This is a background story for my fic "twenty love poems (and a song of despair)", but it might stand on its own. It takes maybe two minutes for Kendall Roy and Stewy Hosseini to win each other over at the age of seven. Stewy can't ever remember the conversation years later, but the words spoken almost don't matter, because the most important thing they learned is that the rest of the school could never understand either of them in the way they understand each other without even trying. It takes two weeks for them to have their own jokes that the whole world is locked out of ever decoding, and a full month before Kendall pulls Stewy over to one of his family's many properties to just hang out on the grass looking at comic books and talking like they've known each other forever. At that point, the whole world knows, and they're not trying to pretend. This is real and no one's getting in between them.
