Why Smart People Procrastinate and What You Can Do About It
Smart people often procrastinate, and if you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been there. It’s worse than regular procrastination, you engage in conscious procrastination. Because you actively fuels it by pretending you will eventually change.
Maybe you’ve always been told you’re “so smart” or “full of potential,” but now you feel stuck in your own habits and losing your talent. The truth is, your perfectionism is a double-edged sword that holds you back.
Perfectionism: A Double-Edged Sword
When you set a goal, your sharp mind quickly crafts a detailed vision of how to achieve it perfectly. But that same brain spirals into overthinking—analyzing every possible detail and imagining obstacles you’re not ready to tackle yet. It’s overwhelming because many of these details are beyond your current abilities and would require yet another plan just to achieve them. If you don’t do it, you will never get it wrong and have to admit you may not be as smart as you think just because of one tiny failure.
Because you’re a smart person, you’re likely creative and imaginative. While working on one thing, your mind often wanders, exploring endless possibilities or generating new ideas in the background. This flood of creativity is a strength, but it can also be overwhelming. Sometimes, those ideas pull you away from your main goal, tempting you to start something new instead of staying focused. Recognizing this tendency can help you channel your creativity more effectively.
Then there’s the trust in your own procrastination skills. You’ve pulled it off before—waiting until the last minute and still doing well. Maybe you even thrive under pressure. But deep down, you know the stress is brutal, and the cycle keeps repeating. Even when you want to change, you hesitate because starting earlier feels unfamiliar, even intimidating.
So instead of starting, you freeze. After all, isn’t it safer to delay than to risk failing at being “the genius”?
Simple, Tiny Solutions You Can Act on Today
If you’re a procrastinator, I know you avoid anything that feels overwhelming and difficult. So here are solutions you can start right now:
1. Aim for “just good enough.”
Forget perfection—just aim for 60%. The goal is progress, not perfection. Once you start, your natural abilities will take over, and you’ll often do better than you expect.
2. Start small—ridiculously small.
Forget “read 10 minutes everyday”, commit to even just 30 seconds of action, like opening a book or writing one sentence. Similiar to the ideas of breaking tasks into chunks, psychology shows that small actions create momentum. Even tiny steps can build confidence and lead to much more progress than you planned.
3. Choose the right environment.
Your surroundings play a huge role in shaping your behavior. Get away from the environment that you are used to being distracted. Try studying in a library or a cozy café. Being around others who are working—even if they’re strangers—can subtly nudge you to focus. After all, someone as smart and efficient as you can absolutely channel that energy into your work!
4. Plan less, act more.
As a smart person, you probably love making plans. But here’s the thing: the perfect plan doesn’t exist. Spending hours crafting an elaborate one is just another form of procrastination—it’s overwhelming and drains your energy before you even start the task. Instead, focus on taking action NOW!
A Gentle Reminder
Procrastination doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It’s often rooted in things like childhood criticism or bad experiences with certain subjects in school. But none of that defines you now. You’re smart and capable—you already know you can achieve amazing things. Your brain is brilliant, but the key is transforming those ideas into action.
If you’ve missed opportunities before because of procrastination, don’t beat yourself up. Every small effort you make today builds toward a better tomorrow. You’ve got this!

Okay... Let me help *rubber glove slaping my wrist* *shove a cookie down Eclipse's throat*
(It'll give him the ability to read english until he has finished reading the pranks book)
Go on, my king... *chaos control away*
"Where are all these magic cookies even coming from...? Eh, whatever, PRANK TIME! WOAH! Thats...that's a lot of words. I'll do that later...when I have the motivation. I have the ability to read until I finish the book anyway..."

Writing Prompt #1
Sometime ago, you found an ancient relic. Strange runes detailed the sides, in a language you've never seen before. You thought it was cool, so you brought it home. About a year later, your estranged, distant relatives comes over for a visit. A strange noises begin emanating from the relic.

My friend died this week.
I came on here after so long to try and find his old blog but I can’t seem to find it.
I realize all my old posts are about wanting to die and being sad, but I just want to say that life is precious. Life may not always be what you hoped for, and I don’t know what anyone else is going through, but there will always be someone you leave behind. It doesn’t matter who you are. There will always be someone who wishes you were still around.
My friend was a wonderful person and he left us all behind. The happiness he brought us will remain forever, but we can only keep what we already have, we can no longer create new memories with him.
He’s gone.
We can’t tell him how much we’ll miss him. We can’t tell him how wonderful his presence is. We can’t tell him how much we will cherish every minute that we got to spend with him.
I can’t express how important your life is. It doesn’t matter how much you hate yourself or hate the world, there are things worth living for. Someone loves you, someone will miss you, someone appreciates you. Please don’t leave them behind.
I hope that you can find the time to cherish the relationships you have with others. You can reach out to people. You can ask someone how they’re doing. You can tell someone you appreciate the time you’ve spent together. You can reconnect with old friends. You can keep telling yourself that you have all the time in the world. You’ll talk to them again someday. You’ll bump into each other somewhere and chat. Stop waiting.
Your childhood friends will die someday.
Don’t let them die without reminding them how much they mean to you. Don’t let them feel forgotten. Don’t wait. Reach out now before it’s too late. Tell them you appreciate their existence and all the adventures you went on together. Tell them you remember all the fun you had. Tell them how important they are.
The last time I saw my friend was 5 years ago when I casually bumped into him at the store at 2am. Now he’s dead. I can’t talk to him now. I can’t say hi. I can’t reach out. I have to just accept that I let all my friendships slip away while I secluded myself. I am so full of regret and I can’t do anything about it. All I can do is reach out to the rest of my friend group, trying to correct my mistakes before they’re gone too.
Please reach out to the people you cherish. And please don’t leave those that you cherish behind.
