofa, fingers busy on her laptop, trying to get everything done so she could finally get to enjoying the holidays. Well, as much as she could enjoy it without Keanu.
He’d been away filming for going on three months by then, and while he’d promised that he’d be back in Los Angeles just in time to spend Christmas  with her, and their families, a series of blunders and changes in schedules had seen that he’d be away until New Years. “Not true,” he chuckled on his end. From the minute he’d said ‘hello’, Y/n could hear the tire in his voice, though, when she’d politely suggested that he get some rest and that they’d talk when he was up to it, Keanu had reminded her that as long as she was the person on the other end, he’d always be up to it. “You've lived in California your entire life, all you know is Christmas without snow.”
Dragging her lower lip through her teeth, Y/n stopped typing for a minute, “Fine,” she grumbled, “I guess…..what I really wanna say is that it’s not really Christmas without you.” They’d been together for going on six years, and every one of those holiday seasons had been spent together. Breaking tradition that year, it felt wrong, and Christmas without her husband, well, it wouldn’t really be Christmas at all.
“Y/n…..” Her name seeped off Keanu’s lips in an affectionate sigh, laced with the twinge of regret. He’d tried his best, they both had, but that year, between their hectic schedules, it was hard to find a way to be together. Production on his next movie still had a lot of ground to cover and Y/n had just taken on a new assignment with a tight deadline. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled, and she could tell he was beating himself up over it.
“It’s not your fault baby,” she smiled faintly, even if he couldn’t see it, “You tried to be here, I tried to be there, but its just not working out for us this year. But,” Y/n, knowing that Keanu was probably still upset about the distance between them, was determined to cheer him up and help him see the brighter side of things, “Even if we're not in the same house, or country, we’re still gonna spend the day together. Everyone’s coming over on Christmas Eve, so we can do tons of calls and FaceTime's, and it’ll be just like you’re right here with us. And then, you’ll be back by New Years, and we can watch the fireworks together, ring in the new year,” she giggled suggestively, earning herself a low rumble on his end.
“I know, you’re right. It’s just,” the prep in Keanu’s mood withered away faster than Y/n had expected it to and it wasn’t long before he was down again, “You know how weird the time zones are, by the time it's morning for you, the day’s already over here. And then there’s that dinner, with the cast,” he sighed heavily, and she swore she could picture the frown weighing down his gorgeously rugged features, “I don’t mind going, and it’s like you said yesterday; it could be fun. But without you…...It’s just a little lonely.”
A wave of emotion washed over her and all it took was the low drop of his voice and the genuineness of his words to have tears stinging her eyes. Y/n hated the fact that she’d have to spend one of her favorite days of the year without her husband, but what she hated even more was the fact that he’d be feeling so down while she got the comfort of having both their families around. He’d be missing so much.
Sniffling, Y/n tried to keep herself in check so she could properly comfort him, “Ke….” She scoffed sadly, “I hate that you feel this way. I wish I could be there with you.”
“I wish that too, but I don’t want you worrying about me too much,” he brushed off her worry, proving as he always did that his concern for her always triumphed whatever he was feeling, “You have enough on your plate sweetheart, I’ll manage.”
Tumblr media
Three days later The Christmas Eve dinner with the cast and crew had been a welcome distraction, though, from the minute Keanu returned to his hotel room, so late in the night that it technically wasn’t night anymore, he felt the feeling wash over him again. The loneliness, the weight on his shoulders, the hollowness. He missed her, his Y/n, his wife. It was Christmas, a day that she loved so dearly, one that was so special to them, and they weren’t even together for it.
Briefly, before Keanu had turned off his phone, he’d considered giving her a call, just so he could hear her voice before retiring for the night, but it was so late, and the wine he’d had at dinner was befogging his thoughts, making it a little difficult to work out what time it would be for her. What if she was busy? Or worse yet, asleep? The last thing he’d want was to disturb her rest.
So instead of trying to figure it out, Keanu had succumbed to the second best thing; going to bed and sleeping off the slight blur off booze, just so he could awake at a more appropriate time, one where he’d be able to think coherently before buzzing Y/n.
That night though, sleep had been trying to come by, for all he could think was the fact that he’d be awaking on Christmas morning without her. They wouldn’t have hot cocoa as they exchanged presents, he wouldn’t taste test her cranberry stuffing that was perfect every time and Y/n wouldn’t tease him about how she wouldn’t be spending the night on the couch with him if he decided he couldn’t move after dinner. Instead, they’d have lacking phone calls where he wouldn’t be able to touch her and a barrage of pictures that would, in the end, just serve to make him feel like he’d been left out.
Keanu had tossed and turned fretfully for a while, the thoughts all swirling around in his head. Though, just near three am, his eyes had finally felt heavy, and by the shift of the hour, he was whisked to sleep, unaware of anything until daylight. Which came considerably too soon.
At first, when he’d shifted groggily, pulling the blanket closer up to his chin, trying to break the winter chill that had crept through the minute sliver of space between the window and the sill, he vaguely became aware of a distant knocking, not thinking that it could be anything more than a dream. Though, when he heard the insistent knocking again, that time a bit louder, he groaned softly, weaning his eyes open and wondering what his unannounced guest could possibly want at seven am.
With a heavy, reluctant sigh, He peeled back the duvet, suppressing a shiver before heading to the bathroom to freshen up as quickly as possible, The last thing he needed was someone from set seeing him disheveled and disarrayed. Afterwards, when he’d made himself presentable, Keanu dragged himself out of the adjoined bathroom, staggering through his large bedroom, out to the sitting area in his suite before finally making it to the front door.
The person on the other side had knocked again as he undid the locks, causing him to roll his eyes as he undid the deadbolt. Needless to say, he was a little more than annoyed to have been woken that early, and hoped that his visitor had a good reason for their persistence, though, when Keanu eventually pulled the door open, he sucked in a breath, taken aback.
“Merry Christmas,” Y/n beamed excitedly, one bag slung over her shoulder while her large suitcase stayed stationed near her legs. She was all bundled up in a thick long coat, with her favorite sweater visible beneath. Her cheeks were slightly wind burnt and her hair, peeking out from under her woolen hat, still sported specs of fluffy white snow in its attractively tousled state.
“You’re here!” He chortled excitedly, immediately scoping her up into his arms, lifting Y/n off the floor and spinning her around. Gently setting her down again, Keanu pressed an eager kiss to her ready lips, not breaking until they both needed air, “I can’t believe you’re here! What about work? And everyone was supposed to be at our place-”
“I told my boss that it was Christmas and that I needed to be with my husband, and our family can manage one year without us.” Fondly, Y/n tilted her head as she smiled, running her gloved hands up Keanu’s firm biceps, “I told you,” she giggled quietly, glancing out the window behind him, just to chance a glimpse of the white flakes drifting downwards before meeting his gaze again, “It’s not Christmas without snow.”
“Yeah,” Keanu huffed, unable to contain the cheek splitting grin on his face, moving one of his large hands between them, “And it's not Christmas without you,” gently, he laid a warm palm on her bump, barely hidden beneath her thick, cozy sweater, “Both of you.”

~~~~~~~
It’s a beautiful fall day and you should be enjoying yourself. The cool crisp air, the crunch of the leaves beneath your feet, a warm pumpkin spice latte in your hands. But instead you are walking to the post office.
A little over two years ago, you met your boyfriend, Seokjin, at this very post office. You were in a hurry to mail off an application to law school and he was there picking up packages from his PO box. Seokjin had boxes piled high in his arms and in your haste, you ran directly into him. His packages went everywhere and you scrambled to help him gather them up.
“Law school? That’s impressive!” Seokjin said, handing you your envelope. When you made eye contact with him, you knew he was something special. He waited for you to mail your application, then you helped him carry his boxes to his car. You’ve been together ever since.
Dating Seokjin has way more ups than downs. He’s beautiful, knows how to cook, has the funniest jokes, and he has the cutest laugh. Just thinking about how perfect he is makes you emotional. Especially after the fight the two of you had last week.
It was a dumb fight, just arguing about who’s family you would visit during the holidays. It didn’t seem like that big of a deal at the time. It ended with laughing and kisses. You wouldn’t even be worried, except Jin has been acting weird since that day.
He texted you earlier today asking you to meet at “our post office.” The one where you met. Now you’re worried. You’ve managed to convince yourself that he’s asked you to meet there for some elaborate break up scene. How romantic. A break up in the spot where you first met.
Your thoughts begin to spiral as you approach the post office. Just a few feet further down the sidewalk. The idea of losing Seokjin stops you in your tracks. The past two years have been amazing. He’s been your rock through the pain and turmoil of law school. But you can’t make him stay if he wants to leave. Maybe you can still talk things through.
“Excuse me!” Someone says loudly behind you. You step to the side to let them pass you, still not ready for whatever is waiting inside the post office. You lean your back against a wall and take a few deep breaths.
Your phone starts vibrating. Seokjin is calling. Probably wondering where you are. It’s not like you to be late. As you pick up your phone, you see Seokjin stepping out of the post office. He’s wearing his cute glasses and a turtleneck sweater. He doesn’t see you standing a few feet away, back against the front of the building.
“Y/N? Where are you?” He asks hurriedly. You take a deep breath, the knot in your stomach tightening.
“I’m here.” You whisper into the phone, still frozen.
“Where?” He asks, turning. He spots you and hangs up the phone. He begins walking toward you. Your legs are shaking, fingers twitching. The nerves are written so plainly across your face.
“Are you okay? You look upset.” Seokjin asks as he approaches you. “Oh... did you figure out why I asked you to come here?” He frowns.
“Maybe.” You shrug. He reaches out for your hand and begins leading you to the post office doors.
“Well, remember that fight we had not too long ago?” He pauses in front of the doors. Here it comes. Your stomach is sinking into the ground. You squeeze his hand, asking for comfort from the person who is about to hurt you.
“It made me realize... I think that we are... well we are trees.” He’s stammering. Trees? “We have deep roots and we’ve survived the storms because our roots are tangled. We are better together.” He smiles and reaches for the door handle. What is happening?
As you enter the lobby of the post office, you see a large banner that says Will You Marry Me? Confused, you turn back to face Seokjin and he is down on one knee, a ring box in his hand. He opens it and a sparkling ring is shining up at you.
“So? Will you spend the rest of your life with me?” His voice cracks and you can tell he’s really holding back tears. You can’t hold yours back though.
“Yes! Of Course I will!” You fall down to your knees to wrap your arms around Seokjin’s broad shoulders. He kisses you and there’s clapping and cheering from the postal workers. Seokjin pulls away just enough to place the ring on your shaky hand.
“Is this why you’ve been acting so weird?” You ask, still crying. So happy and so relieved.
“I haven’t been acting weird!” Seokjin gasps.
“I thought you were going to break up with me!” Another wave of tears come as you finally admit what you’ve been thinking all along. His eyebrows raise up.
“I will never leave you baby.” Seokjin pulls you back into a hug, holding you tightly so that you know he is never going to let go.
Still Into You
Pairing: Shownu x reader (with special participation from Wonho)
A/N: Hello, my lovelies!!!! So what happens when you’re watching My Best Friend’s Wedding and then listen to Still into You by Paramore? Apparently this story happens...lol. Happy Monday! Hope you’re all staying safe and healthy! Enjoy! <3
------------
You and Hoseok have been best friends for as long as you can remember. You grew up next door to each other for a good majority of your lives, so naturally you did everything together. Where one was, the other would not be too far off. You were so close that even though you were still children, your families swore up and down that you guys will end up going down that special aisle together.
Hoseok getting into middle school sports presented an addition to the little world you both created. Hyunwoo became fast friends with Hoseok and, therefore, became a good friend to you. You three entered your high school years as the three musketeers. With time, you cared for Hyunwoo as much as you did Hoseok. The same could be said for Hyunwoo towards you...and then some. Hoseok wasn’t blind and could see the feelings Hyunwoo began to develop for you.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Hyunwoo denied when Hoseok confronted him about it as they were getting ready to leave the locker room.
“I’m not mad,” Hoseok clarified, “If you do, that’s great! You just need to make it clear to her because that girl is clueless when it comes to these things.”
Hyunwoo went silent, lost in his thoughts. “Hoseok, you never -”
“My love for Y/N is that of a brother for his sister,” Hoseok interrupted knowing exactly what Hyunwoo was going to ask him, “I just want her happy and to always have the best.” Hyunwoo nodded in understanding as he zipped up his backpack. “But you need to hurry up before someone beats you to it,” Hoseok warned.
And Hoseok was right. Someone eventually did beat Hyunwoo to it. That someone lasted a few years until he broke your heart and you had to stop Hyunwoo and Hoseok from breaking his neck. After that, Hyunwoo never left your side. He never wanted to see you cry like that ever again. He also figured that maybe in time, after your heart had healed its wounds, he would be able to get his chance to confess.
Unfortunately, that time never came. You had been accepted to take part in a study abroad program right after graduation and had to leave your two protectors for the first time in your life.
“Hoseok, stop crying!” you exclaimed as you tried to fight the tears threatening to spill from your own eyes.
Hoseok hugged you again for the umpteenth time in the past hour. “I can’t help it! You’ll be alone. I can’t help but worry about you.”
You hugged him back as you secretly wiped your tears away. “I’ll be fine,” you reassured him, “I’ll call every week and I’ll text everyday.”
“Just take care of yourself,” Hoseok asked through his tears, “Be sure to sleep and rest a lot. Don’t stay out too late. Don’t forget your vitamins. I made sure to pack them in your suitcase. Eat - “
“Yes, mom!” you teased, “I’ll be sure to do all that.”
Hoseok cupped your cheek. “Come back home soon,” he said as he placed a kiss on your forehead. You nodded.
You scanned the area for your other protector and found him close to the security gates you had to pass through. Hyunwoo smiled weakly as you walked towards him. You didn't know when it happened, but you had felt your heart flutter at the sight of him for some time now. Leaving him behind hurt a lot. Not that you wouldn't miss Hoseok, you definitely would. But leaving Hoseok felt like leaving family. Leaving Hyunwoo felt like leaving a piece of your heart. You wished you were brave enough to confess this to him, but now wasn't the time. It wouldn't be fair for him with such a huge distance between you two.
You were in front of him with a forced smile on your face. Hyunwoo had always been a man of few words so he took your hands in his and rubbed his thumbs over the top of them. "Be safe," he told you, " Stay healthy and don't forget your meals."
You nodded as you looked at your linked hands, tears welling in your eyes. He lifted your chin forcing you to look at him. He frowned as he saw a rebellious tear spill over. He wiped it away with his thumb. He took you into his arms as you wrapped your own around his waist and buried your face into his chest. “I’m going to miss you,” you said.
Hyunwoo smiled and placed a kiss on the top of your head. “I’ll miss you, too,” he replied, “But you’ll be back home before you know it and we’ll see each other again.”
You pulled away and nodded. He wiped the rest of your tears away and smiled. Hoseok joined you two and gave you one last hug before you went through the security gates without them.
* * *
You had kept in touch with Hoseok, as promised, but he made it easy, constantly texting and calling like a mother hen checking up on the chick that flew the coop. Hyunwoo and you texted every now and then, but not as often as you should. You didn’t want to be as lovingly annoying as Hoseok got. Your heart missed him terribly and there were times you would type out a text saying so only to delete it thinking it would be better not to.
When you returned home, Hoseok was the only one there to greet you as Hyunwoo took a job abroad and the distance between you was still present. You didn’t stay home long, though. Your own job opportunity presented itself taking you to the city hours away. While Hoseok was close enough for visits, you and Hyunwoo still only communicated via texts and phone calls consisting of the usual updates of work and how life was going with moments of silence as you both awkwardly pondered  if you should tell each other how much your hearts hurt being so far away from each other both deciding maybe not now - despite Hoseok’s constant advise that one of you should say something about it.
One would think that holidays and birthdays would have been reason enough for you to reunite as time passed, but schedules always clashed with the jobs you both accepted. Deadlines and busy seasons always got in the way and meetings and conferences always took you in different directions.
It wasn’t until years later that you found yourself nervously driving back home for Hoseok’s wedding. Naturally, he had asked you and Hyunwoo to stand by his side as he vowed to be forever with the love of his life. He would never forgive either of you for missing this big moment of his so you both made the necessary adjustments to make sure this happened. It would be the first time in a very long time that you and Hyunwoo will finally be face to face and your heart was racing with excitement. There was no telling what this night would hold.
You arrived at the hotel where the ceremony and reception were to take place. After you had checked in and dropped your bags in your room, you took your dress and headed to the bridal suite for hair and makeup. You did some bonding with Hoseok’s bride to be. You truly did love her and loved the fact that Hoseok had found such a perfect match. Once you were all dressed and prepared for the wedding, you hugged Hoseok’s future wife and the rest of the bridal party as you left to join your designated side of the wedding.
You knocked on the door to Hoseok’s suite and was greeted by a familiar face.
“Oh, thank God you’re here, Y/N!” Hoseok’s future brother-in-law greeted, “He won’t stop pacing! You try to calm him and I’ll go check on my sister.”
You laughed as you entered the room. “What’s the issue?” you asked Hoseok.
“Just excited and itching to see her,” Hoseok admitted as you approached him and gave him a hug in greeting. “You seem excited yourself. I can feel your heart racing.”
“Of course I’m excited!” you exclaimed as you pulled away and adjusted the lapel to his tux, “It’s your wedding day!”
He smiled at you. “I think you’re excited for something else though.”
“This day is about you and that beautiful bride of yours,” you told him as you narrowed your eyes in warning.
You were smoothing down his sleeves and guiding him through some slow breathing to curb his excitement - as well as your own - when you heard a door close. You turned your attention to the source of the noise and was greeted by the face you looked forward to seeing the most.
“Hey, Y/N,” Hyunwoo greeted with a huge smile on his face as he walked towards you. All you could do was return the smile as he took you into the tightest hug you had ever felt in your life. You returned his embrace, wrapping your arms around his neck. You held on to each other as if your lives depended it on it. Your heart felt whole again.
You felt another pair of arms wrap around you both. “My best friends are both here!” Hoseok exclaimed happily. You and Hyunwoo laughed and your reunion hug turned into a group hug. It was just like old times. A knock on the door interrupted your reunion. You opened it to find the bride’s brother and the wedding planner with your bouquet in hand.
“Time to take your places!” she excitedly exclaimed. You smiled widely as you motioned for Hoseok and Hyunwoo to follow you out the door.
