Introducing... Kugi Haruno!

She may not be a shinobi, but she shows her fiery Konoha spirit through her music.

When Kugi was a child, she was often sick. He weak physique prevented her from enrolling in the Ninja Academy, which greatly upset her, since many kids of her generation, including her cousin, Sakura, were following that path.

After witnessing a beautiful performance by a travelling Guzheng player, she decided she couldn't keep moping about not being a ninja, and began learning the instrument at 12 years old to channel her feelings somewhere productive.

She continued practicing over the years, but her big break in her music career happened during the first anniversary of the 4th Shinobi World War, where thanks to Sakura's endorsement, she got to play in front of all of Konoha and the Kages and things only got crazier from there.

This is her design in Boruto! I chose to make her a Haruno cause aside from Sakura and her parents we don't get to see anyone from the clan!

As for why I chose for her not to be a ninja... idk I wanted to explore the Naruto world through the eyes of a regular person, since there's so many ninjas in the universe already dgfhjd

atla live action thoughts: episode 2

things i liked:

love, love, love the depth they're adding to suki here. it feels as though they've drawn on the bits we get from the original and deepened it - it makes total sense that suki would feel stifled after having been trapped on kyoshi her whole life, and it adds more weight to her being inspired by sokka to leave kyoshi and go to ba sing se in the future

really enjoyed maria zhang's performance as suki. she brings the fierce strength, but there's also a softness and vulnerability to how she plays the character that's really nice to see

as much as i love suki kicking the sexism out of sokka, toning down the overt misogyny was a good idea, especially since it pretty much disappears from sokka's arc after this episode. i think they did a good job addressing the spirit of the original in having sokka try and show off to suki only to be severely humbled and still choosing to better himself by going back to learn from her

aang and katara laughing at sokka's horrendous flirting... biblically accurate book 1 trio dynamic

i wasn't sold on iroh in the first episode but paul sun-hyung lee 100% won me over here. the scene where he tries to convince zuko to eat quailpole egg felt right out of the cartoon lmao. i do like that this iroh seems to be trying to steer zuko to the right path earlier and more obviously

thank GOD aang still seems to be affected by what happened at the southern air temple. i love the scene where he was hesitant to train because the only person he'd ever trained with was gyatso. going from discovering genocide to riding the unagi was always a major tonal whiplash in the cartoon and it barely worked in animation so i'm glad they're giving aang's trauma the weight and respect it deserves in live action

the action and bending continue to impress, as do the visuals and cinematography. the show is just so visually beautiful to watch and it feels like a fantasy world take notes percy jackson

things i disliked/am conflicted about:

don't really get why we're delving into kyoshi so deeply here. it's not a bad change but neither do i see the need for it when we could've spent the time on other things. if anything, the avatar who should be more fleshed out at this point in the story is roku

katara receiving the waterbending scroll from gran-gran instead of stealing it... i get it, but i also don't love it. it really spoke to katara's desperation and will to become a waterbender that she stole from pirates just to get a chance to learn, and it also highlights the tragedy of what happened to the southern water tribe benders that she had not a shred of her culture or heritage left to guide her

i don't think sukka had to be pushed so heavily in this episode lmao. once or twice was fine, but it was starting to get a little cringe by the end. also not a fan of them kissing at this stage, especially if they're keeping the yue/sokka romance. maria and ian do have pretty good chemistry though

why are we going to the north pole because aang had a vision of them being in trouble?? wasn't needing to learn waterbending enough?? i don't mind them foreshadowing the ending battle but aang needing to learn the elements is the driving force of the show and it doesn't feel like we're getting that here

why is zhao... like that. there is no WAY animated zhao would've ever proposed working with zuko. this zhao feels a lot more like a long feng or a littlefinger than the reckless, hot-headed original who was meant to be a foil to zuko. the whole reason for introducing zhao is to show us that zuko is not the worst of the fire nation by a long shot, but between the two in the live action zuko still feels like the more unlikeable one and that's worrying. i hope we're still getting the zuko v zhao agni kai bc i have no idea where this storyline is heading

aang can only talk to the past avatars in the avatar's shrine? i can foresee this causing issues later on in book 2 and 3, if they happen

i'm guessing the zuko/katara "fight" here is supposed to replace the "i'll save you with the pirates" (RIP you were always gonna be too iconic for netflix) but it just feels out of place. what do we really get from this scene that we didn't know before? in the original scene, this is the moment we see katara master a new waterbending move AND use it in a fight but she's already bending earlier in the episode so it doesn't have the same effect. zuko seeming ready to burn katara while she's cowering and defeated also doesn't feel like something zuko would do. the dude spared zhao, of all people.

I had planned on doing some art with Jaiden since she’s aro-ace, but I didn’t have any ideas which is why it took so long. I decided I wanted to take inspiration from the latino culture of the server and find some salsa dancing poses. It might not be exactly salsa, but it’s still dancing, so I take what I can get

I think my favorite details are the line art as well as the shading. I wasn’t planning on making it as dark, but then I fell in love with it and kept it. I’m really proud of the over all turn-out of the drawing, so yeah lmao

Jaiden video made me realize that I was asexual and that I was on the spectrum of being aromantic, and she did so while making me laugh and cringe from memories of school that were similar to her own. I’m not gonna go on and try to say that she’s under-appreciated or underrated, but I will say that I have heard about the controversy around that video, and I honestly don’t understand why it exists. Jaiden is one of the least controversial content creators ever, and her coming out video was focused more around love than sexual preference whatsoever. She has an impressive way of covering serious topic in a funny and light-hearted way, and I honestly admire her for it.

I know this is late, but I hope everyone’s been having a great pride month. Most importantly—I hope everyone’s staying safe. I understand that not everyone has an excepting environment (Hell, made an alternative coloring for this drawing so I could show my mom without it turning into a deep conversation lmao) but I hope you at least have friends that accept you. Always remember: You are valid and you are loved.

Life was full with guilty pleasures. It could be a movie, a TV show, a food, even a celebrity. Y/N’s guilty pleasure was Twilight. She wasn’t sure why, but there was something about those movies that made her feel all blissful and excited, like she was a teenager all over again. And she enjoyed that.

