I saw a similar dynamic between Korra and Toph. I definitely can be the first to say that balancing those type of dynamics out with personalities like Asami and Tenzin (who are mostly firm, but gentle) are very much needed, but, man, there's just something about mutually seeing one another at their good, bad and ugly, and still being able to love and accept each other in spite of that. as well as GROWING throughout experiences together. At this point in canon, I do like them better as very close friends though.

It’s safe to say that Pariston is loaded with a ton of money— by being the cunning politician that he is, of course. And because his pockets are so deep, whenever he’s In a relationship, he decides to spoil his partner. 

Sometimes you wake up just to see that he’s gone and in his place is a box wrapped with sparkling red ribbons. When you open it you see that it’s something you wanted, whether it be the latest shoes or an expensive piece of jewelry. It’s always going to be something that catches the eye.

You get random notifications on your phone to see that Pariston has deposited funds in your account, always an amount that’s at least 3 digits. He later texts you “Did you like your surprise, love?” or “If you need more, just let me know.”

Takes you with him on business. He has you attached to his hip once you enter social circles, your job is to smile and look pretty to keep up appearances, of course. Though you can't complain too much since you get special treatment from everyone due to being the vice chairman’s partner.

Pariston always makes sure your self-care is on point. So you get feet and nails done, go to spas on the daily, and anything else you could think of. 

He’s very materialistic and an attention whore so again, if he notices that you’ve been sad lately, you look out the window to see a brand new car waiting for you. Or if you’re at work, you’ll suddenly get a bouquet of roses on your desk that was shipped by him.

Sometimes he’ll give you acts of services like coming behind you to clasp the necklace, drawing your baths, or even cooking for you. 

He also flies you out to different places. He’s taken you to France, Greece, etc. 

— Pariston will see you standing on the balcony and step outside the sliding doors, his button-down still tucked in dress slacks.

“Are you enjoying yourself, dear?” He asked as he wraps his arms around your waist, and you hum in response while leaning your head into his chest.

“Yes, this trip has been great.” 

You pause as you watch the waves crash in front of you.

“You treat me so well Pariston.” You say softly. “Thank you.”

Pariston smirks as he silently kisses the top of your head, squeezing your sides.

He had you right where he wanted you.

14. Meruem

Okay. There’s a reason why Meruem is at the last list. He’s an ant. He’s not even fully human FML. Can’t believe people wanna fuck this teenaged mutant ninja ant. Can’t even say those people are a furry because this ant has no fur. It’s a no for me. 

13. Illumi

The Illumi simps are gonna hack me for having him too low. I find him cute and has really nice hair that can be for shampoo ads... but his eyes... it covers 70% of his face. It’s guppy eyes. It’s like he wore those coloured contact lenses that enlarges the eyes. 

12. Shalnark

OKay. Shalnark is cute. He’s really one of the most good looking guys in the series. However, I don’t know why but his personality is kinda “ehh”. He’s a little psycho who controls people with his phone, but somehow his personality is overshadowed by a lot of extreme characters with Hisoka. Also, I try not to get too attached to him because of what happens in the current arc. 

11. Kite

Okay. This is weird but... I find Kite more attracted when he’s a red-headed female ant right now. Okay. I know I went all like “MERUEM ISNT EVEN HUMAN” but female Kite LOOKS human. She has freckles and all that. It’s real cute. But I’d say he’s a little lower because he doesn’t really have that “oomph” personality so-

10. Pariston

Now, talk about a character with FABULOUS presentation of himself. Pariston shows himself off with extravagance. NOW, that’s a personality. He’s like one of those celebs that are just so extra like Lady Gaga that it’s amazing. I know he’s underrated in the simping world, but he’s essentially kinda like Hisoka (who has a big simping fandom), only he prefers to play with people’s minds rather than fight people. 

9. Tserriednich

You might be wondering, why the fuck is he here? Okay, first of all, he reminds me of Hannibal who is by the way, charming. And yes I mean it in the Mads Mikkelsen AND the Anthony Hopkins way. Makes me wanna his Clarice but I’d rather have Theta have that spot. Secondly, he’s a prince so being his bride is literally a dream come true. Thirdly, yeh, Tserriednich is actually very handsome. Nice blond hair and that facial beard. 

8. Gon

He’s quite low on the tier because I had always seen him as a cute green mini-Ging. Personality-wise, he’s really sweet and I can see a lot of girls liking him because he knows how to treat women respectfully. He can even handle the crazy ones like Palm. His alpha side came out during the Chimera Ant arc and his adult form is hella attractive. 

Jokes aside, this character is really amazing as an MC. It’s sad that he gets overshadowed but I believe he’s a pretty unique shounen MC because most of the time, a shounen MC doesn’t kill or has a pretty much black-and-white morality. Gon Freecss breaks that stereotype and he’s truly appreciated. 

