Boston University’s Center for Antiracist Research, headed by critical race theory activist Ibram X. Kendi, revealed last week that it was laying off about 40% of its staff as part of organization restructuring. About 15 to 20 of its approximately 45 employees were let go. Testimonies from former employees have exposed alleged mismanagement of Kendi’s center, which in turn has exposed the fraudulence and fragility of the diversity, equity, and inclusion complex.

Disgruntled former employees have accused Kendi of mishandling grant funding, failing to complete major projects, and fostering an exploitative company culture in which he ruled with an iron fist yet was routinely missing in action. The center has raked in $43 million since its inception, according to 2021 budget records obtained by the Daily Free Press. It received corporate support from Peloton, Deloitte, Stop & Shop, TJX Companies, and Deckers Outdoor Corporation, according to a 2020–2021 donor report. Only six weeks after its launch, then-CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey gifted $10 million without conditions.

“Your $10M donation, with no strings attached, gives us the resources and flexibility to greatly expand our antiracist work,” Kendi posted at the time. “The endowment is vital, as we build our new Center.”

Despite the investments, the center did not deliver on some key priorities, such as the much-hyped Racial Data Tracker that would document racial inequities in all sectors of society to finally root out racism.

“I don’t know where the money is,” Saida Grundy, a BU professor who worked at the center from fall 2020 to spring 2021, told the Boston Globe after the staff cuts.

Multiple other BU professors served as faculty leads on various projects at the center. Professor Sanaz Mobasseri of BU’s business school led the Antiracist Tech Initiative, professor Kaylene Stevens of BU’s education school led the “Designing Antiracist Curricula” team, and political science professor Spencer Piston led the Policy Office, for example.

In December 2021, Grundy emailed BU provost Jean Morrison that the organization had been showing a “pattern of amassing grants without any commitment to producing the research obligated” by them.

Like its umbrella idea DEI, “antiracism” actually translates to, well, nothing of note. Serial academics such as Kendi have built careers around racial fearmongering, even inventing new disciplines to study racism and its early-stage minutiae “microaggressions” and “implicit bias.” Rather than confront actual crimes of racism, these courses seek to aggressively manufacture racist intent.

Despite all this bureaucracy, academic DEI projects have unclear aims and products. Kendi’s center published just two research papers since its founding, the Washington Free Beacon reported. A January paper, "Association of Neighborhood Racial and Ethnic Composition and Historical Redlining With Build Environment Indicators Derived From Street View Images,” found that predominantly black neighborhoods had more dilapidated buildings than white neighborhoods. The center released a report from its "Antibigotry Convening” from fall 2021 and winter 2022 that included many intersectionality themes such as “Ageism,” "Anti-fat Bigotry,” and “Transphobia,” further confusing its purpose.

Rachel Lapal Cavallario, spokeswoman for Kendi’s center, told the Boston Globe Wednesday that BU had “received some complaints from individuals questioning whether the center was following its funding guidelines. We are currently looking into those complaints.”

However, the center rejects the “characterization of it not having produced important work insofar as antiracism is concerned,” she said.

To raise Grundy’s question again, where did the money go? Echoing that sentiment, BU has launched an “inquiry” into the center amid the scandal, the Daily Free Press said.

The situation is reminiscent of the lawsuits against Black Lives Matter, another embattled racial justice organization. In 2023, Black Lives Matter reported a $9 million deficit for 2022 after raising $90 million in 2020. Only 33% of that massive sum went to charitable activism, federal filings showed, as a significant chunk was squandered on the leaders’ mansions, personal expenses, and favors for friends. Both Kendi’s center and BLM followed a similar model: drum up rumors of racism, prescribe DEI, create an apparatus, lure in donors, get paid.

The racial grievance business welcomes little accountability — or accounting, for that matter — which explains why it’s found a home in academia. Many colleges, such as Boston University, or my alma mater Boston College down the road, charge their students exorbitant tuition for useless degrees and boatloads of debt. Tenured professors collect big paychecks while hawking critical race theory, turning students into activists instead of real scholars.

Despite its self-destructive tendencies, the DEI racket continues to spread throughout academia. Some colleges are trying to meet demand for so-called DEI experts by creating a corresponding major, USA Today claimed. At least six colleges across the country offer DEI degree programs or will in the future, according to the publication’s analysis. Tufts University and the University of Pennsylvania even have DEI graduate programs.

