Novena to Sto. Niño (9th day)
ACT OF CONTRITION PETITION Oh merciful Jesus! You have said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life!”; we beseech you to guide us on our way to heaven so that we may be able to surmount all the difficulties and obstacles we will encounter in this deceptive world. Grant to us also the virtue of hope so that we will always thirst for the heavenly things and for your glory. This we ask you in…

Reblog to reject white Jesus and pray to Señor Santo Niño aka senior Saint boy
#Tbh sinulog has so many pagan elements#And the stories concerning sto Niño are also very pagan if u exclude the Spanish supposedly bringing the statue over#It's just really obvious that they made this child version of Jesus to convert more people#Because if I was a precolonial Filipino wouldn't fucking pray to a guy nailed to a piece of wood with multiple injuries#I'm willing to create my own branch of religion where the only requirement is to not be an asshole as much as you can

THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SANTO NIÑO (Sto. Niño) The Ultimate Crown Jewel of Filipino Devotion Feast Day: Third Sunday of January
Pit Señor! The feast of the Santo Niño is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of January.
On April 14, 1521, the image of the Holy Child was presented to the wife of Rajah Humabon (later named Don Carlos), Hara Humamay (later named Queen Juana of Cebu) by Ferdinand Magellan after her baptism. On the same day, 800 Cebuanos were also baptized.
The Italian scholar and chronicler of the expedition, Antonio Pigafetta wrote: 'After dinner, Fr. Pedro Valderrama (the fleet chaplain) and some others went ashore to baptize the queen. We conducted her to the platform and she was made to sit on a cushion. I showed her an image of Our Lady, a very beautiful wooden Child Jesus and a cross. After her baptism, she asked us to give her the little Child Jesus to keep in place of her idols.'
After Magellan's death days later on April 27th, and the massacre of 27 other Spaniards by the Cebuanos, the survivors hurriedly embarked and continued their voyage to Spain. For more than four decades (40 years), the cross and the Santo Niño left behind by Magellan remained as silent witnesses of Jesus Christ among the Filipinos.
The Spaniards came back to the Philippines in 1565, under the command of Gen. Miguel López de Legazpi. A soldier of the expedition, Juan Camus, found the image of the Santo Niño inside the house of a native.
This was attested by Fr. Andres de Urdaneta, the Augustinian chronicler of the expedition, and many other witnesses. The image has been venerated by the Filipinos ever since, and it is preserved at the magnificent Basilica del Santo Niño (formally called Basílica Menor del Santo Niño de Cebú or Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebú) in Cebu. Today, the original image is permanently encased behind bulletproof glass inside its chapel.
The wooden statue of the Child King, of the style of those made in Belgium, synthesizes the childhood and the kingship of Christ.
The King of the Universe, who became a little child, keeps telling us in the Holy Gospel according to Matthew: 'Unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'

THE CHILD IN US
January 21, 2024 – Feast of the Sto. Niño Is. 9:1-6; Ps 98; Eph 1:3-6,15-18; Mk 10:13-16 What kind of a child do we have in our heart? We may not be a child physically, but we may still ack like a child. To act like a child does not necessarily connote negative sides. Recognizing the child in us will surely make us more aware of who we are, the intentions of our heart, the kind of dream and…

Three robbers arrested in Parañaque City
Three robbers arrested in Parañaque City
Is your home secure and are your valuables safe? I had to ask that question because of a recent robbery that happened in the city of Parañaque. According to Manila Bulletin news report, three people were arrested for robbing a home. Over P1 million worth of cash and jewelry were missing, and only a minority of that was recovered. To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the…

Chef Missa x Shapeshifter-Crow Phil AU.
(Just hear me out)
Missa is a single father looking to be a professional chef, moving to France to work in his idol's restaurant. He takes his daughter, takes his suitcases and moves to Paris, France to fulfill his dreams.
Phil is an ex-fighter who needs a change and get away from everything after a dramatic event (no spoiler) so when he receives an invitation from his brother in arms, Etoiles, to stay with him in France for a while he does not hesitate to accept.
His son Chayanne has trouble adjusting to his new life due to his selective mutism, fortunately Tallulah (Not tula) and Chayanne become friends at school.
Pissa basically know each other through their children.
Time skip to Tallulah finding out that Chayanne likes cooking, and it just so happens that his dad is el mejor chef del mundo! (She says) Missa starts giving cooking classes to Chayanne (it has nothing to do with him wanting to get closer to Phil, nope, absolutely not, he could never ever thought about that, he only does it because he cares about Chay//and his father)
Missa tries to play it cool and suave for Phil which leads to a lot of silly cartoon situations.
Missa and Phil get distracted by cooking, more smoke than normal starts coming out but they are so caught up in their flirting that they don't notice. Missa: Is it hotter here or is it just me?? Phil laughs, looks into his eyes, into his lips and back into his eyes, and slowly approaches, so slowly and Missa's heart almost sto- Until suddenly a blast of dry ice hits them rigth in their faces. Chayanne came back from whatever he was going to do, and found a tower of smoke! What happened!? …Neither Phil nor Missa can answer that. A bit because they are covered in dry ice and another bit because no mames, what a shame.
Jump to Missa, he's feeling homesick and unsure of his abilities. Tallulah has a fever and Missa is too worried.
The cooking classes stop for a few days.
Until a crow suddenly crosses through his window. That should scare him, his daughter is sick! And crows don't exactly prophesy health.
But he doesn't find himself able to chase away the creature that looks almost as worried as Missas feels. If crows had faces he would say that he frowns when he sees the girl. This crow seems to be really used to humans or something because he allows himself to be petted by Tallulah as if he were a cat, his feathers fluff up and rumble as if he were almost purring in his daughter's hands, her tired face lights up cuz of something that It's not the fever.
He decides to leave them alone.
Since that day the crow visits them more often almost like a family pet, he always comes and goes at night and always seems to be there when they need him most.

