Still grateful, despite it all

I have good reasons to bitch and moan today …

I came home from deer camp with COVID, as did my older son, which made a shambles of our Thanksgiving weekend plans.

Caitlin and Tony cancelled their flight from L.A. Wednesday and the Indiana wing of the family will also stay put. The family reconnection that Caitlin had so skillfully engineered is not to be.

I feel, as my mother would put it. like something the cat dragged in and Sharon, though still testing negative for COVID, is also feeling poorly.

And yet … this failed plan will give me a chance to practice what I preach: I'll l put my attitude into gratitude mode. I'll make it a point to remember that, in comparison to all I have, one spoiled holiday weekend is small potatoes.

After all, simp.y having a family like the one we have is reason alone to feel thanful.

I would also like to be angry, pissed off... I would love to scream or break something, but I can't. Because the situation wouldn't be appropriate... so I endure it all the time. I endure it and keep it all inside, yet still try to hold onto the most important thing... harmony and peace of mind 🙏💚

i turn 24 today. To celebrate, I made this comic to be a spiritual successor to lead balloon, a comic in which I talked about the darkest period of my life so far.

A lot has changed since my 23rd birthday and this one. My priorities have shifted a lot, in ways that I think are mostly good. But i think the best part about today is that suicide has gone back to being a far away notion. I'm really lucky, and I'm grateful for that.
