Passover is in a few weeks! So - I will be demonstrating some special family holiday recipes on March 20th at Temple Beth El in Stamford, CT. We seem to have more crab apples this year than we know what to do with. Did you know a crab apple is just a normal apple that is under 2 inches?! You learn something new every day. When I was a kid, my grandma made stewed dried fruit. EVERYBODY’s grandma did. I’ve updated the dish but I’m sure grandma would approve!! This version is for a new generation. I think that almost every family has one recipe that it wouldn’t be Christmas without…this is ours. It’s a stewed fruit with port that I’ve eaten ever year of my life and that’s 62 years. It changes a bit every year… this year there are dried apples, pears peaches in it but the basic composition remains the same… port, apricots, oranges, plums, dates and raisins… lots of cinnamon, cloves and allspice… plenty of star anise and this year, a handful of dried ginger.
