Meaningless rereads „MERCY“

She woke with a gasp, not knowing who she was, or where.

The smell of blood was heavy in her nostrils… or was that her nightmare, lingering? She had dreamed of wolves again, of running through some dark pine forest with a great pack at her hells, hard on the scent of prey.

Half-light filled the room, grey and gloomy. Shivering, she sat up in bed and ran a hand across her scalp. Stubble bristled against her palm. I need to shave before Izembaro sees. Mercy, I’m Mercy, and tonight I’ll be raped and murdered. Her true name was Mercedene, but Mercy was all anyone ever called her…

Except in dreams. She took a breath to quiet the howling in her heart, trying to remember more of what she’d dreamt, but most of it had gone already. There had been blood in it, though, and a full moon overhead, and a tree that watched her as she ran.

The wolf dreams are kind of repetitive ngl. But Bran could be reaching to Arya through her Nymeria/dreams? Is it too early for Arya to understand her dreams and maybe reach back? I just don’t understand the point of them when nothing happens concretely where she understands. Snow in Riverlands is the only actual thing she ever understood from those. Also blood as always..

She had fastened the shutters back so the morning sun might wake her. But there was no sun outside the window of Mercy’s little room, only a wall of shifting grey fog. The air had grown chilly… and a good thing, else she might have slept all day. It would be just like Mercy to sleep through her own rape.

Gooseprickles covered her legs. Her coverlet had twisted around her like a snake. She unwound it, threw the blanket to the bare plank floor and padded naked to the window. Braavos was lost in fog. She could see the green water of the little canal below, the cobbled stone street that ran beneath her building, two arches of the mossy bridge… but the far end of the bridge vanished in greyness, and of the buildings across the canal only a few vague lights remained. She heard a soft splash as a serpent boat emerged beneath the bridge’s central arch. “What hour?” Mercy called down to the man who stood by the snake’s uplifted tail, pushing her onward with his pole.

The waterman gazed up, searching for the voice. “Four, by the Titan’s roar.” His words echoed hollowly off the swirling green waters and the walls of unseen buildings.

So we don’t know who is she playing really but the sleeping part sounds like Shae when Tyrion would go to her and she would be asleep.

I really love the whole Braavos vibe. More to come in Braavos appreciation time. Very Venice I know but also I don‘t know why I see similarities with OldTown. Snake imagery strong in here hmm..

She was not late, not yet, but she should not dawdle. Mercy was a happy soul and a hard worker, but seldom timely. That would not serve tonight. The envoy from Westeros was expected at the Gate this evening, and Izembaro would be in no mood to hear excuses, even if she served them up with a sweet smile.

She had filled her basin from the canal last night before she went to sleep, preferring the brackish water to the slimy green rainwater stewing in the cistern out back. Dipping a rough cloth, she washed herself head to heel, standing on one leg at a time to scrub her calloused feet. After that she found her razor. A bare scalp helped the wigs fit better, Izembaro claimed.

Mercy sounds so Shae. Also she is beating the unwashed northern allegations. Bare scalp so Cersei/Dany. All queens will be bald.

She shaved, donned her smallclothes, and slipped a shapeless brown wool dress down over her head. One of her stockings needed mending, she saw as she pulled it up. She would ask the Snapper for help; her own sewing was so wretched that the wardrobe mistress usually took pity on her. Else I could filtch a nicer pair from wardrobe. That was risky, though. Izembaro hated it when the mummers wore his costumes in the streets. Except for Wendeyne. Give Izembaro’s cock a little suck and a girl can wear any costume that she wants. Mercy was not so foolish as all that. Daena had warned her. “Girls who start down that road wind up on the Ship, where every man in the pit knows he can have any pretty thing he might see up on the stage, if his purse is plump enough.”

Her boots were lumps of old brown leather mottled with saltstains and cracked from long wear, her belt a length of hempen rope dyed blue. She knotted it about her waist, and hung a knife on her right hip and a coin pouch on her left. Last of all she threw her cloak across her shoulders. It was a real mummer’s cloak, purple wool lined in red silk, with a hood to keep the rain off, and three secret pockets too. She’d hid some coins in one of those, an iron key in another, a blade in the last. A real blade, not a fruit knife like the one on her hip, but it did not belong to Mercy, no more than her other treasures did. The fruit knife belonged to Mercy. She was made for eating fruit, for smiling and joking, for working hard and doing as she was told.

