Okay okay I want to start this off by clarifying that I am not at all complaining about the diverse take on the characters in HOTD because it gives more non-white actors opportunities and honestly makes it so much easier to quickly identify who is who than it would be if they all looked albino.

With that being said, it has created a bit of a plot hole in the show. I read the first few pages of Fire and Blood and if the Velaryons are Black, so should the Targaryens be, because the two houses have been marrying into each other for over a century. Aegon the Conqueror's mother was a Velaryon and his son Aenys married Alyssa Velaryon and she gave birth King Jaehaerys I who, as we all saw, was somehow white.

Now I realize these characters probably wouldn't think of themselves in our modern terms, they'd probably be more like the ancient Greeks who never thought of themselves as "white", just as Greek. They probably just think of themselves as Valyrian. But, for lack of a better term, here we are (please for the love of God don't take any of this out of context): Why are the Targaryens "white"? I mean, we can clearly see from the show that the Velaryons have strong genes but none of Jaehaerys's descendants have even a touch of color to them.

Did the Velaryons used to be white and then married into a new house once they got to Westeros and inherited their looks? Were there two different Velaryon houses in Old Valyria, one white and one black and they just happened to have the same last name?

Or, perhaps my favorite option because it would be hilarious: the Valyrians were just black the whole time and the Targaryens are actually albino.

Lastly, writing about this topic made me think of this meme:

Al coming back from his travels: Xing was great! I've learned so much about alkahestry, and I think we're really making progress and getting Jerso and Zampano's bodies back! Steve is surprised to hear the knock at his door. It’s evening and he was in the middle of doing laundry before heading to bed early; ready for work tomorrow.

The rains been pouring all day so he pulls on a newly clean hoodie of Eddie’s before answering the door.

Eddie is standing there. Raindrops glistening in his hair, having not quite permeated and sodden his curls yet.

He stands under Steve’s awning, wringing his hands and stamping the water from his shoes.

Steve blinks at him, surprised. ‘Hey Ed, everything okay?’

‘I want to invite you to Frankenstein Friday.’ Eddie rushes, eyebrows pinched. ‘I watched it every year with Wayne. But then I had to educate the people around me you know?’ He throws his arms out and just as quickly draws them back in. ‘So, um now on a Friday around Halloween we watch Young Frankenstein.’ He finishes, finally taking a deep breath.

He bites his lip, pulls at a lock of his hair. ‘And usually we get drunk. Me and uh, me and the Hellfire guys, you know?’ His words slower now, what he’d wanted to say out of his brain finally.

Steve, winces. ‘Uh, sure, yeah if you think they’d want me there. I mean, they’re a bit, you know.’ He looks down at his socks, crossing his arms. The shadow of King Steve is still very much in Eddie’s friends memories.

Eddie steps forward, reaching out to touch but then seems to think differently, pulling his hands back to his sides. ‘I know but, I want them to meet you, properly. To get to know how cool you are and uh, if you’re okay with it. I thought I could introduce you as my boyfriend?’ He says, eyes holding Steve’s, forced bravery in his wound muscles.

Steve’s cheeks heat slowly, eyes wide and mouth open. He feels butterflies burst in his rib cage. Warm sunshine drip through his veins.

He blinks, eyes glassy.

Wraps his arms around Eddie’s shoulders and buries his face in his neck.

‘Okay.’ Steve mumbles.

‘Okay.’ Eddie laughs, hugging Steve close as the rain beats steady behind them.