You followed the lead of the wedding planner to the ceremony area. Hoseok was walking ahead with his brother-in-law and you fell into a stride alongside Hyunwoo. You naturally grabbed on to his bended elbow for support. Heels were never your choice of footwear. You gave his arm an affectionate squeeze and held it close to you as you walked resting your head on his shoulder. He gave the top of your head a kiss much like the last time you had seen him and you smiled.
You reached the entrance of the venue. Guests were waiting patiently for the ceremony to begin. Hoseok’s brother-in-law took the lead of the procession. Hyunwoo was situated behind him and you behind Hyunwoo. Hoseok began to take deep, erratic breaths behind you. You turned to him smiling at the mess he had become and guided his breathing once again.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” he told you.
“I’m glad I’m here to witness it,” you replied.
He chuckled. “Do you think our parents are disappointed it’s not you and me walking down the aisle?”
You laughed at the fond memory. “But we are!” you pointed out, “You’re just not waiting at the end of it for me.”
“Maybe it’ll be your other best friend waiting for you at the end,” he smiled gently and looked over your shoulder.
You followed his gaze and saw Hyunwoo smiling at the two of you. You turned back to Hoseok and simply shrugged and gave him a wink. The music to begin the procession cued and you turned back around as you followed the line in.
It was a beautiful ceremony full of happy tears as you witnessed the beginning of the next chapter in your best friend’s life. Soon after, the reception began in the next room. You were seated at the bridal party table in between Hyunwoo and Hoseok. Dinner was served promptly and it was like the three of you were back at the high school cafeteria. Hyunwoo was sharing his food with you and Hoseok was sneaking pieces off your plate. After toasts were made and pictures were taken, the bride and groom finally took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife.
“The bride and groom would now like to invite their guests to share the dance floor for this next song,” the DJ announced over the speaker once the newlywed’s special song was over.
Hyunwoo then simply offered his hand out to you as an invitation to dance with him. You looked at him and smiled as you accepted and followed him onto the floor. He placed his hand around your waist and you rested your hand on his shoulder. He pulled you close as you swayed along to the melody.
“How long are you in town for?” you asked him, breaking the silence that filled the air around you.
“A week,” he answered, “The company wants me to check out a building location while I’m in the area.”
“So with Hoseok away on his honeymoon, it’ll just be me and you,” you said.
“Mmhmm,” Hyunwoo simply responded. He then adjusted so that both your arms were wrapped around his neck while his arms went around your waist and held you even closer. Your heart began to race and you were certain he could hear it. He leaned into you just enough so that his lips were hovering over your ear.
“We can work out a schedule so we can hang out while you’re still here,” you continued talking to cover the butterflies you began to feel, “Since you’ll still be dealing with work, just text me whe-”
“Y/N,” Hyunwoo interrupted you with a whisper, “What if I told you I’m moving back?”
“That would be great!” you exclaimed quietly as you didn’t want to cause damage to Hyunwoo’s hearing. “I won’t be a third wheel with Hoseok and his wife and I’ll have my other best friend to hang out with.”
Hyunwoo hummed. “I think that needs to change.”
“What do you mean?” you asked.
“I don’t want to be friends anymore,” Hyunwoo said. You stopped and pulled away quickly with a look of panic on your face. You couldn’t imagine not having Hyunwoo in your life. How could he even say such a thing? “I want to be more,” he clarified and smiled. You relaxed a little bit and he took you back in his arms and continued your dance. “I’ve waited years for a perfect moment to tell you this,” he whispered his confession in your ear, “After all this time, it’s still you that I hold in my heart and I’m hoping that this time around, now that you know, maybe I can be the man in yours.”
“Oh, Hyunwoo,” you whispered back as you held him tighter, “You’ve always been in there...still are.”
Hyunwoo smiled at your response and placed a kiss at your temple...and one on your forehead...and when you turned to look at each other, he placed one on your lips. It was Hoseok’s turn to look at you both happily as he witnessed the two of you start a new chapter of your own.
Hi~! Can I have a written ship for ateez, bts, and nct 127 please? I’m 21 years old, American, 5’4, Gemini, and I have green eyes. I’m very shy and awkward at first, but I’m more talkative, bubbly, weird, and feisty once you get to know me. I’m also a little moody and lazy at times 🥴. I’m going to school to be a vet tech (love animals) and I love taking naps. I enjoy sweets, soft/cuddly stuff, and trashy tv shows. I prefer to stay inside than go out to have fun, but I do enjoy shopping. Thank you so much! 🤗
Hii sweet pea🌸🌸, thanks for requesting. You sound like a sweetheart. I also appreciate your patience here’s your ship...
From Ateez, I ship you with...Seongwha
Positive Side: An adorable little duo. First of all Aries and Gemini’s are total couple material. There’s very strong communication and strong personalities that can handle each other. So both of your shells would open fast once you meet each other and at that point, the attachment becomes stronger as your days together goes by. Although Seongwha can be the more aggressive one in the relationship, it’s only because he’s a lot more passionate and excited about how things will start to develop in your relationship. Dates together are very soft! Since you both can be lazy at times, you both love to binge watch your favorite movies, dramas and tv shows together all day and have discussions in between every episode. His reactions to every app always makes you laugh because there so over the top. When you try to cuddle close to him, he would try to push you away acting like he didn’t like it at first, but then a second later he would pull you back close to him caressing the top of your head. He would be so supportive of your vet tech career and will be motivating you every step of the way.
Negative Side: As a team, it’s hard for the both of you to follow through with finishing a task/project without the other person. You both have this habit where you tend to procrastinate very easily by taking long naps, talking to your friends or even scrolling through social media. It’s understandable because your both working hard to take your careers to the next level but sometimes it can be hard to keep up with deadlines. For example, one day Seongwha would have to have an extra day exstension for not learning the choreography all because he was hanging out with his friends. In the case with you, you could miss one quiz one night because you stayed up all night watching Boys over Flowers.
But...: You both don’t let this happen all the time, especially when it all depends on your future. If it’s a goal you really want to accomplish or finish something your really interested in, your going to dedicate all the the time and put in effort in order to complete it. Once the job is done it’s back to the normal routine which doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a bad thing. When both of you complete your goals, you reward each other by going shopping or going out on a ice cream date. That’s the best part about this relationship, celebrating each other’s proud moments.
Uggh my gahd, stop it your too cute. 😭✨
From Bts, I ship you with...Jungkook
Positive Side: This bunny boy would love you in ways nobody else has shown you in a long time. At first it took sometime for you two to open up because of how shy, quiet and awkward you two can be when meeting each other, but he wanted you to feel comfortable by breaking his shell out as you were the one opening up to him first. Jungkook just follows your lead in the beginning when it comes to having conversations and even hanging out with him. After awhile, he just knew in his heart he wanted to be with you and worked for it until you accepted his confession. Jungkook loves exploring when it comes to trying new sweet spots with you. If you wanted a pound of chocolate chip edible cookie dough, he would get it for you. Also when your shopping with him to help him get his stage outfits for the next concert is a time where you both get silly chasing each other in and out the dressing room. Also you hyping each other up when getting each other’s hair done. “Wow look at my scrumptious blueberry. I love the blue hair on you.” He looks to the side blushing ruffling his hair. “I could say the same about you. They did amazing with your highlights.” Lastly, he would be there for you the whole time throughout your time finishing school. In a sense, he knows what it feels like to handle the pressure of graduating while practing as sn idol at a young age. He would give you words of encouragement and even right messages on sticky notes in your notebook every do it can boosts your energy.
Negative Side: Your both homey people which works out for the best, but out of the both of you, Jungkook is the more adventurous one. It’s expected that he’s more energetic because of his busy schedule and being an idol. Whenever he tries to ask you some days if you want to come along with him to go to the beach with him and the members or even try to tag you along with him to his next performance, your schedules wouldn’t line up or you were tired from working all day and just wanted to get some sleep. The both of you feel upset whenever you can’t see each other those days, but the you know that you have to finish your jobs for the day.
But...: Once a special occasion comes up such as a date, anniversary or a holiday comes up, you both plan months ahead to dedicate that time off. Once you get the approval to spend time with each other, it’s just makes your whole day. If it doesn’t ever work out, you guys still find time to FaceTime from your locations, you even decide to have fun with it. One time you had decided to do a FaceTime dinner date where you both dressed fancy and ordered the same food from different hotels. “The steak tastes so delicious babe. Thanks for recommending it to me.” “It’s no problem. I always know what you like. You look stunning in that dress baby.” The both of you blush at the amount of compliments you give each other and chat the whole night until you go to sleep.
From NCT 127, I ship you with...Haechan
Positive Side: Y’all would have a love-hate relationship. When y’all first meet, from the jump he would be dying to get to know you asking you all kinds of questions, but that’s because he wanted you to open out of your shell. Once y’all got to know each a lot better and become best friends, get ready for this man to tease you nonstop. He would jokingly try to push your bottons by making fun of how you eat soup, the way you walk in heels, literally anything and that’s when you both bicker back in forth coming for each other’s throats. After awhile, you both start developing feelings and it was awkward because the both of you were trying not to make it too obvious, but once you finally confess to each other it was a beautiful moment that you both can cherish. Not much changed in your relationship at that point it was more like best friends doing romantic things. He would drag you along everywhere whenever him and his 127 members travel around different states not giving a care in the world who was gossiping about the two of you. You also have chill dates where you’d sneak into each other’s rooms helping you study for school or watching movies all night long, but y’all would be distracted either way by play fighting or making out under the covers. Since both your moods change fast, it makes sense that this is your routine, but you both wouldn’t ever wanted things to change.
Negative Side: In the beginning, Haechan would sometimes go a little to far getting on your nerves bothering you constantly. One time you were tired from class and had to redo a paper from one of your English classes and all of a sudden Haechan was already on a ten dancing baby shark sexily in front of you. At first you were laughing and told him to stop, but then that turned to hours of silliness which led to missing your deadline to your paper. Even sometimes when he roasts you infront of the members, it turns into a big blowout with you both ignoring each other for days. “You know what Haechan you play too much and I’ve really had enough of your games. Your sleeping on the couch tonight.” “Fine by me, you snore too much anyway.” Snatches your pillow from you and slams the door. “I swear, he’s such a child..”
But...: The members couldn’t stand how gloomy you two were around each other and put you two in a private room to work out your differences. It was hard at first because your constant arguing. Once you both realize how hard you were on each other, you both made up and started to learn when not to cross the line with hurting each other’s feelings. He’s never going to stop messing with you, because that’s how he shows his form of love for you. What’s even better is that Haechan can be the best boyfriend at the same time being your number 1 supporter, teddy bear, best friend and lover.
Thank you to @567inpanem for coming up with the prompts…so excited.
The rules are simple chose a prompt write a story, draw a picture, make a meme, make a collage, or a music video, or even a soundtrack to the holidays. And submit it here starting on the Winter Solstice Saturday December 21, 2019 and extending to January 6, 2020 the End of the Holiday season…
Bake Off
*Peeta easily wins best baker title in his district with his special ginger bread recipe. But now he’s baking against the best of the districts! Will he be the Mellark that finally brings the grand title to 12? Intrigue! Deception! Sabotage! Bribery! It’s the grand quarter quell bake off has it all! Who will be crowned top baker and forever enjoy the special 25 yr title, fame glory and fortune! Your host Caesar Flickerman, with guest star taste testers including…Katniss desperate, agrees to work as secret agent, get close to Peeta, steal recipe and plans for a very special top secret gingerbread house, mess up his ingredients, make him oversleep after wild sex, anything necessary to keep him from beating the career district contestant! Will Peeta take home the big prize?
*Story of 1000 origami cranes in one year for luck or wish. Peeta makes 1000 (mockingjay) cookies?
D12 Fall Harvest
*Harvest Festival in D12 provides opportunity for all to not only celebrate bounty but also to give thanks, exchange gifts, participate in matching ceremony in anticipation of annual day of matrimony held on the winter solstice. Snapshot of Peeta and Katniss through the years?
*Harvest Festival is competition like Olympics or Highland games? Winners awarded cornucopia of food for the coming winter?
D12 Parcel Day
*The way those Parcel Days could have gone to forge relationship between Peeta and Katniss if it was something more, if for example they had to work together on things like what goes in them (maybe start off cold, then argue over differences, then get to know each other, grow together).
Thanks Giving
First Feast in 1621 lasted 3 days, 90 native Americans Wampanoag and 53 Pilgrims, celebrated successful harvest - feast, games, military exercises, diplomacy. Only 4 of 20 Mayflower women survived to the feast! Men helped cook for the party. No oven. 1863 Lincoln declared holiday. Make Katniss either survivor of voyage or Native?
Christmas & Hanukkah
See Prompt Nine.
New Years
Old college friends dispersed after graduation, but the group meets up every New Years for a night of drinking and catching up on the year and reminiscing and resolutions. At least for a while. But then they drift apart, skip years… until one (ok, I just realized this is getting closer to the movie big chill with every tweak). Or st. Elmo’s fire. But I like the concept of Katniss and Peeta having something in college and kept it secret but something happens and there’s secret is exposed….
Peeta and Katniss have crushes on the other one, attend a masquerade and neither one tells the other what there dressed as and they meet at the party and they do not realize they are attracted to their friend; maybe this can be an arranged marriage effort to match people attracted to each other by personality, not appearance, and the positive match confuses them? Or attendance is a psychology course requirement? (My intro psych had 1,000 students.)
Canon Based Non-Holiday Specific
something about coal…legend that La Befana witch flies down chimney, left gifts for good children, coal for naughty…Epiphany January 6 = end of Christmas season, day 3 wise men arrive manger BUT once Katniss is Victor, has $, sneaks buckets of coal for all the seam children to keep warm fire going, Peeta sneaks small raisin nut loaves? Or maybe this is parcel day beginning of legendary Mockingjay flies and delivers coal and sweet music. Maybe we can leave it like an open-ended thing parcel day in the and the districts how do you think each district celebrated partial day
 Prompt #1 A Dog’s New Year’s Eve Prompts -
A dog living on a college campus in Columbia observed that paying cashier = get a cookie. So, for the last 5 years, dog picks up large leaf, carries to cashier, gets cookie, too. What if cashier is lonely baker Peeta? Stray dog actually belongs to Katniss. Because dog always snarls at Haymitch, he calls it “Katniss.” Peeta overhears, assumes the dog is “Katniss.” Haymitch doesn’t correct him.
Peeta reads horoscope for 2019 Year of the Dog: “For single people, they have a large possibility to meet some excellent friends of opposite sex and develop a romantic relationship with one of them.”
Peeta needs to find a date for New Years Eve and is running out of time!  Hears Katniss over the radio reading the article he wrote “…Dog girls…need to pursue or express affection of boy dogs bravely. In addition, joining in more social activities on weekends is also an effective way to find true love…” Followed by a “BAHUMBUG Love is dead…dogs do not fall in love…hell like people dogs fall in lust’” Peeta wants to find this woman and set her straight…Love is not a Bahumbug.
What if dog getting too heavy like Columbian dog, vet accuses Katniss feeding dog junk, Katniss follows dog, catches baker feeding her now overweight dog, confronts him. But, Year of the Dog! So, HEA magic.
Prompt Idea #2 (Cultural Holiday)
*Pliny the Elder, a Roman who was one of the world’s first known naturalists, thought the Druids’ beliefs about mistletoe (that “mistletoe, taken in drink, will impart fecundity to all animals that are barren.” and hung it over their doors for luck) were silly, but the reputation stuck thanks in part to a Norse myth: definitely something with mistletoe and drinking its properties to become fertile
*Frigga, goddess of love and marriage, loved her son Baldur so much that she and Baldur’s wife teamed up to make all the world’s plants and animals to promise not to hurt him. Well, they got all the plants, except mistletoe. Loki, god of mischief, realized the mistake and made a spear out of mistletoe and killed Baldur. As Frigga cried over the loss of her son, her motherly tears turned into mistletoe berries. Those berries somehow brought Baldur back to life, so Frigga declared mistletoe to be a symbol of love. According to The Smithsonian magazine, “Mistletoe would come to hang over our doors as a reminder to never forget. We kiss beneath it to remember what Baldur’s wife and mother forgot.”
________________________________________
Steve’s POV
Today was a momentous occasion, Steve Rogers had a day-off. Something which Bucky always teased him about was his lack of free time. Being a working parent was something difficult to balance, especially as a single-parent, working both roles of mom and dad for Sarah. Both the disciplinarian and the fun parent, another set of dynamics to balance inside of himself. Adjusting his dressing-gown, he sat in the comfort of his couch, Sarah having not woken up yet, still tuckered out from spending yesterday out in the snow with Bucky at the park. The television softly playing reruns of Christmas films he hadn’t seen since he was growing up, a cup of coffee on the coffee-table and his phone nowhere in sight, when Steve was out of office, he tried to disengage himself as much as possible, wanting to take these days off to be with Sarah entirely.
Said phone currently on the kitchen counter alongside the remains of the doughnut which Steve had received from the baker Sarah couldn’t stop babbling about, constantly begging to go back and bake with the sweet lady who owned the bakery. Walking over to the kitchen counter, staring at the empty paper-bag which was imprinted with the logo and the address for said bakery on the somewhat crumpled paper-bag.
                                                  ‘Fairy-Cakes Bakery’
                                                   353 Columbus Ave
                                                  New York, NY 10024
With the bag in hand, Steve ran his finger across the logo on the bag and hummed, an idea coming forth as he heard the padding of little feet on the floorboards up above, the soft giggling gave away that the sound wasn’t a rat but instead…
A cheeky little monkey.
Sarah was giggling and made her way down the stairs, making her way down carefully before running up to Steve “DADDYYYY!” She raced forward and came face-first into Steve’s calves and knees “Hi Sunshine.” Picking her up and placing her upon his hip “Why are you still in your sleeping clothes, Daddy? Don’t you have work?” Tilting her head up at him, Steve chuckled “Sunshine, Daddy has a day-off today to spend with you.” He lay a peck to the crown of her head gently “REALLY?!” Sarah perked up immediately and wriggled in Steve’s arms excitedly “I get to spend a WHOLE day with you?!” The deeper meaning behind those words made Steve flinch slightly, it was true that he rarely got good time alone with his daughter, today was the start of a small change he’d hoped to start making. Steve nodded “Yes Sunshine and I think I have an idea of what we could do today.” Booping his daughter on the nose gently, with his finger, his daughter doing the head-tilt thing again “How about we head to the bakery that you keep talking about?”