Enjoyable things was exactly what she needed in order to not lose her mind during lockdown. Two months in and Y/N thought there was nothing else she could do that she hasn’t done already, so it was safe to say she was starting to feel a little trapped

One afternoon, Harry was out getting groceries and some other things they needed for the house and Y/N was just chilling in the living room, waiting for him to come back. As she scrolled down her instagram, she received a message from one of her cousins. It was just an inside joke about how they thought vampires were so cool when they were younger, and as she giggled, her brain clicked.

I wanna watch twilight. She thought.

Without giving it a second thought, Y/N turned on the TV and searched for the movies on Netflix. Deciding she’d watch the first one, she got comfortable on the couch before pressing play.

You see, everybody would agree the first movie of the saga was poorly edited and overall not that great, and although she’d cringe a lot during it, it was hilarious to watch years after it went out.

Y/N was so into the movie, almost drooling over Robert Pattinson, that she didn’t even hear Harry open the front door. “Babe?! I’m home!”

Harry’s voice snapped her out of her focus on the movie. “In the living room!” she answered. The curly-haired man gave her a dimpled smile before running upstairs to take a quick shower. Every time one of them went out of the house, they’d strip out of their clothes and take a shower in one of the guest bathrooms as a precaution.

He came back around twenty minutes later to put the groceries away and after doing so, he went to the couch and left himself fall next to his girlfriend making a ‘plop’ noise. “What are you watching?”

“Twilight.” She said, not taking her eyes off the screen but moving closer to Harry. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, letting her fingers play with his hand without paying much attention.

“The one about the vampires?” He chuckled.

“Yeah, did you ever watch it?” she finally turned to look at him. For a split second he thought about teasing her about watching cringy 2008 cliché movies, but he noticed the way her eyes were light up with excitement, so he decided to shut up.

“I watched the first one, but because of Gemma.” He said. “But never watched the other ones. There’s other ones, right?”

“There’s five of them, and we’re watching them all.”

“Are we now?” He asked, squeezing her a little.

“You just said you’ve never watched the rest, you bet your ass we’ll watch them now.”

“Ugh, fine. Just because I love you.” He cupped her face with his free hand, forcing her to look at him. He planted a sweet kiss on the top of her nose before letting her eyes focus on the screen again.

To be honest, Harry couldn’t care less about what they were watching, but what he did love was the comments Y/N would make during it. She’d throw jokes, make fun of the character’s choices or mannerisms and while some people find it annoying when a person couldn’t shut up during movies, Harry happened to love that about her. He thought that without those little comments here and there, he’d die of boredom.

“Edwards is so cute!” She nearly squealed. “I swear to god he was like, the love of my life when I was fourteen.”

“I think I like the Jacob guy better.” He stated.

“No, you don’t. He gets annoying in the next ones so be prepared.” They kept watching in silence, until Y/N’s favorite scene came out. “God, this was such a cultural reset.”

“Babe, they’re playing… baseball.”

“Iconic.”

Harry couldn’t help but laugh at the last scene of Bella and Edwards dancing at prom. “Holy shit, that’s awkward babe.”

The first movie ended and Y/N was quick to put the second one and this time, Harry paid a little more attention because he hasn’t seen it before.

“Oh my god, why would he throw her to the freaking wall when he could’ve just pushed the other dude out of the way.” He said.

“Am I right? That was so dramatic.”

They reached the scene where Edward leaves Bella alone in the woods after he told her he didn’t want her anymore. “But he was lying right?”

“Yeah, he did it so she’d forget about him.” She said. “But homegirl was depressed. I swear there’s nothing more Twilight than having life changing conversations in the middle of the woods.”

Y/N cuddled closer to Harry, wrapping one of her arms around his torso. She had to admit New Moon wasn’t her favorite out of the whole saga, but it was just because she didn’t get to see Edward enough, and God knows how much Y/N loves some Edward Cullen screen time. However, Harry was pretty much enjoying himself.

“Of course she went with my man Jacob.” He smirked and wiggled his eyebrows when Y/N looked up at him.

“Oh my god.” She snorted. “I hate that he’s a minor and Bella is already 18.”

“The vampire is like, a hundred years older than her.”

“That’s hot.”

Harry let out a big belly laugh, having a hard time to catch his breath. Now, he couldn’t be jealous of her little teenage crush, and he actually found it quite adorable and hilarious at the same time.

“So she’s trying to get herself killed or something?”

“She’s trying to see Edward.”

“Why?! He felt her alone in the middle of the woods!”

“He thought he was doing the right thing!” She defended. “You know, I actually cried in the theater when I went to watch it. My sister doesn’t let that die.”

“Should I send a video to Molly when you start crying?” He teased.

“Don’t be mean.” She pouted. Harry copied her before pressing his lips on hers gently.

“Look, the vampires are back, yay.”

She giggled but turned back to the television anyway. It was the scene were Alice went back looking for Bella, then there was the scene were Jacob and Bella were alone in the kitchen and the phone rang.

“I hate this part.” She said, clinging into Harry’s arm.

“He made him believe she was dead.” Harry’s lips went into an ‘o’ shape, surprised. “Is he going to kill himself?”

“That’s his plan. Keep watching.” She told him. “God, poor Edward looked so bad.”

“Ooh, I like that car.” Harry pointed at the yellow Ferrari Alice stole in Italy. “Should we get a car like that?”

“To keep it in the garage until we can go out again?”

“I won’t be needing your services after all, gentlemen.” They heard Edward said.

“He says that like he was ordering his own murder on postmates.” Y/N scoffed, making her boyfriend laugh.

“Oh my god, he flies.” Harry said when the vampires started fighting and Edward was sent to the other side of the room.

They were reaching the end of the movie, were Bella made the Cullens vote to see if she’d become a vampire or not.

“If I were a vampire, would you turn into one for me?” Harry asked suddenly.

“Why are you the vampire? I have the most knowledge.”

“Baby, Twilight knowledge is not vampire knowledge.” He pinched her cheek.

“Whatever.” She scoffed. “And of course I’d do it. You’d be a pretty grumpy vampire if I wasn’t with you.” She gave him a playful smile.

“True.”

It was the last scene. Bella, Jacob and Edward were in to woods again, and the two men were going to start a fight.

“… Don’t make me choose, because it’ll be him. Is always been him.”

“Girl, same.” Y/N said.

“Heeeey.” Harry furrowed his eyebrows playfully.

Y/N put her hand on Harry’s thigh, knowing what was coming next.

“He’s gonna do it.” She squealed.

“Do what?”