Snapper and Daena are kind of interesting as this chapter goes on. Maybe it’s me reaching but they are kind of Cersei and Sansa respectively. Wendeyne. My mind immediately went Wenda the White Fawn and Jeyne. Also Mercy is her replacement I think. Could it be that Arya‘s next mission would be a courtesan or something as so many have theorized? I have to say this chapter is so dark. Also purple wool and red silk are such royal colors. Coins, iron keys, blades.. So Citadel/Pate/Jaqen of them. Again so Shae the description but also.. Margaery? I know a reach. Mercedene-Margaery.

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” she sang as she descended the wooden stair to the street. The handrail was splintery, the steps steep, and there were five flights, but that was why she’d gotten the room so cheap. That, and Mercy’s smile. She might be bald and skinny, but Mercy had a pretty smile, and a certain grace. Even Izembaro agreed that she was graceful. She was not far from the Gate as the crows flies, but for girls with feet instead of wings the way was longer. Braavos was a crooked city. The streets were crooked, the alleys were crookeder, and the canals were crookedest of all.

The long way also took her across the Bridge of Eyes with its carved stone faces. From the top of its span, she could look through the arches and see all the city: the green copper domes of the Hall of Truth, the masts rising like a forest from the Purple Harbor, the tall towers of the mighty, the golden thunderbolt turning on its spire atop the Sealord’s Palace… even the Titan’s bronze shoulders, off across the dark green waters. But that was only when the sun was shining down on Braavos. If the fog was thick there was nothing to see but grey, so today Mercy chose the shorter route to save some wear on her poor cracked boots.

Independent woman Arya with her own apartment lol. Also Braavos sounds like KL too. The golden thunderbold atop SP. That’s interesting. So based on the boots she has been Mercy for quite some time. Or they are Daeron‘s. Doubt it

She had never seen a thicker fog than this one. On the larger canals, the watermen would be running their serpent boats into one another, unable to make out any more than dim lights from the buildings to either side of them.

Mercy passed an old man with a lantern walking the other way, and envied him his light. The street was so gloomy she could scarcely see where she was stepping. In the humbler parts of the city, the houses, shops, and warehouses crowded together, leaning on each other like drunken lovers, their upper stories so close that you could step from one balcony to the next.

Mercy scampered across, her heels ringing on the wood. The fog opened before her like a tattered grey curtain to reveal the playhouse. Buttery yellow light spilled from the doors, and Mercy could hear voices from within.

Just the visuals to read are so pleasing. Braavos appreciation indeed.

“It was so dark I slept and slept.”

The Bloody Hand offered two kings, the fat one and the boy. Izembaro would play the fat one.

Mercy found the company assembled behind the stage, and slipped in between Daena and the Snapper at the back, hoping her late arrival would go unnoticed. Izembaro was telling everyone that he expected the Gate to be packed to the rafters this evening, despite the fog. “The King of Westeros is sending his envoy to do homage to the King of the Mummers tonight,” he told his troupe. “We will not disappoint our fellow monarch.”

“We?” said the Snapper, who did all the costumes for the mummers. “Is there more than one of him, now?”

“He’s fat enough to count for two,” whispered Bobono. Every mummer’s troupe had to have a dwarf. He was theirs. When he saw Mercy, he gave her a leer. “Oho,” he said, “there she is. Is the little girl all ready for her rape?” He smacked his lips.

The Snapper smacked him in the head. “Be quiet.”

The King of the Mummers ignored the brief commotion. He was still talking, telling the mummers how magnificent they must be. Besides the Westerosi envoy, there would be keyholders in the crowd this evening, and famous courtesans as well. He did not intend for them to leave with a poor opinion of the Gate. “It shall go ill for any man who fails me,” he promised, a threat he borrowed from the speech Prince Garin gives on the eve of battle in Wroth of the Dragonlords, Phario Forel’s first play.

The King of Westeros. Tommen still? No names are dropped in but interesting. The Snapper and Bobono so Cersei and Tyrion bicker. Also Forel??

the Snapper could sew the lace hem back onto the cloth-of-gold gown that the queen would wear in the wedding scene.

Lady Stork is playing Margaery or Cersei?