Sarah was bubbling with excitement “WE’RE GOING TO SEE MISS (YN)?!” She wriggled “I have to get ready! So do you Daddy!?” She squealed and rushed towards the stairs, Steve chuckling and following after his enthusiastic daughter who scrambled to her room to get changed, so he decided to follow suit and clean himself up in preparation for heading out. Changing into a simple blue shirt and trousers, not as dressed up as he usually was due to his work attire being so formal. Swiping his hair back and taming his growing facial hair, the ‘dad beard’ as Bucky called it on many occasions, staring at his reflection in the mirror, it was a stark comparison to the man who started his career all those years ago, he’d aged in those years. The tiredness which lingered under his eyes, fatigue and droning nature of meetings and writing reports.
But Sarah brought out the energy and happier side to Steve which many people at work never saw. Never saw in the same capacity that Sarah and those closest to him saw. The lighter side of Steve which had been in hiding since Peggy. A side of him he missed dearly. Today, the weight of his work was off his shoulders and all that mattered today was his little girl who he heard running up to his door. Turning on his heel, he saw his beautiful little girl waiting at his door, her soft brown eyes full of wonder and excitement about what today might hold “I’m ready Daddy!” giggling as she dressed herself with ease, becoming better at doing the buttons on her cardigans day by day. Walking over and picking her up with ease, Steve happily carried his daughter back downstairs “Let's get a few things packed with us and we can get going.” He definitely still babied Sarah, but she was his only child, his little girl.
 So of course she was coddled and spoilt rotten by her father.
Steve grabbed her paw-patrol backpack for her and packed a few snacks and a juice-box inside she got hungry on the way into the city, he’d learned over the years of being a lone dad, he needed to pack for any eventuality, like the apocalypse itself would start any moment. Handing over the backpack to his daughter as well as her coat and boots, helping her tie the laces as she hadn’t gotten the knack of it.
“I wanna do my own laces but I can’t!” Sarah crossed her arms in a huff, her chubby cheeks looking even more round when she pouted her petted lips. Steve laughed and rubbed his daughter’s cheek gently “You’ll get the hang of it, Sunshine. How about I teach you a rhyme your nana taught me to help me tie my laces?” Sarah nodded excitedly and sat on her dad’s lap on the floor as he reached to guide her hands with the tricky shoelaces.
“Over, under, around and through,
Meet Mr. Bunny Rabbit, pull and through.”
Steve recited the rhyme for his daughter as he guided her little hands to tie the laces, taking his time to show her each step, finally tying the laces up and clapping his hands happily “There. And if you remember that rhyme and keep practicing, you’ll be a shoelace tying champ!” Blowing a raspberry into his daughter’s cheek as she squealed “DADDY! Your chin is scratchy!?” Pouting as Steve let out a bellowed chuckle “Oh is it now?” He did it again and rubbed his bearded chin into his daughter’s face, making her squeal even louder “DADDY!!” She wriggled in Steve’s lap as she was being tickled, a happy moment between the two. Steve laughed and looked down at his daughter “Okay I relent! Since we want to go visit your friend the baker don’t you?” He stopped tickling her as he saw her now burst into the widest of smiles “Miss (YN)?! We have to go now Daddy!” grabbing her father’s hand and trying to get him up onto his feet and drag him out the door, giving him on a few moments to grab his shoes, jacket and the 3 essentials.
Phone, keys and wallet.
Being rushed into the lift by little Sarah who was jumping up and down excitedly, the two descending in the lift from their 2 floor penthouse home, heading down to the private parking lot which contained his car and motorcycle, the latter something he hadn’t ridden on in many years, not since little Sarah’s birth. Walking up to his car, he helped Sarah into her car-seat, strapping her in before heading over to his side of the car, starting the ignition and strapping himself in. Driving out of the car park and using the GPS to direct him to the bakery.
Sarah giggled “Music, Daddy! Music-time!” She insisted, to which Steve gave in and flicked through the music stations before Sarah called out again “No Daddy! Special CD!” Steve smiled faintly, the CD she was mentioning was a CD of music from his childhood to music he and Peggy used to drive to, all the music was suitable for Sarah but some of the songs made him smile sadly as he drove, his eyes on the road as he listened solely to the sound of the GPS and Sarah’s singing, blocking out any of the songs which were too difficult to listen to. Songs which were too significant for him and the past, songs which hurt.
Soon enough after avoiding the traffic as much as he could, they turned into the street where the bakery was hidden from the main-street, immediately the atmosphere was different. The busyness of the city didn’t touch this nook, the shops were their own little community with the butchers, flower shop and of course, the bakery in questioned they’d travelled through the city to get to. Parking up beside the shop, he got out and stood on the pavement as he helped Sarah out of her car-seat and onto the ground beside him. Locking up the car and getting a ticket for parking before turning to look at the bakery which was decked out in Christmas decorations, something which made Steve grimaced slightly. Sarah was excitable and rushed up to the window “I see her! Come on Daddy!” Grabbing his hand and dragging him inside, the bell above the door ringing, notifying the owner of their arrival, whose back was turned.
“Miss (YN)!” Sarah squeaked which made the owner turn around finally, her hair dusted with flour leaving a white caste in her hair which was styled in an easy way but in a way which suited her features. Steve’s eyes locked onto her own, her cheeks tinted a faint pink “Hi there!” The woman smiled and pulled her eyes from Steve’s and looked down at Sarah “Hi again, I’m guessing this guy here is your dad huh?” Steve smiled “Steve,” he introduced himself as Sarah nodded and giggled, holding onto his hand happily “We came to see you! Daddy enjoyed his doughnut, his beard was covered in crumbs in the morning when I woke up!” Steve coughed and used his spare hand to cover his mouth and to hide his flushed cheeks “I see.” (YN) turned her eyes to look at Steve, a smile on her face “Your friend Bucky said you didn’t like sweet things so I’m glad to know you enjoyed it.” Pure joy in her eyes at the thought of people just enjoying her baking “Yes. I very much enjoyed it.” Steve ran his fingers through his beard, as if making sure there was no crumbs in it this time. (YN) smiled “So Sarah, how would you like to help me do some baking today? Only if your dad doesn’t mind of course!” Kneeling down to Sarah’s height and looking between Sarah and Steve. Sarah looked at her dad happily “Can I Daddy?! Can I Can I?!” Looking at Steve with puppy-dog eyes, and of course he gave in “Of Course that’d be alright Sunshine.”
(YN) rose to her feet and smiled, running a hand through her hair “Wanna go wash your hands and get an apron on?” Sarah nodded and followed (YN) to go wash her hand and gave her a small apron which had snowflakes on it, helping her tie the apron for her, muttering something under her breath “Over, under, around and through, Meet Mr. Bunny Rabbit, pull and through.” Sarah gasped “You know the Mr Bunny rabbit song!” turning to (YN) and rushing up to her dad “Daddy! Miss (YN) knows your Mr Bunny Rabbit song!” Steve looked up to (YN) and then to Sarah “She does eh?” (YN) smiled “I sometimes say the song when I’m tying up my apron, habits never die.” (YN)’s cheeks were flushed in embarrassment slightly as she rose back to her feet from when she was knelt down tying Sarah’s apron for her. Sarah tugged at the edge of your apron softly, pulling you from your rising embarrassment “Miss (YN), what are we going to bake?” excitement clearly spread across the little girl’s  face “How about cupcakes or even fairy cakes?” Sarah squealed and nodded excitedly, bouncing up and down, ready to start baking.
Steve took a seat at a table which made (YN) raise a brow “Sitting this out eh?” cheeks still tinged faintly pink as she looked at him, Sarah distracted for a moment by the Christmas ornaments. Steve looked at the baker with an amused expression “I’m not much of a baker to be honest.” He rested back in the seat “I can cook but baking isn’t my strong-suit.” Sarah joined in “Daddy can’t bake, last time we tried to make pancakes, they were like rocks!” sending a cheeky smile to her father, standing beside (YN) who let out an uncontrollable laugh/snort.
Steve watched her snort and laugh and how she quickly contained herself and covered her mouth and nose “I’m so sorry for laughing!” The remnants of the laughter in her throat, threatening to come out again if triggered. Steve smiled faintly “She gets the humor from her uncles, they’ve teased me since college about my baking skills.” It felt like a window was being formed, a peek through into Steve’s inner self that he was letting this woman see, he didn’t know why he felt so comforted in her presence and the setting of her little bakery.
YOUR POV
As you smiled at Steve for another moment “Well maybe I can teach you a fool-proof recipe that won’t end up in disaster,” you offered, not knowing where the confidence was coming from to say this to the highly attractive man that sat down in your bakery. You think its maybe your friend Dot’s energy and behaviours rubbing off on you, god you hoped this didn’t make you look like an idiot.
Steve cracked a smile again, chuckling which made your stomach twist in a nice way, as strange as that sounded in your head. Steve smiled “I don’t think any recipe is fool-proof with me around.” his brow raised, it was almost as if a younger version of the man before you was now sat there, a shroud of shadow left him and was letting him smile. With an equal playful tone, you retorted “I like a challenge,” crossing your arms across your apron with a smile across your face “But for now, how about we start on those cupcakes?” looking over to Sarah, who was looking at the desserts cabinet, she perked up and followed you as you led her around back to the kitchen “There’s a window in the kitchen, you can sit by the window to keep an eye on her?” you offered to which Steve nodded and followed after the two of you, this was when you were reminded how tall and broad he was, not that you hadn’t noticed it when you first saw him and Sarah enter the bakery.
Entering the kitchen, you tried to quell the growing redness in your cheeks, focusing on baking with Sarah, though you felt Steve’s eyes from the window, watching as the two of you worked together to make the batter for the cupcakes. Your holiday playlist softly playing as you baked, the festive songs playing through the portable speaker you always brought into work, letting the music fills you with spirit and cheer. Sarah was perched on a stool beside you so she was level with the table, able to stir the batter and help. Her little hands dusted with flour as she helped pour in the cups of flour, her little apron dusted with flour a little which reminded you of the snow which had started to fall across the city a few days ago. With the bowl of batter, you whisk the batter till fluffy, you showed Sarah each step and smiled, even gently booping her nose with your flour covered finger, smiling as she let out a happy squeal. Taking a glance at the window for a moment, you locked eyes with Steve. His blue eyes on yours, your palms getting sweaty for a second before you pulled away from his eyes and focusing on distributing the batter into some cases.
Two trays of cupcake cases were laid out in front of you and Sarah, giving her a spoon and showing her how much batter to use in each “Should reach up to there, so they can rise and not overflow!” Like a machine, you filled your tray quickly as you were so used to the action, deciding to help Sarah “Need a little help?” seeing as the little girl’s hand was shaking as she tried to concentrate so hard on filling each case perfectly, you reached around and guided her hand “There we go! You’re doing so well with filling these, giving my best friend a run for her money!” giggling with Sarah as you helped her complete the second tray of cupcakes. Carrying the trays over to the ovens, placing them in gently to bake “We have 15 minutes to wait! Time to clean up! Everyone’s least favourite part!” Sarah just seemed excited to be in the kitchen and up for doing anything and spending time with you which made time fly so fast.
TIME SKIP ~~
Sarah had fallen asleep on the table, her little hand still grasping the bag of green icing she was using to ice her cupcake masterpiece that she’d been working on before she passed out. You smiled, looking at Steve who was watching his daughter fondly, turning back to the cupcakes you grabbed a cake-box from up front and started to fill the box with the cupcakes you and Sarah made. Sprinkles covering the table from Sarah’s excitement with decorating, you’d clean it up after you got all this sorted. Gently, you picked up Sarah, removing the icing bag from her hands and putting that on the table before you carried her out of the kitchen and out to Steve who was at his table still, two empty coffee cups which you’d made for him when Sarah was helping you clean and decorate. Her little hands reached for something to hold instead of the icing bag and wrapped her arms around your neck and entangling her fingers in your hair which made you giggle quietly. Steve smiled as you approached, rising from his seat to walk with you to the front register.
“Definitely tuckered her little self out.” Steve gently brushed his daughter’s cheek, which was dusted with flour and icing sugar, making you smile as Steve now turned to you “Thank you for this, she’s been wanting to come back here since Sam and Bucky brought her.” You nodded “I love baking with little kids, they love getting creative in the kitchen.” Steve seemed focused on your face, you blinked “what?” tilting your head to the side for a moment as you looked at him, his hand reached up to brush your cheek gently “A bit of icing sugar I think.” your face a little pink “I-I see! Happens all the time,” feeling like a nervous teenager again. Steve nodded “I could only bet,” he reached over to gently pry Sarah off of you, she clung on like a little koala as you supported her from the back and bottom “Let me fetch the cupcakes and bag them up for you!” with your now free arms, you walked back to the kitchen to get the box as Steve soothed the stirring Sarah, who was nestling her nose in her father’s neck.
You watched the little scene from the kitchen-door, smiling as Dot’s mischievous voice entered your mind, nagging you to do something. To give him your number. You knew your friend would kill you if you didn’t so as you bagged up the baked treats for the two, you suppress the voice and kept bagging everything, ignoring the nagging voice. Walking back to the register, you handed the bag over “There’s her little cupcake masterpieces,” fingertips brushing as you handed the bag to his free hand as the other arm cradled the sleeping Sarah. Steve smiled, “You really made her day. She was so excited to come here and I now understand why.” Shyly, you rubbed your clammy hands on your apron out of nerves from the compliment, you could playfully banter with him but as soon as he gave you a compliment, the shyness bubbled over completely “Well she made my day I-I mean you both made my day!” slipping up on your words slightly which made Steve chuckle “Don’t worry, I understood what you meant.” Holding Sarah close as he chatted with you “Well I suppose we’ll definitely be seeing each other at the Christmas party?” You nodded “I guessed so, your colleagues well should I say friends called her their ‘taste-tester’ so I guessed that you worked with them.” Steve nodded “Well Sam’s my employee and friend, Buck’s just a very close friend of mine.”
‘Employee?’ That meant Steve wasn’t simply a worker for the Avengers Firm, he was a big player, a boss. You simply nodded at his words “Well they were both lovely when they were here, they’ve emailed and asked about my lunch delivery service already.” Steve chuckled “Lunch delivery? You do lunch deliveries?” He questioned and walked to the door, bag of cupcakes in hand “My friend Dot and I work on deliveries, brings in more business and very popular amongst offices.” You noted as Steve hummed “I’ll have to enquire about that myself, has peaked my interest.” You bit your lip to stop it from smiling to much at this “Oh really?” You thought this may be a proposition for him wanting to see you again but you wouldn’t keep your hopes up, though you didn’t see the wedding band on his left hand, you didn’t want to overstep or assume anything especially with little Sarah. Steve with your help, opened the front door and carried Sarah and the bag over to his car, you waved from the shop window, watching as Steve put Sarah in her car-seat.
You don’t know what overtook you in the next moments but by the time Steve had put Sarah in the car with the cupcakes and was getting into the driver’s seat, you’d run out with a small bag in hand and a napkin “WAIT!! STEVE!” You rushed over to his car as he switched on the ignition, walking over to the driver side window, seeing him roll the window down, you panted softly as you held the bag out to him for him to take through the window “I-I thought you might like this… since you don’t like sweet things that much.” Cheeks tinged pink from the rush but also shyness, Steve grinned “Thank you.” You nodded and backed up as Steve drove off, you gently waved from the sidewalk. His car disappearing with sight and hoping that your inner-Dot was right when you snuck him the napkin and sweet treat, the napkin having you number scrawled on it with a few words.
‘I promised to prove you wrong that you can make something which is fool-proof but you’ll need this’ (YN) - 202-555-0104 <3
As you stood pondering what you’d just done on the sidewalk, winter started to show its face once more, slowly snowflakes began to cover you as snow took over this side of the city, your hair now littered with snowflakes. Hearing you name, you saw it was Dot, who was stopping by to check in on you as she usually did during her lunch-break. You pulled away from the edge of the sidewalk and made your way over to the shop where your friend was stood, waiting for you.
The two of you heading back into the bakery, her asking immediately what you were doing standing out on the sidewalk in the softly falling snow. And you knew you couldn’t hide anything from your best-friend, so of course you spilt the beans
“So you just ran out with a cake and your number and stopped him from driving off!” Dot squealed as you nodded “Oh my god (YN)! This sounds like something out of a rom-com!” You flushed “But what if I totally misjudged it! What if he finds my number and is weirded out!” You were thinking irrationally but you were just nervous, sipping your hot chocolate which you’d made as you chatted with your best friend. Dot rolled her eyes “It’ll be okay (YN)! Stop being irrational!” She laughed “You’re a catch and if he doesn’t recognise that then jokes on him! But I have a good feeling he has.” Smiling into her mocha as you chatted about Steve. And as if almost teasing you, your phone went off, it was placed by the register.
Quickly, you scuttled to the register before Dot could, she was nagging you and wanted to see if it was Steve who’d texted you “Come on! You’re killing me! Is it Steve or not!” She was squealing and desperate to find out if Steve had messaged you. Taking a deep gulp, you checked your phone to see a message from an unknown number and checked your text messages, deep down hoping it was Steve.
Tumblr media
Your face went bright red as you looked at the message, it was Steve. You let out a squeal which you’d been holding in, feeling like a teenage girl all over again. The flurry of emotions taking over. Dot took that as a yes to it being Steve and scrambled over to see what he messaged, reading it “Holy Shit! He’s definitely into you!” Dot squealed with you, you just stared and bite your lip. Dot shook you “Message him back Woman!!!” laughing as you nodded “Okay Okay I will!” Pulling away from Dot as you began to message him back, putting him in your contacts.
Something was blossoming in this cold December afternoon in New York and you hoped deep down it was something that would grow, like snowdrops growing in the coldest of winter, during this most wonderful time of the year. And you hoped that Steve could feel it too.
Have you ever disliked someone just because a friend disliked them? Yessssss. That’s my job as a best friend hahahaha half kidding. No but seriously though, I have. I mean I’d still be objective and tell my friend if their enemy is making sense in some aspects, but at the end of the day I’ll give them the extra support by disliking that person anyway. Which would you rather own: A camera or a video camera. Why? Video camera, because I’ve always wanted to start vlogging and my phone’s camera is already quite decent, so I’m not really needing a camera right now. Have you ever won a lot of money in a slot machine? How much? Nah, I’ve never even played in a casino. I’ve been in one but I was only 18 then, so I couldn’t really do anything except to walk through the casino and stare at all the machines and booths that I couldn’t play at haha. Do you watch sports on TV even though you aren't a sporty person yourself? I will sometimes watch a tennis or MMA match if I catch them on, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t know who to root for either, or know who’s the better player; I just watch for the action. Do you eat / drink at your computer? Yes but I try to avoid it more these days because I hate greasing up my trackpad or leaving bits of food on my keyboard. If I really have to eat at my laptop I’ll put on a show or a video to watch so that I don’t have to actually be using my laptop.
