On the nights when the moon can’t be seen, that’s when it’s hardest. Past the witching hour but miles from false dawn, when the dew is gathering on the cornstalks and the fireflies have gone to bed. When it’s the quiet you can feel in your bones and you can’t get enough air into your lungs. When you part your lips helplessly in the darkness, desperate to get the leaden thing living between your ribs out, but instead the loneliness eases itself in, unfurls itself against your tongue and licks behind your incisors, unwilling to wait for permission. It pushes past your molars slowly, stretches your jaw wide and you don’t want this, not the way it’s being offered, but it is relentless and maybe you deserve this anyway, so you surrender to the inevitability and relax your throat as it glides in and down, past every reflex that makes you want to choke until it nestles next to the dense weight under your breastbone.

It consumes and simultaneously spits you out, swallows you whole and then ejects you up and out into the wide expanse of sky above, a sad pathetic mist of nobody dreams and elsewhere wishes.

And with each inhale you expand, the space inside you growing, each breath like a shimmer-fragile soap bubble, making you lighter and thinner until you feel you could float up and away, a lost helium balloon drifting into the stratosphere. Something without mass, formless, a radio signal emanating out into the vasty nothing, fragmenting and disintegrating until it can’t recall that it once was a transmission, a soul reaching out blindly in the dark to feel less alone.

Fanfiction Writer Asks 

5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why? 

Hmmm, this is a difficult one, because on the one hand I would choose “The Courtship of Daisy and Junior” simply because it’s the one I actually finished, but on the other hand “A Chance Engagement” has, for me personally, been the most fun to write. 

If we’re including ALL fics, even the ones not up on AO3, then my favourite multi-chaptered fic is one I haven’t finished or published yet. It’s the Carver/Merrill Modern!AU one called “How To Push Up A Daisy” set in a London gym owned by Garrett Hawke. I… really need to publish that one! 

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why? 

Carver Hawke, simply because I find him so easy to write. I can hear his voice in my head so clearly, and I feel like I can even feel his reactions as if they were my own. 

I can’t write characters that I can’t “hear” in my own head (which has nothing to do with their voice actors or accents etc – Merrill’s Welsh accent is very familiar to me as a Brit, so her actual voice or accent isn’t a problem; but it’s still much harder to “hear” what she might say or how she might react in a certain situation. That said, at least I can “hear” her to some extent, which is why I can attempt to write her – there are some characters I can’t “hear” at all). 

45) What spurs you on during the writing process? 

The same thing that spurs me on while working – having some sort of external accountability, whether that is a deadline or simply promising someone that I would finish a fic for them. I hate leaving things undone or unfinished, and yet I am really bad at finishing things I start (and I start LOADS of things that I don’t finish, and I hate that I do that).

what sort of data are you collecting?

Currently sections are:

Schedule stuff: when I woke up, when I am (planning on) going to sleep, did I work/go to school/do research lab work

Diet and Health: Did I eat meals/drink enough water/was it healthy? Did I do any sort of physical activity?

Habits and Tasks: Daily habit tracker, did I do anything to intentionally relax, how productive was I

Feelings and thoughts: How manic or depressive I feel, how controlled I felt, and other feelings things I need to get better at paying attention to

Extra stuff: anything notable, any comments to my future self who might be reading this (literally anything, ideas, suggestions of correlations to look at, etc)

It sounds like a lot but in google forms it’ll take me like 5-10 minutes a night to fill out so hopefully it’ll be pretty easy. Also all sections include a generic “comments” part where I can say anything extra.