7. Leorio 

Listen to me. This man is supposed to be the type of man you’re supposed to marry. Doctor, loyal, caring and funny. This man is the total package. I think the reason why he’s a little lower in my simp tier is because well... he’s the type of guy that I will go for in reality. In fiction, that’s where all my crushes for crazy guys should be. My simp tier is based on my heart, not brain. 

6. Killua

Okay. I was down bad for Killua when I was younger. DOWN BAD. So down bad that it was scary. I sort of got over him now. But what can you do? Killua is simped by a lot of teenaged girls or women who had a crush on him since the beginning of time. He’s fiercely loyal, has white hair and pretty blue eyes, is a fun mixture of mischief and seriousness. He’s the type of guy you can count on to get out of trouble and one to always treasure you. I do think that if I ever meet Killua though, that he’d bully me to oblivion.

5. Hisoka

I kinda do understand Hisoka stans, but at the same time, I do not get them. Like him or not, he’s a very flamboyant character. He stands out of the crowd and he just have that unexplained charisma. 

He’s actually a really well-written character. He’s the balancing factor in the narrative of HxH. He’s like the joker in the deck of cards. Back to my simp tier, he’s very attractive ESPECIALLY with his hair down. There’s a certain aura that is addictive about him that I can’t pin-point. And for that, he earns my top 5 spot.

4. Feitan

I swear. This simping phenomenon actually manifested from Hiei. Yes, Feitan’s character blueprint, Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho. (The real OGs will know that Hiei is the character blueprint, not Levi). I know a lot of people compare him to Levi but let me explain why Levi and Feitan are alike: it’s because their character blueprint is Hiei. 

Anyway, Hiei is HOT. And to me, the hxh equivalent is Feitan, with a huge addition of sadism and emo-ness. Okay, that makes it even hotter. 

I have read some Feitan/Reader on AO3 and BOI. I enjoyed reading certain stuff that I never thought I would enjoy. I read a fic about Reader-chan getting whipped and basically all sorts of BDSM and OMG it’s heaven.

3. Chrollo

At first, I didn’t really care about Chrollo until he wore that tuxedo and let his hair down (Is it just me or a lot of hxh boys look good with their hair down?). HE LOOKS SO GODLY HOLY FUCK.

I’m 100% sure that his character blueprint for the hair-down is Koenma. He also gives me Tuxedo Mask vibes. Overall, such chivalry and handsomeness all in one man. Not to mention, that sexy sexy voice when he recites his fortune-telling. I would say he has the sexiest voice among all hxh guys. He is just that HOT and charismatic. I wanna see where he hid that Spider tattoo and scratch his back. 

2. Ging

Okay. Ging is hardly simp by girls. And I do not understand why?? He is motherfucking attractive. Even now. GAWD. I love him.

I think my attraction to him pre-started because he looks and acts SO much like my childhood crush Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho. I know he’s an asshat but he’s a CHARMING asshat. Yeap, I said it. He is actually highly intelligent and just acts like a total haggard because he can. 

It’s not just when he’s young. I STILL think he’s hot even in his 30s. He’s not that old for me to me honest. I don’t care if he’s a decade older than me because I think that’s the appeal of it. I

It’s kinda sad that he’s not that popular because I need some Ging/Reader smut content. Like, I envisioned a smut fic where the reader is like in her 20s and is strangely attracted to Ging. He’s wildly confused over this but he’s seriously considering of tapping it because his old ass haven’t had any action lately. Ging didn’t look like the kind of company that Pariston would keep. And he didn’t keep him. Because no one got to keep him.

Pariston liked the city. He liked the constant noise, the different sights, sounds and smells to take in. But most of all he liked the people, in all their beautiful and vile variations. From the up-and-coming popstar that was wearing her new wealth on her sleeve, to the plain elderly gentleman covered in scars sipping calmly on some whiskey, a high-end restaurant like this one was a beautiful gathering ground for personalities of all kinds.

He wondered what others saw when they looked at him, what they would notice first. His blond hair that he tried to comb to perfection? His newest suit, a vermillion designer piece with a subtle sparkle in just the right light? His spotless black leather shoes? Or the man seated across from him, whose palm he was mindlessly tracing with a finger, dressed in an ill fitted cheap suit, 5 o’clock shadow with tired eyes and wild hair?

Ging didn’t look like the kind of company that Pariston would keep. And he didn’t keep him. Because no one got to keep him. He was always on the move, always enticed by some far away treasure he wanted to discover, some dusty cave he wanted to explore.

When they met for the first time, introduced through Netero as if it were an arranged playdate, Ging smelled of the sea, salty and airy. The time after that, he smelled of the jungle, all moist earth rich wood.