𝑻𝒐𝒑 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒕-𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒆𝒃𝒖: "𝑨 𝑮𝒖𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉"
Cebu, known as the "Queen City of the South," is a beautiful island province in the Philippines that captivates visitors with its mix of rich history, stunning beaches, unique festivals, and vibrant urban culture. Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a history enthusiast, or a beach lover, Cebu has something for everyone. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the best places to visit in Cebu, perfect for travelers looking to experience the island’s diverse attractions.
CEBU TAOIST TEMPLE
The Cebu Taoist Temple is a beautiful and serene destination located in the hills of Beverly Hills Subdivision in Cebu City. Built in 1972 by Cebu’s Chinese community, the temple stands as a symbol of their deep-rooted heritage and spiritual presence in the region. Unlike most temples in the Philippines, the Cebu Taoist Temple is open to visitors of all faiths, offering a welcoming space for those interested in Taoism or simply looking to experience the temple's tranquil environment.
TEMPLE OF LEAH
The Temple of Leah is a grand, Greco-Roman-inspired structure located in the hills of Busay, Cebu City. Built in 2012, the temple was commissioned by Teodorico Adarna as a tribute to his late wife, Leah Villa Albino-Adarna, symbolizing his enduring love and devotion to her. Often referred to as "Cebu's Taj Mahal," the temple has since become a popular tourist attraction due to its unique architecture and romantic backstory.
KAWASAN FALLS
Kawasan Falls is one of Cebu’s most famous natural attractions, located in the lush mountains of Badian, about 130 kilometers south of Cebu City. This stunning waterfall is known for its multi-tiered cascades, with water that appears strikingly turquoise, flowing into natural pools surrounded by lush greenery. The falls consist of three main levels, each with its own scenic pools, and are perfect for swimming, bamboo rafting, and cliff diving.
OSLOB WHALE SHARKS
Oslob, a coastal town in southern Cebu, is renowned worldwide for its unique whale shark-watching experience. Visitors from around the globe come to Oslob to swim and snorkel with these gentle giants, known locally as butanding. Whale sharks, the largest fish in the world, are peaceful creatures and feed on plankton, making them safe to observe up close.
Oslob Municipality is known for its old churches and beautiful beaches, but it has become more popular because of the gentle giants the Whale Sharks. Local fishermen would interact with the whale sharks by feeding them, until many tourists began to arrive in Oslob to see the whale sharks being fed. As a result, these tourists snorkeled or dived with the whale sharks. Oslob Whale Shark watching is one of the top bucket lists of tourists who visit Cebu because of the rare experience. Most noteworthy, whenever you have a close encounter with the Whale Sharks, it is not allowed to touch them.
MAGELLAN’S CROSS
King of Spain Charles 1 chose navigator Ferdinand Magellan to look for the “Spice Islands.” In doing so, Magellan was able to cross the globe and eventually landed in the Philippines in 1521. Specifically, he made his step in Cebu on March 15, 1521.
Magellan’s Cross is one of the most historically significant landmarks in Cebu City and a symbol of the Philippines’ colonial past. Planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, the cross commemorates the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines, marking the beginning of Spanish influence in the archipelago. This event is considered a milestone in Philippine history, as it led to widespread conversion and the establishment of Catholicism across the islands.
BASILICA DEL STO. NIÑO
The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, often simply referred to as the Santo Niño Basilica, is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines and one of Cebu’s most important religious landmarks. Located in Cebu City, this basilica dates back to 1565 when Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and his men discovered an image of the Santo Niño (Holy Child) inside a village hut that had survived a fire. This image, believed to be a gift from Ferdinand Magellan to Queen Juana in 1521, is considered miraculous and has since become a revered symbol of faith for Cebuanos and Filipinos.
The basilica is also the heart of the annual Sinulog Festival, held every January, which celebrates the Santo Niño with vibrant street parades, traditional dances, and a solemn procession. This grand festival brings thousands of pilgrims and tourists to Cebu each year, underscoring the deep devotion of the people to the Santo Niño. Visiting the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño offers not only a historical experience but also a spiritual one, making it a must-see for anyone exploring Cebu.
THE HERITAGE OF CEBU MONUMENT
The Heritage of Cebu Monument is a striking landmark located in Cebu City's historic Parian district, depicting key moments and figures in Cebu’s rich history. Built from 1997 to 2000 under the direction of Cebuano artist Eduardo Castrillo, this monument is a detailed, multi-faceted sculpture crafted from concrete, bronze, brass, and steel. It serves as a historical tableau showcasing Cebu’s journey from pre-colonial times through the Spanish and American colonial periods, right up to modern times.
The monument features scenes that include Magellan’s arrival in Cebu, the baptism of Rajah Humabon and Queen Juana, and the Battle of Mactan where native chieftain Lapu-Lapu famously defeated Magellan. It also includes representations of significant structures such as the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño and the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, blending Cebu’s rich spiritual heritage with its cultural history.
The sculpting began in July 1997 and was completed in December 2000. The features of the monument include Christian conversions, Spanish occupation, battle against foreign colonizer, a prominent Christian figure, and a certain Philippine president.
PESCADOR ISLAND
Pescador Island, located off the coast of Moalboal in Cebu, is a premier destination for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. This small island is surrounded by vibrant coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and an abundance of marine life, making it one of the best diving spots in the Philippines. Known for its dramatic underwater cliffs, the Pescador Cathedral, a large, cavernous area that divers can explore, is a particular highlight, offering an unforgettable underwater experience.
Another popular tourist attraction in this location is the Sardine Run. You can swim with millions of Sardines (also known as Herring), which is impressive. Therefore, brace yourself to experience the magnificent beauty of the underwater.

