Since I’ve gotten a few questions about my original books and where to find them, I figured I should do an introduction/master post, because I’ve a whole heap of things I do.
I’m a polymath, a pain in the ass, a massive pain
If you’ve enjoyed my Solavellan meta and want to support me, I would be honoured. I’ve just been totally cleaned out by a gruelling and traumatic immigration process (that is ongoing), and honestly *any* support is an enormous help in getting back on my feet so my life in my home can…finally begin.
I’m a fantasy author of over 25 novels across several subgenres, but all of my books have a romantic element or are romances. I’m also an award-winning Gaelic singer and songwriter who has represented Scotland internationally twice and been invited to perform for our parliament’s 25th anniversary celebration.
I’ve been at this a long time, and I keep kind of getting knocked backwards onto my arse and am pretty exhausted! Here’s my erm…life’s work below the jump!
Books
If you want to read my current series as I write it, check out my Patreon! I’m back on my Solavellan bullshit with it: if Lavellan met Solas somehow both as Solas and simultaneously as rebellion-era, peak traumatised Dread Wolf…and had to reconcile those experiences on the fly as her people’s oppressors subject her to impossible trials to steal what remains of their Indigenous magic? Aye, that’s Wilder.
You can follow along for £1 a month on Patreon. It’s going to get very spicy.
My most recent published series is a Solavellan-inspired romantasy trilogy (complete!) that I wrote over the last five years of absolute panic that we wouldn’t get a happy ending.
Tumblr media
Complete trilogy!!!
Mutual pining
Souls bound across time and space
Big Dragon Age and Solavellan vibes
Banter!
“We shouldn’t” 👀
Low spice (honestly I kinda regret not making it spicier so might make some erm…bonus scenes at some point)
In KU/ebook and available in bespoke deluxe paperback from my own shopfront
Tumblr media
Elven gods and mortals romance episodic series where the gods are being punished by a greater power for being assholes and can only find redemption by winning the heart of their mortal soulmates 😌
Queer-norm world!
Book 1: m/f
Book 2: f/f
Book 3: enby/f
Book 4: m/f
In KU and ebook only; they’re just short lil guys
Tumblr media
Complete trilogy!
Spell-induced climate change, one land magically draining the resources from another, and those dead set on righting the wrongs (or making it worse 😳)
Giant sapient bats
Giant cats and those who bond with them and ride them
A land cut off from the world by an ancient curse
Ace rep!!!
Profound friendships and trust
Available in ebook, hardcover, and paperback
Tumblr media
Complete quartet!
Lots of snark
My earlier work but I’m still proud of it 🥹
Bi lead, f/f endgame
So many butts
Adorable demon hybrid lads who are very wholesome and also always naked
NANA THE BUNNY, best bunny
Available in ebook, hardcover, and paperback (and audio, narrated by the amazing Amber Benson of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame—she’s truly an absolute legend 😭!)
Tumblr media
Look to the Sun and A Hall of Keys and No Doors are both available in ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audio. Also narrated by the amazing Amber Benson!
Tumblr media
Two standalone YAs, both lightly paranormal
Non-binary autistic leads in both
Big themes of surviving and recovering from trauma
Sweet romance in each
Demi/grey ace rep in each
Will is obsessed with Solas just like me lmao
Target of banning in plenty of US states 🙃
Sam got nominated for a Nebula award 🥹
Available in ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audio (Sam is narrated by Allegra Verlezza, and Will by Vico Ortiz—yes, that Vico Ortiz!)
Tumblr media
Seonag and the Seawolves: free to read at Reactor Mag!
A Gaelic reimagining of a Green Man tale with a sea-based protector and their wolf guardians. Set in South Uist!
Long listed for a Hugo award 🥹
The Quiet: A tale of a woman who bridges worlds to seek out her lost sister in the face of an ancient threat. Has selkies!
Perchance to Dream: An m/m tale of Sleeping Beauty if the legends didn’t get it quite right and neither Aurora nor Phillip wanted anything to do with one another, beginning from the wake-up kiss
The Quiet and Perchance to Dream are both available in ebook and KU!
***
Beyond this, I have a whole series of LitRPG under another name that I’m toying with outing myself about.
Music
I also have a wee EP of demos of my original Gaelic songs and one translation of Once Upon a Dream over on Bandcamp. It’s a pay-what-you-want dealio!