“I have one condition, if you want me to do it myself. And then forever. Marry me, Bella.”

“Hell yes.”

“It ends like that?” He asked.

“Yep. Imagine having to wait another year to watch the next one.”

“Didn’t you read the books? You knew what’s gonna happen.”

“I mean, yeah. But what’s the fun in it if I can’t see Robert Pattinson’s face?”

“Alright, that’s enough for today.” He took the remote from her hands and hid it behind his back.

“Give it back, we have to watch the next one!”

“All I’m seeing is my girlfriend thirsting over a bloody vampire!”

“C’mon, I’m thirsty over you too.” She rolled her eyes.

“Now we’re talking.” Harry came closer to her so their faces were only inches away. He looked down to her lips then back to her eyes, smirking when he noticed her blushing. “You’re not too bad yourself, love.”

“Gee, thanks.”

He chuckled, giving her back the remote but not without stealing a little kiss from her. He went out of the couch and Y/N protested immediately. “Lemme go to the bathroom first, woman!”

Tbh I think it’s a little funny (not “haha” funny but like “….huh” funny) that you’re sayin I’m “loud and proud” about my interests even though I don’t really feel like I am because THAT means my self-esteem has improved A LOT. So, thank you for the ego boost anon! Soon my ego will be so huge that it wouldn’t even be a joke anymore!! (Ok well…maybe not THAT far but still maybe some day…).

Lemm tell you a quick secret, c’mere. Closer? A liiiittle closer? There we are. AHEM :

Sometimes…I feel embarrassed and kinda fearful about sharing my interests! ESPECIALLY about my aus. Heck, I have an au related thing I want to post atm but I’m kinda worried that it’s too self-indulgent? I’ll get over it in a minute though so don’t worry about me LMAO. But, I’m certainly getting better at not feeling bad about being self-indulgent (because that’s what I’m doing). I just…kinda embrace it, you know? It’s easier said than done, but I assure you, once you get over that fear MAN…it’s really the best feeling in the world.

A lot of it for me was “faking it until I make it” by constantly saying “You’re not cringe for simply liking something. And even if you are, it’s fine because you’re having fun and enjoying yourself! Are you not enjoying yourself? I know you are!!” etc etc along with “You’re the smartest person on the planet, you’re amazing, lovely, and people enjoy and want to hear your voice and your thoughts!” etc etc. Just…lots and lots of self-affirmations and joking about me having huge ego that I’m growing. (Basically the opposite of self-depreciation humor.) Well that, and also others telling how much they enjoy the stuff I make and what I have to say! People enjoying what I do/say has really helped me with that too! And after a while, I just…stopped caring. I’m annoying and cringe!! So what?? It’s just something that’s a permanent part of me that I embraced with…uh…slightly open and shakey arms. But the embrace was warm and welcoming. It’s became…nice. Like falling sleeping under a warm blanket during the winter when it’s snowing outside. It really was nice. Just…not caring anymore. And even for the days where I do care, I think about the people who enjoy what I do and post my stuff for their sake! “YEAH I KNOW my followers will LOOVE this!! I know SOMEONE will love this!” And that’ll make me happy. All of my ramblings and other dumb stuff is to make someone happy. Whether that be me or someone else or both. Also ya know…cringe culture is basically dead at this point. Nobody cares if you talk about a harmless thing you enjoy!! And if someone does, it’s THEIR problem! Not yours!!

So, after picking your character you should think of something nostalgic from the early 2000s-2010s! I did a LOT of these things since I grew up during these times. I actually genuinely hold a lot of love to them!

I love poking fun at it while also tributing it, which is where Shadow Filbo firt started. (I actually started him in the YH Discord server, he then spread to my friend groups and I just began making more content for him.)

A lot of people have said this all reminds them of those times, so I'm doing my job here!

Any edgy YT animation/deviantart OCs are great inspo to start - especially if you can reference or inspire the things you were into. Or what you did.

Shadow Filbo references Bani the Kitty's evil form in Ezpups/Bani the Kitty's "Animal I've Become" video! His design is actually quite similar to it. I was OBSESSED with the video, and funnily enough it got me into trying digital art.

(I also wanted scene hair because of it so, that's a yike. Keep in mind I wasn't even in middle school.)

Furry Gramble is actually HEAVILY inspired off me in early middle school! I still do a lot of the things, but less Erin Hunter book reading and less angst. Like, he has hair over his face and wears a hoodie which are both things I do for my own comfort. Except I furry and scene-ified it.

It's an IDEAL lighthearted way for me to look back and poke fun at myself! This is all really meant to look back at whatever "cringy" things you were doing as a kid and laugh, while also being glad all those things happened. A tribute as I've said, y'know?

This should NEVER be used to actually make fun out of anyone or harass them!! Cringe culture is D E A D. This should all be lighthearted fun.

Intro & My take on KM

Hi!

I’m new around here so it’s supposed to be (not so short) introduction, since I don’t know how to start a blog heh. I hope to sprinkle my 0.5 cents into the KM conversation and maybe to bring a new perspective from someone, who is not a part of the typical English-speaking West.

Who /the hell/ Am I?

I was born in Siberia (it’s in the Asian part of Russia), currently live in the European part of the country while studying at a Uni (European in terms of geography, not in terms of everything else i’m definitely not shading rn lolllll). English is not my first language, I’ve just kind of learnt it to some extent. Due to this it takes me more time to write a post; and I may (and will) make some grammatical & other mistakes. Plus I’m lazy AND busy with Uni, so I won’t even promise to be consistent in posting smth lol. But I thought I need more practice in terms of writing in English, so here I am, actually scribbling something. This feels weird, because I’ve been around stan Tumblr since 2015, but never ever interacted, just read.

How I ended up around Jikook/Kookmin (and BTS) & My (long&messy) take on this matter

Although I had heard of BTS before, I became an Army only in October 2018. I had kinda avoided them, because you know... boybands.... sing songs about romantic love and how they love girls.......... (+I had been around Twitter when 1D been at their peak and I remember a quite toxic community of fans, whom always had scared me). Shortly, hello stereotypes. Obviously, after I got engaged I felt terribly sorry that I had been sleeping on them, but what is done cannot be undone. 

Someone I knew back then reposted one of their MVs and I, during my sad hours of procrastination, decided to watch it. Then I saw their live performance with the same song. And I thought “wow these guys can sing and dance and the music is kinda cool, i need to check this out maybe??” 