Some universities have also woven DEI into their academic missions. Duke University in 2020 launched a Racial Equity Advisory Council, composed of four subcommittees including faculty members and students, which will propose “measures to assess and foster racial equity” to the university’s leadership. Every year since fall 2020, the Duke Endowment has sponsored professors with seed grants to pursue research proposals related to race as part of the school’s anti-racism mission. That’s more money down the drain.

DEI in America’s prestigious colleges contributes nothing, wastes money, and fuels a bubble of empty courses, professions, and promises. But if the shakeout at Kendi’s BU center is any clue, it might be starting to pop.

✨️ Gabrielle de Lioncourt - based on a stunning reference pic of a ballerina, I wanted to convey her vulnerability alongside her empowerment. The moment she chose for herself to strip away the assigned clothing of her mortal life in order to fully embrace who she always was in her immortal one.

✨️ Armand, holding a Quran, paired with the verse, "He found you lost, and guided you." (93:7). Being queer religious myself I can deeply empathize with characters trying to balance a tight rope of two aspects of an identity. Here I allowed the viewer to decide if he's finding comfort as he clings to the holy texts.

✨️ Lestat in Magnus' basement ~ just before he's turned, paired with a poem about how resilience and resignation are two sides of the same coin. His face remains defiant against all odds, his body shows the results of violence, and he is surrounded by decaying death, resigned to whatever may happen next - but a kind of defiant determination not to show despair is paired with the overall composition.

✨️ I drew Aziraphale reading books in his shop for ace week back in October. It was a deeply personal piece because I wanted to imagine him finding books about asexuality and piecing some things together 😘 This one got uploaded with resource links for some 40+ ace books on tumblr & twitter 🖤🤍💜

✨️Louis, post Claudia, carrying the scythe after setting the coven on fire 🔥 This one is also one of my favorites and I wanted to convey the rage found in his grief, her ashes spread on him, and paired it with this verse from Job: "Therefore, I find myself reprehensible, and I will do penance in embers and ashes."

✨️ the next one was another birthday gift, this one for Anna featuring one of the best characters ever, Will Graham! I wanted to experiment with monochromatic colors to give him a classical vibe reminiscent of ancient Greek statues, and still add pops of color with the gold laurel crown. The drip affect was an aesthetic choice, but I think it paired well with the artistic vibes of the show. Hannibal had once implied they were like Achilles and Patroclus, but which one is which? I left that one up to the viewer 😘

✨️ And lastly, but certainly not least, one of my favorite, fun, for the vibes of epicness pieces - Lestat on a rock magazine cover for Brielle’s IWTV BB fic ❤️ I loved playing with the fashion aspect, and found the most fun reference photo for the pose. Add some bi lighting color palettes and it's *chefs kiss* 🫶🏻

Secrets Chapter 20: Visiting old friends part I

Pairing: Steve Rogers X OFC, Brock Rumlow X OFC.

Summary: Sometimes keeping secrets can be dangerous or a heavy burden, which is what Kathleen has been doing for years. She will also be in charge of guiding Steve Rogers into this century; meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. will be looking for a way to kick-start the Avengers Initiative by integrating her as one of the superheroes, but that won't be the only danger they face.

Steve came out a little upset after the meeting with Fury, he didn't want to go back to being that guy who was only used to making more money, making propaganda and continuing with the war.

“Steve," Kathleen called him, but he ignored her, surely she would say something to convince him, "Steven Grant Rogers! “she said loudly when she saw that he wouldn't stop.

Steve tensed and stopped, she had never called him by his full name, he felt like when his mother scolded him, he turned to find himself in front of her, and he let himself be guided to her office.

“They are not going to use you as they did in the army at the beginning," Kath began to speak, Steve sighed, she had read his mind, "I assure you that the world loves you, they have already seen you in action, you will not be alone, now it is normal that they do interviews to famous or important people, they will do the same to Stark, besides you will not dedicate yourself exclusively to that, you will continue going to missions," she explained to him.

“But they didn't include you, and you also did a great job, and yet they are not recognizing it like the others," the Captain replied

“The world still doesn't like mutants, Stevie, if they promote with me, it will be a negative campaign and we will go back to what happened more than fifteen years ago, it's for safety, you weren't there, but we mutants had to run away to survive," Kath gave a sad smile.