How much do you overeat at special occasions? (Birthdays, Christmas, etc) I don’t think I have the capacity to overeat haha. My room for food is small so when I get full I simply stop eating, or I no longer get up to get a second serving. Generally I try to get a piece of every meal though, no matter how little; I always want to have a taste of everything so that I don’t miss out. The music you listen to: Is it mostly sung by female or male vocalists? I think it’s an equal amount but when it comes to frequency I think I’ve been listening to female vocalists more often – Beyoncé, Paramore, The Japanese House, Banks, etc. My playlists generally have both female and male artists though cause I also listen to Hozier, alt-J, Coldplay, Rhye, Joji, and other male dudes. Do you think it's important to enjoy your job or do you just work for money? As much as possible people should always aim to end up somewhere where they love what they do for a living, but given that I’m quite materialistic but mostly grew up in a household with a mom who was very frugal and often reiterated the joys of a simple life (aka a life I hated lmao), I think I’d have no problem having a job that pays handsomely but wasn’t necessarily viewed as fun. I wanna be able to spoil and reward myself after all the work I do. Do you require glasses / contacts to see properly? If so, which do you use? Yeah, I have glasses. Tell me an embarrassing thing that happened to you recently: I shared a serious-toned Facebook post earlier tonight and Gabie’s dad gave it a like. I’ve mostly forgotten he was my Facebook friend and so I started feeling embarrassed because normally I would shitpost and share stupid memes and if he liked my post, it must mean he sees everything I share jkfhjkfhjkf. When you hear your voice back on a recording, do you think it sounds awful? No. I don’t usually cringe when I hear it; I think it sounds okay. When was the last time you got the hiccups? Aaaaaaaaages ago. I can’t even tell you when. If you had to, which record would you go into Guinness World Records for? I saw a video on Facebook of this woman getting into Guinness for finishing the most jars of mayonnaise in a certain amount of time (I wanna say 5 minutes?) and I was so thrilled to see such a record cause I can honestly see myself breaking it HAHAHAHAHA mayonnaise is <3 The last sweet thing you ate: What was it? A chocolate chip cookie, except we don’t have chocolate chips so my dad had to improvise and chopped up Flat Tops instead. If you had to change your name, what would you change it to? I’d toy with my second name and probably go with Belle or Bella. Do you have a middle name? Do you find it embarrassing? Yeah I think all Filipinos come with a legal second name. I don’t find mine embarrassing it all; it’s a source of great pride since I have a lot of relatives etched in Philippine history with that name. I don’t ever want to lose it and I’ll probably continue to keep it even after I’m married. What would you choose to be famous for? It’d be nice to be known for a blog. If I had the time, resources, and tbh the connections it would be amazing to write about anything under the sun for an audience. What is your current occupation? Do you enjoy it? I don’t have any at the moment, but I’m about to start looking for one. Do / Did you enjoy school? Why (not)? There are some parts I enjoy/ed (the friends I made for high school, the overwhelming independence I gained in college) and some parts I hate/d (some classes I was forced to take in high school, my inability to adjust during my first year of college). I don’t regret either periods though, and I can never say I completely hated them. If you have a webcam, are you ever paranoid people can see you? Yes hahaha. I never got around to buying a webcam protector either. Do you find it difficult to sleep at night? Any reason(s) why? Only when there’s something unresolved, like a deadline that’s bugging me or if Gab and I have been arguing. Otherwise I’m knocked out in like 10 minutes. If you had to go on a game show, which would you choose? Family Feud or Jeopardy. What about if you had to go on a reality show? Which would you choose then? QUEER EYE. Talk about wholesome. Tell me about your favourite TV show: Blue meth, New Mexico, lots of chemistry, objectively one of the greatest pieces of television ever. Have you ever wished you were born the opposite gender? Why? I probably wished this a few times when I was a pre-teen and liking girly things was still seen as lame. How the hell did we not question mindsets like that before, damn. If you had dental braces, which colour would you make them? I did have braces and I always picked a different color for every trip to the dentist, so it’s very possible I had tried out the entire rainbow. Does any part of your body hurt right now? Where and why? My back hurts rn, understandably, because my posture is shitty. Why were you last irritated? Slow internet. What time did you get up this morning? I think that was already 11 in the morning. The last city you were in: Where was it and do you like it there? Other than my own it was in Pasig. It’s okay but I definitely prefer other cities. It’s a little too crowded and congested for me and also too expensive to stay at, eugh. If I had the choice I’d rather hang in Makati or QC. Do you like the countryside? They’re nice spots for a short vacation, but I wouldn’t want to live there. I’ve grown used to the hustle and bustle of cities. If you see someone yawn, do you often yawn as well? Sure. Recommend me a good movie: Good Will Hunting, Requiem for a Dream (but sad), Roman Holiday, Gone with the Wind, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Do you think you'd make a good model? Would you ever want to be one? I don’t work out or do anything to maintain a certain figure so I don’t have the the ideal body for modeling; if anything the only factor I have going for me is the fact that I’m quite skinny. I did want to be a model when I was a teenager though; that was around the time VS Angels were extremely popular, so I’m not surprised I used to want to be like them. How often do you change your hairstyle? What does it look like now? I only change it up once a year. Right now I have a bit of a bob with bangs. Truth or Dare? Truth. I never have a problem saying the truth lmao. Do you have a favourite day of the week? Which is it? This semester it was Tuesday, because it had my lightest schedule. Nowadays every week is just a blur to me and I stopped having a favorite day.
Second thoughts: The Fear of The Future and The Fear of Rejection
This pandemic has not been kind to me. Not because my life at home sucks, but because I've had enough free time to put things into perspective, work on my mental health, and make me consider things I had not considered up until now.
So, this is me putting into words all the troubling thoughts that had been circling inside my head since this whole lockdown began in March.
Having too much time has helped me see things I didn't
Things I knew from way back suddenly become relevant again
Getting used to a slow paced life and running all the time
The beginning of my second thoughts
“If I could turn back time before I decided to go into vet school, I'd give it a more thorough thought before choosing”
The flip of a coin and its repercussions
Will this matter in two weeks? Most likely.
The spiral leading to fear.
Having too much time helped me see thighs I didn’t.
Normally, the summer break and the Christmas holidays tend to be the right length. It's time enough for me to rest and to mentally prepare for what's to come. And not long enough for me to actually get bored.
It has been five months now. Time enough for me to run out of things to do, and I’m forced to slow down, and realize there isn’t any rush to do any of the things I have to do. It’s not like things are going somewhere else. Neither am I. Time slowed down.
Just like everyone else, I got enough time to explore the halls inside my head. The way they stretch and turn, covered in dust, and some of them haven’t seen the light in years. Dusting away the dirt some thoughts and memories have accumulated over the time, I’ve become aware of who I am and where I come from.
I’ve become aware. I’ve been staring in front of me, walking in a straight line, for so long, I’ve forgotten to look down at the map, or to even notice my surroundings. I've forgotten to see the whole picture up until now.
Things I knew from way back suddenly become relevant again
When I first started vet school, we were told about the misconceptions of what being a veterinarian really is. Being a career focused on medicine and healthcare, you cannot allow yourself to stop reading, to stop learning, to stop asking questions. Otherwise you’re left behind and become obsolete. Science keeps moving forward every day, and you have to constantly keep up with the pace. Always in a rush. Only those hungry for knowledge, always willing to learn will strive.
“That's fine by me,” I said back then.
Being such a demanding career, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise the statistics. That same day, we were taught about the suicide rates in veterinarians. One in ten commits suicide. A lot of this comes hand in hand with the fact that student debts are monstrous in the States. Something that, thankfully, isn’t that big of a problem down here. Student loans here aren’t as big. However, it’s still stressing to be a vet tech.
The statistics didn’t scare me as much back then. Nowadays, those numbers seem more threatening.
Getting used to a slow paced life and running all the time
Something I learned over the years is that wounds take time to heal. And there’s nothing to speed up that process. You have to clean the wound, and keep proper rest, avoid moving and making physical effort. If you forget to take care of the wound, stop cleaning it, it’ll get worse, hurt more and become infected. Mental health works the same way. You have to take it slow while you’re healing, you have to take care of it every day, and by ignoring it, it’ll only get worse.
Something I’m thankful for, is the sudden slowing down of life. We were constantly moving, always with something to do, a deadline to meet, places to go. We never really stopped, did we?
Not even when we are supposed to slow down we really slowed down. “Once we arrive at the hotel, let’s do this, and then this. Then let's go here, and by night lets go to this club”
However, the pandemic forced us to stay indoors, with nothing to do, nowhere to go, and we’re back at worrying about our most basic needs. When to eat, when to sleep, everything else is extra. The whole world slowed down for the first time in decades, if not, centuries.
This slowing down has allowed me to work in my mental health like I should have done a long time ago. My mental health has become my priority in the last months, as I’m constantly reading, journaling, meditating. Most of what I do when I don’t go to work is based on what feels best and what keeps my mind at ease.
I work at a vet clinic. I’m not formally working there, but I’m not going to stop and discuss the circumstances, let's just say I work there, as a student, I don't get paid, but I do get to learn first hand experience, something invaluable for someone in my position, since apparently everyone expects you to have plenty of experience by the time you graduate college and start applying for jobs.
I only go to the vet clinic once a week, sometimes two. Because of the pandemic and safety measures, we try to keep the number of people in there to the minimum, but without being deficient.
Something I've noticed is the more hands we have at our disposition, the more we’ll keep saturating ourselves and overworking.
Being a veterinarian is stressful and if you're doing your job right, you're going to be busy the whole time. You see, vet techs don't overwork and saturate themselves because they’re workaholics. The love for animals, and the desire to help as many animals as posible is the reason why we’re always running inside the clinic, from one place to the other, in a rush, never really slowing down. You sacrifice your lunch time to keep working, you stay overtime, leave late, sometimes you don’t even leave and you stay on duty, sometimes you leave but return an hour later because of an emergency, you even put up with owners’ attitude and/or insults and complaints. And even when you finally make it to your house, you arrive home and read about several topics, reading articles, studying, consulting colleagues about your questions and asking for suggestions and opinions. You never truly stop.
And once you see how it is from the inside, those suicide rates start making sense.
The beginning of my second thoughts
With a lot of free time at my disposal, I did what everyone else did. I started focusing on my hobbies. I began writing more than before, I began drawing a lot more than before. I even grabbed my old dusty drawing tablet and decided to give digital drawing another chance.
I can’t even remember how many times I tried to properly learn how to draw digitally. But for whatever reason I always ended up by giving up and staying comfortable in tradicional drawing. You see, drawing on paper and on a tablet are two very different things. Let alone coloring.
This time, however, I was successful. I bought a new drawing tablet and became good friends with it soon after.
My creative mind was fascinated. The characters I was constantly creating with lives and thoughts of their own could only be seen by others through my words. However, my new found talent allowed me to project my characters, and allow other people see exactly what I see.
It was during this time that one of my closest friends asked me about it. He complimented me on my drawing skills, very much to my distorted perception of my own talents. The conversation soon grew deep and enlightening and touching. He asked me what I thought of giving animation a chance. And I'd be lying if I said I hadn’t considered it before. Time flows at an unreasonable fast speed once I begin drawing, and I easily forget about everything else when I’m at it. And since I like to write too, giving animation a chance would only seem right.
“I'm scared” I told him. To which he asked me what was I afraid of. And I answered: “I’m afraid I’ll end up liking animation more than vet medicine”. A series of questions followed after, and so, a door in my mind opened, and I haven’t been able to close it.
In the end, it turned out I was afraid of disappointment.
I’m lucky and immensely grateful to be surrounded by people who have faith in me, who constantly cheer me to keep going. Many people expect me to and wish that I come through, following the path I’d laid out for me. Friends, family, even the doctors I work with. Everyone is expecting great things from me. It's so satisfying and encouraging to see, but at the same time, it puts a weight on my shoulders, and makes me set higher standards than I would if I didn’t receive this much support.
Now, imagine letting all those people down.
You see, I’ve had a pretty constant life plan laid out before my eyes. Graduate in a year, work for a little while, save money, move to another city and do a postgrad. Afterwards, move yet to another city, and specialize in cardiology. A few dates and places had been considered over these last years, but my ultimate goal has stayed the same: become a cardiologist. The heart is my favourite organ, and it has been since I first learned about its anatomy and physiology in high school. Cardiology is what I want, or what I think I want. Those closest to me know this. And everyone who does, supports my decision and is cheering on me. It’s a great feeling, really.
“If I could turn back time before I decided to go into vet school, I'd give it a more thorough thought before choosing”
I told that pretty recently to a friend.
Back in high school, one step away from deciding what is it that I want to do, I was torn between studying biology or vet medicine. In the end, I decided to let fate decide for me. Whichever career released their application form first. And we know which one of the two was the first one to do so.
I don’t regret choosing from a flip of a coin. I’ve enjoyed vet school so much, and I genuinely believe it has been worth every bit of it. I don't regret, in the slightest, getting into Vet School, however, if I could talk to high school me, I’d tell her to give it a more thorough thought before choosing. Now that I’ve seen it from the inside, I can tell it’s not an easy decision to make.
The flip of a coin and its repercussions
Anyone who knows me can tell how wildly passionate I’m about vet medicine. How I’m always eager to learn, and I’m constantly reading about things. I love sharing these things with other people as well. Clearly, I don’t regret getting into vet school.
However, how much am I willing to put up with everything that implies being a vet? What it really takes?
This quarantine, my mental health has become my priority, considering how easy it is for me to trip and fall into a spiral. I have to be constantly taking care of it. So, at what point does prioritizing my mental health meet prioritizing my job?
In April I talked with a friend about what it was that I really wanted. And I began questioning myself, as well as my dreams. What I thought was my ultimate goal began getting blurry.
In June, I decided to take a small break from my everyday life, and went to the woods. And as much as I love escaping to the woods for a little while and breathe some fresh air, this time, I didn’t feel like I got any rest at all. As I was haunted by exactly the one thing I was trying to run away from.
Being in a constant “veterinarian mode” is tiresome. Always thinking of problems, solutions, questions, always being asked about these things, even when you’re not at work and are trying to rest. Even when I had planned to go into the forest to forget about my “vet tech life” for a little while, the vet tech life found me and haunted me. I didn’t get any rest at all.
At what point this mentality becomes detrimental to my own health? Anyone who’s keeping up with it all has my absolute respect. Anyone in the health care area, not just veterinarians.
I am starting to question whether I'll be able to keep up with this rhythm for the rest of my life. It's too fast. And now that I've gotten a taste of a slower paced life, I'm not sure I want to go back to the race.
You see, many people no longer see a person when they look at me. They see my profession. And it’s not bad, to some degree I  like it, being called a doctor feels nice.
But sometimes I wish people forgot about my profession and asked me about what is it that I like, my hobbies, what books I've read. Instead of always asking me stuff about my job and questions they have about pets and animals in general. If I meet someone, we'll be talking of random things, but as soon as I mention I'm a vet tech, the conversation becomes focused on my career. I’m a human being first, you know?
Will this matter in two weeks? Most likely.
Whenever I feel like my anxiety is spiraling out of control, I manage to get a hold of it, and of the situation by asking myself: will this matter in two weeks? For the most part, the answer is no. And it's in that moment that I realize how many of the things that overwhelm me are for the most part, momentarily.
However, this train of thought has been circling inside my head ever since April. Whenever I feel the anxiety closing in around me, and I ask myself if this will matter in two weeks, I answer myself no. Only to be proven wrong. This continues to matter, it has been for the last months.
And the worst of it all, the more I think about it, the more it scares me, and every time I do, the anxiety drowns me at a faster speed.
Will this matter in two weeks? Most likely.
The spiral leading to fear.
I’ve come such a long way. And there’s still a long way ahead of me. However, I’ve been staring straight in front of me for so long, I’ve forgotten to look at the map or my surroundings. And now that I’ve done so, I realise the beautiful landscape that surrounds me. Countless paths stretching before my eyes, all twisting and taking different turns, and I wish to explore them all.
However, everyone talks of what I’ll find at the end of the path I chose to walk. This path will continue to get harder and harder, with countless obstacles in the future. But then again, all paths do. How much am I willing to sacrifice? How much weight am I willing to carry on my shoulders? It scares me.
By this point, I’m scared to ask if I made the right choice. What if I didn’t? Even asking myself that makes my eyes teary and makes a lump grow in my throat.
I guess you can say the answer is pretty obvious by now. But it is not.
I’ll put it in simple words: I wish to be a vet tech, but without having to be one 24/7, but that's not how it works.
It’s easy to take the leap when you’ve got nothing to lose. But the more there is at stake, the bigger the jump. The tower becomes taller, outgrowing your courage. And the more I approach the edge, the more scared I feel.
I am lost. And I am scared. But I am not scared because I’m lost. I guess being lost isn’t as bad, since, in order to find new places, one must get lost first. I’m scared  because of everything I’ve said before. Despite life slowing down, and despite this year feeling so unbearably slow, many things have changed, so fast. I never thought I’d find myself questioning my future in just the span of a few months. I hadn't thought this much about my future since high school, when I had to choose a university and a career.
I'm still lost though, and out of balance. However, only time and working on myself will help.
I’ve still got a year left of school before graduating, and ultimately deciding what is it what I’m gonna do. And I’m willing to give this last year the benefit of the doubt, since so much has happened in just a few months, who knows what’s gonna happen the following year starting on monday.
I wish for the following year to be gentle with  me. However, the best lessons come from the roughest times.
In the meantime, I'll watching life unfold before me, and see how things fall into place. I'll continue to feel scared about the uncertain future hoping for the best.
She always saved up her vacation time to take off from Thanksgiving through the New Year. Everyone who did not know her well always asked what kind of fun holiday plans she had. Her answer was always the same.
“No plans. I don’t do holidays. Just five weeks off to stay home and sleep through until the New Year.” The look on people’s faces always made her chuckle. Pure and utter disbelief that someone would hate the holidays.
(Y/N) changed into her favorite pajama pants that were stolen from one of her best friends and her favorite band t-shirt. Curling up on her couch with the Chinese takeout she picked up on her way home and the bottle of whiskey, she hit play on the horror movie cued up on her Hulu account.
She smiled widely seeing her best friend on the screen. (Y/N) and Jensen Ackles have been friends since they were in grade school back in Dallas. She had been by his side throughout his entire career and watched with pride as he turned into a celebrity. Other than Dean Winchester on his hit show Supernatural, her favorite character was Tom Hanniger from the movie My Bloody Valentine.