Izembaro would skin him alive if he made such a blunder again, and never mind how hard it was to find a good dwarf.

When Izembaro had first dubbed himself the King of the Mummers, the company had taken a wicked pleasure in it, savoring the outrage of their rivals from the Dome and the Blue Lantern. Of late, though, Izembaro had begun to take his title too seriously. “He will only play kings now,” Marro said, rolling his eyes, “and if the play has no king in it, he would sooner not stage it at all.”

The King of Mummers, we know how Tywin is the real King jests back then with Aerys. Irrelevant.

The balconies were filling too. The first and third levels were for merchants and captains and other respectable folk. The bravos preferred the fourth and highest, where the seats were cheapest. It was a riot of bright color up there, while down below more somber shades held sway. The second balcony was cut up into private boxes where the mighty could comport themselves in comfort and privacy, safely apart from the vulgarity above and below. They had the best view of the stage, and servants to bring them food, wine, cushions, whatever they might desire. It was rare to find the second balcony more than half full at the Gate; such of the mighty who relished a night of mummery were more inclined to visit the Dome or the Blue Lantern, where the offerings were considered subtler and more poetic.

This night was different, though, no doubt on account of the Westerosi envoy. In one box sat three scions of Otharys, each accompanied by a famous courtesan; Prestayn sat alone, a man so ancient that you wondered how he ever reached his seat; Torone and Pranelis shared a box, as they shared an uncomfortable alliance; the Third Sword was hosting a half-dozen friends.

“I count five keyholders,” said Daena.

“Bessaro is so fat you ought to count him twice,” Mercy replied, giggling.

It sounds so good. I half want Arya to actually work and travel places in the Essos more. Also information about an alliance. The last line of Mercy just like Bobono‘s earlier:

He’s fat enough to count for two,” whispered Bobono.

The woman with him could not have been more than a third his age. She was so lovely that the lamps seemed to burn brighter when she passed. She had dressed in a low-cut gown of pale yellow silk, startling against the light brown of her skin. Her black hair was bound up in a net of spun gold, and a jet-and-gold necklace brushed against the top of her full breasts. As they watched, she leaned close to the envoy and whispered something in his ear that made him laugh.

“The first Black Pearl was black as a pot of ink,” said Daena. “She was a pirate queen, fathered by a Sealord’s son on a princess from the Summer Isles. A dragon king from Westeros took her for his lover.”

“I would like to see a dragon,” Mercy said wistfully.

Honestly I think it means for a Dragon Prince rather then an actual dragon.

Daena shrugged. “He’s very old. Not so old as the other ones, but… he could be thirty. And Westerosi. They’re terrible savages, Mercy. Best stay well away from his sort.”

Daena might be the nicest friend of Arya. But she is Mercy. Reminds me of Sansa and Jeyne giggling and Jeyne loving Thoros who is older then her.

Seven hells, this place is damp,” she heard her guard complain. “I’m chilled to the bones. Where are the bloody orange trees? I always heard there were orange trees in the Free Cities. Lemons and limes. Pomegranates. Hot peppers, warm nights, girls with bare bellies. Where are the bare-bellied girls, I ask you?”

“Down in Lys, and Myr, and Old Volantis,” the other guard replied. He was an older man, big-bellied and grizzled. “I went to Lys with Lord Tywin once, when he was Hand to Aerys. Braavos is north of King’s Landing, fool. Can’t you read a bloody map?”

[..]Mercy wanted to hear more, but there was no time. The Bloody Hand was about to start, and the Snapper would be looking for her to help with costumes. Izembaro might be the King of the Mummers, but the Snapper was the one that they all feared. Time enough for her pretty guardsman later.

Targaryens again. Also Snapper-Cersei no? Or Olenna?!!

The Bloody Hand opened in a lichyard.

When the dwarf appeared suddenly from behind a wooden tombstone, the crowd began to hiss and curse. Bobono waddled to the front of the stage and leered at them. “The seven-faced god has cheated me,” he began, snarling the words. “My noble sire he made of purest gold, and gold he made my siblings, boy and girl. But I am formed of darker stuff, of bones and blood and clay… “

By then Marro had appeared behind him, gaunt and terrible in the Stranger’s long black robes. His face was black as well, his teeth red and shiny with blood, while ivory horns jutted upwards from his brow. Bobono could not see him, but the balconies could, and now the pit as well. The Gate grew deathly quiet. Marro moved forward silently.