Then a funny thing happened. One of the next videos I watched (the same person had it added to their page) was a 2016 BangtanBomb where JM and JK practiced their Coming of Age dance. 

Do you know this moment with Gina from the 1st episode of Brooklyn 9-9:

Well, that was precisely me after I watched it. I don’t even know how to explain this, it was kind of a gut feeling? Whatever you call it, I started to get suspicious and couldn’t even explain to myself why. /actually now a do have questions to this vid and the main one - why does everyone cringe that much? if it’s a girly choreo than they had done some “girly” moves before. why is there such strong reaction??/

I started to get deeper and went to some ru-shipper communities. Shipping culture among Russian speaking fans is... well, weird to some extent, but I maybe address this topic some time later. You need to consider that (as far as you probably know) Russia is quite homophonic country and sadly is not the greatest place for LGBTQ+ community at the moment. The non-frienly influential attitudes hanging in the society + the general shippers’ weirdness = the result is not that nice honestly. 

I struggled for some time in order to find more mature people (not just in terms of age but in general sanity), failed, ended up with some EXTREMELY toxic ru-fans of TK, which was/is the most popular pairing here, spent among them like 15 minutes and ran away horrified. After that I didn’t even try to engage with shippers or believers or whatever of any pair and just decided to enjoy the music and the content (which is a great idea, highly recommend!)

After a couple of days I discovered that JK makes videos. I love video, films and visual art so I immediately found them on YT, saw the titles with names of different cities from all over the world and was like “Oh that must be so cool, he’s visited so many outstanding places I’ve never been to, so I really need to watch it! I shall enjoy some beautyyy”. Then I clicked on GCFt.

Well, what can I say. I did enjoy some beauty, but not the type I had initially anticipated. The biggest clickbait in my entire life. JK should be proud of himself.

As a person who edited videos AND is not a native English speaker, I don’t buy the explanation “oh he mustve didnt get the lyrics lmao”. You just don’t do that. You don’t. DON’T. You google and translate every shit you don’t understand, every word and idiom you’ve never encountered, because otherwise the possibility of an epic failure is very likely. You wouldn’t want to give your mum a video as a birthday present and then discover that you used a song with WAP-ish lyrics, right? (well maybe that would be okay in your family, I don’t judge, but that’s not the case for people I know). So don’t you dare to degrade JK’s intellectual capacities; such assumption is really offensive. He is a smart boii, he knows exactly what he’s doing in terms of his art.

So I was shocked, but decided to look for the context - maybe I missed some previous events regarding this Tokyo thing (another great idea - always check the context). Well, apparently I didn’t, because the whole narrative with the trip for two, lovely selfies etc. made my poor brain lowkey explode. (I still don’t buy the rings theory thing though)

But I didn’t give up lol! I’m a bit stubborn and it’s very hard to convince me in anything, so I decided to search for more context, more of their interactions, moreeee. Remember, the late October 2018, there were no swan lakes, RB, and even MMA18 hadn’t happened yet. 

This time I ended up watching content in more or less consistent way, and when I saw all of these scenes with affectionate JM and a cool badass i-don’t-care-about-anyone-i’m-a-manly-man-with-no-feelings-whatsoever JK, I just hysterically laughed. 

Homophobic Russia, remember? I recognized this. Growing up here being LGBT myself, taught me the same type behaviour during my high school days. When a girl I kinda liked but didn’t what to admit it to myself was nice to me or (oh god) flirted with me, I did something similar. It’s like a huge panic mode. Being an introvert doesn’t help either. The funniest thing is that you may not entirely realise what exactly is going on in terms of your own feelings, especially at that age (16-18ish). In my personal case, I thought I liked her but as a friend, only later to realise that well not as a friend oops :DDD The second thing (already not so funny) is that you actually consciously or unconsciously try to avoid the subject as much as possible, as long as possible and pretend that nothing is going on. We’re just bros. Stop doing this stupid gayish thing and don’t look at me like that, you’re annoying. If you ever do this again I (gently) kick you. I’m straighter than a straight line in my math textbook. IDK, but probably that’s your brain is somehow trying to protect you. Again, in my case&position I knew that the consequences for any non-straight person being outed would be bad (TW not to the point of being killed bad, but to the point of being excluded from a big part of society). So for me it was a mixture of the internalized homophobia + lack of self reflection + just being a bit emotionally slow + very! straight community around. Shit happens, I was a teenager and made my share of mistakes, but that experience helps me to recognize the same pattern of behaviour up to this day.   

So coming back to KM, because the post is already waaay too long and I just ramble. It’s been 2+ years for me being a part of this fandom, and what can I say... Things become more intense and eventful with every year passing by ;) Funny how I felt that vibe from the 2016 dance practice video. Seeing the Black Swan performance a week ago almost had me choked, no joking. They are amazing.

However, and I would like to emphasize that, I do not incline that KM are 100% romantically involved and/or gay or whatever. I tend to treat people with respect and not to make too much assumptions about their private life. That’s not my business. However, I’m also not a fan of heteronormativity, so I’m just sitting here and observe everything that’s going on putting some distance and not forgetting being generally polite and critical thinking. But if they are just straightest besties please give them an Oscar before Grammy

“Where’s Y/N at?” Sam asked Bucky as he gripped Bucky’s shoulder. 

“Hello to you too, asshole,” Bucky answered as he leaned on the bar, patiently waiting for Wanda to get to him. 

“You know we all like her more than you, don’t act surprised,” Sam joked. 

“She’s just finished up at work. She’ll be here soon.”

Sam nodded and went back to the group after his so-called greeting to Bucky. 

Wanda was finally able to give Bucky his drink without even asking what he wanted. 

“Well, well, well... if it isn’t the infamous Bucky Barnes,” a sultry voice said behind Bucky. 

He tensed a little bit, slightly recognizing the female voice. 

He turned to find a past fling. Or more so, past flings. 

Her name was Candace. 

She had light blonde hair, but insisted on dying it grease black for some reason. Natasha once described her as trashy, though Bucky never commented on that. She was a woman who dressed more for men than for herself, which Bucky didn’t mind – (obviously.)

It was a friends-with-benefits type of relationship. Though Bucky didn’t even really consider her a friend. They were both attracted to each other, the sex was good... but it was never anything more than a very casual relationship. It ended a few months before Y/N moved to town. 