Seeing him on the screen made her heart ache. His gorgeous olive eyes and charming smile never ceased to render her weak in the knees. What started as a school girl crush had turned into her falling head over heels for him. Never wanting to risk their friendship she kept her feelings bottled up deep within her. Being the support pal through every rocky relationship he had.
Seeing the credits rolling on her TV she shut everything off and snuggled onto her couch letting the sounds of the blistering wind outside lull her to sleep. She dreamed of the life she desperately desired with the man who held her heart. Being in his strong arms and warming her cold heart to loving the idea of spending the holidays with him. When she woke up, tears streamed down her face as her constant companion loneliness smothered her.
Last night I took a walk in the snow Couples holding hands places to go Seems like everyone but me is in love
The closer to Christmas it was getting the worst (Y/N)’s mood was becoming. It was now snowing which added to her aversion of the holidays. A seemingly quick walk to get dinner had her trapped in a god-awful snow globe of happy couples and holiday cheer. She made way to her lobby door where a black SUV was sitting outside of it. Not thinking twice, she hurriedly went inside and up to her apartment.
Turning the corner to her apartment, she stopped suddenly seeing someone standing outside her door. A wide smile spreading across her face replacing the scowl that had been there for the last couple of weeks.
“Jensen?” she asked as he turned around throwing his arms up in the air.
“About time, pretty girl! My god I thought maybe you were dead in there and I was about to kick the damn door down.” He said pulling her into a hug.
She unlocked the door setting her food down as Jensen walked in behind her, “What are you doing here?” She asked.
Jensen kicked off his boots and shrugged off his coat leaving him in a flannel with a t-shit underneath. She chuckled at him as she hung up their coats. “What are you chuckling at?”
“You, Dean. Did you fly here straight from set?” she said as he looked down at what he was wearing. With a slight change in tone and gruff expression he could easily be Dean Winchester, his character from his hit show.
Jensen rolled his eyes at her and started looking through her bag containing her dinner. “No, these are actually my clothes thank you very much. Except for the boots which are Dean’s, but I borrowed them to come out to the frozen tundra to see you. He doesn’t mind.”
“Jay, as much as I love seeing you shouldn’t you be on your way to Austin for Christmas? I’m sure everyone is going to miss you and your family hardly sees you.” She said grabbing her food out of his grasp.
“Well, that is part of the reason why I am here. I have a plane ticket for myself and for you to spend Christmas and New Years in Austin with the family. My mom and Kenzie have been talking about seeing you for weeks along with Jared, Gen and the boys being there. Stop making that face at me, (Y/N/N).” He said sighing.
(Y/N) was making a horrified expression as panic flooded her chest. The whole reason she took these weeks off were to be secluded and away from everyone possible. She did not always hate the holidays but for the last few years she vowed not to celebrate anything.
“Jensen, you know why I hate the holidays. You know what happened in every gory detail. I-I can’t fake happy around everyone for that long.” Her voice cracked from the overwhelming panic trying to spew out from her lips.
He stood in front of her placing his arms around her tightly. Kissing the top of her head he said, “You don’t have too. You can always go upstairs to my room when it becomes too much. I know I’m asking a lot of you, but I really want to have Christmas with everyone I love there. It won’t be right without you, (Y/N).”
Jensen’s hand rubbed her back as her panic and desire to make him happy fought inside her. She looked up at him sighing, “Okay Jay, I’ll go to Austin.” The breathtaking smile on his face was worth the anxiety threatening to paralyze her.
I want someone to love me And someone to hold Maybe, maybe (maybe maybe) He'll be all my own in a big red bow Santa can you hear me?
They stayed a few days at (Y/N)’s where they hung out and watched movies like the old days. They were flying into Austin on December 23rd the day before everyone was to arrive at Jensen’s house. Being back in Austin was disorienting for (Y/N). She had not been back at all in three years when life took a turn for the unexpected.
The moment she walked into Jensen’s house she looked around in horror, “Jay it looks like Christmas threw up on everything in your house.”
When she saw Jensen’s surprised reaction she knew something was not going according to his plan. That is when his mom and sister walked in from his kitchen. “Mom, Kenzie what are you two doing here a day early?”
The ladies who (Y/N) consider family hugged him quickly and then made a beeline to her. “(Y/N)! It’s been too long!” Kenzie said hugging her.
“Hey Kenzie, I missed you too.” She said trying to push down the urge to run upstairs and hide.
(Y/N) walked over to Mrs. Ackles who engulfed her into the biggest momma hug anyone could get. It took everything within her to keep the tears from falling down her face that welled up beneath her eyelids.
“Let me look at you,” Mrs. Ackles said clicking her tongue not approvingly, “Far too skinny (Y/N). That’s alright we will get you fatten up before you leave here.”
(Y/N) laughed softly looking over to Jensen with pleading eyes. “(Y/N), why don’t you go upstairs and get settled in while Mom and Kenzie help me with dinner.”
She nodded gratefully as the ladies followed Jensen into the kitchen. (Y/N) walked up the stairs to the second floor with all the bedrooms. She instinctively went to Jensen’s room, but then second guessed herself opting to go to the spare bedroom next to his. When he had bought his house, (Y/N) had helped him decorate it and the spare bedroom was specifically decorated for her though she had never slept in it.
After unpacking her bag, she sat on the bay window ledge looking out onto the lake behind Jensen’s house. It was much warm here than her city and people were out enjoying their boats on the lake. She watched all the families and happy couples with envy leaning her head against the window. There was a soft knock and then Jensen walked in.
“Mom and Kenzie are leaving now. I told them you would see them tomorrow and that you were tired on the way home from the flight.” Jensen explained as a weight felt like it was lifted from her chest.
She noticed he was nervously shuffling from one foot to the other, “What is it?” she asked getting up and walking towards him.
“It’s nothing.” He mumbled running his hand through his hair another tell that he had something to say but did not know if he should.
“Spill it, Ackles.” She said playfully pushing his shoulder.
He bit his lip looking down at her causing her breath to hitch in throat. “I was wondering why you decided to stay in the guest room? Normally… you stay in my room with me.”
(Y/N) reached out touching his arm lightly, “I didn’t want to assume anything. I mean you have your own life and the possibility of someone being with you is always there. I didn’t want to step on any toes or cause any drama.”
His olive eyes were filled with confusion and then realization hit him, “Do you really think I wouldn’t tell you if I had someone staying with me?”
“I don’t know, Jay. A lot has changed and again I didn’t want to assume anything. Better safe than sorry.” (Y/N) felt as if her heart was weighted down with the thought of Jensen having someone.
He shook his head and grabbed her bag placing her clothes back into it, “First, things haven’t changed that much that I wouldn’t let you know if I was with someone,” once all her things were back in her bag he turned towards the door. “Second, you get first dibs because you mean more to me than anything or anyone.”
(Y/N) followed Jensen into his bedroom that had not change at all in the three years she had been gone. Seeing the familiar room brought her a great deal of comfort and she watched from the bed as Jensen unpacked her things into two empty drawers of his dresser.
“Thanks Jay,” She whispered as he turned around smirking.
“You’re welcome and by the way, I’m not seeing anyone not since my last girlfriend that you know all about.” (Y/N) could not help the small smile on her lips as she watched him leave his room.
The next morning, she woke up alone in bed hearing a bunch of commotion downstairs. Looking over at her phone she saw it was nearly eleven in the morning. She quickly got up, showered and dressed trying to keep her anxiety from consuming her. She stood at the top of the stairs taking deep breaths before nervously walking down them.
We'll be all alone under the mistletoe Santa can you hear me? I have been so good this year And all I want is one thing Tell me my true love is here He's all I want just for me Underneath my Christmas tree I’ll be waiting here Santa that's my only wish this year
“Good morning sleepy head.” Kenzie said from her spot on her husband’s lap.
(Y/N) put on her best smile, “I’m not like your brother who is used to traveling between time zones. Plus, I need all the beauty sleep I can get.”
Kenzie scoffed as she got up going over to her and hooking their arms together, “Come on, the women folk are hanging in the kitchen while the men do manly things.” (Y/N) chuckled waving goodbye to Kenzie’s husband.
When they walked in Mrs. Ackles was shooing out Jensen and Mr. Ackles, “Out of my kitchen. No boys until the food is ready.”
“Really this is my kitchen mom…” Jensen started to say until she glared at him and he shut his mouth. He turned seeing her standing with Kenzie and smiled brightly to her.
(Y/N) laughed as he walked up to her, “Nice bow. Are you sleeping under the tree tonight?” she asked messing with the red bow on top of his head.
“This was my payment for Kenzie wrapping my gifts for the tree. If you take any pictures they best not leak to the press or the fans will have a field day with this.” Jensen said as (Y/N) laughed.
“Oh, the fanfiction that could be written from it!” She said as he groaned.
(Y/N) hugged Mr. Ackles as he pushed Jensen out of the kitchen, “Nice to see you again, kiddo.” He said quietly as she held onto him a little tighter.
The Ackles family had always been more of her family than her own. They knew she had a rough home life and she was always welcomed whenever she needed to get away. They had helped her through college while Jensen moved out to Los Angeles to begin his acting career. Three years ago, when she was preparing for the biggest moment of her life they had all been there when it fell apart.
Soon Gen was had joined them in the kitchen as Jared and their sons were outside with the rest of the guys. With Gen coming in it gave (Y/N) the chance to sneak out the back door to the backyard and have a moment to herself. Spending time with the Ackles women had been great and reminded her of why she loved them so much.
(Y/N) was sitting on the retaining wall watching Jensen, Jared, Thomas and Shep playing their version of football. Jensen was always great with kids and it was a shame that he had not found someone to settle down with to have his own. The thought of him being a father pulled the strings attached to the feelings she had buried deep within her.
“(Y/N/N)!” Thomas yelled out running towards her. She jumped down off the wall and picked him up swinging him around.
“Tom-Tom! I’ve missed you buddy.” She said as he held onto her tightly. Shep had just been born when she left Austin and he walked beside Jared shyly looking at her.
Jared hugged her with one arm while holding Shep in the other, “Hey (Y/N), good to see you again.”
“It’s great to see you as well, Jared. Hi Shep,” She said waving slowly as he buried his head into Jared’s neck.
She set Thomas down who kept a hold of her hand as Jared chuckled, “We’re going through a shy phase. Once he gets to know you though, he’ll never leave you alone.”
She laughed looking over to Jensen who was staring at her strangely. “You okay over there, Jay?” she asked as he shook his head slightly.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine. Come on, let’s go inside and see if we are eating any time soon.” He said placing his arm around (Y/N)’s shoulders as Thomas kept a hold of her hand walking in.
Dinner had gone better than she could have expected, and she had a feeling it was because of the spiked soda Jensen was feeding her to help with the nerves. After dinner they all piled into his living room to watch It’s A Wonderful Life together. Thomas was snuggled between her and Jensen on the love seat where he fell asleep within minutes of the movie starting.
By the end of the night, everyone had said their goodbyes and made plans to meet up for New Year’s Eve at the bar Jared owned. Before Kenzie and her parents left she smiled widely at (Y/N) and Jensen looking above their heads.
“Really Kenzie?” Jensen said rolling his eyes as (Y/N) saw the mistletoe attached to the beam about their heads.
Kenzie nodded, “Oh going on you two. It’s not like we all don’t know how you two have been pining for one another all these years.”
(Y/N)’s eyes went wide as Jensen’s face burned red. The panic that had not been there all night hit her harder than ever before. It was different this time though, there was also hope attached to it and that was something that scared her even more. Her body began to tremble, and she felt Jensen tighten his arm around her.
“Goodnight Kenzie,” He said firmly as their parents pulled her along while she pouted slightly.
Once the door was shut, (Y/N) wiggled out of his grasp feeling as though the room was closing in on her. Without a single word she turned towards the back door quickly going out into the backyard. She took a few deep breaths trying to calm herself down, but all her emotions were bubbling up too fast for her to control.
As soon as the first tear fell the dam broke free unleashing three years’ worth of tears. Jensen was by her side in a flash, “(Y/N) it’s okay. It’s okay, Kenzie was just trying to get a rise out of me.”
His panic voice may have caught her attention, but it was what he said that had her chest tightening. “W-What do you mean?” she asked sniffling.
He looked down at his feet, his hand running over the back of his neck. “Apparently, my feelings for you have been painfully obvious to my family since we were kids. However, for me, it wasn’t until you were supposed to get married that I realized that you were the only woman I ever wanted to be with.”
His eyes locked with hers and she felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. They stared at each other for what seemed like eternity until he broke the silence, “Say something, (Y/N).”
“I… I can’t…” she said running back inside his house and up the stairs to the spare bedroom. She shut the door and leaned up against it fresh tears falling down her face.
Tell me my true love is here He's all I want just for me Underneath my Christmas tree I’ll be waiting here Santa that's my only wish this year
The next morning, (Y/N) woke up to the smell of bacon and coffee. She looked around seeing she was in Jensen’s room snuggled up with his pillow. The last thing she remembered was crying herself to sleep in the spare bedroom. When she heard the door open she looked up seeing Jensen with a breakfast tray in his hands complete with red bow on it.
“Morning,” He said softly as he set the tray down, “I figured you could have breakfast in bed and relax this morning.”
He stood up walking towards the door then stopped not turning around, “If you want to leave early after last night I completely understand. Your ticket home is open ended so you can choose whenever you would like to leave.”
The sadness in his voice broke her heart and in all the confusion of what had happened she did not take into consideration how he must have felt after she ran off. “Wait.” She called out as he turned around his eyes still downcast.
“Have breakfast with me.” She said scooting over carefully to make room for him on the bed.
He approached the bed hesitantly and sat down making sure there was plenty of room between them. Silently they ate together an awkward tension building between them that had never been there before. She could see the internal dialogue going on within Jensen and how he was blaming himself for it.
(Y/N) got up setting the tray on his dresser and then climbed back into bed wrapping her arms around his waist feeling his body tense up. After she did not let go, he finally wrapped his arms around her and laid back on the mattress with her. So many times, they had laid in bed like this, but it suddenly felt completely different and what scared her the most was how much she loved it.
“I’m scared.” She whispered her ear pressed to his chest listening to his rapid heartbeat.
He took a deep breath, “Of what?” he asked.
She leaned up on her elbow looking up to him, “I’m scared that you actually have feelings for me. I’m scared of losing your friendship.” She took a deep breath, “I’m scared that I’m damaged beyond repair and undeserving of you. Most of all, I’m scared of the hope I’m feeling that you feel the same way I do and then I’ll be left at the alter again. I don’t think I could go through that again especially if that meant losing you.”
She heard him suck in a breath and then he moved to sit up resting against his headboard. (Y/N) was surprised when he pulled her onto his lap holding cradling her in his arms. Her arms instantly went around his neck as his eyes bore into hers.
“I’m scare too and for some of the same reasons. Hearing you talk about how you’re damaged or undeserving makes me what to find you ex and not only kick his ass but shake his hand to thank him.” He said as (Y/N) gave him a confused look.
He smiled, “Well I think it’s only polite to thank him for being a complete douche for leaving an amazing woman at the alter so that I can have the chance to win her heart. I should have punch that guy from the get go when he asked you out after setting me up with my ex just to get me out of the way.”
“Wait, what? He knew you liked me?” she asked stunned.
Jensen nodded, “Everyone knew I liked you except for you and me. He set me up saying we could go out on a double date and then he showed up with you. I felt like I got punched in the gut and you were so happy that I couldn’t do anything about it but be there for you. When he left you at the alter it took Jared and my dad to keep me from finding him to beating him within an inch of his life.”
She sat there shocked by his revelation, “Do… do you know the real reason why he left me?” she asked looking down at his chest.
She felt shake his head and she looked up at him, “I received a letter from him on Christmas afterwards. He told me that he had found the woman of his dreams and they were both in relationships. They decided to run off together to elope but that they would be moving back to Austin to start a family in the house he had bought for us. A few weeks later, I saw them walking down the street holding hands, laughing, smiling and I immediately left Austin moving as far away as I could.”
Anger flashed before his dark olive eyes before he shook his head, “Bastard.” He whispered.
“Jensen, what happened then has a huge effect on me now. I… I don’t want to screw this up rather it’s a relationship or our friendship.” She said quietly biting her lip.
He placed his hand on her cheek his thumb gently running across it, “You’re not going to screw up anything. We will be in this together, but I don’t think I can go back to just being friends. It’s too hard to hold back from kissing you and wanting to hold your hand at all possible moments. It won’t be easy especially with my schedule, but you know how I am. If I want something bad enough then I will work my ass off for it. I want this more than anything, pretty girl.”
Jensen leaned in his lips brushing against hers hesitantly then she pressed hers against his firmly. It was not the first time they had kissed, but everything was different. This kiss sealed their future in place and any doubts she had vanished completely.
“Merry Christmas (Y/N),” he whispered against her lips.
“Merry Christmas Jensen.” She said as he kissed her again.
Well he's all I want just for me Underneath my Christmas tree Ill be waiting here Santa that's my only wish this year
The Constellation Effect | Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Pairings: Taehyung x Yoongi; Yoongi x Y/N
Ratings: slow burn, angst, soulmate au, fluff
Summary:
It's Yoongi's last year in Hogwarts, his last year to wonder about what he really wants to do after graduating. He can't think of a worst possible year to start falling for someone who isn't even able to leave the Hogwarts castle than this one.
It's Taehyung's last year before the Sickness finally causes him to slip into that dreaded coma. If only the ghost of his past self could finally pass over so Taehyung could focus on other things: becoming a Dragon Tamer, and finding out who has the same constellation tattoo he has.
It's Y/N's last year, or at least she hopes so. Or maybe she doesn't. It's kind of difficult when you're a ghost and in love with your best friend who happens to be graduating soon.
Connecting all three of them is the Constellation Effect, a universal phenomenon that marks everyone with stars and constellations on their shoulders, connecting them through past lives and dictating who belongs with whom.
Featuring: NamJin's never-empty plates of food, VHope if you look closely, and JiKook if you stay tuned to the next chapter.
Word Count: 6k words
A/N: Omg I’m so sorry this is so laaaaate. I finished the chapter a few days ago but I only got to upload it now T^T. Anyway, here’s the first chapter finally and I just really hope that college doesn’t stress me out enough to delay the next chapter. Also, I hope you guys really enjoy my first attempt at making a BTS Hogwarts soulmate AU :)
Part 1 of ?
“I can’t believe they deemed you mature enough to be Head Boy for Gryffindor,” Yoongi muttered as he watched Seokjin polish the pin on his robes for what seemed to be the fifth time that morning.