But nowadays he smelled more of the city, because even though Pariston couldn’t keep Ging, he stuck around on his own accord. His trips had gotten shorter, merely days before he’d reappear on the others doorstep, asking for coffee, a shower, and a bed. Going out for dinner together had become a weekly ritual, other days just spent in Paristons apartment cooking together.

No one expected the two of them to get along so well, but they formed a terrifying team during Zodiac meetings, personalities coiling around each other in pointless arguments that could go on for hours, driving the other Zodiacs mad (Something the two of them greatly enjoyed). It was after one of those hours long pointless discussions, that Gings hand had lingered for just a second too long on the nape of Paristons neck, their eyes locked on each other like hunter and prey.

“What’re you thinking about?” Gings rough voice pulled Pariston back into the moment, and he finally stopped tracing circles into the open palm.

“Our first kiss.”

“Getting nostalgic already?” Ging smirked, and Pariston just let out a light laugh, his head tilted to the side.

“I’m too young and handsome to be nostalgic about anything.” He looked out of the large window of the restaurant, onto the rainy city below. It was most likely one of the last spring showers before the summer would unfold. A bitter taste spread through his mouth, though his smile didn’t fade.

“Are you going to go out to sea this year again?” He thought about Ging leaving and he didn’t want to sound insulted or clingy, though he was also thinking about an empty apartment and boring evenings.

“Would you miss me?” Ging was obviously hiding something, his smirk widening in satisfaction.

“I’d miss your cooking, not your pile of dirty laundry.” They laughed, and Pariston mindlessly intertwined their fingers.

“I’m not leaving, Paris.”

“You aren’t?” He felt Gings grip tighten around his fingers, and his beautiful golden-brown eyes mustered him like a hidden treasure, only meant for his sight. Don’t you ever dare look away, Pariston thought, I want these eyes only for me, only on me.

“If you’ll let me stay, I will.” Gings thumb started tracing circles over Paristons individual fingers, slow and patient starting with the thumb. “I could cook whatever you’d like for you, and we could get kicked out of every single restaurant in the city.”  Index finger. “We can watch all those art movies you like, and all the documentaries I like, comfortable on the couch.” Middle finger. “If I end up missing the sea, we can just rent a beach house at the coast.” Ring finger. “If you’ll have me.”

“Ging?” The room fell silent, as Ging left his seat and went down on one knee, holding Paristons hands as if it might break from just a slightly wrong touch. In his free hand, a sparkling golden ring.

“Pariston Hill, will you marry me?”

From the young popstar, to the scarred man at the bar, to all the waiters in the restaurant, everyone’s eyes were on them. But Gings eyes were only on Pariston. As they are supposed to be.

He hesitated for a moment, taking in the transfixed faces of the onlookers, as if his decision would affect their life in any way. The only one who didn’t seem tense was Ging, fully aware that the other one would want a scene, for better or for worse.

Finally, he presented his fingers with a satisfied smile, eyes glistening as his fiancé slipped the ring upon his finger.

“Yes, always yes.”

And as the crowd started clapping, and Ging kissed Paristons lips so sickly sweetly, it hit Pariston.

Being married wasn’t bad. The ceremony had been a small, private celebration. Neither Pariston nor Ging were exactly thrilled to invite family, so they chose not to. Pariston insisted on having the picture that was taken during their vows framed and hung in the living room, as a proof that Ging could look presentable if he tried, and Ging would kiss him and tell him that he’ll try again next time they get married.

Not much had changed from their regular lives. They were already sharing a bed, the little possessions Ging had were already spread throughout the apartment, and they were still taking their time discussing formalities during Zodiac meetings (Though the other Zodiacs would testify that it had gotten worse).

But somehow it still felt more intimate now whenever Ging would absentmindedly kiss the ring on Paristons finger or refer to him in passing as his “Husband”. Neither ever got tired of that word. The first few nights after they had officially gotten married, Pariston would roll over in bed, and ask for Ging to say it again, just to hear his voice and know its real.

“You’re my Husband.”

“Again.”

“You’re my Husband, and I love you, Paris.”

“Again.”

“My Husband needs to let me sleep if he wants French toast in the morning.”

“That’s fair~”

Pariston started getting used to being a morning person, bribed with a fresh espresso and breakfast of his choice. Old habits die hard, and Gings biorhythm clock would chase him out of bed at 5 am the latest, leaving his husband half asleep in bed until breakfast was ready to be served.

“Am I spoiling you too much? You probably already forgot how to cook yourself.”

Pariston tugged a napkin into the collar of his suit as not to let any maple syrup soil it. “Why would I need to stress myself with cooking, if I have a husband who’ll do it so lovingly for me~”

“I’m afraid you’re gonna starve to death, or just start living off of greasy take out, next time I leave.”

“Just don’t leave. Or at least take me with you.”