i had this saved as 'slightly menacing sto. niño art'
twitter
[Image Description: A drawing of a young girl wearing a maria clara and holding a sto. niño figure. She wears spiky halo bent out of shape, a veil, black skirt with torn edges stylized as curling tendrils. Her sleeves are edged with embroidery and rows of beads, also fraying and coming loose.
She wears a large, flared panuelo similar in shape to the red cape of the sto. niño figure she has in her lap. The small statue is holding a scepter and orb. Its crown has a small, sharp cross on top, which has cut two long gashes across the girl's cheek and eye. Blood flows from the wounds and drips down the girl's chin. /end ID]

January 15 | Feast of the Santo Niño (Sto. Niño)
"Children are first in God's kingdom because of their generosity and spontaneity, easily sensing the needs of others. In other words, to possess the heart of a child does not mean being simply dependent on others but also actively participating in mission. Adults can do this only, if they imitate the generosity of children. Are children capable of intense holiness? As first citizens in God's kingdom, they surely can be shining models of holiness. The greatest sinners and criminals on our planet are adults. Children can only be innocent or saintly." -Fr. Tim Melliza, SSP
Despite there's a temporary power outage a few hours ago (due to a damaged transformer from nearby town), I have the chance to shot at this picture. Anyways, on to the description after the jump.

Weekend Escapes✨
Some people think that being a working student is quite hard, especially in handling our precious time and schedules. I always manage my schedule every day starting with waking up early at 4 am up to lunchtime for my morning work shift then going straight ahead into my classes then getting home by 9 in the evening. This kind of schedule may be tough and tiring but always remember that you still need to rest especially on weekends, I will show you how I spend my rest days after a few days of no classes.
St. John Bosco Parish Church-Makati City, April 7, 2024
It all started last Sunday wherein I put my rest day into Lord’s Day, a day where I spent my whole day listening to the words of God. I was invited to attend a family recollection by one of my youth mates, it is supposed to be an exclusive event for a family but instead, they also invited their friends in able to celebrate and meditate.
McDonald’s Bahayang Pag-asa, Molino 3 Bacoor City, April 8, 2024
Another day passed and my rest day ended a few hours ago, I already started my day going to work. It’s still dark outside but I needed to come to work in able to fund my educational expenses. After 8 long hours of my shift, I still needed to come home early as there were some school activities that I needed to finish already.
Sto. Niño De Molino Parish Church, Molino 3 Bacoor City, April 9, 2024
Since this day is a holiday my schedule from work got a little bit changed making my shift started from lunchtime up to late afternoon. As I was about to go home, I just felt some urge to walk for a while before I got home and my feet brought me into one of my favorite churches nearby. It just happens that there is a mass ongoing.
McDonald’s Salawag, Salawag Dasmariñas City, April 10, 2024
After a tiring day of work and school activities, I just decided to visit the nearest McDonald’s from my home to order some iced coffee and burgers in able to cheer up myself after a tiring day. The days of having no classes are coming to an end, midterms are coming also and I want to prepare myself again for another battle for the next few days.