So did Mercy. The costumes were all hung, and the Snapper was busy sewing Daena into her gown for the court scene, so Mercy’s absence should not be noted. Quiet as a shadow, she slipped around the back again, up to where the guardsmen stood outside the envoy’s box.

The Stranger behind Tyrion. I have read theories that the poison of Joffrey was meant for Tyrion. Also Snapper sewing Daena, who is she playing? Sansa? I said Snapper as Olenna just because here just like Sansa wearing the net and Olenna touching her, taking the poison.

You think it might be him?” the pretty one was saying.

“What, did the Others take your wits?”

“Why not? He’s a dwarf, ain’t he?”

“The Imp weren’t the only dwarf in the world.”

“Maybe not, but look here, everyone says how clever he was, true? So maybe he figures the last place his sister would ever look for him would be in some mummer show, making fun of himself. So he does just that, to tweak her nose.”

“Ah, you’re mad.”

“Well, maybe I’ll follow him after the mummery. Find out for myself.” The guardsman put a hand on the hilt of his sword. “If I’m right, I’ll be a ma lord, and if I’m wrong, well, bleed it, it’s just some dwarf.” He gave a bark of laughter.

This one is soooo.. Because Mercy/Arya literally prevents this from happening saving the dwarf/Bobono/Tyrion. Whoever she is playing Sansa or Shae, they both made Tyrion‘s case worse and worse, not save him. Cersei thinks that The Tyrells saved Tyrion/are helping him and on it with him as a big plan. What does this mean???

As I cannot be the hero, let me be the monster, and lesson them in fear in place of love.”

Mercy mouthed the last lines along with him. They were better lines than hers, and apt besides.

Arya/Tyrion meeting or interaction?!? I think it’s very likely. Just look at all her interaction with Bobono. She seems so Arya with him but plays the giggly sweet Mercy with Daena especially.

You’ll need to carry me.”

See? thought Mercy. You know your line, and so do I.

“Think so?” asked Arya, sweetly.

Raff the Sweetling looked up sharply as the long thin blade came sliding from her sleeve. She slipped it through his throat beneath the chin, twisted, and ripped it back out sideways with a single smooth slash. A fine red rain followed, and in his eyes the light went out.

“Valar morghulis,” Arya whispered, but Raff was dead and did not hear. She sniffed. I should have helped him down the steps before I killed him. Now I’ll need to drag him all the way to the canal and roll him in. The eels would do the rest.

“Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” she sang sadly. A foolish, giddy girl she’d been, but good hearted. She would miss her, and she would miss Daena and the Snapper and the rest, even Izembaro and Bobono. This would make trouble for the Sealord and the envoy with the chicken on his chest, she did not doubt.

She would think about that later, though. Just now, there was no time. I had best run. Mercy still had some lines to say, her first lines and her last, and Izembaro would have her pretty little empty head if she were late for her own rape.

Honestly quite disturbing and vague. The part in blue reminds me of Cersei in affc when she would be proud of her plans and say ‚if only this and this could see me‘. Taena/Daena, Robert and Tyrion the people Cersei despises the most.

Could there be a possibility that Arya might go straight to King’s Landing after Braavos? Maybe see Young Griff/Aegon?? So much at the Riverlands but I kinda want Arya to go either KL or the North when she returns. Or maybe Riverlands to KL as opposed to Riverlands and then North?! There is so many possibilities but I hate the vagueness. A secret wish of mine though? Oldtown. I don’t know why I want Arya to visit there!! Long meaningless analysis. I don’t know if I have an energy to do Alayne too. Mercy‘s is too disturbing and Alayne‘s chapter is too happy as if in a delusion where everything will come crashing down. Inevitably.

10 Ways to Save Your Marriage From Divorce

When you think you may be on the brink of divorce, you may still have a glimmer of hope that you can save your marriage. You want to stay together. And by putting in the effort, you can do it. Find out more help by Amy Waterman

As soon as you feel that first flicker of unhappiness, start proactively changing your tune (well, as soon as you finish this article). “The sooner people start working on their marriage when they’re unhappy, the easier it can be [to get past your problems],” says therapist Maru Torres-Gregory, JD, PhD, LMFT, a teaching and supervising faculty member for the Marriage & Family Therapy Program at the Family Institute at Northwestern University.