Bucky hadn’t really thought about her at all since then. 

“Hey, Candace. How ya been?” He asked her. 

“What? Not even so much as a hug or a kiss on the cheek?” She played up her defense. 

Bucky laughed lightly and stepped forward to give her a quick hug. 

“What are you doing here?” He then asked. 

The only time she’d been at this bar was when Bucky would tell her to meet him there. He was always some form of drunk and it was always a booty call. 

“Oh, some friends dragged me here,” she said half-heartedly. “But now I’m glad they did.”

Then she stepped closer to him. 

Too close for Bucky’s liking. 

“It’s been too long, Bucky...” she practically whispered to him. 

He instantly took a step back. “It’s not like that anymore, Candace. I’m sorry.” Then he cleared his throat. “I have a girlfriend.”

Candace playfully rolled her eyes. “Yeah, I heard. Didn’t really believe the rumors, if I’m being honest.”

“Well, believe it,” he answered, probably sounding harsher than he meant to be. 

“Oh, come on. Everyone knows it’s not that serious...” Candace cooed. This time she gripped his shoulders and used his weight to pull herself closer. 

Bucky glared at her then and took her hands off of his shoulder. “Candace, I’m being serious...” He growled in warning. 

He was trying to be a gentleman while also making it brutally clear that he wanted nothing to do with her. 

“Bucky?” Wanda called from the bar. 

He was caught off guard by her trying to get his attention. 

When he turned to her, Wanda was pushing forward a drink that looked disgustingly milky and then a shot that Bucky didn’t even want to know what it was. 

“The fuck is this?” He asked. 

“Horse Jizz and a tape worm shot,” Wanda explained as she cringed. 

Bucky opened his mouth to ask for more of an explanation. 

“Sent over from Y/N,” Wanda added before he could say anything more. 

Then she nodded over into the corner of the bar. 

Bucky’s stomach flipped when he turned to see that Y/N was very much at the bar. Somehow she snuck in and must’ve seen Bucky getting groped and hit on by a woman, and decided to go to his friends instead of trying to stake her claim. 

He met eyes with Y/N, who looked merely disappointed. 

She was standing with Sam and Thor, who both properly glared at Bucky on her behalf. 

“Fuck,” Bucky hissed, knowing the damage had already been done. 

He shoved past Candace, ignoring anything she said to try and regain his attention. 

To his annoyance, both Thor and Sam acted as human shields. 

“Seriously? Both of you?” Bucky accused his two friends. 

“It’s fine, guys,” Y/N told them quietly. 

Only then did they stand down. 

But she was clearly pissed and nothing about the situation was funny or amusing to her. 

“Doll, I can explain,” Bucky told her when he finally had her to himself. 

“Funny! That’s what every asshole in the movies always says when he’s caught,” she snapped back. 

“We used to mess around, back in the day. It was nothing serious. We never even went on a date. It was just sex.”

Y/N scoffed. “Oh, is that supposed to make me feel better?” 

“No, it’s not. I’m just... I’m trying to be honest, Y/N.” 

“Were you trying to be honest with her? Because it looks like whatever you were saying, she couldn’t take a hint...”

But instead of getting frustrated, Bucky realized that was no way to handle the situation. 

So, instead, he stepped forward, and with purpose. 

“If you’re jealous right now... you’ve got no reason to be, Y/N.” Then he stepped even closer. He completely invaded her space now. “There’s no one else but you, doll. They don’t mean shit to me, you hear me?” 

Y/N seemed taken aback by his new approach. 

“They don’t mean anything...because you mean everything. OK?”

Y/N didn’t even realize she was nodding. 

Bucky grabbed her jaw and kissed her. He took his sweet time, not giving a shit who was watching them. In fact, he hoped Candace was watching, so she would leave him the hell alone. 

When they finally pulled apart, Y/N was frowning at him. “They all want a piece of you...”

It was true. Women who were adjacent to their culture, their lifestyle...they all saw Bucky as some sort of twisted objective. He was a king to them, the ultimate alpha male. Whether it was long term or just one night, women threw themselves at him. 

“It’s not me they want,” Bucky corrected her. “They’ve just got their ideas.” 

“Yeah?” Y/N challenged. “So what do I have then?”

“You’ve got me,” he told her. “The real me. The me they don’t know a lick about. And you always will.” 

Y/N smiled at that. 

But then it dropped quickly. “She’s still seen you naked though...” 

“Well, later tonight, I promise I’ll make you forget all about that part,” Bucky whispered huskily as his hands wrapped around her to grip her ass.

ok i know you said that reblog didn’t just refer to Rakepick (i’m assuming that’s who you meant by “her” but correct me if not) but i don’t really see how it could refer to her character in the first place?? if you could elaborate that’d be great cos i feel like it’s flying right over my head lmao

Happy to! As I might have predicted, I did get several messages about the post I reblogged so now I’ll try to clarify my feelings on this, as I know it’s been a touchy subject in the past. (This ended up being quite long, so...) @dat-silvers-girl and @heleneplays I thought you might find this interesting.

The original post was talking about shipping and the difference between enjoying character dynamics and actually projecting onto characters to see the relationship style you would want in your own life. I feel like both of these things can happen and that’s okay, but the point was that shipping two characters doesn’t mean you condone any implications that such a relationship would have in real life. Enemies to Lovers is a great example. 

In regards to fiction, I took that mindset a step further and talked about characters in general, notably villains. The same way we shouldn’t assume that people like a certain ship because they want a relationship like that in their own life, I don’t think it says anything about a person if a villain is their favorite character. Very often, villains are the most interesting or fleshed out. They have a unique relationship with the story itself as they are often the driving force or representative of its message. You could say that Harry Potter is a story about love and family...and Voldemort exists as someone who cannot comprehend either, to demonstrate their importance. Anyway, the point is that there’s nothing wrong with liking a villainous character. 

When I was growing up, it didn’t seem like this was a contested idea. It was actually common, particularly for villains who were seen as “cool” and many of them were. You’ll find few people who don’t agree that Darth Vader or Darth Maul look cool. However, in recent years, I’ve noticed that purity culture has spread to the point where liking a villain is considered questionable. It no longer seems to be enough, necessarily, that one is merely enjoying the villain as a character. Just like the idea of shipping two characters now means one must condone that kind of relationship in real life, sometimes it seems as though liking a villain is now tantamount to condoning their actions. 