They didn’t look at each other, and the room fell cold. He wants to leave. The blond discarded his Napkin and stack of half-eaten French toast, followed by a lax wave of the hand. “Just kidding.”

Before his husband could reply, he had left the apartment. Newly appointed vice chairman, his very own agency, Zodiac work; He had a lot on his plate to keep him busy and distracted, because he was an efficient, capable worker. Chairman Netero didn’t seem to mind that his new right hand had a tendency to take on tasks beyond his position, and never questioned any ulterior motives, despite an obvious difference in political opinions and directions.

The night Pariston came home after their small confrontation, Ging greeted him with a set of car keys, both of their things packed, and a smirk. “Come to the coast with me.”

Ging seemed happier at the beach house. He didn’t seem unhappy back in the city apartment, but after a few weeks by the seaside, his skin tone had gotten richer, his smile more radiant, his eyes brighter. He smelled again like the first time that Pariston had met him, and every kiss had a faint salty smell to it. They started eating more fish, freshly caught by Ging each day.

As his husband started to thrive, Pariston withered. He thought himself a fool for moving closer to the mistress of the love of his life. Because no matter how often Ging would say he loved him, he saw his golden eyes search across the horizon.

“You’re my harbour, Paris.” He’d whisper in his ear, tired and drifting. But he didn’t want to be a harbour. He didn’t want to be a place to come back to after weeks to months out in the world. Ging wasn’t as much of a fool as others made him out to be, he wouldn’t get himself killed out there, he’d always come back safe.

But Pariston wanted to keep him safe right here. Not let him escape, refuse his longing for the mysteries that other places keep.

He pulled his husband closer to him and pressed a kiss on his messy hair. “More of a prison, really.”

It was bound to happen, he thought to himself, all good things must come to an end.

The signs were all there. It was the last few days of the summer, a golden autumn reared its head in the distance, Ging had gotten quieter. Going out for fishing took longer and longer. Every kiss felt agonizingly long and sad. But he said everything was fine. Denied any hurt or misplaced feelings. All Pariston could do was hold him tighter at night, his fingers tangled in unkempt black hair. “Please don’t hurt me, Ging,” his voice unheard in the darkness of their bedroom “Or I will have to hurt you worse.”

Pariston awoke alone in the big bed, his husbands’ side already cold. It was dead silent in the house. His chest tightened as he left the bedroom and stepped into the large living area. He hoped to find Ging cooking. Maybe ask how he’d like his eggs this morning, an espresso already waiting for him.

Empty. The house was cold and empty.

The first autumn rain started hitting against the windows, a gentle pitter-patter quickly escalating to large, loud droplets that sounded like bullets on impact with the glass.

Slowly he walked towards the dining island, on it a single card with Gings signature crude handwriting.

“I’m so sorry.” Next to it, his wedding ring.

This was bound to happen, echoed in his head. Pariston took the abandoned ring, mustered all the little details of wear on it. Just as he brought the cold material to his lips, he noticed the tears rolling down his cheeks.

This was bound to happen, and it still hurts.

The rest of that day, Pariston let his practiced perfect-ness slip, hidden from the judgement of the outside.  He drank the bottle of wine the two of them had bought on the day of their engagement, there was no need to save it anymore, and he sat on the couch that the two of them had shared for many loving moments, and he cried.

But as the sun crept up the horizon again, the mourning period was over.

He cancelled the contract on the beach house and hired a moving company to bring his things back to his apartment in the city. The beach house was infested with Gings smells and memories, and there is one reliable way to deal with an infestation.

He threw all of Gings possessions, clothes and pictures and books and trinkets, on the beach, and burned them. The large flame of the fire complimented the darkening horizon, and he took a picture with his phone, committed to send it to Ging as soon as he got hold of his new number.

Back in the city, he put all his time into his work, into his political standing and power in the association.

Ging was bound to return, and Pariston needed to make sure he’d return to see Pariston thriving. Thriving and in more control than he’s ever been and maybe ever should be.

OKAY I know what you’re thinking “but the clown is such a slut, surely he should be first on this list.”  Okay I get that.  And it’s true- when he’s looking to get laid, Hisoka’s standards aren’t all that high.  Got a pulse?  Yeah?  You’re good.  However, the clown isn’t always looking to get laid.  Sometimes he’s just looking for a fight, or he just wants to build card houses in peace.  If you catch him in one of those moods, then you’re going to have to work a little harder to get him into bed.  Being strong helps.

This may be surprising, but this dude is actually always dtf.  He’s just got so much energy to expend, so if you find him when he’s in not in the middle of stealing/killing/maiming, then he’ll immediately accept your offer.  Especially if it’s no strings attached.

2. Sedokan

Okay, this seems like such a cop out, since I zeroed in on one of the most minor characters ever (for those who don’t know, he’s the dude in trick tower who tried to fool Gon with the candles) but LISTEN!  Before he was incarcerated, this dude got around.  Honestly, he probably would still get around if he could, but I think it’s hard for prisoners in the HxH verse to do so.