Okay, but let's be real: You’ve been stewing in these feelings for quite some time. And you're not alone. “People don’t know how to stay in love. Life tends to get in the way, especially when you have children. The relationship stops being a priority,” says Bonnie Eaker Weil, PhD, a couples therapist in New York City and author of Makeup, Don’t Break Up: Finding and Keeping Love for Singles and Couples. "But most marriages can be saved."

Every couple’s situation and circumstances are different. So, too, are the reasons they drifted apart, ranging from a lack of communication to cheating. Still, there are certain exercises you can do as a couple and individual, plus small steps you can take with your partner now to increase love, trust, and intimacy in the hopes of keeping you together. Here are 10 places to start:

1. Map it out.

Individually and as a couple, Torres-Gregory suggests writing down the following: how you started as a couple, what attracted you to your partner, where you are now, how you got here, and where you want to go.

“You won’t be able to have the marriage you had in the beginning, but you can work on having a new marriage. Think of it as marriage 2.0,” she says. To do that, though, you first have to know what that would look like.

2. Turn inward.

Thanks, romantic comedies, for giving us idyllic expectations for love. “You need to be fulfilled individually, rather than expecting your partner to fulfill everything,” says Torres-Gregory. Your partner does not have to “complete” you—and shouldn’t. (Hopefully, you've learned this before you said your vows, but alas...)

“You should be complete so that you don’t burden your partner or the relationship with the responsibility of making you happy,” she says. Take a deep dive into yourself: Why do you rely on your partner for this? Was it because that’s what was modeled in your parent’s relationship? Are you buying what popular media tells you?

By asking yourself these questions, you might be able to suss out what work you need to do to be a happier version of yourself, not just a happier wife. (The one begets the other, btw.)

3. Stop assuming.

Your partner asks a question: “Are the bowls clean?” and you lay into them—why are they always saying that you don’t do your part to care for the house? Can’t they see you’re swamped with life and work, too? “When couples have been together for a long time, they think they know each other. They begin to assume the other’s thinking and motivations and get angry and reactive to these assumptions,” says Torres-Gregory.

Here's the thing: The anger may be entirely coming from an argument that you’re having in your head—not the reality of the situation. Commit to stopping these assumptions, and if you think there’s a certain motivation behind a question or comment, at least ask. That'll help you get on a path to better communication, which can help turn an unhappy marriage around.

4. Set rules for the relationship.

Mutual respect and trust are necessary for a happy marriage, and if those two things have been lost, you’ll need to find them again. “Couples get into ways of interacting with each other and they don’t question it. They keep doing it,” says Torres-Gregory.

To minimize snapping and destructive comments, draw up some rules of the relationship when it comes to communication. “When you love and respect your partner, there are things you shouldn’t do or say,” she says. For instance, when you fight in the future, promise not to swear at each other or resort to name-calling. Again, the more constructive communication you can have, the better your chances of working through underlying issues.

5. Make a weekly date.

You two need to play together—ya know, like the old days. Go out once or twice a week for a date where you don’t discuss problems (or kids, if you have them). “Go back to the basics. What did you do before you were married that you’re not doing now? What did you do when you first fell in love?” says Bonnie Eaker Weil, PhD, a couples therapist in New York City and author of Make Up, Don’t Break Up: Finding and Keeping Love for Singles and Couples.

If the answer is playing mini-golf, bowl, or meet at a trendy bar for trendy drinks, well then, you’ve got your next date planned already.

6. Touch often.

I'm not even talking about sex here. “Hold hands when you’re walking down the street. Give each other a 20-second hug. Kiss each other hello. Dance cheek-to-cheek. Look into each other’s eyes for 30 seconds before you go to bed,” suggests Eaker Weil.

These simple exercises help deliver a rush of pleasure and bonding hormones (like oxytocin) to bring back the intimacy that you may be lacking now, she explains.

7. Show appreciation.

“I want you to have an affair with your partner,” says Eaker Weil. Say what now? Yep, Eaker Weil says that one of the best ways to save your marriage is to treat them like you can't get enough of them. (Even if, tbh, right now you can.)