“Hey! I’m mature when I want to be,” Seokjin protested indignantly. “But, if you’re looking at the pool of seventh-year Gryffindor boys to choose from, I’d say this is pretty reasonable,” he shrugged. “Plus, it does match my overall aesthetic of—”
“Big-headedness?” Namjoon interrupted, poking his head into their train compartment. Yoongi laughed at the reaction on Seokjin’s face.
“I am this close to breaking up with you,” Seokjin scowled.
“That’s what you said last time, babe,” Namjoon grinned, kissing his boyfriend on the forehead before sliding into the seat next to him. Meanwhile, Yoongi stretched his legs out completely across the seat that was all his. He never really felt bothered by being the third wheel around Seokjin and Namjoon, or NamJin as he liked to call them to save on syllables. If they loved each other who was he to stop them from showing it?
“So, last year for you guys, huh?” Namjoon said, looking at both Yoongi and Seokjin.
“Yeah,” Yoongi nodded, looking out the window at the students in the station who were either loading their trunks, saying goodbye to their parents, boarding the train, or just doing a bunch of those things at the same time. “I can’t believe it’s been seven years already. It all feels so fast…”
“Awww, Yoongi’s getting all emotional on us already,” Seokjin sighed.
“Hyung it’s only the start of the school year and I thought I was the dramatic one,” Namjoon added, grinning cheekily at him.
“Shut up,” Yoongi scowled.
“Oh by the way hyung, did you check out that thing I sent you?” Namjoon asked.
“Yeah, I have it with me right now,” Yoongi nodded, pulling out a folded-up flyer from his jeans pocket. ‘MUSIC PRODUCERS WANTED’ was written on the top in big, bold letters. Yoongi’s eyes were especially drawn to the ‘BigHit’ logo on the very top part of the flyer. Most of the music Namjoon and Jungkook recommended him and had grown to love listening to were made by artists and producers under that entertainment company. Yoongi practically died and rose again when he pulled the flyer out of the envelope Namjoon sent him over the summer.
“What do you think?” Namjoon grinned, raising his eyebrow.
“That would be perfect for you!” Seokjin exclaimed.
“Do you really think I can make it?” Yoongi frowned. “I mean, I only started producing a year ago and—”
“You’re an absolute genius at it,” Namjoon cut him off. “Trust me Yoongi, your music sounds like you’ve been producing for years,” he grinned.
“Even I like it,” Seokjin added, nodding his head. “And I don’t even listen to your kind of music that much.”
“Thanks guys,” Yoongi quirked his lips up in a smile. “I-I think I’ll go for it then. I mean, I haven’t even done any apprenticeship or training things yet anyway.” He knew that most of his fellow seventh-years often took the opportunity during summer break do join apprenticeships or special training classes in things that they wanted to do in the future like working with the Ministry or becoming an Auror.
“Didn’t you do Ministry work with your dad?” Seokjin frowned.
“That doesn’t count,” Yoongi rolled his eyes. “I was there for a week before I finally bought some Puking Pastilles and pretended to be sick for another week.”
“A true Slytherin genius,” Seokjin clapped his hands slowly. “Wish I thought of that before being hauled off by my mother to join all her stupid business meetings.”
“You didn’t get to take up Professor McGonagall’s offer on becoming a Teaching Assistant did you?” Namjoon said sadly, placing his hand on Seokjin’s knee. Yoongi pouted sympathetically. Seokjin was one of those rare seventh-years who wanted to be a professor after graduating from Hogwarts. He often joked about gracing the History of Magic class with a more handsome face once he was qualified to be a professor. Still, he was quite the serious student and an even more serious study buddy whenever exams came up. Yoongi knew Seokjin would make an amazing professor.
“Well, there’s always this year,” Seokjin flashed his signature carefree grin and put his feet up on the seat next to Yoongi who scowled and inched himself away.
“Idiot, you’re Head Boy this year. Say goodbye to your beauty sleep,” Yoongi reminded him.
“Way to ruin the vibe,” Seokjin groaned.
“You’re supposed to be checking on the other students too before the train leaves,” Namjoon added.
“That can wait,” Seokjin waved it off and leaned his head on Namjoon’s shoulder. Yoongi chuckled at the two of them and looked down at the flyer, smoothing it over on his lap.
“You still have plenty of time to work on your track,” Namjoon pointed out. “The deadline’s still in December.”
“It’s gotta be a damn good one if I’m trying to get into BigHit,” Yoongi muttered, feeling his fingers subconsciously tapping on his knee, already trying to figure out some kind of main melody for his track.
“If it’s in December, you could come over to my house too during Christmas break if you need to use some equipment,” Namjoon volunteered. “Just tell your parents you’re staying over at Hogwarts again or something.”
“R-really?” Yoongi looked up at him with wide eyes. “That would be great!”
“Wow, you’re inviting him over for the holidays instead of your own boyfriend,” Seokjin huffed.
“What’s the use? My mom’s already sending you a personal invitation,” Namjoon grinned, pinching his boyfriend’s cheek.
“I guess she’s relieved that Namjoon has a soulmate that will really take care of him,” Yoongi chuckled.
“It’s hard not being the Mom Friend when you’re in a group that has both Namjoon and Kim Tae—”
“Mom!” Taehyung yelled, sliding the door to the train compartment open. The three of them inside jumped in surprise at his sudden appearance. Taehyung was still wearing his regular Muggle clothes: jeans, and what appeared to be either his pajama top or another one of his weird ‘fashionista’ tops. He was clutching a roll of parchment in one hand and a quill in the other.
“And another year in Hogwarts has begun,” Seokjin sighed.
“You need to help me with this essay,” Taehyung pleaded, looking at Seokjin and Namjoon.
“Come in and sit down,” Yoongi offered, moving his legs so that there was room on the seat next to him. Taehyung looked at him in surprise, as if realizing he was just there, before finally sliding into the seat next to him.
“Wait, don’t tell me this is the essay for your apprenticeship application,” Seokjin frowned. Taehyung nodded.
“Taehyung, tomorrow morning’s the deadline isn’t it?” Namjoon sighed. Yoongi found himself chuckling at the three of them. There was no way he was going to deny the fact that Taehyung was actually Namjoon and Seokjin’s child.
“What are you planning to apprentice in?” Yoongi asked, sliding closer to Taehyung.
“A Dragon Tamer’s assistant!” he exclaimed, the worried look on his face instantly melting away as he grinned. “Drake Pendleton, the most famous Dragon Tamer in Wales. He’s so good he managed to lure a Hungarian Horntail in a cage with nothing but two chickens.”
“And at this rate you won’t be able to see him if you don’t send that essay,” Seokjin warned. “How much have you written so far?”
“Two paragraphs,” Taehyung bit his lip, showing the parchment wherein two paragraphs, very short ones, were written in his signature, barely-legible handwriting. “Its hard to think of what to say and then write it down…” he mumbled.
“Well, two paragraphs is not nothing. I’m sure you can finish it within the day,” Yoongi reassured him.
“You of all people know that feeling,” Namjoon joked. Yoongi smirked in response. He was always cramming whatever he had due on the day itself. But despite how bad that sounded, it did come in handy when there was way more requirements than usual and cramming was the only thing left to do.
“Well catch you later then,” Seokjin adjusted his robes and stood up.
“Wait, where are you going?” Taehyung pouted. “You have to help me here.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll do fine,” Seokjin winked at him. “And besides, I was supposed to be in the compartment with the Prefects five minutes ago.”
“I’ll walk with you,” Namjoon volunteered, not quite to either Yoongi’s or Taehyung’s surprise. “I’ll try to help you out later, okay Taehyung?” And with one last wave from him, the two of them left the train compartment.
“Sorry again for bothering you,” Taehyung rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “I really thought Namjoon-hyung and Seokjin-hyung would have time today to help me out. I guess I’ll go do it on my own.”
“Alright,” Yoongi shrugged, handing Taehyung’s essay back to him. Among the maknaes, Yoongi realized that Taehyung was probably the person he hung out with the least. Jungkook was his housemate and practically his little brother. Jimin was in the Dueling Club so they saw each other quite often. But Taehyung… it was pretty much evident that the boy didn’t really have a regular schedule. He pretty much did what he felt like doing at the moment, and that could be anything.
What he did know about Taehyung though, ever since he was in first year when he and the maknaes joined his circle of friends, was that he had the Sleeping Sickness. Every knew about it. After all, it wasn’t something easy to hide and Yoongi himself had witnessed Taehyung’s fainting spells time and time again. It was something everyone in their friend group was concerned about. He couldn’t possibly imagine how that would feel: to be branded and seen by everyone as someone with the Sleeping Sickness.
‘It’s going to be his last year too,’ Yoongi realized. It kind of terrified him now that Taehyung, one of his friends and people he personally knew, could just slip into that coma and probably never wake up. But judging by the way Taehyung was practically stressing his eyeballs out over his essay, it looked as if he was still quite optimistic about his future. It was Kim Taehyung after all.
“I guess I’ll get going,” Taehyung sighed and stood up by the train compartment door. “Jimin promised he would help me write this essay too.”
“Good luck,” Yoongi smiled a tight smile and waved before Taehyung finally left.
Now that he was alone in the train compartment, Yoongi found himself settling into his normal sleeping position: curled up on his side with his two hands pressed tightly in-between his thighs. His friends always told him he looked weird when he was asleep but Yoongi couldn’t help it, he liked having his hands close to him.
But even in his favorite sleeping position, Yoongi couldn’t quite stop the rush of anticipation he felt as the train grew closer and closer to Hogwarts. After a few more futile attempts, Yoongi had to give in, knowing that there was no way he was going to have his nap anytime soon when he knew he was going to see Y/n in a few hours.
Y/n, L/n. The ghost girl who haunted the Astronomy Tower of Hogwarts Castle. And most importantly, Yoongi’s best friend since he was a first year. He could still clearly remember how he came across her while figuring out a secret entrance from the Astronomy Tower to the Ravenclaw Tower without having to pass through the enchanted doorway. She liked the fact that Yoongi wasn’t scared or wary of her and he liked that she was an easy person to talk to. Eventually, it became an everyday thing for Yoongi to go and see her at least once a day, mostly at night.
‘She never gets tired of looking at the stars,’ Yoongi thought with a wistful smile on his face. And with that, he found himself finally drifting off to sleep.
“Back so soon?” Jimin looked up and frowned when he saw Taehyung enter the train compartment they shared not long after he left.
“He had to go join the Prefects now that he’s Head Boy,” Taehyung pouted and sat down on the seat right beside Hoseok, across Jimin and Jungkook.
“I’m guessing Namjoon joined him too,” Hoseok smirked.
“Those two are practically glued together,” Jungkook said.
“Speak for yourself,” Taehyung and Hoseok chorused. Jimin erupted laughing.
“Yoongi-hyung was there though…” Taehyung added softly, already feeling his face beginning to flush.
“Well you should have asked him for help!” Hoseok started, standing up on his feet. “Come on, let’s go back.”
“No, he seems busy,” Taehyung shook his head. “He looked like he had something on his mind.”
“He always does,” Jimin shrugged.
“If only Hoseok could just talk about what makes hyung tick so we can help Taehyung out here,” Jungkook glared at Hoseok. But because of his so-called ‘bunny features’, it didn’t look threatening at all.
“My lips are sealed,” Hoseok shook his head.
“I guess I’ll have to rely on you three to help me write this thing,” Taehyung waved his sheet of parchment in the air.
“How many questions have you finished?” Hoseok asked.
“…One. Now I’m on ‘What kind of previous experiences with magical creatures do you think will help you as an apprentice?’”
“That’s easy,” Jungkook shrugged and put his feet up on the seat next to Hoseok who grimaced and pushed them away. “Just talk about that time you visited the Acromantula cave for a week when one of them was injured.”
“But Acromantulas are different from dragons.”
“How about that time you hatched salamander eggs all by yourself in the Ravenclaw Common Room?” Jimin suggested. “Salamanders are kind of similar to dragons.”
“And I bet Filch has a record of that if you need anything to prove your story,” Hoseok nudged him. Taehyung grinned at the memory of him and his friends trying to hatch salamander eggs together in the Ravenclaw Common Room’s fireplace. Even Yoongi was there passing cool towels around for people to prevent them from overheating. A small fire did happen inside the room but nothing an Aguamenti charm couldn’t handle. Still, Taehyung was punished with detention for his recklessness.
“I think I’ll go with that,” Taehyung nodded, picking up his quill before starting to write about it in his essay.
“Man, being Pendleton’s apprentice is going to be amazing for you,” Jimin sighed with an excited grin on his face. “You’ll be able to go to his awesome laboratory and travel with him around the world…”
“You better get his autographs for us when you do,” Jungkook added.
“Hold on, hold on, I haven’t even sent this essay yet,” Taehyung laughed nervously in reaction to his friends’ excitement. “I mean, I don’t even know if I’m going to be able to get in…”
“I’m sure Pendleton will see that you have what it takes,” Hoseok placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “You’re more experienced at magical creatures than anyone I know in Hogwarts, except maybe Hagrid. And even he says than you know more than the seventh-year students he has.”
“But, I have the Sickness too,” Taehyung finally blurted out. Instantly, the look of excitement on his friends’ faces disappeared, replaced by looks of sympathy. Taehyung felt regret form like a lump in his throat, his friends only wanted to be excited for him. But the fine line between supporting Taehyung’s future dreams and escaping the current reality he was in grew thinner and thinner every day. It was almost his fifteenth year.
Among all of them, it was Jungkook who broke the silence.
“Well, if Pendleton rejects your application because of your Sleeping Sickness, then he’s not as resourceful and adventurous as we thought,” he said.
“You really do know the right thing to say sometimes,” Jimin smiled proudly at him.
“It’s true though,” Hoseok shrugged. “And besides, I’m positive that you’ll be fixed up and Sleeping Sickness-free by the time the year ends,” he grinned reassuringly.
“I really do hope that some huge plot twist in my life happens before the year ends,” Taehyung shrugged one shoulder.
“Does this plot twist involve someone really short, kinda grumpy, and very good at dueling?” Hoseok raised his eyebrows. Jimin and Jungkook quickly joined in on the teasing.
“Shut up,” Taehyung groaned despite the embarrassed smile that was quickly growing on his face. “I regret my life the minute I started telling you guys about my Yoongi crush.”
“Who said we were talking about Yoongi?” Jungkook said. “I thought Hoseok was talking about Professor Flitwick.” And with that, the entire compartment dissolved into fits of laughter.
“Ugh, you guys are the worst. I’m doing my essay somewhere else,” Taehyung made a face at them and stepped out of the train compartment, still holding the piece of parchment he was writing on.
And that’s when his vision began to swim.
Taehyung gripped the door of the compartment to steady himself, blinking rapidly in order to get his bearings back again even though he knew that rarely worked. ‘No, not now! I still have to finish this essay!’ he thought frantically. But his vision only grew worse with the same black spots he’s known all his life appearing at the edges of his sight.
“Taehyung? You okay?” he heard Hoseok call out to him but his voice sounded further away than normal.
“H-hyung…” Taehyung said weakly before finally letting his legs give way, feeling a pair of hands catching him before he fell.
Yoongi found himself feeling antsy and restless throughout the entire Hogwarts opening feast. Was it just him, or were there at least a dozen more First-years in the new batch? Or maybe the Sorting Hat was taking a longer time than usual sorting the new students.
Sitting beside Namjoon and Seokjin seemed to make matters worse. Seokjin constantly refilled his plate while Namjoon practically had two bites of food for every ten minutes because he was reading another book so the sight of their full plates made it seem like time was barely passing at all. It drove Yoongi crazy. If there weren’t professors constantly keeping an eye on the Great Hall doors, Yoongi would have left in a heartbeat. Even though it was his last year of Hogwarts, and therefore his last Great Feast, Yoongi knew he wanted to spend it elsewhere.
‘She must be restless already,’ Yoongi thought, remembering that time when Y/N practically floated straight through him, probably her own way of clamoring him, the minute he stepped through the door. That was last year.
“Hey, has anyone see those three around?” Seokjin frowned, looking around the Great Hall. Yoongi joined in, glad that there was something to put his mind off the waiting. By ‘those three’, Seokjin always meant the maknaes. Just then, Yoongi spotted Hoseok – quite easily considering the fact that he always seemed to make his Hufflepuff robes seem more majestic than usual – stand up and walk over to their table.
“Finally got tired of them?” Yoongi smirked at him as he sat down.
“Aish, I’ll never get tired of my teammates,” Hoseok denied. “Well, maybe a little,” he added.
“You’re in a safe, quiet space,” Seokjin patted his back and handed him a plate of dinner rolls. “Come on, I don’t think you were able to eat properly around all that noise.”
“Thanks,” Hoseok flashed a tired smile and grabbed a few of the rolls.
“Hey, do you know where those three are? We haven’t seen them all night,” Namjoon asked, finally marking the page he was reading in his book and setting it down.
“Oh,” Hoseok’s face fell slightly and Yoongi could quickly guessed what he was going to say next. “It’s Taehyung.”
“Again?” Namjoon frowned worriedly. The joking, happy demeanor the four of them had earlier vanished. Even Seokjin stopped eating. “The last time that happened was like what, a week ago?”
“3 days,” Yoongi shook his head. “Jungkook wrote to me. Taehyung was sleeping over at his at that time.”
“Its supposed to be his final year already,” Hoseok added softly. “And he’s still signing up for Pendleton’s apprenticeship, something that he most definitely deserves to have and something he’ll undoubtedly get if it weren’t…”
“For the Sleeping Sickness,” Yoongi finished, nodding slowly.
“It just really sucks,” Hoseok shook his head.
“Well, its amazing that he’s still quite optimistic,” Namjoon smiled. “I mean, compared to other people I’ve met who have it. Taehyung really is amazing.”
‘You can think of it that way…’ Yoongi thought to himself but chose not to say it out loud anyway. Instead, he felt his hand reach instinctively to touch the tattoo on his shoulder. He couldn’t tell if it was just him, but he felt a sudden itch. Just then, a hush fell upon the Great Hall as Headmistress McGonagall approached the podium in front of the professors’ table.
“Students of Hogwarts,” she greeted. “Another Great Feast is approaching its end. For some of you, there are many, many more to come and for others, this will be one of your last few ones.”
“Why does she make it sound so ominous?” Seokjin shivered. Yoongi chuckled at him.
“Before letting you go to your dormitories,” Yoongi perked up slightly when he heard that, “I would like to make a special announcement.”
“I knew it! They’re finally adding an amphitheater!” Namjoon grinned and high-fived Yoongi.
“I guess we finally got through to McGonagall,” he cheered.
“This year,” McGonagall continued. Yoongi strained his ears to listen. “We’re going to have… a Yule Ball!”