After that talk, Steve went out, Kath remembered that in two days she had to go with Doctor Pym, she went running to Brock's office, but she didn't find him, she was just about to leave when he appeared behind her since he had just returned to his office.

“Kitty, is something wrong? “he questioned since she never went to look for him in his office, it was the other way around or if she needed something she would text him.

“Brockie, hey, listen, I wanted to ask you a favor," he answered in a honeyed voice, making the other raise his eyebrow.

“If it's about the propaganda that Fury and Pierce want to do, I can't do anything about it, you know it's for your safety," he said as he crossed his arms.

“It's not about that, how lazy to be involved in any kind of propaganda, the real situation is... I haven't been shopping for a long time and I would like to skip Thursday's training, please," asked her with a childish tone while she looked at him.

“Kathy, you can't leave me alone with him," complained the Commander, referring to the Captain.

“I haven't said anything to Fury about your fights, but if they go on like this I don't think I'll have a choice," she threatened him while she tangled a lock of his hair on her finger.

“You know you are capricious and manipulative, you know how to convince me, okay, go shopping, but this time it's going to cost you," he replied amused, he couldn't deny her anything when she did those things, she looked so cute, not to mention his feelings for her.

“ What? “she asked cocking her head to one side, she was afraid he was going to tell her that he was going to accompany her.

“An outing together, I'll let you choose the place," he looked at her expectantly.

“Mmm okay, but you have to cover for me so no one finds out I'm running away from obligations “Kath smiled and kissed him on the cheek as a thank you, Brock was about to move so that the kiss would go somewhere else.

“ Rumlow! “A male voice called out to him, making the other two jump.

“Grant, what the hell are you doing here? “Brock asked when he saw who it was.

“I work here too," Grant answered as if it were the most obvious thing to do. Agent Anzai," he greeted her.

“Agent Ward, Rollins," he greeted the two men, "I have things to do, I'll leave so you can talk at ease," she ran away.

“That girl is going to be your undoing," Rollins mumbled.

“Didn't you learn anything at the Academy? If Pierce finds out, you know what will happen to him," Ward pointed out and Brock watched them angrily.

Kathleen entered the dining room of her house, she stood silently watching Steve, he had his eyes fixed on Peggy's file, she felt a pang of pain inside her, although she didn't understand the reasons, however, she remembered that in less than a week he was going to move to his new apartment, she approached him with the phone in her hand.

“Do you want to talk to him? “We can go see her if that's what you want," she took him by the arm to try to lift him, although it was obvious that she wouldn't succeed. Steve, sooner or later she's going to find out, it's better that she sees and hears it in person and not on TV or in some magazine or newspaper “he didn't know why he was telling her that, inside him, the pain was growing. Not to mention that for as long as he could remember he had always tried to keep that woman out of his life, there was something that disturbed him.

Steve knew that Kath was right, although Fury had not yet announced his "return to life" in an official way it was more than evident that explanations had to be given for what happened in the New York attack, however, he was afraid because he knew that Peggy had continued with her life while he was still stuck and he was completely sure that she hated him after everything that had happened. He had little choice but to agree to the mutant's proposal.

Kath opened a portal to get there faster, they were outside the house, and it seemed as if she was practically dragging him away as if he was a small child, she rang the doorbell and a middle-aged lady opened the door, judging by the uniform she was wearing.

“Mmm... Good afternoon, could you tell Mrs Carter that an old friend of hers would like to see her, please? “she asked with a big innocent smile and a sweet tone, she never failed when she used that tone of voice and made that face.

“No, Mrs Carter doesn't receive visitors," the nurse answered rudely while she crossed her arms.

Panic started to invade Steve and he tugged a little on her arm to make them leave, she ignored him and narrowed her eyes as she stared at the nurse, she used her mind control, it was not something she liked to do, but sometimes it was necessary especially when she was denied things.

“Come in, please, in a moment you will be able to see her," he said suddenly, letting them pass.

“What are you doing? “Steve reprimanded her in a low voice while he squeezed her arm.

“I know perfectly well that you want to see her and nothing is going to stop it, I only made things easier and stop squeezing my arm or you will break it, I am more fragile than you," she answered as she broke free from his grip.