That starts with expressing gratitude and appreciation of the other person: Gush over their new haircut, text them that you can’t wait to see them later—all the things that people tend to say to each other when they’re in the throes of romance. Sometimes you have to fake it till you make it, but starting a flame does build a fire.

8. Fight fair.

Real talk: You’re not going to just wave your hand like a wand to make sometimes years-deep pent-up resentment disappear. But that's okay.

In this exercise from Eaker Weil, your task is to make an "appointment" with your partner that’s limited in duration. (Tuesday from 7:30 to 8, for instance.) During this time, you fight fairly. You’ll start by telling them why you’re angry or what grudge you’re holding onto. Finish by asking them for a change. For example: “I feel like you never make time for me. All of your free time is dedicated to playing golf/going out with the guys/holing up in your home office. I want you to make time for me every week, even if it’s for 10 minutes.”

Your partner then follows up with something they’re resentful about; you just have to promise you’re not going to get angry, hurt, or reactive as they express themselves to you. To help make that happen, she recommends imagining that you’re holding their anger in a container as they speak (so that it's something you observe, not attack).

9. Envision the future.

Some of the main ingredients in a loving and healthy marriage are shared values, dreams, and life goals, says Torres-Gregory. Sit down and talk about your vision of a future together and how you’ll support each other, she says—it's an important and ongoing topic long after you've walked down the aisle or even had children.

If that seems impossible to see now and you can’t or don’t want to have that conversation, consider couples counseling. “A professional can help you start building that trust and goodwill again so that these conversations can happen more organically at home,” she says.

10. Try a Hail Mary.

Let's say you want to save your marriage, but your partner doesn’t. (Sorry.) Eaker Weil suggests taking a planned, structured break. “This isn’t coming from a place of being nasty. It’s saying, ‘I want to save our marriage, but I see you don’t feel the same way. Let’s take some time apart,'” she says. This could be for just one night, but four to six weeks is the usual amount of time that gives the partner “a kick in the ass,” says Eaker Weil.

“It’s not a punishment. It’s a wake-up.” No calling, no texting, and no sex for the entire time—the point is to make your partner miss you.

And if they don't? Well, counseling is always a good idea—as is re-evaluating whether your life partner is living up to their vows. The hard truth is that some marriages aren't meant to be saved–but that's up to you to decide when you're ready.

I know its, well, “fancy” to eat raw oysters, but coming from a waterman community with a staple that includes oysters: DON’T.  Actually, don’t eat any shellfish raw. In a way, I’m not surprised that this isn’t common knowledge. After all, most people don’t live on the water, don’t see how oysters are brought up (tonging or dredging--the river I grew up on, dredging is banned due to conservation purposes), and people don’t see the type of infections folk get while working--a small scrape can mean losing a leg to bacteria. Gander residents gather to watch Tony Awards, cheer on 'Come From Away'

GANDER, N.L. -- The unassuming Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8 in Gander, N.L., an aging one-storey building with pale yellow siding on the edge of town, will host a sold-out Tony Awards viewing party Sunday night.

The come-as-you-are event, with chips, cheesies and a casual dress code, isn't your typical star-studded, red-carpet bash.

But neither is Gander a typical town, opening its doors with heartwarming hospitality to nearly 7,000 stranded passengers and crew after 38 planes were diverted here on September 11, 2001.

That story forms the plot for "Come From Away," the foot-tapping, tear-jerking Broadway musical that has enchanted audiences and earned seven Tony nominations including a nod for best musical.

"We're calling it a red carpet event," said Beulah Cooper, a Gander resident and 9/11 volunteer portrayed in the play. "But it will be a casual night. If it was dressy it might keep people away."

Some 10,000 people call Gander home, a little more if you include the outskirts of town. On the northeastern side of the island of Newfoundland, it's home to Gander International Airport, once a critical refuelling stop for transatlantic jets and -- as 9/11 demonstrated -- still an important emergency landing site for aircraft.

The Plane People, as legion president Carl Waterman affectionately calls the airplane passengers stranded in Gander after U.S. airspace shut down, nearly doubled the town's population.

"I was with the Elks when we got a phone call about the Plane People coming to town," he said, referring to the non-profit community group. "The whole community pooled together to help. We had people coming through the doors with beef stews and chicken legs and soups."

Waterman remembers bringing some of the stranded travellers to his house to shower.