Yep, you heard me correctly.  The biggest slut in all of HxH is none other than the Bad Dad™ himself.  This might be unexpected, because we know he hates people and is always running away from responsibilities (like his goddamn SON) but Ging actually is pretty easy to get into bed.  You just have to FIND him first.  If you stumble upon him in a bar or somewhere, though, you have a pretty high chance of getting him to sleep with you.  You just have to prove that you’re only looking for sex, you’re not sleeping with him because of his fame as a hunter, and you’re not Pariston in disguise.

pariston arrived home late to his cushy beverly hills mansion. he had just gotten back from a busy day at the hunters association office and he was absolutely exhausted- all he wanted to do was nestle up in his 3000 count egyptian silk sheets and go to bed. his plans would soon change, however, when he noticed he had an unexpected guest waiting in his living room.

“what are you doing here?” pariston asked.

“to see you i wanted” the stranger replied, avoiding eye contact.

“yoda. we’ve talked about this. you can’t keep showing up to my house unannounced. the next time you do, ill have to change the locks”

the small little green man sat up from the sofa and turned towards pariston. 

“you, i thought this was the only way to reach”

“so you broke into my house?”

yoda nodded.

“hmph. you were always so persistent. normally i would’ve found that charming, but now...”

the house was filled with a palpable, awkward silence. pariston had just reopened a deep wound and he knew it. 

“... you pariston i still love”

those words hit pariston like a bag of bricks. he wanted nothing more then to leap into his arms and be whisked away by the jedi master, but his brain told him otherwise.

“you know im with someone else now. you need to move on”

this much was true. since their messy breakup 3 months ago, pariston had found a new lover- a man named ging freecss. ging had been pariston’s coworker for several years and, while they were dating, yoda couldn’t help but feel as though there was something going on between the two of them. pariston reassured him that these doubts were unfounded and that he was the only man for him. this was one of the many, many lies pariston had told him. despite all the lies, however, yoda still desperately wanted the rat man back. he knew that ging was just a warm body- a plug for the hole the 2′2 green man once filled. what he and pariston had- it was real. it was real, and he desperately wanted it back.

“i can’t move on.  the only one for me, you are”

pariston paused for a moment, looked deeply into yoda’s- now wet- orbs, winced, and then turned away. god. it hurt so much to hurt him. but he had to. after all, his heart belonged to another. 

“please... just go yoda”

yo!! dunno if u already answered that, but what do u think abt hxh 1999? honestly, i watched 2011 before 1999 but i... love 1999 a bit more. i really love this dark atmosphere and somehow i rlly love the voice actors too? also. the beautiful filler arc, god that was so feels!!! .. i rlly love the 1999 version haha. if u already answered that, feel free to link ur answer >.o and if u havent, im rlly curious abt ur reply!!!

I hadn’t watched 1999 yet but i admit i’m. Not exactly found of what i’ve seen so far. I saw a few scenes here and there, mostly thanks to tumblr, or some scenes people showed me. 

In term of ambiance and atmosphere, i understand why people love it - i’m myself not exactly fan of all of the color palette of 2011, but I don’t get into 1999′s either soo i’m a little torn about it. I think the animation is really great for 1999, and it has some nice fillers i guess. 

 The Voice acting is really great but I personally really love the 2011′s voices too much : i’m seriously in love with the 2011!Kurapika’s voice and even if i find the 1999′s voice amazing, it’s not the same. Leorio, in 2011, is voiced by a seiyuu who’s work i’m a fan of, and the VA of Gon and Killua make such a good job I have a hard time with getting involved in the new voices. Hisoka’s va was incredible in 1999 (for the record, he ended up voicing Pariston in 2011), but I find the 2011 version to be closer from the character and far more threatening. (the only reason i’m actively mentioning the VA is that i watched the musical and got accostumed to their voices, but it still doesn’t work as much for me)

But I’m a manga purist. I’ve always been a lot more based on the manga and I admit i really cringe to major changes, even if they’re not bad.  (hell i complain about the very few things 2011 changed all the time. I seriously complain all the time. Even changes that are actually cute like how they added the 50 hours in the tower, i still bitch about it and how the slight change they made to canon to make it worse lessened the impact of a latter scene.).

Fanservice is all fine and great but Idk, i’m in here because of the manga storyline, not exactly for what’s added in general. I don’t actively like fanservice. It makes me roll my eyes more than anything. 

From what I’ve seen, there’s a few things I don’t exactly like. Killua is a little different and everytime i see something especially in the early arcs, I feel really like it’s not exactly the Killua I like. There’s seriously scenes i’ve seen of him in 1999 that I can’t stand and that I don’t find endearing at all, especially in comparaison to his manga’s counterpart.