Tumblr media
Art
You may have seen my lil Solavellan art going around! You can get it on a T-shirt in my shop, along with other wee bits and bobs I’ve painted.
Tumblr media
And, of course, if you want to just read my Solavellan long fic, you can do that here. 💕

#OTD in 1916 – Easter Rising | Irish patriots, Michael Mallin, Eamonn Ceannt, Cornelius “Con” Colbert and Sean Heuston are shot dead in Kilmainham Gaol.
Executions of Easter Rising Leaders continue by a British regime in Stonebreakers’ Yard at Kilmainham Gaol, completely insensitive to the fact it was creating numerous martyrs and generating an emotional calling cry for Irish rebellion that would culminate in the War of Independence. Shot dead on this day: Michael Mallin | Born in Co Dublin, he was a music teacher, devout Catholic and teetotaler.…

DWC May 2025 Day 4 - Dangerous/Tremendous
The grey-overcast forest outside Stonebreaker Hold hummed with small sounds, the howl of wolves, the chitter of dreadfangs, the soft brush of teromoth wings slicing through the mist. But what held Tycil’s attention was subtler, the faint shift in the grass when the warp stalker phased, vanishing to wherever it went when it wasn’t here.
Cracked stone roads snaked through the forest like arteries pumping out from Shattrath. It was along these veins that the reptiles would reappear, strike at unsuspecting travelers, and vanish again like phantoms.
Vaelsnipe, her brother, crouched behind a jagged crystal outcropping at the base of a tree, rifle at the ready, his gaze sweeping the sullen horizon. Beside him, Tycil drew a slow, quiet breath. “Smell that?” she whispered, her voice taut with the thrill of the hunt.
“Burned ozone,” he murmured back.
“Means it’s close.”
They had been together since the portal to the Outlands opened, two broken hearts, patched with the quiet balm of each other’s company. Hunting brought them closer still. This was when they were most alive, stalking a kill, back-to-back.
Vaelsnipe’s voice was a blade. “To your left.”
The phase hunter materialized in a shimmer, its four-legged reptilian frame low and tense. Ivory hide gleamed with amethyst stripes, and it let out a rasping hiss like sand on steel before it charged.
Tycil didn’t hesitate. She darted west toward a thick-barked tree, playing the bait. She always played bait now, ever since Arthas had taken everything, parents, husband, children. All that remained was her brother, and the cold plague of loss that clung to her like a second skin. Playing bait was her way of daring death to claim her. But she knew it wouldn’t, not while Vael had her back.
The beast lunged. A burst of speed flared through her, a cheetah’s spirit burning in her veins, and she surged ahead, outpacing the warp stalker.
“Tycil!” Vael’s voice cracked across the trees.
Too late.
Its jaws clamped around her thigh, its innate magic flickers fading through the creature’s form. She screamed, reaching out for her brother, expecting the shot that would save her.
She heard it.
The crack of the rifle.
And then the world split.
The phase hunter vanished, dragging her with it, into the space between.
Silence.
In the Nether, Tycil floated in a black void, consciousness slipping in and out like a weak signal. Pain pulsed up her leg, but it was the cold that truly sank its claws into her, not cold of temperature, but of meaning.
She blinked, trying to orient herself. Space rippled around her like liquid glass.
The phase hunter was gone.
She was alone. (@daily-writing-challenge) (@vaelsnipe )

talking bullshit about names
Me thinking about since Zaunites don't have names they could switch to patrinymic/matrinymic system. And that would mean things like.
Vi Vandersdottir. Or Vi Feliciasdottir.
Or Vi Vanderova.
Jinx Silcosdottir.
Ekko Benzoson/Benzosen.
(now picturing Vi being named Violet bint Vander ibn [somegrandpa] al Zaun in some AU XD)
They could also switch to a job system (ie Vander Stonebreaker, Silco Dealmaker ;))
Silco would name himself Silco Al Zaun in a heartbeat XD
I'm sure most people know the backstory that some jews having such recognizable names is because they didn't have names for a long time and then some european emperors forced them to get names so they picked names that sounded pretty and fancy (like Goldwater or Rosenstein).
I like to picture a word where this happens in Zaun where Piltover comes "okay, you now all have to pick second names for tax reasons" and Zaunites take the piss of out of them and pick names like Shitstinker or Arselicker just to force the tax people to say that out loud.