A few minutes later the nurse returned to show them the way, they entered the room where Peggy was, and the old woman stared at them in shock, maybe she was dreaming.

“S-Steve, is that you? “she asked confused, Kath nudged Steve to come closer.

“Yes, Peggy, it's me," Steve reached over and took her hand, his face showing a lot of emotion.

“ Katherine? “Peggy asked as she turned to look at her.

“Mmm... no, Katherine was my great-grandmother “she answered, something in her head was starting to bother her, she was hearing incoherent thoughts in the old woman's mind, plus a few memories from her childhood were coming back to her head.

“But you look just like her, come here, I want to get a good look at you," she motioned with her other hand for her to come closer.

Kath approached and Peggy let go of Steve's hand to hug her, that made Kath uncomfortable because at that moment she saw in her mind a memory of Peggy.

“And I'm going to make sure you won't say anything about it, “the woman said while shooting someone.

The sound of the gun echoed in Kath's head; she felt a shiver run down her spine.

“ Kathleen? “Steve called out to her as he grabbed her shoulders.

“ Huh? “ was the only thing that came out of her mouth, that memory left her very confused.

“Peggy asked you a question," Steve scolded her.

“Excuse me, Mrs Carter, I got distracted, please repeat the question," apologized she as she blinked in confusion, even though she didn't know why she had called Carter by his first name, Steve looked at her strangely while Peggy tensed a little, but immediately regained her self-control.

“You sound just like Katherine, dear," Peggy said in a soft voice, and Steve nodded, "I asked you if you had any powers," he took her by the hand.

“Ah yes, sometimes it is useful, sometimes not, I can open portals to go places “ Kath answered quickly, her intuition told her that she should not give much information and less trust, however, she knew that this woman had access to the information in her Organization file; Steve frowned at the answer, he did not understand why she did not tell everything.

Then he listened to the conversation between Steve and Peggy about how they had found him and everything that had happened up to that moment.

When they returned to her house, she didn't feel like talking to anyone, she simply wanted to go to her bedroom and lie down on the bed, it hurt her what had happened, even though she knew it made Steve happy, she hadn't told him what had happened years before. He stopped her before she went in.

“ What was that? “he questioned her with a serious tone.

“ What are you talking about? “His mind was elsewhere.

“ Why didn't you tell Peggy the whole truth? “With one hand he lifted her face to look her straight in the eye.

“I never tell everything about myself to people I've just met as a personal rule, besides it's nothing of mine, if I took you it's because I wanted to see you happy, not to be interrogated," he answered her coldly.

“Peggy is incapable of hurting anyone," Steve said, he could notice a defiant look he had never seen in her before.

“People change over time and we all have a dark side, Steven, and you don't have the slightest idea of what has happened in people's lives over the last seventy years," she replied in a tremulous voice, breaking free from his grip and walked into her room, slamming the door and leaving Steve outside.

Okay, I wanna talk about the Pokemon anime for a second, because the way they've been treating the dub has been increasingly ridiculous and I need a place to vent about this and maybe try to spread awareness?

Long post, kinda rambly, sorry.

So I think most Pokemon fans are at least tangentially aware of some of the dub's problems. I know it definitely got some attention back when XY blew up and started getting attention outside of the usual anipoke sphere. You probably expect me to start talking about the soundtrack replacement here, but the much bigger issue at the moment is actually the release delay. Generally speaking, the English dub tends to release about 3-4 months behind the original Japanese release (XY actually had a good streak with only a 2-month gap up until the start of XYZ). It's not good, especially considering the standard set by Funimation for other popular weekly anime dubs, but at least it's consistent and we learned to just live with it. The Japanese episodes would release, the English side of the company would pretend they didn't exist, and English-speaking viewers either had to seek out fansubs or dodge spoilers for a couple of months. However, this situation has gotten much, much worse as of late.