While I understand that the story felt the need to add, say, Gon’s breakdown after Hisoka saved him in the forest and Kurapika’s meltdown after killing Uvogin, I think it’s a little overkill in comparaison to how the manga handled it. (That being said the Kurapika’s meltdown is at least well, based on some details that even the 2011 anime overlooked. I can see it happen. But I still prefer the subtility of the 2011 anime that fits much more the manga’s tone. And it’s not that it’s absent, it’s just that it’s subtle. For Gon’s though, I really think this is ways too much.)

And I’m sorry i’m terrible, but i’m not exactly found of most of the leopika fanservice? A few things i’ve seen plays a lot on tropes i don’t exactly like, and it’s not like 1999 includes the scenes from the manga that made me love them to start with. (which is also so unreal to me bc once someone told me a lot of people say they like Leopika only because of 1999 and i’m just like. What. No. Why. The manga is great it doesn’t need..... *waves* this. I like the concept say of the phonecall at the end of the show to be sweet (even if... kinda laughable to me) and i like Leorio worrying about Kurapika or Kurapika smiling at him (okay that I can get behind) but some stuff....... I just can’t.)

And mostly I admit I grew a little irrited at this version after a lot of people i’ve seen tried to bring down the 2011 anime in regard of the 1999 anime, and usually that’s the worst because if it starts to seriously irritate me, i end up turning this irritation on the show rather than the fans (usually if i really dislike stuff, this is because of how it had been compared to stuff i like). Because like, the 1999 anime is really not sticking to canon all that much, the changes it does to the characters ends up affecting the storyline, that they want it or not, and that’s the kind of things that usually tickles me the wrong way. (and in the wrong way also when 2011 does that don’t get me wrong, but it’s not as much as in 1999.)

One day I’ll need to seriously watch the show and maybe those stuff will be better for me once in context and once I will be detached enough from the manga to get into it, but so far i have ways too much irritation over it. One of the only scene I really liked in the 1999 vers more than 2011 so far is Kurapika’s reaction to the auction for the eyes, but that’s it.  I’m glad they kept some stuff like the door trials that the 2011 anime completely glossed over, and that at least this version of the anime respected Leorio as a character (fuck you 2011), and at least adapted the first chapter correctly.

But overrall, everytime i see something about 1999 I cannot disconnect from the manga and I cannot get into it. I’m too much of a canon!purist for that and I love to think too much about the implications and stuff the manga is hinting at, and i don’t like how some changes just, change the narrative around or change those hints. (which is a problem i also have with some scenes of 2011, but like, i complain about maybe 5% of the 2011 anime, the stuff that angers me in the 1999 anime takes...a  lot more of the anime.)

Then again, I know it’s because I love the manga too much and think too much about it. One day if i am in a mood to disconnect from the manga, i’ll try to watch 1999. It’s just another interpretation. Hell I enjoyed watching the Musical while it was not exactly in the spirit of the manga (.... then again the Musical didn’t pretend to be as such), so i should seriously give a try to 1999. 

I don’t think i’ll ever get to really think i prefer it to 2011 though since I care about canon much more than fanservice and filler. 

But I know that’s just me, I know that’s because of how and what i like about the manga to start with. I totally get why people love 1999, I truly do, this is a great show.

I just personally can’t.

Kite relationship HCs (SFW)

Ok so I definitely think that guy could be a distant partner. Not because he doesn’t care though, but just, in his behaviour, he’s very independent and busy and he’d kinda keep doing his thing even if he was with someone.

Now he would love if his partner was into the same shit he is, like they’d go on hikes, explore the world together, try and find Ging too. I feel like he’d love if they could follow him wherever he goes. It wouldn’t feel like you guys are a couple though, more like just friends, on a team. He wouldn’t really act different. I mean that’s good, he likes the more natural, unspoken agreement that you love each other and hence don’t need to show it much. It’s a bit weird because I do also think that sometimes he’d want to show it a lot more, like engage in PDA and such. It would be at pretty random times and his partner wouldn’t be used to this at all. Kite is pretty cold usually. 

So that being said, he’d prefer a partner that knows how to handle their own I think, that would put him at ease.

Nah but I think the whole chemistry thing with a partner would work, like a lot of things would become implicit, because he’d know them very well and he doesn’t feel like he needs words to express what he wants to say. He’s very good at that actually.

Oh but I could also see him as someone that doesn’t sugar coat things either. So sometimes he’d seem a bit harsh for no reason. It’s just the way he talks, and if there’s something he doesn’t like he’ll tell them.

I'm really worried about Leorio in this arc. Like he hasn't seen half the shit Kurapika's been through and not even a quarter of half the shit Killua and Gon have been through. And this arc seems like/was stated to be even worse than the chimera ant arc? He's gonna get thrust in the middle of all of it! Thought it might also be his time to shine. Kurapika's def gonna get hurt and while he can heal himself normally he won't be able to if he's passed out/weakened from emperor time.