“NO!” Yoongi and Namjoon groaned simultaneously.
“You tried,” Seokjin sighed, patting Namjoon on the back.
“The Yule Ball, often held during the now-illegal TriWizard Tournament, will happen at the end of the year and will be used as a fundraiser for a new amphitheater in school,” McGonagall finally finished. The Great Hall erupted into cheers.
“No way!” a grin broke out on Namjoon’s face again.
“Hey, won’t it be done by the end of the year? Like, when I’m about to leave?” Yoongi frowned. “Ah! Not fair!” he groaned.
“You can come back maybe?” Hoseok suggested.
“It’s not going to be the same,” Yoongi pouted.
“Information about the Yule Ball will be released later during the year,” McGonagall added. “But for now, everyone is invited to join dance lessons after school every Tuesday and Thursday.”
“Hey, let’s join that!” Seokjin elbowed Namjoon.
“Fine. But only because its your last your last year,” Namjoon smiled at his boyfriend. Yoongi wouldn’t deny that sometimes he did feel uncomfortable around Seokjin and Namjoon. Not because he felt jealous or disgusted, but because seeing their feelings for each other overwhelmed him. Their wistful smiles, the soft hand-touches, the way their heads and bodies automatically leaned towards each other when they were together, all of them echoing with ‘I love you and I’m glad I’m with you.’
It scared Yoongi.
He thought again about Y/n, his best friend, the ghost of the girl who died too quickly, never tasting the kind of love that Seokjin and Namjoon had, and ended up haunting the Astronomy Tower because of that lack.
Love was dangerous. And Yoongi didn’t know if he wanted to be a part of that.
“One hour…” Y/N whispered. You were sitting on the windowsill with your knees pulled up to your chest, watching the last thin trail of sands run down the hourglass. Gently, you picked it up and turned it over again. ‘Professor McGonagall must have some new big announcement this year,’ you wondered. The last Great Hall feast, the year when Yoongi entered to start his sixth year, just lasted for about two and a half hours. This one was already one hour over that time.
Of course, that was nothing compared to the entire summer break. Not only was she unable to see Yoongi, but write letters to him as well. Pranking Filch with Peeves and chatting with the Gray Lady occupied some of her time, but not a great big portion of it. Not enough to ignore the fact that Yoongi wasn’t there and that after this year, he won’t be coming back for a long time.
Were you in love with him? Undeniably so. And knowing that only made it passing on even harder. You felt sorry for whoever was occupying her next body but that even that couldn’t stop her feelings.
‘Maybe I’ll vanish too, after he leaves Hogwarts,’ you wondered. But based on what the other Hogwarts ghosts said, ghosts who had lived in the castle for centuries, passing on was difficult. Even more so if you’ve been around for quite some time.
Suddenly, the sound of the door opening startled you out of your thoughts. You smiled at the familiar sight: Yoongi, with his inky black hair, worn-out but expensive clothes, and, you dared to think it, that glint in his eyes whenever he saw you.
“Yoongi!”
“Sorry I’m late Y/N,” Yoongi panted. It was clear that he probably ran up the stairs to the tower. “The feast took forever.”
“You should be enjoying it,” you grinned and shrugged one shoulder. “I mean, I’m not leaving anytime soon.”
Yoongi’s reply was already on his face and Y/N quickly looked away, wishing you hadn’t brought it up too early on in your meet-up. But Yoongi didn’t say anything. Instead, he walked towards you and picked up the hourglass.
“I can’t believe you still have this,” he smiled slightly, looking down at it.
“Of course, a decent Yoongi gift is pretty rare,” you laughed.
“Hey! I only gave you a rock five times,” he protested.
“Five times out of six!”
“Fair enough,” Yoongi sighed, clearly knowing he lost. You smiled at the hourglass still in his hands. It was made of carved red oak, polished and varnished until it shone. Inside the glass were grains of sand that magically changed color whenever you turned the hourglass.
“It makes up for all of those rock gifts though,” you chuckled, putting your feet down and scooching over closer to him. “Well, almost.”
“My company itself is the gift,” Yoongi joked.
“As if!”
“I guess the normal topic of conversation right now would be ‘What did you do over the summer?’ but I doubt that’s going to be more of a one-side conversation,” Yoongi looked up at you. His bangs fell over his forehead in a wave and you resisted the urge to push them back. You could only touch objects, not people. If you tried to, all Yoongi could feel would be ice on his brow.
“You know how much I love one-side conversations,” you grinned at him instead, pulling your knees up to your chest again and resting your chin on top.
“Alright then,” Yoongi grinned, adjusting his position so he was leaning against the window frame before proceeding to talk about his summer. You always liked watching Yoongi talk for lengths at time. He rarely talked at length with people, except his friends, but when he did, it was often at length. It sometimes amazed you that he had all of those thoughts stored up inside him. No wonder his rap lyrics were often so good.
“I think you should definitely go for submitting to BigHit,” you said. “It sounds like something you want to do. And don’t you want to see how good your music is out in the Muggle world?”
“I know but…” Yoongi pouted slightly. “It means I’ll have to be gone during Christmas break to work on it. I won’t—”
“A few weeks of Christmas break is way shorter than two whole months of summer,” you waved him off. “And if you miss this kind of opportunity, I’ll haunt you every night starting at two in the morning,” you warned.
“Aish, you’re really evil,” Yoongi groaned but smiled nonetheless. “Are you sure you’ll be okay here?”
‘I’ll miss you… terribly,’ you thought but again, held it back. “As long as you give more presents,” you grinned cheekily.
“Fine, more rocks it is then,” he laughed.
“Get out of here!”
Yoongi laughed even louder at that and you couldn’t help but join in. He always made you laugh.
But all the while, you kept wondering how it was possible for your chest to hurt even if you didn’t have a body.
“Come on, its three in the morning already. Filch will give you hell for this,” Y/N urged Yoongi again, gesturing at the hourglass beside them which had completed another hour.
“Don’t lie, you sent Peeves after him again, didn’t you?” Yoongi pointed.
“How dare you accuse me of such a crime!” Y/N gasped before finally laughing and nodding. “Yeah, I did.”
“I knew it,” Yoongi smirked and leaned back against the wall as he looked at Y/N again. It was obvious that she wouldn’t change over the summer. Same hair, same height, same long, white, nightgown. Sometimes Yoongi wondered how she would change over the years as a normal Hogwarts student. Maybe she’d wear more make-up or fix her hair differently, or change up her clothing style. But then thinking about all of that made him feel undeniably sad. No, Y/N was never going to change. Only disappear, if she ever did.
“Come on,” Y/N urged him again. “You need to wake up bright and early for your first seventh-year class!”
“Fine…” Yoongi finally gave in and stood up. “But I’m telling you, I really don’t do bright and early.” Y/N smiled up at him. He couldn’t tell if it was the moonlight shining but somehow, she seemed to be glowing quite brightly. A puzzled look came up on her face and Yoongi quickly looked away when he remembered he was staring.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then,” he said, stuffing his hands into his pockets and making his way to the door.
“See you tomorrow, Yoongi,” Y/N called after him before he finally left the room. Once outside, Yoongi pulled out his wand and cast a Lumos charm before going down the winding steps of the Astronomy Tower. Once he reached the bottom landing where the upper floor hallway was, Yoongi headed off to the left, passing the Ravenclaw Tower and towards where the stairs were. Suddenly, he heard a small voice call out to him.
“Yoongi-hyung!”
“AHHH!” Yoongi dropped his wand in surprise and whirled around to find Taehyung sitting on the ground, near the entrance to the Ravenclaw Tower.
“Scared you?” Taehyung grinned cheekily, picking up Yoongi’s wand and handing it back to him.
“W-why aren’t you in bed?” Yoongi stammered.
“Why aren’t you in bed?” Taehyung returned the question.
“Answer my question first!”
“Fine, fine,” Taehyung gave in. “I was working on my essay,” he answered, pulling out a piece of parchment from his pocket.
“In the dark?”
“Glow-in-the-dark pen!” Taehyung grinned, showing off a pen, not unlike the one Namjoon used. “I bought it at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. The ink glows in the dark but only in the hands of its user. Under regular light, it just looks like plain ink.”
“That’s pretty nifty,” Yoongi raised his eyebrows in appreciation.
“So, why are you out at night, hyung?” Taehyung asked.
“I was just stargazing,” Yoongi lied effortlessly.
“Ooh, I never knew you liked doing that too,” Taehyung grinned. “Tell me when you go next time so we can watch together!”
“Sure,” Yoongi smiled and ruffled his hair, even though he had to reach up a bit since Taehyung was already two inches taller than him. And without even fully considering it, he said “Need any more help with your essay?”
“Um…” Taehyung looked down at his parchment. “It’s kind of late and—”
“Come on, two heads are better than one,” Yoongi shrugged and sat down on the floor where Taehyung was earlier. Reluctantly, Taehyung joined him, unfolding his essay on the floor between them.
“Hmm… it’s going to be even harder working in this lighting,” Taehyung muttered. “Hold on…” Yoongi watched silently as Taehyung took off his shoe and with a wave and a tap of his wand, transfigured it into an oil lamp. Yoongi whistled in surprise.
“Once again, your Transfiguration skills are amazing,” he praised him.
“Thanks,” Taehyung grinned. “I haven’t seen Filch around so this should be okay.”
“Yeah, I don’t think he’ll be coming anytime soon,” Yoongi chuckled. “Oh, maybe you should mention your Transfiguration skills in your essay.”
“Good idea!” Taehyung grinned, bending over as he scribbled some more stuff on the parchment. “I kind of lost time by fainting earlier but at this rate, I should be done with this by morning.”
“That’s the spirit!” Yoongi patted him on the back.
“Man, I really hope I get accepted into this apprenticeship,” Taehyung sighed. “If I see him taming a dragon in real life I’ll probably faint. But like, just because of that.” Yoongi burst out laughing which made Taehyung laugh too.
“That… that might not be such a good idea,” Yoongi said in between catching his breath from laughing too hard.
“I’m glad you laughed,” Taehyung grinned. “When I joke about it around my friends I usually just get a look of concern on their face.”
“Hmm, I wonder why?”
After an hour more of exchanging ideas, and some jokes, Taehyung finally finished his essay. Yoongi patiently waited for him to finish rewriting it on a fresh piece of parchment before leaving. Even though it was four in the morning, Yoongi didn’t feel in the least bit tired. In fact, he felt quite excited for Taehyung. ‘I don’t care if he has the Sleeping Sickness or not and ends up fainting while riding a dragon or something, I hope Taehyung gets this apprenticeship.’
“You really were a big help hyung, I owe you three pranks,” Taehyung grinned, looking up at him over his essay.
“I’ll take note of that,” Yoongi grinned.
“Have you tried signing up for apprenticeships yet?” Taehyung asked.
“Not really an apprenticeship,” Yoongi shook his head. “It’s… more of a Muggle internship.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out the folded-up flyer that was still there and handed it to Taehyung.
“Whoa, this was the one Namjoon-hyung was raving about,” he said. “Hyung, you should really join this!”
“That’s what everyone keeps telling me,” Yoongi shrugged one shoulder. “There’s a high chance that I’ll be rejected due to my inexperience but I still think that it could be worth a shot. Right now, not doing anything scares me even more.”
“Hmmm… me too,” Taehyung smiled sadly and leaned back against the wall. “It’s… it’s weird that I’m trying for this apprenticeship even though it is supposed to be my last year but I can’t help it.”
“You must really believe that your previous ghost reincarnation is going to pass on,” Yoongi remarked.
“It’s not that,” Taehyung shook his head. “I… I don’t really have a lot of hope for that. I’d rather take things into my own hands and try to make the best out of things before I, you know, slip into that coma. Of course I still hope that I wake up and all…”
“I hope that too,” Yoongi nodded. “Hoseok will cry for months and bother me if you don’t. Actually, everyone will.”
“How about you hyung?” Taehyung mock-pouted. “Aren’t you going to cry?”
“I’ll probably be busy handing everyone tissues,” Yoongi grinned cheekily and stood up. “Well, I guess my work here is done. Make sure you write the right address on the envelope.”
“Thanks again hyung!” Taehyung grinned. “See you around.”
And with that, Yoongi resumed walking back to his dormitory. Once he reached the end of the hallway, he couldn’t help but turn around to look at Taehyung sitting on the floor with his knees curled up to his chest as he wrote; the lamp in front of him cast everything in a warm light. Yoongi’s mind brought up the image of Y/N from earlier, right when he entered the Astronomy Tower, sitting with her knees curled up to her chest as well as she watched the hourglass; the moonlight from the window bathing her in cool, white light.
A New Life in New York: Dangerous Night (Thirty Seconds to Mars)
Tumblr media
So I have a huge multi-part piece I’m working on but the lyrics of “Dangerous Night” by Thirty Seconds to Mars inspired me to write this late last night and I cranked out 2,500 words in a matter of a few hours. I hope you enjoy it.
Harry
Tuesday, February 11, 2020
As I snuck up the stairs I could hear her singing along to music in the bathroom. Thirty Seconds to Mars. She often swore Jared Leto was at the top of her ‘hall pass list’. I liked to inform her that she was at the top of every list I had to try and make her feel guilty. It never worked. She got in this mood when she’d put on Thirty Seconds to Mars before I took her out on a date.
“What a dangerous night to fall in love. Don’t know why we still hide what we’ve become. Do you wanna cross the line? We’re running out of time. A dangerous night to fall in love,” she sang almost perfectly. She had the voice of an angel somedays and in moments like this that of a sexy siren.
“Hi there,” I said as I leaned up against the door looking at her as she got ready in the mirror. She was close to being done, I could tell because she had a full face of makeup, minus lipstick. Though she was still in booty shorts and a tank top, her usual outfit when she got ready. We hadn’t been together long but I knew her every move when getting ready. I’d laid in bed enough times watching her do this. She was almost always late getting ready or perhaps I was always early because I loved laying in her room watching her as she did this.
“Hey. I’m almost ready.”
“You’re fine.”
“You look nice.” Her eyes gave me a once over in the mirror. Black pants and a black dress shirt with a few too many buttons undone. It usually drove her wild. I’d left my jacket downstairs in the kitchen when I’d dropped Harper off to Elizabeth and Nellie. My Mom had a few friends in town from England so she was out with them tonight and Elizabeth had volunteered to watch everyone.
“Thanks, I have a hot date tonight. Thought I’d impress her.”
“So are you going to tell me what we are doing tonight?” she questioned.
“Nope.”
“I hate you.”
“No you don’t. You just hate surprises.”
“That too.”
“So you were singing along to your boyfriend when I came up here. You’re in a good mood tonight?”
“I am. I got in a good workout this morning, my trainer is kicking my ass.” She winked at me, I did kick her ass in the gym this morning. “I knocked my piece out of the park and met my deadline AND my editor loved it, it should go live tomorrow. I did a guest appearance on a podcast this afternoon. It was an all around awesome day and now I have this date tonight with this guy that is sort of makes me happy.”
I reached for her hand and pulled her back towards me. My arms wrapped around her as I bent down to kiss her. When she was barefoot she seemed so tiny. I wanted to pick her up and carry her into the bedroom but we weren’t there yet. We were taking our time to get to know each other. I was ready, I’d been ready basically since the first night we ran into each other at the bar after the doctor’s office run in. But her situation was different from mine so I needed to give her the space she needed. I would wait until the end of time if she needed me to and constantly told her that. She was worth waiting for. My hands slipped down her body and landed on her ass. I felt her smile against my lips. She pulled back and smiled up at me.
“So no hint at all about tonight?”
“Nope.” She glared at me before going into her closet.
“How am I supposed to know how to dress?” she yelled out to me.
“Dress sexy.”
“You tell me I’m sexy in my sweatpants when we watch TV on the couch with the kids on Saturday mornings.”
“Oh because you are sexy when you’re in your sweatpants with the kids on Saturday mornings. Hot Mom Status. Tonight, think sexy girlfriend. Channel the mind of a woman who doesn’t have to worry about kids at home because we have excellent childcare tonight.” She was quiet for a little bit minus her occasional singing along to the music that was still playing fairly loudly in her bathroom.
“How does this look?” She had on a short black dress that had a layer of lace over the top of it with a black leather jacket.
“Sexy as fuck.”
“Alright then, let’s go.” We walked downstairs and she went to give all of the kids hugs and kisses and tell them goodnight since I’d told her we wouldn’t be home before their bedtimes.
“I’ve got everything handled,” Nellie said.
“Thank you,” I replied quietly. Janie turned to look at me and smiled. “Come on, love. We’ll be late for our reservations.”
“Alright littles. I love you all. I will see you in the morning.” She kissed the top of all three of the kids’ heads where they sat at the island eating the mac and cheese that Elizabeth had made them for dinner. She was determined to feed Harper like ‘a normal child’ as she constantly told me. I’d tried so hard to keep the processed crap out of my kid but she was so happy eating her Kraft dinner with the other kids that I couldn’t resist the cheesy kisses she’d give me before we walked out the door for a date night. “Any hints yet?”
“Nope.”
“Still hate you.”
“Still lying.” The doors of the elevator opened and I grabbed her hand as we headed through the lobby as we walked out onto the street I saw the car service was waiting for us.
“Mr. Styles, Ms. Finnigan,” the driver said as they opened the door.
“A car service tonight?” she asked as we climbed into the back.
“Yup.”
“I’m used to you trying to be a man of the people, forcing me to take the subway.”
“Well, tonight is a special night. So we get a car.”
“Special night, huh?”
“Yup. I mean it is one month from our first date.” I watched her mouth drop open. “Surprised I remembered that?”
“I am,” she said. “More so shocked that I didn’t. Isn’t that a girl thing?”
“It typically is but you my love are not a typical ‘girl’ so I figured I’d take over that role.” She laughed before she leaned over and placed her head on my shoulder. The car drove us through the city until we reached the restaurant I’d picked for dinner. We went in and were quickly whisked to a private dining area.
“You went all out.”
“I did. And this is only the beginning.”
“Still aren’t gonna tell me are ya?” I shook my head and smirked at her. “Jackass.” We talked about our day with each other as we ate, made plans for the week ahead because while both of us claimed we didn’t care, Valentine’s Day was on Friday. She tried to convince me that tonight could count as more than one special occasion. Our Fridays since we started dating had been just as hers had been before me, pizza and movies with the kids. It was perfect and she didn’t want to mess that up for a cheesy commercial holiday. It made me fall for her even more that she put her kids, and lately my kid, above anything else.
“So can we go out on Thursday then if we can’t do Friday night?” I asked.
“You have work stuff Thursday night. You were rambling about it at the gym today. Some meeting that involves dinner and drinks with record execs.”