"I had to head back out to the Elks Club and they couldn't believe I'd let some strangers stay in our house alone," he said. "They said that would never happen in New York. But in Gander, everyone knows everyone."

That this neighbourly humanity could emerge amidst the sheer terror gripping much of North America after 9/11 is the victory of love over hate, kindness over animosity.

"Come From Away" creators David Hein and Irene Sankoff recognized the universal appeal of the story. Coupled with the musical's folksy score, the award nominations started to pour in.

"Come From Away" has been nominated for dozens of awards, but Sunday's Tonys are the most high-profile and potentially lucrative.

The legion quickly sold all 185 tickets to the viewing party. The $5 cover charge, which includes doors prizes and a glass of wine donated by a New Yorker to share in a toast, will go toward the legion's building fund to replace shingles on the leaking roof and install a new heating system.

With two 65" television screens borrowed from the local furniture store, there'll be no bad seats in the house.

Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. local time, with a pre-show starting around 8:30 p.m. and the 71st Tony Awards at 9:30 p.m.

"Not in my wildest dreams did I think we'd end up here," Cooper said with a laugh. "When I got that call that people were coming to Gander ... I just thought 'Thank God they are coming here so we can help.' I never thought I'd make lifelong friends and there would be this hit musical."

Cooper said she's hopeful "Come From Away" will win some of the seven awards it has been short-listed for. But she said just being nominated has already shone a spotlight on the musical and the small Newfoundland town.

It will likely to be a suspenseful awards show, however, as critics point to a close race between "Come From Away" and "Dear Evan Hansen," a musical in which a high school student with a social anxiety disorder struggles following a classmate's death.

"I think it will be a nail-biter," Gander Mayor Claude Elliott said. "It probably will be a long night. We're going to keep our fingers crossed and we're going to hope that we'll win at least a couple of the seven we've been nominated for."

HiI’m Doug Kirby, Director Technician, dogsbody over to the stars… Hi I’m Lou Kendon Ross I play Donna Ryeman’s friend and He’s Alex Dee the Hitman (Tim Connery is the Writer but he’s mute!) The Hitman and Her is about a desperate woman seeking a solution to her problem, her Husband she’s well connected but clueless. It's a Comedy Drama from the writer and team behind last years 5 star reviewed After Today (About Bill Grundy and that Sex Pistols Interview), like that at its heart it’s about a man being left behind by a world that has moved on. and a Hit.

2. What is the top reason people should see the show? We’re in it! well that’s one, Its a Comedy it’ll make you laugh There are lots of different aspects, layers, a bit like and onion. Yeah you should see it because its like an onion! Oh and you get reminded who all the Blue Peter presenters are, well the female ones anyway.

3. What would be a successful Fringe for you?

Well having an audience, who come in , enjoy the show and tell everyone else its a great show, but also tell us other good shows to go and see.

4. What 3 top tips have you got for Edinburgh Fringe first timers? Lou has to defer to Alex (a first) as she is a first timer her self. OK 1 Eat well, 2 Sleep well, 3 and remember its a Marathon not a sprint. Wise ords indeed Mr Dee.

5. The play is set in a pub. Do you have a favourite pub in Edinburgh? Lifting his Pint of what suspiciously looks like a well know stout Alex says he’s not sure he goes to Pubs. Having visited the fringe to see friends shows Lou recommends for Performers and crew Brookes Bar at the Pleasance Dome a Private club. Alex agrees and admits though he likes a pub during the fringe its more about the venue pop up Bars and Brookes is the best, though for Pubs a fun night out is Frankensteins is fun and for foodie pub goers and Dog lovers Grey Friers Bobbie, pour Theatre Dog Phoenix gives that the paws up as they brought her raw chicken down for dinner when she visited last year (not in the restaurant of course).

6. How is the build up to Edinburgh going? Are you feeling a buzz yet? Definitely feeling the buzz for our 2 London previews says Lou, Alex will probably be feeling the buzz from that pint in a minute! Yes the whole team is really excited we, line bashed early in June after script edits, but only really got around the table and on our feet miid July, so a solid 7 days rehearsing, some stewing time then a couple of runs before our previews and up to Edinburgh. Doug is Driving up with all the kit and the rest of us are having a train party (don’t tell Doug).