Yeee definitly agreed. Some shits are going to go down and that’s going to be hard.

I love Kurapika with all my heart but tbh I really wanted this arc to be more Leorio centric. I’m still a bit frustrated we didn’t get much of him, but I think the arc can set up a few things for him now if the storyline takes it.

and if it does? Leorio is going to suffer.

The thing is that, I think the main four are complementary in a sort of way when it comes to their respective trauma. Gon’s was dormant and truly kicked in in the CA arc when everything happened to Kite. He actively tried to confront that trauma and it ended badly. Killua’s was always kinda there and is still there, without exactly being addressed directly by Killua - he’s slowly recovering without exactly realizing it since it’s just by being away from a toxic environment that he’s doing better.Kurapika's trauma is still vivid and active and he’s completely aware of it, and he deals with it with the most unhealthy ways possible, and like Gon he tries to confront him.

If we go by that logic, Leorio’s trauma happened officially pre-canon with the death of his friend, and he had tried to recover as much as possible in the most healthy ways (how he’s becoming a doctor to prevent this loss to happen again). 

Out of the Four, it’s true Leorio is the one who suffered the least, and he’s the one who moved on from the trauma that kickstarted his plotline - as much as we can say, he recovered. 

Which is in itself a good theme when it comes down to it, but since it’s not exactly exploited by the narrative, it’s not exactly obvious and I doubt it was meant to be a point in itself but more a set up.

If it is a set up, we saw already a bit of payoff thus far. The multiple times he worred about Kurapika before the end of the York New Arc and grew concerned was one part, and his direct reaction to almost losing Gon was extremely frightening for him. It’s eventually what led him to ask the Zodiacs if they could find a way to get to Kurapika. 

I think that, at this point of the story, Leorio is more worried for his friends than ever. In the begining of the story he mostly focuses on his goal, becoming a doctor in order to be able to prevent the harm that could happen to people, but he ended up feeling extremely guilty in the Election arc where, after all this studying, he still wasn’t there when his friends were suffering, and he couldn’t have done anything to prevent it - and now again he was powerless.

Even when Gon wakes up Leorio still feels guilty for not having been there when all those troubles with Killua and Gon happened - he mentions it especially when Gon mentions the “horrible things” he said to Killua, which means more than saving his life, Leorio wanted to have been here to prevent all those bad things to happen, to even talk with them if possible.

Which is imo why he tried to reach out for Kurapika a bit more and ended up asking the Zodiac for a favor - because he wasn’t there previously and his friends ended up near death. And it’s all good to be able to help people, but if you’re not there when it happens, what’s the point?

I’m still a little unsure about that because as much as i love Leorio caring for his friends, I would have loved a more “Leorio-centric” narrative, but as the story is going on, I wonder if the catalyst won’t be even more harm happening to his closed ones and eventually re-traumatizing him, and having him try to do something about it.

That’s why I’ve kinda been thinking that Kurapika may not die but will be badly harmed by the end of the arc and it may bring oil on the fire for Leorio. But at the same time i’m still a bit doubtful, because a repetitive narrative can be either extremely clever as parallelism, or downright stupid because it’s basically the same thing. But it’s been in the back of my mind for a while, since it would find a place among Leorio’s themes in general.

Personally, I would wish to see him more involved with the Zodiacs and uses his political position as a means to an end. I would love to see more of his training too, but I don’t have any precise idea of where it could go from that point on in order to explore that.

All i still wish for though, is that - Leorio is supposed to be busy on the lower levels of the ship. Kurapika is dealing with the princes now, but Leorio is down there, far from the political fighting.

Mizai had said that riots started happening on the lower levels, and I want to know if it’s going to bring somewhere, especially with Leorio who’s after all, working in that aera. It would be an opportunity to open up a plot line for him.

If we can’t have a totally centric Leorio arc like I wish, there’s still the fact the Troupe and Hisoka are also on those lower levels. At best, Leorio could get involved because he knows them and can try to come up with ways to limitate the damages (also it could also finally explore why Hisoka took an interest on him in the Hunter Exam by having those two at least having a conversation.). At worst, if it’s not entierely Leorio-centric, he could be worried that learning the Troupe is on board would be of harm for Kurapika and try to deal with it for it.

Regardless, I still believe the arc will be divided in, well, 3 for now. First part was the introduction we saw so far, until the departure of the boat, second would be the Succession War and everything happening on the Boat to the Dark Continent. Lastly, the Exploration of the Dark Continent itself.

I think it may be why the likes of Ging and Pariston hadn’t been seen again since the Succession War sub-arc started. The introduction would have set the players for the following arcs, and the Dark Continent exploration would be a complete different story.