(btw, that is something that could totally be a plot in a Silco & Vander in the mines backstory that somebody tries to give them last names for payroll reasons and the Zaunites are just wtf and think it's stupid as fuck [I could totally picture young Silco give a rambling speech that names in Piltover are house names and it's insuting to ask people to pick a name when they are not rich enough to own a house. We'll pick names when you give us houses!])
[sidenote: while googling this I realized that I generally hadn't realized that Fitz as in Fitzgerald/Fitzroy is another patri/matrinym thing]

Hi there, I’m working on a, admittedly ambitious, fic in which Smaug joins the quest for Erebor (it’s a long story) but I was wondering how Smaug would be referred too by the Dwarves of Erebor?
After all, he didn’t exactly *tell* them his name while he was sacking Erebor so I wonder if he would’ve been given a name/title/curse in the meantime? Thank you so much 😊
Well met! An interesting question—though, in all honesty, I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that Smaug joins the Quest for Erebor (seeing as the main motivation behind that quest was, well… killing Smaug and reclaiming the Mountain).
You're absolutely right, though, that Smaug didn’t formally announce himself during the attack on Erebor in T.A. 2770. But even so, the Dwarves of Erebor likely did know his name—not only eventually, but quite possibly even beforehand.
🐉 Was Smaug’s name known?
Yes—almost certainly. Smaug was already considered a feared and known creature by the time of the attack. Though his exact origins are unknown, we know he was called “young” when he first appeared in Middle-earth’s records in T.A. 2770, and described as “old and strong” by T.A. 2941.
Given that the War of the Dwarves and Dragons spanned T.A. 2570–2589, Smaug would very likely have been born near or soon after that conflict—making him at least 180–200 years old at the time of Erebor’s fall. Still “young” by draconic standards. That timing makes it possible that older Dwarves—particularly those displaced from the Grey Mountains—had already heard of him, even if they hadn’t yet fought him directly.
After the sack of Erebor, his name would have spread rapidly. The survivors of Dale called the surrounding wasteland “The Desolation of Smaug”, and Smaug’s own ego ensures he likely proclaimed his name loudly and often. Dragons in Tolkien’s world are shameless self-mythologisers, after all.
Tumblr media
The Map of Erebor, clearly indicating the Dragon
🔤 What does Smaug mean?
Tolkien noted that the name Smaug comes from the old Germanic root smugan, “to squeeze through a hole.” This imagery—creeping, coiling, burrowing—suits dragons (or “worms”) perfectly. Earlier drafts of The Hobbit named the dragon Pryftan, a Welsh compound meaning “Worm of Fire.”
Interestingly, Smaug’s name in “true Dalish” was recorded as Trâgu. That root—trah-—is shared with Trahald, the Westron name of Sméagol. Trahald means “apt to creep into a hole”, and all these terms (Smaug, Sméagol, Trahald, Trâgu) are linguistically connected through ideas of sneaking, burrowing, and creeping. Even the Hobbit term smial (meaning “burrow”) belongs to the same semantic family.
🏔️ What would the Dwarves have called him?
As the Dwarves came to know the name Smaug, it’s unlikely they used it freely—and even more unlikely used it without bitterness, or further follow-up curses. Dwarves have a long tradition of bestowing grim titles and bitter epithets upon their enemies, especially those who brought about ruin or dishonour.
We do, in fact, have attested examples from the texts (Neo-Khuzdul translations are further below):
“Old Worm” – used by Balin in The Hobbit
“Worm of Dread” – sung by the Dwarves upon learning of Smaug’s death
“The Dragon” – used in The Quest of Erebor
“Smaug the Golden” – appears in Appendix A
Beyond that, Dwarves would surely have coined their own epithets, depending on context, or degree of loathing. Examples might include:
"The Worm of Fire" – ’Urmu ’Urs
"The Doom of Erebor" – Dumsu ’Urd
"Stonebreaker" – ’Abanukraf
"The Northern Curse" – Aklâfu Faham
"Gold-thief" – Uthrab Kidiz
These wouldn’t necessarily replace his name—but they allowed Dwarves to speak of the dragon without honouring him in any way.
Tumblr media
🪓 How would Smaug be rendered in Neo-Khuzdul?