The latest series, Pokemon Journeys (JN for short), aired its dub on Netflix. Netflix of course did its usual thing and released the series in batches every few months for people to binge. This is a problem for two reasons: First, JN just isn't a particularly bingable show. Due to the timeslot it originally aired in in Japan, the show is more episodic than any that came before, even the famously "slice-of-life" Sun & Moon. It works well in bit-sized morsels every week, but there's not usually enough connective tissue to feel satisfied consuming it all at once. Secondly, it destroyed the consistency I mentioned before. Instead of getting a new episode every week, we would get 12 episodes every few months, purely at the whim of whenever the hell Netflix decided to release them. It started out fine-ish, with about three month windows between releases to match the three months' worth of episodes each batch contained, but as the series went on, we started to see windows of four or five months between releases, inflating the dub delay problem to ridiculous levels. Today, June 23, the penultimate batch of episodes released, containing the grand finale of the Masters Tournament, where Ash defeated Leon to win the World Coronation Series. If you read that sentence and thought "huh, didn't that happen a while ago?" you would be correct. It aired in Japan all the way back in November, eight months ago. The first episode of the batch, Ash vs. Steven, is nearly an entire year old, first airing in July.

"Well," you might be thinking, "you said earlier that the English side of the company doesn't acknowledge the Japanese episode releases. If someone managed to completely avoid any news about the Japanese episodes, it's not as if they would get spoiled by the official English Twitter account, right?"

Right?

Note the timestamp there (I'm in EST). Not only did they release this Tweet on the same day the finals aired, they did it as soon as the episode finished. Even for the people who followed the Japanese releases and watched the episode with fansubs or even raw, this is so early in the morning for most of the English-speaking audience that anyone who didn't get up early enough to watch the episode live could potentially be spoiled from it. Granted, the Internet was ablaze with spoilers regardless, but the official account joining in on the spoilers when the people it's supposed to be advertising to have no way of officially watching the episode certainly isn't a good look. Surely they wouldn't do it again, right?

Right?

Following Ash's departure from the anime, the next series was called Pokemon Horizons (HZ). One of its core story hooks is a mysterious pendant worn by one of the main characters, Liko. In the two-part debut, the mystery deepened when the pendant activated, transforming into a never-before-seen Pokemon that the English Twitter account again highlighted, taking the wind out of the sails of what was supposed to be a really cool and exciting surprise.

At the time of me writing this, not only is there no news about when HZ will be officially available for a western audience, but the JN dub still hasn't even finished yet, and likely won't until Netflix decides it's time to drop the final batch of episodes in a few months.

And the weirdest part of all this? From the way they've been treating HZ, it feels to me like they want to bring the Japanese and English sides of the anime closer together, and maybe Netflix fucking up the release schedule beyond recognition ruined their plans. Both of the Twitter incidents show implicit recognition that there is a portion of the English audience following the Japanese release. And when they announced that Ash would be leaving the anime and HZ would take his place, they did so through a video with Japanese audio and official English subtitles, with a later HZ trailer even specifically mentioning the Japanese release date (both of these videos releasing on the English YouTube channel, mind you). Most of the HZ cast have names that remain the same or only slightly changed between languages (highly unusual for this series), even extending to side characters like Anne or Alec. So now we're stuck in this weird limbo situation where the anime feels like it's trying to be more accessible to the West, while in reality being the most disconnected it's ever been. I'm super curious to see if/how the HZ dub will try to amend this issue whenever it inevitably comes out, and where the marketing goes from here. HZ has me more excited about the future of the anime than JN ever did, and I truly hope the dub can live up to it.

Of the videos (not counting shorts) that come up, 6 of the top 10 are, just by glancing at the thumbnail/caption, overtly hostile and derogatory to her/her legal team, 3 pretty clearly are (ie using photos of her chosen to appear ugly or hostile, asserting that Aquaman 2 "failed"), and the last one appears to be an SNL skit about the Virginia trial. Of the shorts, 2 or 3 out of the first 8 visible are overtly negative, and at least 6 reference the trial or other scandals/controversies.

Granted most places I've seen aren't as bad as Youtube, Youtube is the absolute bottom of the barrel for hate content on social media, a recent study by the Anti-Defamation League actually found it was the worst offender for monetizing hate over Facebook and Musk's Twitter. But still.

