I know it's unrealistic but I need the antagonists of the Knuckles series if they have any connection to robotnik beyond stealing his tech to be jilted exes in the sense that robotnik ditched them for Stone. Like Stone is a jealous possessive henchman sure but I would find it fucking hilarious if we find out all three of them had their chance at robotnik's side and for some reason or another Robotnik just said nah my latte boy is better, fuck off.

Like the three in various ways running into Stone but instead of Stone getting jealous and pissy he's smug as shit because he won he got to stay robotnik picked him and they got kicked out.

I just want them to be jealous of Stone and Stone living for it.

I'm looking back at some screenshots of the predictions we made about the fate of Stobotnik, before the movies release.

And I sort of find it funny how most if the one I've stored is about "I swear if Stone dies, If Stone sacrifice himself, Robotnik if you HURT Stone..."

And the final result is actually a full 180 the other way.

Listen. If they're gonna bring Robotnik back from the dead again and again they'd better just show him growing old with Stone by his side.

Angsty thoughts but imagine if you will shadow finding Stone after returning to earth. Seeing the once so happy and lively man lost unsure broken in a way that shadow felt feels since Maria's death. And he worries. He worries because he doesn't see vengeance burning under that grief. He doesn't see a desire for revenge or rage at the world for taking who the former agent loved.

He just sees exhaustion. A soul deep exhaustion that shadow worries if he leaves now...if he leaves this man alone it will consume him until nothing is left but a hollow shell. So he decides to stay close. Stay nearby and be there for him in his time of grief in a way he wishes someone was for him when it happened.

And Stone tries to push him away. Tries everything and anything to make shadow leave him alone. But shadow still sees that exhaustion still sees how little Stone does if shadow doesn't push and prod still doesn't like the look the man sometimes gets in his eyes when the nights are dark and the remains of the explosion still glow in the nightsky. So he stays. He stays despite it all determined to be there for him.

And they grieve together. They grieve the ones they loved taken from them and it hurts and burns and its bitter but together...together it stings a little less.

Rough Au Explanation:

Shadow[19 y/o] wakes up in an abandoned G.U.N military base after being in chronostasis for 50 years after Maria's death. While attempting to escape said abandoned military base he finds a motorbike labeled as Dark Rider. After attempting to teach himself how to drive the bike he uses the motorbike to escape the base and the city[The city is really cyberpunk, picture a cooler toned and more lively New Yoke kinda area with clear hollywood inspo thrown in there. Eggman runs and owns all the casinos btw ;3]. Just outside of the city the old motorbike breaks down after sitting for so long, and Shadow is forced to go to a small rustic looking repair shop, Where he meets the 'owner' of the shop, Sonic[18 y/o]! He gets his bike fixed for free, bc Sonic got a big old crush on Shadow the moment he saw him, And ends up coming back there every so often when he needs a place to stay or some food. 2 years later, Shadow breaks into a G.U.N base to find some answers about what actually happened to Maria when he finds a small pink baby hedgehog in a Oh So familiar test tube, near some files stating that his DNA was used to create this little thing. He ends up panicking when he hears G.U.N soldiers coming and breaks the test tube taking the little hedgehog with him. In the dead of night in the middle of a rain storm, Shadow takes the little hedgehog with him to hide out at Sonic's shop. Since Sonic's little repair shop is legally owned by The Eggman, it's one of the least likely places for G.U.N to look for them. So poor Sonic wakes up to Shadow yelling at his door at 1 in the morning with a baby hedgehog tucked in his arms. Shadow comes up with a vague story to tell Sonic, to prevent him from finding out he's an experiment, about him "running away with his daughter from his abusive ex, who's trying to kill them after he tried to break up with her for cheating on him" [He does confirm that the kid is his kid in his story] Sonic lets them in and takes them to the second floor of the repair shop where his living area is. He wraps Shadow and Amy up in a couple towels before running off to buy baby formula and diapers. Once he comes back he makes a bottle for Amy since she had started crying from the cold rain. Sonic sits next to Shadow on the couch while handing him the bottle to feed Amy. After Amy stopped crying and falls asleep, Shadow ends up falling asleep as well, resting his head on Sonic's shoulder.

Fellas, after the events of Sonic 3, do we think Shadow visits Stone?

I enjoyed their small interactions in the movie and hope it would be expanded (like in an epilogue comic or something)

I headcanon Shadow is doing a whole Lone Ranger thing since the ending of Sonic 3, trying to figure out what he can do since he's awake.

But occasionally he visits Stone to talk to him, make and eat guac together, judging modern earth shows and just...chill together. Perhaps mourn and trauma dump together. Like, Stone would share his experience from working with Robotnik (and his 'secret' admiration/crush for the man) and Shadow shares his of Maria.

Stone listening to Shadows stories then makes him feel like he's able to learn more about what Robotnik's lost family and his lost cousin. "Would they have gotten along with each other? Would the doctor have turned out different if he was raised alongside his cousin?" kind of thoughts.