Kurapika’s entiere purpose for participating in that arc is the Succession War (which again is one of the reason I think he’ll be out of commission by the end of this pat). Leorio, however, promised to help alongside Cheadle with every means he could, and I believe it might be that he’ll therefore be a more major player in the Exploration of the Dark Continent itself.

Whenever it would be to further his own storyline, which i really hope for, or to help wounded friends (after all, one of the wonders of the Dark Continent includes a rice that makes you life longer, that would come handy), i think Leorio would have more of a plotline in the Dark Continent Itself.

(especially even more if the Dark Continent would head up into a commentary about collonialism the way the CA arc had a commentary about war, and that I think (really take it with a grain of salt bc it’s something i’ve been thinking to myself for a while) that therefore Nanika’s powers could have been a forshadow of the commentary itself - for your selfish gain you will only get suffering, a suffering the next people involved, regardless of their own intend, will pay even harder, but if you’re there because you want to help, if you work it out of love, either toward the land/the person or toward the people you’re trying to help, you may find a welcome. I think it was stated that the guardian of the DC wouldn’t let a lot of people in, and we saw the scientific team talking about the DC only see horrors from the people who came back - yet apparently Don Freecss, who embrassed and loved the new land, could benefits from its goodness.)(and i’m completely overanalysing so don’t take that part any seriously until we get any confirmation, because for now we don’t know anything.)

Also the Zodiac are planning on letting all the people on the Boat (aside from those who are actively working on the exploration of the dark continent) into an Unknown Continent, I suppose eventually a few stuff could happen there, at least as it would come to organize the people who will be brought there.

I’m really scared for what’s to come though because ye, it seems to be going in a dark path, and things are going to get tense. And I worry too that Leorio’s “lack of drama” (for lack of better word) will eventually backlash on him getting even worse on his head.

The problem is that so far the most I can think about is him reacting to his friends and... While on one way I consider it to be in character, and it’s not a shame for character to be dedicated to their friends (a lot of Killua’s storyline centers a lot more around helping Gon that it does on his own goal, textually so. And Leorio’s goal is, as a mean to an end, a way to help people, among those, his friends.). 

On the other, I would love a storyline that would explore much more about Leorio, first because I really want to see him evolve and see him going through stuff, and second because I don’t want to hear anything about how he’s not interesting or useless or any Bad Word Of The Month people use on him. And the sad truth is that people who’s goal are usually really “caring” centric are often sidelined, both by the narrative and the fandom, more than once.

So in recap, i do think he’ll get involved in the plotline and he will end up getting in danger in one way or another. But I also believe he will be more involved either with the Zodiac or with the Exploration, and maybe with the Riots on the boat, which could be an excellent opportunity to explore much, much more of him. Even if you have to use other people’s suffering to come there, i just wish at least it wouldn’t break him.

I’m still hopeful for Leorio’s involvement and story arc, but ye, there’s no way it will happen without suffering. Brace for it.

All of that being said, there’s still a lot this arc has to offer and Togashi had always managed to surprise us in one way or another, and he always added stuff to the scenario that we couldn’t exactly anticipate. Notice that all I say is my overanalysis of current information that might be completely wrong after a next update because of new elements. I totally believe Togashi can be completely misleading, and that he will bring the story where it has to be brought and that it will be interesting.  But we can’t predict it, even with all the amount of overinterpretation one can use.

Saw irl friends, we watched from ep 136 (the last ep of the CA arc) to episode 142 (middle of the Election arc)

-There was the Kite’s reveal, and their eyes went wide and they stared speechless. until A yelled : “CHECK YOUR SOURCES DONT JUMP ON THE INFO”

-A: “If only there was an adult to take care of those kids” T: “like Netero?” Me: “Netero encouraged them on the battlefield” A: “the only responsible adult of the manga was Tsezugera”

-As Pariston is introduced: A: “he doesnt seem liked….”

-they both remember what he pulled in the ca good

-tHEY KEEP CALLING PARISTON MACRON IM YELLING Macron is the current french president and most of Pariston political speech reminded them of him this is terrible, down to the fact he dresses pretty and charms people while he’s full of shit.

-I explained the thing Hisoka did with his hand and all, but at the same time they were kinda cheering since it was to help out Killua. It’s terrible how Hisoka helps by being super gross.

-A: “I’m pretty sure one day Hisoka dragged Illumi to go shopping and that’s why he’s dressed like him.”

-they think the arc was pretty intense so far. They were shocked when Gotoh died because it was quite sudden.

-They find Alluka cute but they still find it impressive that she’s actually more dangerous when cute than when she is Nanika

-about Amane and Canary: “they’re too badass to be straight. At least now we’re sure they’ll survive.”

So so far we’re just starting up the arc and it’s going rather smoothly. We will finish the show next time :’D