“Fuck, yes I do. Come with me to that.”
“I was supposed to have girls night.”
“With who? I thought your Mom’s Night Out was Wednesday?”
“Your daughter and mine. Your mother and I were going to spend time with the girls because Jameson wanted to have some time with Finn. I figured if you had work that I’d spend some time with Anne and Harper.”
“While that is adorable, it truly is, how about my Mum watches the girls and you come with me. These execs all come with their wives or girlfriends or mistresses, you might need to play your who is who game with me when inevitably I get tired of listening to them tell me that I need to come out from behind the scenes and record an album.”
“I was really looking forward to time with you Mom and the girls but maybe I can get her to watch them and we can take them to that salon I found that does Mommy and Me spa days in the afternoon while Finn is at school.”
“I love the sound of that idea.” I signed the check before I looked at her. “Ready for our next stop?”
“There’s another stop?”
“There is.” I smiled at her as she rolled her eyes at me knowing that there wasn’t a chance in hell I was telling her what was coming next.
“Then let’s go.” I helped her put her jacket back on and we were quickly out of the restaurant and back into the car heading through the city again. Next stop was a bar we’d been to a few times to enjoy a few drinks and the live music they had there every night before our final stop. “Drinks at The Viceroy?”
“Sort of,” I replied as I took her hand helping her out of the car. Once inside the lobby I headed to the elevators. I knew the life she’d lived in New York and how her head was thinking. She assumed we’d head up to the roof for one last drink before heading home. When we stopped on the 28th floor I watched her face change a bit, especially as I unlocked the door to Suite 57.
“What did you do?” she asked as she walked over to the wall of windows in the living room of the suite, complete with views of Central Park.
“I wanted tonight to be special.” Her eyes softened as she turned around to look at me. She held her hand out towards me. As our fingers touched she pulled me into her and kissed me. When I looked down at her I saw her eyes misting over a bit. “Are you crying?”
“No, but you are too perfect.”
“I don’t really think so, but I wanted tonight to be as perfect as it could be. The last month has been incredible. You make every day of my life immensely better than they were before I knew you. I don’t know how Harper and I were so lucky to find the empty seats beside you and Finn in that doctor’s office. That morning changed my life.”
“Mine too.”
“Jane Grey Finnigan, I love you.” I heard her breath catch and watched as she closed her eyes. That was when the first tear fell.
“I love you too.”
“Don’t just say it because I did. Our histories are different. You can take the time you need to tell me…”
“Harry, just shut up for a second.” She started to laugh at me. “Honestly, I was pretty sure I wasn’t ever going to find love again when Greyson died. That I’d had my chance, I’d gotten my one true love and was going to live the rest of my life alone. But you walked into that waiting room and changed my world. You have made me believe that it’s possible for me to love again and I’ve nearly shouted this at you every time you walk out the door to go home at night for the last week, I love you.” I bent down to kiss her and just as they had before in the bathroom at her house my hands wandered down to her ass, only this time I did pick her up and carry her into the bedroom.
I gently laid her down on the bed before laying on top of her. We’d done this before. We’d made out, we’d fooled around. We’d gone so far as to see each other naked a few times but until this point sex had been off the table. She was healing from a battered past, one that I didn’t want to complicate by forcing the issue of sex too soon. Waiting had been hard because she was unbelievably beautiful and everything about her enticed me. But I’d waited patiently for her to be ready. She’d started to hint that she was. She’d take things a little farther than she’d originally been comfortable with. She’d started getting ballsy enough that when we’d be up at night after kids were asleep having a glass of wine that she’d start to ask me what I was into sexually. Favorite positions? Best place I’d ever had sex? The kinds of things you talked about with a best friend but not often with a women you’d never gotten that intimate with. I knew it was her journalistic mind, always filled with questions and wanting to do her research.
“Janie, if you aren’t ready for this, we don’t have to,” I said as she pulled my shirt off and started for my pants.
“I’m okay.” She kissed me again as our clothes quickly made their way to the floor. We were slow. We were careful. This wasn’t something to do without thinking it through completely. It wasn’t just our lives that would be interrupted if we moved too quickly or messed things up. No longer was it a fling or just a pretty girl to chase. This woman consumed my every thought and emotion. This was something we couldn’t take back, something that would propel us into a different universe in our relationship.
“You are so beautiful,” I muttered against her skin. The connection I felt with her was more than just carnal desire. It was like our souls were bonded together. Our bodies moved in sync. She was timid, which was to be expected. Her eyes showed that she trusted me though. She knew I would get her through this hurdle she was facing. She hadn’t trust a man in this manner in a long time.
She finally laid with her head on my chest as my fingers ran through her hair. She was tracing the tattoos that covered my chest. She was quiet and I didn’t want to force her to talk.
“What a dangerous night to fall in love,” I quietly sang. She glanced up as a smile spread across her face. “Don’t know why we still hide what we’ve become. Do you want to cross the line, we’re running out of time. What a dangerous night to fall in love.”
I can’t wait to hear what you thought of this little piece. Their first ‘I love yous’ and first time together from Harry’s perspective. Someday I might write it from Janie’s because she had to have a million thoughts running through her head in the process.
Now to get back to work on the multi-part piece I’m working on.
xx AM.
MISS ME, MISS ME - An Everlark Drabble
For this year’s Secret Santa exchange I wrote a couple drabbles (3 parts per pairing) for my wonderful Santee, @thelettersfromnoone, and decided to repost them here on my blog.
This third one is Everlark.
I wish everyone  Happy Holidays and Good Luck for 2018!
"I'm not gonna make it, I'm so sorry."
Even before he picked up his phone and saw the picture of the both of them flashing on the screen, Peeta had somehow known she wouldn't be able to get back in time.
Wine & Dine Magazine had called two days ago. Some issue with their Thanksgiving Special Edition. The pictures of the turkey somehow ended up online and couldn't be used anymore. A horror scenario for the Magazine, and tons of extra work for a Food Stylist like Katniss was one. It felt a little ridiculous to him, if he was completely honest. Pictures of cooked turkeys couldn't exactly be compared to a leaked script of an upcoming episode of a hit show, but what did he know? Maybe turkey pictures were state secrets in the publishing world.
In the end it came down to Katniss rushing out of his apartment, driving over to her own, packing quickly and leaving with the first available flight to fabulous Las Vegas.
Yesterday, when they talked via facetime, she admitted that the issue was far worse than she expected, and that time was short measured. Although it was three weeks before Thanksgiving, editorial deadline was set for that evening. The Special Edition actually had to go out before the feast, or people wouldn't be able to take the magazines suggestions into consideration.
"Don't worry, love," he assured her, at the same time blowing out the candles on the table. "You got delayed in Chicago. Nobody could have foreseen that."
He heard her sigh through the phone. "Still. It's our anniversary, Peeta. I was looking forward to our dinner." She paused for a second and he got the feeling she was contemplating saying the next thing or not. In the end she swallowed her doubts and whispered, "I had a special surprise for you."
It made him smile. Katniss wasn't one for big gestures, he knew that. It was with seemingly everyday things she showed her affections. Buying a new bottle of his aftershave when he was nearly done with the old one. Placing a towel fresh out of the dryer for him beside the shower in the morning. Keeping raisins stocked in her kitchen, although she despised them, because he loved them.
So her actually making an extraordinary effort showed him how important she took this. And him.
"You can show me when you're back." He took the bottle of red wine and walked over to one of the huge wine fridges to place it back inside. He leaned back against the counter, holding on with one hand. "You can also tell me what it is now and I'll pretend to be surprised later."
That actually made her laugh out loud, which made him happy in return. Peeta didn't like it when Katniss worried too much.
"They just called my name," she finally announced, a bit of sadness in her voice. "I'll text you when I'm back?"
"Or you could stop by?" Peeta suggested, already knowing that she would decline.
Katniss sighed. "I'd love to, babe, but I'm not sure when I'll actually arrive and I don't want to wake you."
"I don't mind when you wake me up," he tried nonetheless.
She chuckled, but stood firm. "I'll come over for breakfast tomorrow. Deal?"
Peeta knew when he had to give in and agreed.
After they hung up, he looked around the spacious room and sighed once. Today was their third anniversary and just like the years before he closed the business for tonight. The silence of the empty restaurant suddenly felt very strange. He pushed himself off the counter, walked back to the only set table and started to clean up.
The small black velvet box went back into his pocket.
xXx
He greeted her with a deep kiss when she arrived for breakfast the next morning, which she returned wholeheartedly.
"Happy belated anniversary, love," he whispered at her lips, and for an answer she grinned before she kissed him again.
After they sat down and started to eat he reached into his pocket.
A moment later he presented her a key. "For you. Now it doesn't matter anymore at what time you arrive."
Katniss stared at the key for a couple seconds, eyes the size of a small plate. For a moment Peeta wasn't sure if he'd done the right thing, but then a glorious smile made her whole face light up.
She took the key from his hands and placed it on the table. Then she stood up and took his hand in hers. "I think it's time for your surprise," she giggled, while pulling him from his seat and down the hallway in the direction of his bedroom.
His smile was nearly blinding when he discovered the sunset-orange lingerie she was wearing.
xXx
The Everdeen tradition dictated to decorate and hang the stockings on the chimney on Thanksgiving Day. After the feast, everybody sat around the coffee table in the family room, drew a name from a bowl and started to decorate the stocking for the person they got. They drank Grandma Rosemarie's famous mulled wine and feasted on pumpkin pie and white chocolate chip cookies.
Peeta loved that tradition. From the first time he joined Katniss and her family for the holiday he instantly felt welcome and home.
It made him quite angry that he was about to miss all of it.
The Nashville branch had called late at night two days ago. Gunner, the restaurant manager, sounded crestfallen when he explained there had been a kitchen fire. The fire department had it quickly under control, but the kitchen didn't look good.
Peeta was on the first flight out to Tennessee.
When he arrived at the restaurant the stench of smoke and burned things was thick in the air. The kitchen looked even worse than he had expected. Peeta knew it would take a few days to arrange everything to reopen as fast as possible, starting with contacting the insurance, calling his financial advisers and accountants, organizing contractors for the rebuild and everything else in between.
"I'm so sorry, Katniss. Can't believe I'm gonna miss Thanksgiving, but it's worse than I thought," he sighed into the phone, his hand rubbing over his forehead in frustration. Tonight's headache was inevitable.
"It doesn't surprise me, Peeta. There was a fire in one of your restaurants, of course it will take time. I'm sad you're not gonna be here tomorrow, but I understand that you have no choice," Katniss replied with a hint of hurt in her voice. He knew she understood, but Thanksgiving was a big deal for her so he felt doubly bad. He hated it when he disappointed people, and Katniss especially.
"I’ll try to hurry, maybe I'll make it back for the stocking decoration." He attempted to think positive, but both he and Katniss knew it would be nearly impossible for him to get back that early.
"Peeta," Katniss sighed. "Really, it's okay. I know you feel bad about it, but this is really nothing you have any control over. Organising everything will take time, and everybody will understand that."
"Still …"
"Please, don't worry, babe," Katniss pleaded, and he gave in. He knew she was right and that she knew he hated that he was about to miss the holiday. Things like that were simply unforeseeable.
"I love you," he whispered into the phone, and was able to hear the soft smile in her voice when she returned the sentiment.
After they ended the call, he reached into his pocket. It seemed the black velvet box had to stay there for a while longer.
xXx
Exhaustion made him slump against the door when he arrived back home six days later. It was nearly midnight and he couldn't wait to crawl into his bed and sleep for the next twelve hours.
He was surprised when he looked up and discovered the dim light from the floor lamp shining from the living room. His exhaustion vanished a little by the thought that Katniss must have let herself in to wait for his return.
Ignoring the bags he hurried inside.
"Katniss?" he asked softly when there wasn't any movement. Only when he turned around the couch he saw that she had fallen asleep on it. He sat down on the coffee table and brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, smiling down at her. He loved it to come home to her.
"Peeta?" she mumbled, blinking a couple times, before a loving smile appeared around her lips when she found him sitting in front of her. "I'm glad you're home."
"I'm glad to be home," Peeta replied. She sat up and pulled him onto the couch. Wrapping his arm around her shoulders, he took a deep breath. He felt himself relax for the first time in days when she snuggled into his side.
For the next few minutes they simply sat there and enjoyed each other's company.
"I've got you something," Katniss finally interrupted their silence. She leaned forward and grabbed a small bag from the coffee table he hadn't noticed had been there. Peeta raised his eyebrows as he took it from her, but she just shrugged.
He nearly teared up when he discovered the decorated stockings, one with his and the other one with her name on it.
"The whole family helped," she explained, but then avoided his eyes and paused in her speech. Peeta knew she was searching for words, even though he had no idea what this was about. He waited patiently for her to continue.
Finally, after swallowing once and taking a deep breath, she looked up and said, "There are still last year's stockings at my parents house, but maybe … maybe we can hang the two new ones in our own home?"
"Katniss?" he nearly screeched. He was completely flabbergasted, not sure he understood correctly.
She took another deep breath before repeating her question, this time in clearer words. "Would you like to move in togeth-"
His kiss interrupted her question, and she laughed into it. He felt her shoulders relax and her arms wrapping around him.
"Absolutely," he whispered against her lips after a few moments, and then resumed kissing her breathless.
xXx
"But … but … it's Christmas!"
He could feel her irritation even though they were only talking over the phone. And her reaction was even understandable. Peeta actually was surprised she hadn't full out shouted at him. It wasn't every day your boyfriend told you he wouldn't be home for Christmas Eve.
"I know, love. And I'm so, so sorry," he apologized, sounding all the way remorseful and guilty, while he opened the oven and took the baked goods out of it. They were perfect.
"You're sorry?" her voice nearly cracked out of suppressed disappointment. "Peeta! If I had known earlier that you had to fly out to your parents I would have arranged to spend tonight at my family’s house, too. You've got to be kidding me!" Her anger finally made itself visible.
He put the pastries on a plate and placed it beside the pot of hot chocolate.
"It came very last minute, I'm really sorry, Kitty."
"Don't you dare 'Kitty' me!" she hissed, and even though he couldn't see her, he knew she must look like an avenging angel at that moment. "I'm really angry with you right now, Peeta Mellark! And when you're back after the holidays you've got a hell of lot of making up to do, Mister!" She huffed once. "Have a safe trip." And then the call was over.
Okay, that went surprisingly well, he mused, while arranging the drinks and food on the table and checking that everything was ready.
Shortly after Katniss had ended their conversation, Peeta heard keys in the lock, followed by the door being opened. He placed the last item on the table and then hurried into the dark kitchen to hide.
Only seconds later a surprised "What the heck …" reached his ears, followed by a loud gasp.
"PEETA MELLARK!" Katniss shouted, and he was actually surprised when he could make out traces of anger in her voice. He hadn't expected that. Confused, he stepped out of the kitchen and saw her standing in the living room, arms akimbo and glaring in his direction. Feeling surprised would have been an understatement. It felt more like stepping in front of an executioner.
"I can't believe you!" she spat, her silver eyes looking like storm clouds. "This is not how I imagined you finally giving me that stupid black velvet box!"
"I'm … sorry?" Her words felt like a kick to the guts. "I … I thought you'd-"
"You idiot!" she interrupted his stammering, still furious, but now he could also see the traces of tears on her cheeks. "First you call me and at the last minute cancel Christmas! You fucking canceled it! I was really mad, Peeta. Really mad. Because I was actually looking forward to spending the holidays with you. And when I come home, miserable and hurt -  and yes, angry - you do something like this!" With her arm she pointed at the arrangement on the coffee table.
Her tears streamed down her face freely, and the anger and furious glare had disappeared. She was full out sobbing now and he felt like the biggest asshole in the history.
He was a damn fool, that's what he was. He thought himself clever with his plan, wanted to make it special for her, and in the process forgot how the whole thing could backfire in such a bad way.
"Oh, baby!" he finally unfroze and hurried over to her. The moment his arms wrapped around her she buried her face into his neck, still crying. He brushed his hands over her back, through her hair; pressed his lips to her head, on her temple. Her sobs slowly got softer. "I'm so sorry, love. I … this … it's … I just wanted to make it special."
"I don't need special, Peeta. I just need you," Katniss finally hiccuped. He felt warmth flowing all through him, from his head to the tips of his toes. It wasn't often Katniss confessed such things. "I'm sorry, too. I turned into a banshee."
Peeta's lips formed into a smile at her temple. "But I love my banshee."
A half snort, half laugh escaped her, and he couldn't help himself and let out a soft chuckle. The whole scene was totally different than he had ever imagined.
Finally she raised her head and looked at him, still a little uncertain. "Will you still marry me?"
His heart nearly burst. Was she really asking him, after everything that just happened? As if he hadn't been sure from the moment he met her. "Will you still say yes if I ask?"
She raised one eyebrow, but the glint in her eyes was unmistakable. "Depends on the ring."
Peeta laughed out loud, before he stepped over to the coffee table, his arms still tightly wrapped around her, and took the black velvet box. The lid popped open and her eyes filled with tears again.
Katniss looked up from the ring, smiling. "Okay, you can ask n-"
"Will you marry me? Please?" he interrupted, his voice slightly cracking from the anticipation. He didn't care that her hair was a mess, that her face was slightly blotchy from the tears, or that she was still wearing her winter coat. She was the most beautiful person he had ever laid eyes on. The most caring, and loyal, and fierce. He loved her beyond measure.
"Yes!" she beamed. "Of course, you fool!"
They kissed and it was sloppy, their teeth getting in the way because they couldn't stop smiling, and their eyes never closing because they couldn't stop looking at each other. It was perfect.
It didn't take long to turn into heated, desperate kisses. Roaming hands. Flying clothes.
They didn't make it to the bedroom either, not when the couch was only steps away.
Afterwards, when their hearts and breaths calmed down, they sat bundled up in a soft blanket and feasted on the cheese buns and the now cold chocolate Peeta had prepared earlier.
Finally Katniss turned to him, smirking. "You should have asked months ago when you first bought the ring." Peeta's eyebrows shot up in confusion. "Seriously, babe. Next time you want to surprise me with jewellery make sure you don't leave the receipt on top of the mail pile."
"You're just too clever, love," he chuckled and leaned forward to kiss her again.
It was still surreal, but she really had said yes. She was going to be his wife. He would get his happily ever after with the love of his life, he would make sure of that. Yes, there would be obstacles to overcome, and challenges along the way, but Peeta knew he wouldn't want to work through them with anyone else at his side.
He was going to marry Katniss Everdeen. And he couldn't wait to spend the rest of their lives together.
