Alright, my babies, as it is now officially October, it is not only Halloween month, but it is the start of the annual FIBER ARTS FRENZY, A time when we fiber artists have to officially acknowledge the holidays have just hitched a ride on the Spaceball 1 and is coming at us at Ludicrous Speed. (If you don't get the reference your parents did not raise you right, and you have my sympathies.)

And, when I say holidays, I mean ALL of them. Why so many cultures and religions were so inconsiderate as to bunch them all up at the same time of year so we fiber artists have to scramble, wail, and curse the heavens, I'll never know.

At least we have each other.

So, to my fellow fiber artists I say: Y'ALL START YOUR ENGINES.

To the people in fiber artists' lives during this frantic time: You best have comfort, understanding, support, and a sturdy sense of survival ready, because your loved one is about to try to Make All The Things.

HELLO HI HELLO I AM!!! RECOVERING CURRENTLY!!!!

So I haven't posted in a small moment and planned to get myself going again soon but right now I am recovering from an accident (I won't get into the nitty gritty) that has left me quite shaken. FIRST OFF I AM OKAY! Minor injuries so nothing alarming I am physically fine besides being sore for a bit and some scrapes and bruises that are still healing, including my arms which is making drawing a bit difficult. I'm slowly getting better but cant really draw for long periods and honestly I might not draw much for a bit till I feel better both physically and mentally. its the mentally part that might take some time. But I'm resting, rest assured!

ANYWAY this is more just an update cause I know i've been a lil absent. ESPECIALLY after this accident. I'm not abandoning the blog by any means, def still check on tumblr but couldn't seem to muster the energy to interact with much at the moment as my brain is a little rattled up.

I hope yall are all okay! I hope your days are bright and yall are taking care of yourselves!

Stitches and Sentences Sunday

Thanks for the tags @martsonmars and @artsyunderstudy. I loved reading your WIP snips. As always, such delicious delicious words from both of you.

This is a long update with video and some mild NSFW, so I am slapping everything under the cut. Enjoy!

STITCHES I resolved to take it easy in the new year, so I have no big doll projects on the horizon. I've just been slowly plugging away at MRB Simon as I sat on planes and in airports for hours on end this break.

But Monica, didn't you make him for COC? Well, yes and no...

As soon as I started making things for COC, I realized the only way to make the project sustainable was to create what I now call "base Simon" and "base Baz." These consisted of a head, torso, and legs. Then, depending on the position required, sometimes I swapped out the arms (on one occasion the legs), and I always changed the clothing and/or accessories. As a result, MRB Simon was actually ONLY arms and some hasty pipe cleaner flowers.

After wrapping up the last post, I cleaned up the CHAOS that had exploded in my bedroom and the little disembodied arms sitting on my desk began haunting me. So, I decided to complete MRB Simon. Here he is in all his naked glory.

I would like to add the disclaimer that I didn't know anything about embroidery before this. Truly. I taught myself three simple stitches in one night from youtube just to have these arms made in time for COC. So, given that, I am pretty happy with how he's turned out. I am still waiting on shoes and a few accessories to arrive, but once he is finished, I'll give him his own dedicated post and mail him off to @rimeswithpurple as a thank you for all of her help with my COC Watford map.

SENTENCES As I said, I was trying to take it easy. Not so much a resolution as what I needed after all the madness. However, almost as soon as I made the decision, I was struck by creative lightning. I've learned that you never walk away from inspiration, so I've cranked out almost all of my EGF fic already and it is in the hands of my trusty forever beta.

I have nothing I want to preview just yet because it is the filthiest thing I have ever written while also not being very filthy at all??? I don't know how else to explain it then to share the comment I left @thewholelemon on my doc.

Perhaps I will feel brave enough to share more in upcoming weeks. Since it was inspired by a slutty doll accessory I stumbled upon and have since commissioned for one of my dolls, I may also illustrate my own fic. We'll see.

It's Spooky Month; therefore, it's officially time for:

AUNTIE KAMI'S THE DO'S AND DON'T'S FOR FIBER ARTISTS AND THOSE WHO LOVE THEM DURING THIS MOST AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH TIME OF THE YEAR:

PART ONE, For Fiber Artists:

(Most of these will have been said before, but they bear repeating because a year is enough time for people to forget why their beloved fiber artist has now lost their damn senses once again.)

DON'T Work Through Pain: If you're starting to hurt, STOP. Every single one of us exist in an art that is a repetitive motion injury in the works. If you start to feel discomfort, STOP. I don't care if you're in the middle of the row, that's why the gods of fiber created stitch markers! Repetitive motion injury will take your art from you. Don't let it.

DO Stretches For Your Hands And Wrists: As I said above, we are nothing but walking repetitive stress injuries. There are lots of resources out there on how to stretch your hands and wrists. DO THEM EVERY HOUR. DO NOT SKIMP ON THEM. IF YOU TRY TO WRIGGLE OUT OF IT, I'LL BLESS YOUR HEART WITHIN AN INCH OF YOUR LIFE. (Southern people understand this curse.)

DON'T Ignore Your Bladder: Do you really want to explain to your doctor that your URI might be because you wanted to see how many rows you could finish before your bladder bursts? Look, yarn/thread/etc. chicken is one thing, but bladder chicken is just not acceptable.

DO HYDRATE: I don't care how you do it. Just do it! Look at it as turning your bladder into an internal alarm clock so you'll take breaks. (see above)

DON'T Assume Your Non-Fiber Oriented Loved Ones Are Aware Of Anything You're Doing: All they see is you are Mr. Hyde now. You are the Dark Side. You are the Thing That Snarls And Sometimes Cries. If they are hiding under the furniture, they are just giving you some space. They still love you...they just want to be out of the blast radius.

DO Feel Free To Maim And/Or Hunt Anyone For Sport Who Calls Your Art "Grandma Craft": Grandmas (and Grandpas) created fucking art and deserve fucking vindication. I suggest the use of your art as new and adventurous ways in Social Correction. Have fun!