If you are a random person who searches her name on Youtube, nearly everything you see about her will be about the Virginia trial or related controversy, most of it overtly demeaning/vilifying her. You have to actively look to find anything positive about her or her work or any other aspect of her life, and even then, you WILL have to trawl through a lot of MRA/Alt. Reich-ish content designed to illicit feelings of hatred, disgust, and contempt toward her, and often toward women and abuse survivors generally. If you are someone who didn't follow the trial, or a young person in a few years who was too young to remember it, and you look her name up, these are the first things you'll likely see, and your first impression of her. Everything else about her life- her dozens of film and television roles, her other relationships, her extensive activism and charitable work, is obscured. And any future work that she does will likely be difficult to promote, because it'll get quickly buried in all this shit (I am reminded of Steven Bannon's infamous remark describing his media tactics, "flood the zone with shit", and much of the hate campaign against Heard is very much in his style). And that will follow her for years- to some extent, probably, forever.

And somehow, that's not the saddest part about all of this. The saddest part is that she has a young daughter who, if not already, will soon be old enough to go on social media, or talk to people who have, and find out exactly what much of the world says about her mother, and by association her. Lovely.

And to be honest I feel guilty even posting about it any more, because even by posting about it to call it out, I'm still contributing to the fact that so much of the content on social media about her is about the abuse and trial, that that's still defining how her whole life is perceived, and I know that, and I know that she probably doesn't want to be defined by that forever. Which is part of why I've tried to consciously shift in recent months to posting more about the rest of her life and work, and less about the trials and the witch-hunt.

But sometimes I do still feel the urge to point at this shit and say "What the fuck?"

There's probably a lot of little things that played into this, but here are some of the major ones I've been around for and noticed:

Immediately before this period of dark nihilism, 2010-2014 fandom culture was starting to be considered "super cringe" so people were constantly taking away words and phrases you couldn't say anymore. "Oh you still use XD? Weird! You're probably really old (fandom ageism taking root) Get outta here!" People would cast you out as weird or cringe for even so much as thinking about using an old-fashioned, text emote (the silly old ones like :P, or :> or TwT). There was whole long discourses about which ones were still acceptable, and it seemed like only the simple smiley :) (passive aggressive) and the uwu survived, which spawned a whole new culture in itself. Young fans were really trying to claim the tumblr space, and tension got super high because of it.

Right after this weird aggressive period, Trump and this utter sense of apocalypse happened, so everyone's mood just... turned dark and sour. That, combined with this weird toxicity on internet spaces (especially tumblr, where fandoms became battlegrounds), made everything very toxic and broody, which was a stark contrast to the kinds of fandoms that were suddenly thriving (Steven Universe, Voltron, a lot of new, potentially diverse kids cartoons, where these kind of rising stars that reeked of toxicity.) Internet dadaism and majorrr nihilism became a thing in the midst of this weird angst train, and it decimated both perky show fandoms, and darker themed ones (GoT, SPN, etc). There was also, however, just this growing sense of unity in... despair and gloom in the growing state of worldly chaos. Covid was hitting EVERYONE, and it was, finally, something we could all talk about and more or less agree on, so long as you were on the same political side of the issue. This probably reached its peak, or maybe climax, when Destiel "becoming canon" happened around the same time we were all watching each state struggle to tally votes and commenting on it like the weirdest, most universal soccer match. The memes were unreal, and the cascade of real-world mixing with fandom events was unparalleled. Life truly felt incredibly surreal at that moment.

It was only after all this drama, weirdness, and STRESS hat things... finally started to calm down. Almost universally, people started to relax, and just... take the little things for granted. Even though worldly issues didn't exactly get better, they did get easier, especially since the vaccines came out, as that was a huge relief for everyone. Internet romanticism hit its peak yet again, except this time it wasn't excitement about being on the internet with quirky little abbreviations and emotes, but with being able to enjoy... outside life as well. After being trapped at home for basically two years or longer in many places, people really wanted to bridge that gap, even all the worst of the tragically depressed nerds. And yeah, that's when the whole real-life-romanticism hit. People are still incredibly addicted to the internet, but with the way we were all condensed onto it in such a toxic mess before, being able to appreciate that space to breathe was just.. a huge feeling everyone wanted to share.

Also the tumblr NSFW ban of 2018 drove a LOT of young people off tumblr, and onto twitter, and while you would probably assume that'd drive just the adults and artists to twitter (it partially did), it also drove most of the younger fandom members with it. Most of the ones that stuck around were older adults, 20s to 30s and beyond. You can see it in the kinds of hit posts that deal with mundane, very adult activities, like getting groceries or parking the car. It's literally settled down because the rampant energy has all moved.. to twitter. And having been on both the whole time, I can confirm that it is still much more of a chaotic mess there, where the youngest fandom-goers gather in bulk and continue to send death threats, share kys jokes, and bully each other <3 Some things never change.