Then again, there are people who feel sympathy for villains and attempt to justify their actions. Sometimes it’s due to a personal attraction. It’s a meme that people get horny for villains, and there’s probably some overlap there with folks who lean toward the “projection” style of shipping I talked about earlier, but never mind that. Other times, this sympathy can overlap with seeing potential in the character. There is a fine line, of course, between rooting for a redemption for the villain and arguing that they did nothing wrong in the first place, but these days it seems as though rooting for a redemption for the “wrong” kind of villain is something people take as an insult. (Severus Snape comes to mind.) Alternatively, people also seem to take it as an insult if you don’t believe the “right” kind of character deserves redemption. (This happens a lot with Princess Azula.)

Now all that being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with hating a villain and just wanting them to go to hell and die. Like, that makes perfect sense. There are villains out there that we love to hate, characters who are so despicable that most people would agree they deserve a slow and painful death. Joffrey Baratheon is a great example. (Actually, a lot of Game of Thrones characters would apply here...) If a villain inspires true loathing from you, then paradoxically that also means they’re great, because they’ve been written in such a way that you as an audience can feel the evil. But this can become complicated if they overlap such despicable villains with the ones who have potential to be more interesting. It becomes complicated because of the aforementioned binary that now seems to be prevalent. The idea that everything one likes in fiction reflects what they believe should go on in real life.

Which brings us to Rakepick. 

Wow, we finally got here. I appreciate your patience. Rakepick is that character who has overlap. Whether we like it or not, she was presented as an ally for two years of the game’s story, before her betrayal. She spent a lot of quality time with MC and the other apprentices. We got to know her. It is not at all surprising, I don’t believe, that some of us see that “potential” to be more in Patricia Rakepick. But on the other hand, she sure has gone above and beyond in the effort to be one of those villains you just hate, given what she’s done. Having been part of this discourse, I think what’s going on is that the players who still feel a connection to Rakepick feel attacked by the players who ruthlessly condemn her. The players who condemn her feel insulted by the idea that players still like her after the terrible crimes she’s committed, after what she did to Rowan. No one is wrong here. Rakepick is a fascinating character who’s done unspeakable things. We do not need to fight about her. 

Everyone has different opinions about characters for different reasons. I have villains that I simply love because I see something more in them, or because I just think they’re cool. I also have villains for whom I feel the same contempt people have for Rakepick. Villains who I cannot stand and it makes me cringe to see their actions justified or considered - Cersei Lannister comes to mind. Likewise, there are just as many heroic characters that I love and adore, and some others that I find problematic. Others still that I flat out despise because of what they’ve done, villain or no villain, like Nozomi from SMT. Albus Dumbledore is probably the character I hate the most in fiction, even though he’s one of the good guys. I’m “Anti-Dumbledore” but when it comes to Rakepick, I don’t even like to use the term “Antis” because when a character is unquestionably a villain...isn’t it the default setting to hate them and root against them? 

Here’s the main thing. They’re fictional characters, first and foremost. They aren’t real, so it’s not like they know if we’re defending or condemning them. All of us are part of fandom to enjoy their story and share our enjoyment with each other. I feel like that should come before anything else. No matter if Rakepick is one of those villains you find “cool,” no matter if you love to hate her with how evil she is, no matter if you see more to her and wish she wasn’t considered a villain...or even if, like most of the HPHM fandom, you simply can’t stand her and root for a shallow grave...all of us have these opinions because we like HPHM. That matters more than our specific opinions about characters. Even villains. Even ones who have crossed as many lines as Rakepick.

They’re cringe af, poorly written, and they’re NEVER once funny despite that clearly being the intention. Listening to them is physically uncomfortable for everyone because, like, they’re really just not funny. At all. Most of their “jokes” don’t even make sense (reminds me of that awful low-effort meme humour where it’s not even a joke, it’s literally just weird loud af noises played over a saturated screen or some shit) and it makes for a very awkward experience every single time. I get that they’re supposed to be cringe to some degree because they’re streamers and it’s supposed to be a social commentary on the modern streaming culture or whatever, but I’m pretty sure most of it is really because of the writing. It kinda feels like the writers were trying to replicate Handsome Jack’s blasé attitude (because Jack pulls in players and players mean more money and since they can’t bring actual Jack back too many times then they’ll have to make someone that’s like him) but it flopped because, well, they’re not Jack. And they couldn’t have ever been Jack. They weren’t written by Burch, they weren’t played by Clarke, and those really are the only two people who could have executed a villain like that. So instead of capturing that enigmatic, stylish tone that Jack gave off, it’s just falls flat. It’s the main reason most players hate on bl3; because the twins are genuinely unbearable. And not in a “oh wow I really hate the villains I can’t wait to take them down because they’re such bad guys” way, but in a “holy shit why would you write this, this is garbage” way. And I’m sure the writers did their best and it’s not to say they’re bad at their job. By all means, they have a job at a major game dev so they’re evidently up to scratch with what they do. Everyone has an off day, even when they’re really good at what they’re doing. This instance probably just reflects that - it’s a mishap, it’s a wobble. And I guess following a villain like Jack doesn’t help either, because you can’t really compare much to a character who has been routinely hailed as one of gaming’s best and most memorable villains. But the attempts at “humour” and the horrible insufferable attitude the twins have would still be terrible without that factor, so yeah. Either way, the game is best played on mute whenever the twins are on screen lmao, it’ll save a lot of uncomfortable cringe sensations in the spinal area. In short, the game as a whole is pretty much on par with the pre-sequel for how much the player base hates it, and 90% of that is due to the twins and the terrible Curse of Cringe that they brought with them (the other 10% being due to bugs in the first months of release, but that’s not on my list of things to care about lol).

I just want to say I ADORE Operation Red Zone. It's a refreshing look at grief and loss that I've not really encountered before and Giles definitely deserved the screen time to explore his grief over Jenny's death in more detail! It led me to wonder how you go about writing something like that and not cry every time you think about it. Did you draw off any real-life experiences or is it all research based? I'm just curious because I'd be a mess if it were me lmao :)

Aww thank you anon <3 It makes me very happy to see stuff like this to the point where I start doing laps of the living room like an excited puppy. I’ve been truly humbled by how it’s been received actually, especially after being mostly inactive in the fandom until last year.

