What a difference 40 years makes juxtaposition of Fiat Panda 4x4, 1983 & Fiat Panda 4x40°, 2023. A special edition of 1983 cars to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Fiat's all wheel drive Panda. The Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed first edition Panda 4x4 was significant because it was the first series production car to combine a transverse front engine and 4 wheel drive. The drivetrain was suppled by Austrian company Steyr-Puch.

A Rare 4x4 Volkswagen Syncro Kombi 16"
The Volkswagen Syncro was a series of 4×4 vans developed by the German automaker in collaboration with the four-wheel drive experts over at Steyr-Daimler-Puch. They were often converted into camper vans, and with the exception of Antarctica there’s no continent they haven’t traversed. The Syncro offered much improved off-road ability compared to the standard Type 2 van, and they remain in…

The Shah of Iran influenced the creation of the G-Wagon. First produced in 1979, the G-Wagon got its name from the German word Geländewagen, which colloquially means 'cross country vehicle'. This box-shaped SUV was first commissioned by the Shah of Iran, who was at the time a significant shareholder of Mercedes. The entire journey from being used as a military vehicle to being considered a liability for the company, the G-Wagon saw many ups and downs before finally transforming into a modern-day favorite of many consumers and celebrities. The genesis for the G-Wagon came out of an unrelated but massive 20,000-truck order from the Shah of Iran in the 1970s. Again a significant shareholder in Mercedes at the time, the Shah's order also stood for a tempting deal. To fulfill the Shah's requirements, the carmaker required external help in its production phase. This led to Mercedes collaborating with Steyr-Daimler-Puch, a military equipment manufacturer based in Austria. Mercedes further extended this collaboration when the Shah suggested that the vehicle be built as an all-wheel-drive SUV for military use in his empire. Are you a fan of the G-Wagon? General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) unveiled the ASCOD infantry fighting vehicle equipped with the Trophy active protection system at the Black Sea Defence and Aerospace (BSDA) exhibition held from May 22-24 in Bucharest. The BSDA exhibition provides a platform for GDELS to showcase this cutting-edge technology to military officials and defense industry representatives. Romania has a budget of $3.3 billion for 298 infantry fighting vehicles. According to local observers and public information, the potential candidates are the ASCOD 2, the Hanwha AS-21 Redback, and the Rheinmetall KF-41 Lynx. The award procedure is ongoing, a winner will be selected in 2024, and the contract should also be signed in 2024. The ASCOD (Austrian Spanish Cooperation Development) infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) family is the product of a cooperation agreement between Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG and Spanish General Dynamics Santa Bárbara Sistemas. Both companies are now divisions of a unit of General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS). The ASCOD family includes the LT 105 light tank equipped with a 105 mm gun, a surface-to-air missile launcher, an anti-tank guided missile launcher, mortar carrier, R&R vehicle, command-and-control vehicle, ambulance, artillery observer, and the AIFV model. In Spanish Army service, the vehicle is called "Pizarro". The Austrian Army version is called "Ulan". #military #defense #defence #militaryleak

1939 Steyr 55 "Baby"... Manufactured in Steyr, Austria. The original company, Josef und Franz Werndl and Company, was founded in 1864 and manufactured rifles. In 1894 they added bicycles to their product line. In 1918 they started manufacturing automobiles. In 1926 they changed their name to Steyr-Werke AG. In 1934 they combined with Austro-Daimler and Puch to become Steyr-Daimler-Puch. During WWII, Austria was part of the "Third Reich" and Steyr became part of the infamous "Reichswerke Hermann Goering" industrial complex. After WWII, when Austria regained its independence, Steyr built diesel engined trucks and buses, small and heavy tractors and resumed passenger car production. Due to their experience in manufacturing weapons, they also added a line of "sporting goods" including rifles, pistols, knives, parts, clothing and other gear. The company went defunct in 2001 selling off its various divisions, etc. The "sporting goods" division is still in business but, due to US Congressional BS, few if any of their weapons can be imported to the US.