While Dwarves closely guarded their language and carefully chose their moments to utter the names of their enemies, we can still deduce a likely phonological adaptation for Smaug:
Khuzdul does not allow initial consonant clusters like “Sm-”
The diphthong “au” does not exist, and would likely reduce to ô through crasis
A leading “u-” prefix mimics both the personified agent and superlative forms—which Smaug would have loved (let’s be honest)
Given that, the name would most likely be rendered as:
→ Usmôg
As a side note: had they adopted the Dalish name Trâgu, the Khuzdul form might have been Utrâg—but this runs into a semantic issue. The radicals TRG are attested in Khuzdul as referring to “beard.” As such, ‘Utrâg would more likely be interpreted as “greatest beards”, which is far too dignified for a dragon (especially this one), and certainly inappropriate. By contrast, the SMG radicals are unattested, making Usmôg both a cleaner and more fitting adaptation.
💬 Canonical Epithets (and Their Neo-Khuzdul Renderings)
Smaug, of course, had no shortage of titles for himself. In The Hobbit, we encounter several canonical epithets. If rendered in Neo-Khuzdul, they might look like:
Smaug the Golden → Usmôg Biriz (Note: we use Biriz for “golden” here, not Kidzul, which would suggest Smaug is made of gold, rather than merely golden in colour.)
Smaug the Impenetrable → Usmôg Binurzakablânul (lit. Smaug (the) Unpierceable)
Smaug the Terrible → Usmôg Gurud
Old Worm → ‘Urm Gamil
Worm of Dread → ‘Urmu Agrâd
The Dragon → Id-Uslukh or simply Uslukh (related to Urulókë in Quenya, meaning “fire-serpent” or “fire-dragon.”)
In short: yes, the Dwarves knew his name—but they also gave him others. Bitter. Hard-edged. In loss, they named him by what he destroyed, what he stole, and what he became.
Ever at your service, The Dwarrow Scholar

First full ref for one of Malefors General’s, General Jierdor. Used a lot of blocky shapes to help with designing him. From when I first drew him, barely looks different, other than the colors.
Info:
Name: Jierdor Stonebreaker
Gender: None (Prefers he/him)
Age: Over tens of thousands of years old
Height: 15.5ft (4.7m)
Background:
General Jierdor, The Siege Monger, Malefor’s toughest of the five generals he has. Known for his unyielding tenacity, and an unbreakable will, he has endured the most dangerous of battles. Wielding shields as both a defensive and offensive tool, barging through anything as a walking ram, decimating anything.
He is not only tough through his very hide, and the shields he wields with deadly use. He is also strategic and intelligent, making best use of the troops he leads, while being at the forefront leading an invasion.
History:
Years long before Spyro, among Malefor’s army Jierdor stood out as an unyielding shield-breaker, with an indomitable will many would be inspired by. However, he and his fellow shield-breaker were mocked for using a defensive tool as an offensive weapon. This prompted him to set out a mission to prove his and his kinds worth to Malefor, by ramming a city down.
This very act allowed him to be gifted and given the status of General by Malefor, along with four others for their own actions. It also made the shield-breakers become respected, which Jierdor stands very proud and prideful for that reason. His very talents would be used during Malefors war upon the realms before the apes were at Malefors side.
His efforts and authority led to many successful attacks, however there was one dragon who would halt him years before. Terrador, who proved to be an equal to Jierdor, which he would lose against, losing half of his right horn, and cracks upon his face. Years passed, he and the rest of the army would not be used for a while when the apes sided with Malefor.
However, as the years passed and when Malefor returned after his death and when the apes abandoned Malefor. He and the rest of the army would be employed once more against the entire realm. Reminding those who face him, that he will not stop as his will, will break everything.
Additional Info:
The very shields he uses are actually created from the very earth. They form underground when he slams his arms into it, creating a shield depending on the situation.
The shields he carries are far stronger than any shield, as the dark magic gifted to him allows them to be far more durable. To the point where cannon fire cannot break them easily.
His commanding and encouraging authority inspire the troops he leads, as a bestows a sense of morale.
He does not always rely on the shields he carries, as he also is skilled in unarmed combat, with strength equal against the toughest earth dragons.

#OTD in 1916 – Irish Patriots, Seán MacDiarmada and James Connolly are executed at Kilmainham Gaol.
The last executions of 1916 rebels are carried out. Ninety rebels were condemned to death. All but 15 were commuted to lengthy prison terms (most of whom were released in 1917). The executions were a watershed in Irish attitude to English rule. The vast majority of the Irish population begrudgingly accepted English rule and believed the Rising was an absurd venture. The execution of men who after…