I haven’t been on tumblr for quite as long as a lot of people but over several years I’ve noticed this interesting gradual sorta,, shift in the general culture? that it went from this mostly depressed, nihilistic outlook where people would regularly joke about hating themselves and being hopeless and depressed, to a wave of vehemence of “STOP hating everything actually the world is Good and you deserve love!!!” type posts, to now, where those aggressive ‘PSAs’ have faded away and instead I regularly see people romanticizing simple things like stars and hot tea and rainy mornings, and waxing poetic about their friends, and just trying to put love out there. and I don’t know exactly what that means (someone who knows more than me could probably say something smart about generational expression and trauma or popular perception of mental health and whatnot), but I do know that it makes my heart very full to see people learn to love the world and themselves by extension, and a whole userbase adopting healthier coping mechanisms, and therefore teaching the younger users to do so as well. I might just be following different people, but I really do think we’ve grown. everyone has grown. five years ago it wasn’t unusual for the next post on my dash to be a scathing commentary on why nothing matters or an anon ripping into someone they barely knew or someone complaining about how pathetic their interests are. now I have mutuals who get excited and spam reblog art of cows and friends I see tagging each other in pictures of frogs and strangers writing paragraphs about how much I matter. it makes me happy. idk. just an observation I wanted to make. I think people are good and everyone’s just trying their best at the end of the day

Vollie and Mandy visit Qld Parliament to celebrate Pride Month

Queensland Premier Steven Miles has invited Brisbane drag stars Vollie Lavont and Mandy Moobs to the state parliament to celebrate the city’s upcoming Pride Month.

September is officially Pride Month in the city. Brisbane Pride is Queensland’s largest annual LGBTQIA+ festival, with a month-long calendar of events kicking off soon.

In a TikTok, the Queensland leader wore a Brisbane Pride shirt as he filmed alongside Vollie and Mandy inside parliament.

The two drag queens also posted hilarious photos to Instagram of themselves sitting at a desk in a parliamentary office and also taking over the Speaker’s chair on the floor of parliament.

Brisbane Pride Festival launches soon

In two weeks, Brisbane Pride Festival is holding its official launch on Saturday, September 7 at the Sportsman Hotel.

Later in the month thousands will flock to the city’s annual Pride March and Fair Day on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Brisbane Pride has confirmed that the morning’s Rally will start at Queens Gardens at 9am.

Everyone will gather together in the park before the March travels over the Victoria Bridge crossing the Brisbane River and travelling to Musgrave Park for Fair Day.

The full Fair Day lineup and the official Pride Month calendar will drop in the coming weeks.

Bitcoin ETF Approvals Expected Despite SEC Hack Mishap

Money managers are hopeful that spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will receive approval to launch, despite the chaos caused by a fake social media post claiming that approvals had already been granted. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) clarified that its Twitter account had been hacked, and it had not approved the listing and trading of spot bitcoin ETFs. Some applicants still expect to receive approval, with Valkyrie Funds Chief Investment Officer Steven McClurg giving the chances a 95% probability. The approval of bitcoin ETFs would offer a mainstream way for investors to gain exposure to bitcoin without owning it directly. #BitcoinETFs #SEC

The SEC's hacking incident has sparked concerns and calls for a closer look at the agency from politicians. Republican Senators JD Vance and Thom Tillis criticized the SEC for making a "colossal error." However, the Chicago Board of Options Exchange (CBOE) has sought to expedite registration for its listing of a bitcoin ETF from one applicant, Ark 21 Shares. The crypto industry views ETF approval as a significant step towards mainstream acceptance. If approved, bitcoin could potentially be included in retirement plans and other investment vehicles.

There are 12 applications before the SEC for spot bitcoin ETFs, with some of the biggest names on Wall Street, including BlackRock and Franklin Templeton, among the applicants. JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs have also offered to assist money managers in creating and redeeming shares of the new funds. The optimism surrounding the ETF approvals had previously contributed to bitcoin's surge in value.