The only tears I’ve shed when thinking about it are purely from a ‘holy shit it’s awful! I’m going to delete that bullshit!’ perspective which I’m quite proud of actually. As to my references... Most of the plot is based off my own soap opera-esque late teens. I have no issues with sharing parts of it because it was a while ago now and I don’t give a fuck, though there are some potentially triggering things so it’ll be beneath the break. Also I don’t like getting to soppy because cringe, so it won’t be too detailed...

As I’ve said many times, Giles’ grief over Jenny’s death was never addressed and it’s infuriating. Especially as he’s one of the most interesting characters and Tony Head (other than being a genuinely lovely bloke) has it well within his skillset to pull something like that off. Jenny’s death in general was all but forgotten and something that doesn’t stand out as a ‘big moment’ in the series, which is unfair because it should be. You can’t just fridge characters because you’re a douche canoe and got bored of them. Hence my need for an AU where people actually DEAL with their emotions and try to start working through them.

Personal Context: To cut a very long, depressing, quite frankly disgustingly graphic story short, my best friend was killed in a drunk driver accident just before Christmas a few years back. It made national news being so nasty, there was a GRAPHIC Facebook post from the person who was there on scene when she died that was EVERYWHERE for months, it was horrific. I was 17, had no idea what the fuck to do and was pretty much left to it because of other stuff falling apart. I was always taught that what’s done is done so there’s no point crying about it. That’s toxic and harmful behaviour, but I ended up doing worse, ‘borderline’ illegal things because who cares about consequences when the worst has already happened? That whole year or so was the first time I’d properly experienced grief.

On my Lockdown 1 Buffy Binge, Passion came about and I found myself really relating to Giles. Obviously different circumstances, but it struck a chord that previous re-watches had failed to. There was a compelling need to use my ‘spicy year from hell’ as a skeleton reference for how the Scoobies would deal with something. Essentially, it came about because I wanted to express what I’d been through, using my favourite characters so that I could give them a happy-ish ending that I didn’t get. Also, I didn’t want to make it completely doom and gloom because there’s only so much you can take and although the situation may be dire, there is always some relief, no matter how small and if you can’t laugh, you’ll cry right? It sounds stupid but it’s the honest truth. It’s not just Giles either. Other characters’ behaviours and responses are based off what I’ve witnessed. Say what you will about trauma but by god is it an education for learning about life and making you wise beyond your years. 

Of course, I do google some stuff because I’m British, so cultural differences are a massive thing that I totally underestimated. I’m still baffled by the Schooling system across the pond because like... what? I don’t remember the 90s on account for being too young, so there’s that too. And just general things because I’m dumb as fuck and know nothing about the world so I’m eager to learn. Yeah, I blagged my way through A Levels and into Law School, but do I have a functioning brain cell...? Not at all, as Em can attest.

i didn't have anything i wanted to speak on too too specifically so apologies ahead of time if this is all over the place ! first tho, i read a thread recently about vrvr's writing ? / speaking styles from a translator ! and i noticed some of the things they were talking about too... i also ! have the diy version of face you ! where the members all wrote a short message and i felt in those messages and in the letters too you can really see each of their personalities kind of clearly ? for lack of a better description ;;;; like we talked about minchan's ;;;; there's something very earnest and genuine in his ;;;; which probably took immense courage on his part ... and also like we talked about it seems his feelings are a bit difficult to lay out when he describes them ;;;;

and i get this from some of the members too ? i feel like i'm probably most familiar with dongheon fgjhdgjd i haven't been a verrer long but ;;;; i sit in on a lot of his vlives and i've mentioned it before but he has a lot of ?? cuteness in the way he speaks looool i honestly think that's just how he talks normally ;;;; you'll see in his letter too he uses a lot of exclamations points and the TT in one of his answers ;;;; i felt like nothing he said really surprised me, but his genuine interest in song production and that whole process is really endearing to me personally ;;;; he talked about it too in his voice vlive but he's had a lot of worries and struggles for this upcoming promotion and i think you can kinda tell from the way he talks about stuff but it's mixed in with fanservice (?) so,,, not gonna try and project ;;;; but i know he's been working really hard ! and i am proud of him u.u (*cringe cringe*)

hoyoung and gyehyeon LMAO fkjhgdkjfgh ... they both rarely do solo vlives so i haven't heard them talk too much on their own and in their letters too, it's pretty ! straightforward and to the point ! both of their answers are short and concise, no extra add-ons... maybe it's bc i'm gyehyeon biased (now ?? ig ???) but i feel like he's always surprisingly warm in some ways ... really did not take him for the fanservice type at all but i'm starting to see more of it ;;;;; of course take my interpretations as you will as a baby verrer </3 i don't see them both as too talkative to begin with so not much insight i could provide for their letters ! i just thought it was kinda funny, if you removed the names and pics i probably would have been able to point out who's who if you asked kjfghdjkfg oh ig another thing you can really tell that performance is a big motivator for gye ;;;; he's always been kind of an enigma to me so it's hard for me to read past that

yeonho <33 my bestie i care he ! i really admire his optimism / outlook a lot ! and i think that really comes through in his letter like filling his room with lights ;;;; and then the joke about the 'hole' being only 2 meters deep fkjghdfjgh he's so *heart eyes* you know :'))) a funny guy :3 i remember the members saying he really does have such a bright personality and that makes me happy to hear ;;;; wishing him genuine happiness always ^^ yongseung ! i think he's quite literal like hoyoung and gyehyeon were too in some ways in his answers but there's something very mature and eloquent in how he describes stuff... like that metaphor of deep water,,, shine says he's very well-spoken and i'd definitely agree ;;;; smth almost poetic to the flow of his words it's very neat :0 and lastly kangmin ;;;; kangmin is so obviously babie ;;;; he has so many question marks in his answers ;;;;; lol kinda looks like he's unsure of his own words (wow like me using 20+ ? in this ask probably) ik the other members have said he's slowly becoming more self assured ! and i certainly hope to be able to see that growth ^^

RANT TIME!!!!

What to expect below the cut: barely controlled RAGE at my new neighbor regarding discussion of religion (Christianity in particular). Spoiler alert: I’m not Christian and have a negative knee-jerk reaction to most interactions with people who go out of their way to make sure you know they’re a Christian and/or assume that I am, too!

This interaction has been bothering me ALL FUCKING DAY. It only “clicked” for me as I was putting away groceries just a moment ago that I’m upset because of the way this neighbor gave me only two choices in the conversation: 1) agree with him because of the assumptions he aggressively placed on me, or 2) make the difficult decision to “other” myself to a person I met literally two minutes ago.

So here’s what happened. The spouse and I needed to go run some errands today. We decided to take our large vehicle (an SUV) which was still loaded up with a few things from the move (...three weeks later.... lmao) so the spouse went outside to quickly shove it all into the garage so we’d have an empty car ready to transport groceries and possibly a table (if we found what we were looking for).

I got distracted while he was out there but didn’t try to redirect myself because I knew he’d come back inside once the car was unloaded so that we could treat our dogs and leave. But after a while it dawned on me that he’d been outside a lot longer than needed to unload just a few things into the garage. As if on cue, he comes inside and mutters, “Well, I haven’t unloaded anything yet because I met the neighbor over to the right of us.... that’s been fun....”

Apparently the neighbor is outside washing his car and sees my spouse’s Star Wars tshirt and uses that as an opportunity to start a conversation. No big deal, sure, lots of people do that. Then he immediately lets my spouse know that he did NOT like the most recent trilogy. And as spouse tells me this I outwardly cringe. Because here’s the thing..... 1) you’re going to lead with that?? and 2) never has anyone said that to us and been talking about anything reasonable. It’s always about not liking the “PC culture” and “catering” to particular audiences (read: being a sexist and racist) and never anything like “whoa they really fucked over their actors of color wtf”. So that’s red flag number one, but of course I also acknowledge that I don’t have a lot of details about this dude or his opinions yet, so I’ll just treat this as one piece of the suspected puzzle and see how it turns out. “Strike one,” I think. 

But you and I both know where this is going, because liking the last Star Wars trilogy isn’t itself political but the reasons you don’t like the final Star Wars trilogy suuuuuuuuure are telling.

Anyway, because my spouse suffers from chronic politeness, he feels awkward unloading the car while the neighbor is trying to talk to him so he just.... stands there and listens. So I join him outside and almost single-handedly unload the entire car myself while the spouse continues to awkwardly talk with the neighbor. I don’t bother to introduce myself to the neighbor and he doesn’t really acknowledge my existence either, so I’m already mentally thinking, “Strike two.”

So the dude just keeps kind of talking at my spouse as he stands there awkwardly, trying to be polite and friendly but feeling that he’s not truly part of a conversation. And he’s right! I finished unloading the car, went inside to treat and crate the dogs, and returned to the car, signaling that we needed to go. The spouse tries to disengage, but the neighbor is very intent on talking to him about his Gaelic heritage. Oof. Dude, I know we wear kilts but we literally Do Not Care. We wear them because we like them. The fact that we each have some Scottish and/or Irish heritage is just a little bit of justification we use if we aren’t comfortable telling someone that we like them because they’re both gender-neutral and gender-wtf clothing.

So anyway, the neighbor who is already on Strike Two veers deep into “If you had started with zero strikes, this topic immediately bumps you up to Strike 10″ territory. He makes some comment about being related due to Gaelic ancestry, and then uses that to segue into, “Well, I mean, we’re all cousins really when you think about it! After the flood, you know, with Noah and then those families parted ways with different languages and drifted apart.... So yeah, we’re really just cousins, you, me, and the rest of the world!” And he just grins at us with the expectation that we agree.

Y’all I have said it before and I will say it again: I may never go back to being maskless in public. And it’s specifically because no one can see my facial expressions in situations like this, when I desperately want to leave the conversation without causing a scene but also can’t hide either my horror, disgust, or anger.

So, as someone who was raised in a Southern Baptist household and is now staunchly non-religious, two things went through my head:

1) .....If you believe that all humankind descended from Adam and Eve then... the flood is kind of irrelevant for determining if we’re all related, wouldn’t you say?

2) ...you REALLY just did the thing. The thing that until today I’ve not been able to adequately describe. The thing where you make the pompous assumption that of COURSE these perfect strangers I’m talking to are CHRISTIAN! Of COURSE they are! So I’m gonna talk to them as though I KNOW they are and as thought to be otherwise would be ABSURD!

So my spouse and I are both standing next to our car, staring at this man who’s wearing a smug asshole grin on his face, really proud of how “friendly” and “loving” he’s being, I’m sure. And spouse glances at me, probably hoping that I don’t tear this man’s face off and therefore break the peace. I glance back at him, trying to figure out if I do want to rip this man’s face off or if I’d rather go shopping for a table. 

And I decide that I’d rather shop for a table and not immediately torpedo the chance of hopefully peacefully avoiding this neighbor forever more without introducing animosity. So we laughed uneasily and I said, “We’ve really got to go if we want to get everything done before things close today,” then hoisted myself into my seat and shut the door. Spouse hopped in and the second his door shut we both shrieked a quiet shriek of “OMG WTF” and drove away.

But I’ve been chewing on this interaction ALL DAY and I’m like.... why am I so goddamn mad about this??? And I finally figured it out. It’s because this man left no room for me or my spouse to be anyone other than who he assumed we are. 

He assumed that we were 1) Christian and 2) agreed with him. 

I won’t speak for my spouse, as his relationship with religion is more complicated than my own, but I 1) am not and 2) do not.

He crowded out who we actually are to make room for who he thinks we should be, and that will NEVER be okay with me. I’ve fought against being who others want or tell me to be my entire goddamn life, and that is why this is so upsetting to me.

We could either agree with him (or decline to disagree - same effect on the neighbor’s end) and keep the peace.

Or we could “other” ourselves and make it known that we aren’t the “good” people he assumes we are.

Because here’s the thing - never have I met someone who assumes I’m Christian and is 100% okay and nonproblematic when they find out (or I tell them) that I’m not. There’s always disappointment or confusion or outright hostility. 

And that means that othering ourselves to this complete stranger who lives next door to us isn’t safe and puts us at risk of making our existence here a living hell. Because we don’t know what kind of person he is, but based on our very brief interactions thus far I can probably guess. 

I am still so goddamn mad about this. And it’s interactions like these that make it so incredibly difficult for me to try to remain neutral or unbothered in situations where I must interact with overt Christianity bullshit. The people who are the most loud and pushy about it, the people who are the most insistent that of COURSE anyone worth interacting with is Christian, are exactly the types of Christians that make me want to run screaming from the room.
